Brunch: Short Ribs over grit cakes

The food is good. Service is polite. Took a while to get it but they compensated for it on the check.

Regular ol margarita... I think . It was tasty though!

So Columbia had a Rsco and Tequila Bar Crawl this past weekend, and this is my first time attending something like this. It was so much fun! I'm not a big drinker, but I did indulge a little! It went with my sister and her friend and we had a ball! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was nice, and the drink that I got from here was good, nothing really special about it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcoholic beverages, but the young lady had a light hand, and I thank her for that. The service was fast despite it being packed, so good on them for that! Didn't try the food because I was stuffed from the other places we went beforehand. But it seemed like an ok place. Not somewhere I'd frequent often, though.

We decided to pop into Republic after the basketball game. The restaurant is quaint and has character. It's a casual dining atmosphere with several tv's for those who are sports enthusiasts. There's a bar and pool table inside. I started with the Chocolate Cookie Martini. This was very good but small. This was more of a shooter rather than a martini. For entrees, we had the grilled cheese and the nachos. My food was okay. The tomato bisque was a little smoky and thick. I expected a creamy texture considering that the entree is a bisque soup. The bacon was crispy and it did not have a lot of heat. The nachos were okay. The chips were soggy but the entree was good flavor. I rate this restaurant a "3". This is a good spot for a quick bite.

It was decent food and drinks; the outdoor space was in the process of being redone. I had my dog with me, so I had to stay outside and didn't have a chance to go inside to explore. Nothing in particular really stood out about my experience here.

Bartenders were really unwelcoming, service was non existent and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the floor was so sticky it sucked my shoe off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Do NOT recommend and not even worth a second chance.

Awesome bottomless brunch for only $15! What a bargain. I love how they had different flavors such as pineapple and orange juice with a splash of cranberry. The drinks were made well. Most bottomless brunch places I have been to usually water down the drinks. I had the breakfast tacos and they were yummy! I wouldn't say the food is out of this world since it's more of a bar type of place. The ambiance is great to catch up with friends, watch sports, get some drinks. My group and I were able to stay for hours watching the football games on the big tv screens since it was Sunday. Shoutout to our awesome waiter -- he kept the drinks coming! We also ended up playing some rounds of pool - it's only $2 per game. In all, had a wonderful time. This is definitely the spot for bottomless brunch!

Started with a brown ale draught. Wish I understood the name from the bartender. Delicious. Then came the brisket tacos with a dark Mexican tap. My god, perfection. The side of umami Grilled Portabella, amazing. Side of Mac& Cheese, damn great. Oh yeah, the entrees of the tacos were fantastic. Grilled Shrimp on one and my super tasty beef. Finally to finish off the 5th star was our excellent and lovely bartender, attentive to all our drinking and eating needs. Her name was never provided nor on the cheque.

Service was meh. Our group of 3 were really the only persons seated inside. A small group at the bar appeared to be wither employees or friend software employees drinking at the bar, distracting our server. Nachos were stale for the most part. Fries were soggy. Cheese steak has WAY too much cheese. Barbacoa tacos were about the best item we ordered. Nice selection of beers so that was good. This would not be a regular stop for me but was good for a work group night out. It's pretty much regular bar food.

Brunch Burger Hangover Hash Brown Skillet Brunch

We went for bottomless mimosa brunch yesterday and were pretty disappointed. First I'll say our service was wonderful and the outdoor seating area was great. But the brunch food was just not good. I thought it was strange that the burger didn't come with a side. The bacon on it was so incredibly salty (and that says a lot coming from me). It wasn't cooked how I wanted and was just meh. The hash brown skillet sounded great on the menu but was terrible. The potatoes weren't crispy and there wasn't much flavor. All in all, we don't recommend for brunch. We've come for dinner and loved it. The flatbreads in particular are awesome. We were just disappointed with the brunch food.

    Chicken and Waffle

I have been to Republic several times for brunch. In my experience it has been a toss up. Sometimes the Chicken & Waffles comes with a beautiful -crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside - Belgian waffle. Sometimes it is square, squishy, cold waffles. I recommended the chicken and waffle to my dad after receiving the beautiful waffle the last time and he was very disappointed by the square waffles. I would recommend inquiring about waffle type before ordering this dish. The avocado toast is similar. One time it came with eggs, one time it came with barely toasted cold bread, a thin layer of avocado spread, and no eggs. There are dishes though, that shine ever time. The hangover hash brown skillet is reliable and comes out hot and consistent time and time again. The pork belly flatbread is also amazing and consistent. I have also tried the crab Benedict (which is so good I never even have time to photograph it without taking several bites first) and the breakfast tacos. Both of these are solid options as well and never disappoint. I've always gotten the mimosa flight, because I cannot get enough of the peach mimosa. The peach and pomegranate mimosas are fresh takes on this brunch classic and they are a MUST TRY! The staff here is always very friendly and very funny. Sometimes there is a long wait for brunch, I recommend getting there around opening because a line frequently forms before the doors even open. Sitting outside is always a pleasurable experience, but if you are seated inside, there are sometimes unpleasant odors from the bar scene the previous night. Overall, if you're looking for brunch, Republic has some great options, but be careful because it may not always be consistent!

It's hard to beat $3 pint nights on Thursday - although the food is tasty and a little expensive, they seem to constantly be understaffed and uncoordinated as far as service goes. If they got that under control, the holistic experience would be fantastic.

    Bottomless mimosas

Republic is a cute little Biergarten that has such a nice vibe and the sweetest wait staff! My sister and I decided to try it out before our galentines day brunch to see how the food was. I got the barbacoa nachos, spinach dip, and pimento pub burger with the duck fat fries and house chips. I have an allergy to cinnamon and they accommodated it by giving me regular bacon on my burger. Everything was absolutely amazing with the exception of the spinach dip. It was very oily and unappetizing. We didn't eat it. My sister got the tator tots and a pimento burger as well. The sauerkraut for the tots was EVERYTHING! Money well spent! A week later, we went for brunch because they have bottomless mimosas and the girls love bottomless mimosas lol! They come in three flavors: cranberry, pineapple and original. The mimosas were great! I got really lit off of them lol. I decided on the shrimp and grits and wish I hadn't. I didn't like the grit cake instead of regular grits. The sauce was great but the dish just missed the mark for me. A friend of mine got the frittata and said it was amazing though! The avocado toast was told to be just okay. Nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't return for brunch but I will definitely be back for dinner!

When we arrived, we were told the pizza oven was down. That wasn't a huge issue, so I specifically asked our waitress if it would affect anything else on the menu. She initially told us it would not. After we were seated and ordered our appetizer, we were then informed that the Spinach & Artichoke Dip couldn't be made because the pizza oven was down. That directly contradicted what we had just been told. If other menu items were unavailable, we should have been informed before ordering. My wife ordered an Irish Mule, and it was poorly made. We've ordered drinks here before without any issues, so this was surprising and disappointing. I ordered the French Dip, and it was one of the worst I've ever been served. The sandwich arrived already completely soaked through with au jus, making the bread soggy and falling apart before I even picked it up. The au jus itself was unusually thick and slimy instead of being a light dipping sauce. The presentation looked rushed and careless, as if no attention had been paid to plating. The service only got worse from there. After our food was delivered, no one came back to check on us, ask how everything was, or offer refills. We eventually had to flag someone down just to get our check. I also think the wait staff could benefit from better training in professionalism and guest interaction. The overall service felt awkward and inattentive. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that my wife and I have always enjoyed coming here. We brought my sister because we genuinely believed she'd have a great experience based on our previous visits. Instead, it was honestly embarrassing. Being from New York City and Boston, we've eaten at plenty of restaurants, and this visit simply didn't meet even basic expectations. We spent $93.47, and unfortunately, it felt like money wasted. This wasn't just a mediocre meal--it was an experience that made me feel embarrassed for recommending the restaurant in the first place. I sincerely hope this was just an off day because Old Chicago has been a great establishment in the past. However, based on this visit, I can't recommend it until the food quality, communication, and service improve.

The smash burger had a wonderful cheese melt, it was flavorful, the haystack onions were delicious, and the brioche pulled it all together. The other toppings were fresh. I ordered the truffle fries to go along with the burger. Fries only come with a few of their dishes. I wish the portion size of fries was a little more than what you get for the price; nevertheless, they were cooked well and were very good fries. Their ranch was tasty also. The food was served hot. My friends and I went during the NCAA Basketball Tournament, hoping to be able to watch all of the games at once. However, rather than having any of the basketball games on, they literally had a replay of an NFL game, a volleyball game, a TV that had timed out, and some kind of documentary on the other TV. When we asked our server if they could put the games on, we were told that they were unable to change the channels on the TV, as it was some kind of streaming service. Furthermore, we placed an order for drinks, and after sitting there for about fifteen minutes (15) minutes, got up and left after not seeing our waitress after that. If I were simply judging by this experience, I would have given The Yard negative stars if possible. However, my friends and I returned to The Yard to watch the NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship, and had a much better experience. It seemed that they were able to get the TV situation worked out, and we were actually able to get drinks this time. I know that this is the bare minimum for a sports bar, but they did show marked improvement from the first time that we went there. Our server, the bartender, and the hostess were all very nice, and I really liked the interesting sports regalia that was hanging on the walls. Overall, I'm going to give The Yard a generous three (3) stars, mainly considering the context in which my experiences took place. I hope that my first visit was simply a matter of needing to work the kinks out, and that future visits will be more in line with how my second visit went. I've yet to try their food, so I'll probably come back at least one more time, which'll serve as the tiebreaker as to whether The Yard is a worthwhile stop or not.
