Not only did Andrew have a genuinely positive attitude, but he actually remembered our exact order from over a month ago, which blew us away. I have one minor complaint and a whole lot of good, so let me get the minor complaint out of the way: The garlic cheese fries had big chunks of parmesan cheese on them, and it would have been better grated. That's it. That's the minor complaint. Let's move on to the good, shall we? The food was awesome. The wife had the PB&J burger, which was a Thai-themed peanut sauce and hot chili pepper jelly burger, and it was just outstanding. I had the bacon and cheese Monte Cristo, and again, it was outstanding, with a sharp mustard that cut through all the savory flavors. The beers were good. The garlic cheese fries had chunks of cooked garlic all over them. The seasoned fries were crisp and tasty. The staff was friendly. This place is definitely on my do-again list. read more

We just went for dinner and ordered the fish and chips. Fish was totally raw, they offered do rush a 2nd order. 2nd order was better but way undercooked still on each portion of the fish. Sent the 2nd order back uneaten and were still charged for it, after being told it would be removed from our bill. Huge bummer as it's been a Summer favorite for us but no longer. read more

I've eaten at the Republic Kitchen and Taphouse two times and each one was very, very good. They serve fresh, homemade food. Shared a Northwest Salad with my mom and it was mighty tasty! I haven't had fried chicken in awhile, and paired with the huckleberry vinaigrette and the substituted cotija, it was perfect. Sorry, we must've caught them on a bad night. Right off the bat, we were served warm beer. The staff reported that their beer cooler was under temperature. Too bad they did not let us know ahead of time so we could've opted not to order the brew. They indicated that the under-temperature cooler is a recurring problem. Seems like an unusual problem for a taphouse. I ordered the Southern style chicken sandwich with french fries, and my date ordered the jalapeño burger with the crisp sweet potato fries. Each entrée was about 20 bucks. My chicken sandwich was gray and rubbery and the portion was small. My fries were limp and cold--like they were baked and seasoned. Seriously. My dates jalapeño burger was decent , but not prepared as indicated in the menu. Her crispy sweet potato fries were chunks of mushy sweet potatoes. Zero crispness. We were so disappointed because we really wanted to like this place. The website offers an interesting menu and an interesting backstory on the location. Both are intriguing. But for us, our actual experience was lacking in both categories. The place is undergoing some remodeling in June. It seems like the remodel is being done by amateurs. Paint tape is on the walls and the edges are sloppy. Not great ambience. No real cohesion to the style or execution. To their credit, the staff were polite and attentive. But the shortcuts on the food, and the food is the main thing, are unforgivable--especially for the price. So, we won't be back. Especially since Capone's is just a few minutes away. :( read more
