I recently stopped by Taco Mundo in Columbia, SC, and had a pretty great experience. I ordered a rice and chicken bowl, and it was delicious--everything was well-seasoned and really satisfying. The salsa was definitely a highlight, with a nice kick and fresh flavor. Now, I do have to mention the one downside: the queso. As a big queso fan, I was a bit disappointed because while it tasted good, the texture wasn't quite right. It came out a little lumpy and not warm enough to be smooth, which was a letdown. On the bright side, the staff was fantastic about it. They noticed the issue, were super apologetic, and even took the queso off my bill without me asking. That kind of service really makes a difference, and I'll definitely be coming back for the tasty food and great hospitality. read more

Taco Mundo was really good! My favorite part of the restaurant was definitely the staff, and by far! I mainly interacted with three (3) different staff members, and they were all so nice, helpful, and welcoming! I wish that every restaurant's staff was that customer-service focused. I'll also say that I got a margarita, which wasn't the greatest margarita I've ever had, but which was definitely above average relative to the ones I've gotten at similar Mexican restaurants. The chips and salsa also seemed to be fresher than other said Mexican restaurants, and my friend said that their food was pretty good as well. As for my food, I didn't necessarily love it, but it wasn't terrible either. I asked for a cheese quesadilla, and they gave me a chicken-and-cheese quesadilla instead. I understand that this was just a simple mistake, but it was kind of disappointing nonetheless. In addition, the tacos that I got were good and of high quality, but I do wish that they had been a little bit warmer by the time they got to my table. This restaurant offers a menu featuring tacos, quesadillas, taco salads, and fajitas, along with a kids' menu that even includes fries. (The fries are surprisingly good!) I tried the street corn dip. Although, the portion felt a bit small for the price, the flavor was good. The street tacos come on corn tortillas, which were a little dry. I recommend asking for a lime wedge. A squeeze of lime made all the difference. There's plenty of seating for large groups, and we were seated quickly without any wait. Service was fantastic. Our server checked in often and made sure we had everything we needed. They also offer daily specials and a weekday Happy Hour from 4-7 PM. On Sundays, they serve brunch from 11 AM-3 PM and run football specials with beer buckets and pitchers. Just so happen to pop into Taco Mundo on a whim, on a Thursday evening the first week of July. Not knowing what to expect after our original plans had to be abruptly re-routed, we figured you can't really go wrong with Margs & Tacos. Needless to say we hit the jackpot on this random whim. Upon entering the restaurant is so spacious with ample seating, we were immediately greeted and seated by staff. Our sever was Mariah C. and she was just as lovely and bubbly as can be. In a very enjoyable and genuine way not annoying at all. Please note if you think the margaritas are strong and you might be seeing double you are... Mariah is a twin and yes they both work there. It was a little chuckle we all shared when the Margs started to hit. We opted to get all shareable items... 1 Pitcher Casa Margarita 2 Mundo Wings (8) 1 El Mundo Salad Grilled Shrimp 1 Street Taco Chicken (3) 1 Guacamole Both my sister and I, enjoyed everything we ordered. The margaritas were perfect and both the salsa and the guacamole were a hit. The wings were both well seasoned and cooked to perfection. A good wing can always stand alone without any sauces and the Mundo Wings did just that. The El Mundo Salad with grilled Shrimp was lite and refreshing yet very filling. We shared it because we both wanted to try a few items, but acknowledged we could've order the salad and been satisfied. The only items that needed a little extra love was the street tacos, however a little salsa and hot-sauce helped elevate the flavor profile for us. To be honest the food and service was great but what made Taco Mundo a hit and a spot both my sister and I said is must on my next visit was Ida/Ayda (I forgot to ask the correct spelling of her name). Needless to say she was amazing, as a fellow NYer we just clicked and she really spoke our "same language". It was so refreshing to come across someone so cool and relatable. Absolutely loved this place!!! We went on the 4th of July and there weren't many people there but I'm sure it is on and popping any other time! That being said we had an AMAZING time! The staff were amazing, especially Ayda! Her energy and vibe were awesome! Several managers checked in to make sure we were good and it felt real genuine! The food was good. We ordered a Taco Platter with a Cauliflower, Grilled Fish, and a Bang Bang shrimp Taco, Fajitas, guacamole, and a El Gallo Loco Margarita. All of our food came to the table piping hot and fresh! The chips came nice and hot in a paper bag! They were our favorite and we ended up pigging out on them! My only complaint is that the rice in the rice and beans was not cooked all the way. I kept chewing hard pieces. I did tell the manager and she brought me out a fresh bowl to go! It was good! The real star of the show was the Key Lime Pie, I ordered to go! Oh my goodness!! I got the carne asada quesadilla and it was really good. Very crispy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. My friend ordered the chicken nachos and the portion was huge. I'd been to Taco Mundo before and thought it was just okay, but this visit completely changed my mind. We came for trivia night and had such a fun time. It's restaurant week in the midlands (Oct 2-12) so my friend and I came here for dinner. They have the 3 courses for 2 for $40 which was a steal considering we were able to get drinks instead of a dessert. The shrimp was so good with the tempura batter and sweet chili sauce. It was fresh and has a good crunch. The fajitas were very flavorful. Those drinks were so good, sweet and not overpowering with liquor. The chips and salsa were prob the best part. Everything tasted so fresh like they literally just made it in the back 2 seconds ago lol. I really enjoyed myself and our waitress was amazing. Great place to go for a fun night. read more

They had a very nice selection of tequila, but I was disappointed that it was served in a shot glass. Good tequila should be in a larger glass or a flute. Over all, it was ok. I ordered grilled chicken and when it came to the table it didn't look like chicken and nothing seemed fresh, even the salsa and chips were bad. How do you get salsa and chips wrong? My wife and I had the two taco platter and I ordered their top shelf margarita. Disappointment was nowhere to be found. Chips and salsa was good but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find. As my wife and I were ambling around downtown Columbia one weekend, we came across Taco Mundo and decided to stop in and have lunch there. As we entered, we found the restaurant was not very busy, which we liked having missed the lunchtime crowds. We were greeted by Bre, who sat us down and waited on us during our stay. She did a wonderful job, making us feel important BUT not overdoing it. The food we ordered arrived in a reasonable time, was piping hot, and tasted delicious. Both my wife and I enjoyed our meals (and drinks). We felt the prices were very reasonable and the serving sizes generous. It was an overall very pleasant meal. read more

We came in as a family in the evening time, several of us had margaritas and we all got the special that was an appetizer, 2 entrees, & a dessert. The price was great for that promo. We'll start with the Margs, the prickly pear really just tasted like there was not much tequila and a whole lot of mix. Go with the Margarita that has the Grandma's Rockin Rita. That was the best one at the table! The firecracker shrimp was really good, I'd recommend that over their version of street corn. My husband and I got the fajitas, the steak and shrimp was overcooked and over seasoned. The black beans were inedible because of how salty they were. There was unfortunately only one slice of the key lime pie left so one person got that to go and then the rest of us took churros home... Obviously, churros don't travel/reheat well so they were inedible by the time we got home. Great service but not so great food. read more

This is a newer place and I am always on the lookout for decent Mexican food in Columbia. This was not it. I was happy to find a beer I liked on tap but that was the only positive. I ordered a grilled and fried fish taco (speciality tacos at over $5 each). The fish largely lacked seasoning (grilled) or was very salty (fried). The pico was old and watery and both tacos were covered in a lot of mayo-based sauce. The saucy situation was the same for the person I was with who also ordered tacos. In addition, the bag of chips they provided was stale. Service was slow, but it seemed to be a specific person's problem not a symptom of the establishment. Unfortunately I won't be back. read more

horrible! do not waste your time. came here for lunch on my birthday with my husband. a break from kids. first they couldn't bring queso and blamed the closing shift, their tacos were GROSS no flacor, undercooked.
