Long wait time when you call, missed scheduled pickups, billing issues...I hope the cities will cancel their contract!!!

12/30/25 approximately 10:30am I operate a small junk removal company in the Bay Area and use 5-6 different dumps depending on the job location, which include Republic Came home to visit family in Carlsbad and decided to clean our sisters garage. Just a few items Issue one: there's a green and red light that you would typically wait for to illuminate letting you know it's good to get on the scale. Doesn't seem to work, worker begrudgingly had to wave me in Issue two: worker at station right in front of the bays waves me to him, and he didn't bother to meet me at my car window to communicate instructions. He simple yelled from his seat "Cinco", barely audible. He then very much looked like he was being majorly inconvenienced when he had to say "Bay 5" and get out of his seat. The other Republics take much more pride in their work. I've never had any issue being directed thru the facility. read more

WARNING: This Recycling Center is Cheating Customers! Ever wonder if you're getting ripped off at the recycling center? I caught this place red-handed. If you're not careful, they'll shortchange you by 8% to 20%--and when I called them out, they called the cops on me instead of fixing the problem. Here's the proof: March 17th - I brought in 50 aluminum cans and had them count them: Paid $2.50 (which is correct--$0.05 per can). March 20th - I brought in 50 identical cans but had them weigh them instead: Paid only $1.98 (they claimed the 50 cans weighed just 1.2 lbs.). March 21st - I brought in 50 identical cans again and had them weigh them again: Paid only $2.31 (this time, they claimed the same 50 cans weighed 1.4 lbs.). Same number of cans. Different weight readings. Different payouts. Their scale is a total scam--and that's not just my opinion, IT'S ILLEGAL. How They Scam You: If you COUNT your cans, you get the full 5 cents per can. If you choose to WEIGH them, they rig the scale to make it seem like your cans weigh less. The difference seems small, but it adds up to thousands stolen from customers every day. I Reported Them to: CalRecycle - complaints@calrecycle.ca.gov San Diego County Weights & Measures - (858) 694-2778 California Attorney General - (800) 952-5225 San Diego District Attorney - Consumer Protection Unit What Happened When I Called Them Out? I reported this issue to the Operations Manager, Roberto, expecting him to fix the scale or at least pay me what I was legally owed. Instead? He called the police on me for "trespassing"--just for asking questions! THIS IS FRAUD. Under California law (Public Resources Code § 14573.5), recycling centers must use state-mandated weight averages to determine fair payouts. Manipulating the weight is illegal (Business & Professions Code § 12024). DO NOT LET THEM STEAL FROM YOU! ALWAYS demand to be paid by count, not weight! Report them if you've been ripped off! The more complaints, the faster action will be taken. Warn others! This business is profiting off fraud--don't let them take your money too! (I've attached receipts proving my claims.) So easy to pull up and dump your unwanted stuff. It was well organized. Pretty easy to follow instructions were posted throughout.

Republic recently took over this company and they are extremely bad with customer service. One day we put a metal box into the trash, not even something very big, not against their dumping rules and is something literally written on the front as "Okay" to dispose of. They looked into the dumpster the next day then just left it there. They did not contact us, they did not reschedule the pick up, Nothing. So I promptly removed this item from the trash after the first time they would not pick It up and called someone else and paid out of pocket to dispose of the item. It gets worse don't worry, Republic flat out refused to pick up the dumpster for almost 2 weeks until they felt as if we had been punished enough and trash was literally overflowing from the bins. The item had been removed immediately after they did not pick it up and the next time they drove by I was literally removing the item from the trash and made eye contact with the driver who laughed and kept driving. They drove by the dumpster everyday for two weeks doing nothing and finally actually picked up the trash 13 days later. Terrible company, the monopoly really making these people feel entitled to do whatever they want. read more

This week the Republic driver dumped everything--including the blue recycle cart--into his truck. . . and then drove off without notifying us or the company of the mishap. I didn't have much success with phone and email requests for a replacement cart, but a Google review did get their attention. Republic notified me a new cart would be delivered today! Yay! And sad to say, I actually believed them. . . NO CART WAS DELIVERED. Dishonest and inept, this company doesn't belong in Carlsbad. THE END After one more phone call, I'm happy to say my cart was delivered. . . but why was it all so difficult??? read more

The switch from Waste Management was a huge mistake from beginning. Poor planning on changing of trash containers and customer service non existent. The City has removed themselves from billing so you have deal with Republic directly which is frustrating. I'm paying enough as a residence that the City should be involved - they awarded the contract and stepped away. I rarely review but this was the last straw. I read that it was $55 for a small load in previous Yelp review. In OC it's only $20. I pay enough monthly that $55 is ridiculous! read more

$55 to drive in and drop off a carload of basic household trash that didn't fit in my curbside bin as I cleared out my house for a move. Kind of ridiculous considering I'm bringing the trash here myself and already pay for their service. Also I came prepared with work gloves not expecting any help unloading, but it was a little awkward to be a small 5'3" female struggling with a large broken box of trash while the guy just stood there watching lol. Hours say they're closed on weekends but I went Saturday at 11am and it was open and relatively busy. read more

This company provides the worst service we've ever experienced. We've had at least five or six incidents of either not picking up our trash, breaking bins that are very flimsy to begin with, and not following through to replace the broken items. I have called Republic Services a few times for business purposes. The representatives I have talked to have been good listeners, quickly responded to my questions, and took notes carefully on the complicated issues with my hillside yard. They are professional yet friendly, efficient yet patient, and have made me feel valued as a customer. I appreciate how Republic demonstrates their attitude toward the people they serve by hiring and training employees who provide excellent customer service. read more

I live in a condo that has underground parking. We have a heavy Steel Garage Door that automatically closes & opens. I was existing the garage in my Truck, when the Small Trash Truck pulled in front of me blocking my exit. I had to pull very close to him to get out of the garage or the Heavy Steel Door would have closed on my truck, causing destruction to both my Truck & the Garage Door. I have called in & complained about this driver as he was so Rude to me, giving me the finger & cussing me out. I have also reported them to our Board of Directors of our Condo complex. read more

They were supposed to pick up our recycling on Tuesday. We live in Carlsbad BTW. I have to agree with the other poster. This city made a HUGE MISTAKE hiring this company.They didn't pick up. We called Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. When we called Friday they said it had been picked up. It hadn't. Called Saturday and now they say it's scheduled for Monday. No hassles no problems. If you got to get rid of your junk it's the best way to go. They do accept credit cards and easy to work with.

At $47/dump it's a good value. My main issue is the employees. I've been making a lot of dump runs due to a home remodel, some alone and some with my husband. And as a woman, the experience is completely different when I'm with my husband. When I go alone the employees will not stop staring at me. And not in THAT way, more of like a "what is she doing here" kind of way. I've had one come over just to make unhelpful comments such as "That's too much for you." He then picked up a 6" by 6" piece of drywall out of my truck, threw it out, and then walked away. Like okay? Thanks for coming over, saying something discouraging, and then tossing a teeny tiny piece of drywall out of my truck for me? I'm clearly handling it dude, I don't expect anyone's help and I'm just going about my business, leave me alone. The WORST was once when I backed into a spot, the guy who guided me in then proceeded to lean back on the hood of my truck. Before I had even gotten out, this guy just waltzed over and is leaning on my truck? He didn't even acknowledge me and he was there for at least 5 minutes. I was too shocked to even say anything, and these guys are so rude that I didn't want to make an issue while I was there alone. Moral of the story, going alone as a woman is a completely different experience as when you go with a man. Ladies be warned. read more

You get in line, approach the hostess stand, and pay $28. The maître d' points you to your table, and it's all self-serve from there. Don't wear your finest shoes, as you'll be walking in garbage truck effluent while you throw all your trash in one of the piles. There is a certain satisfaction in tossing breakables at the concrete wall behind. This place is not just a real dump, it's the only one near Carlsbad. read more

now that i find myself mired in a never-ending series of home remodeling projects (with lots and lots of demo), i've become a regular at REPUBLIC SERVICES PALOMAR TRANSFER STATION. still, kinda hard to get that worked up over a dump. usually i load my truck the night before and go early in the morning when they're not crazy busy. at $28 bucks a load they're affordable, well organized and efficient. lines are short and move quickly at least early in the day when i'm there. conveniently close and the crew's courteous and professional. read more

Not a fan, please bring back waste management. I forgot to get my trash out on time recently. My house is first in neighborhood, so, unlike my neighbors, I have no warning to get my trash to the curb in time when I mess up. When this happens I usually push the trash across the street and waste management drivers would pick it up on way out. It is right there and hardly inconveniences the driver. Republic driver decided he wasn't going to help and skipped it. He could have grabbed it but just felt like he shouldn't have to. It's a service I paid for and expect to be rendered when it can so easily be done in situations like this. But the driver chose to be a dick about it. I called and asked for a make-up pick up, was assured it would happen the next day, but it never happened. Did I initially mess up and forget to bring it out on time? Yes. Do I expect them to still pick it up when driving by on the other side of the street? Absolutely. You're a service based industry, and your guy had an easy opportunity to make your customer happy and receive the service he paid for. Now I will have overflowing trash can for a few weeks as I try to catch up. You can do better Republic Services. read more

Well, crap, why didn't I think to yelp the dump earlier?!? Did I say dump? Just kidding, after all this is Carlsbad so it's called the "Palomar Transfer Station." The Palomar Transfer Station is conveniently located on the border of Carlsbad and Vista so the trash is easily transported over the line to Vista. ;-) I've been to the dump a few times and the first time it was so dirty, gross and disgusting. My shiny IS350 was definitely out of place when I backed up to the trash port. Lucky for me, the people at the dump are really nice and they guy was willing to unload my trunk for me. I think he really dug my junk in my trunk. The second time I went to the dump it was even dirtier, grosser and more disgusting. There was a wet, constant mist of trash mist in the air because they were running a few front-loaders to push garbage around. It was so gross that I immediately went home and showered. So here are some helpful tidbits about visiting the Palomar Transfer Station: - Going early on a Saturday morning to avoid long lines - When you enter the Palomar Transfer station, stay left so you don't wind up in the line for the buy-back recycling center - After waiting in the line of cars, you'll come to a window where you pay. I'm really not sure what the pricing methodology is. I've paid anywhere from $10 to $17 for a trunk load. They usually look at me like I am crazy for bringing a sedan to the dump and then waive me on to the next stop bar. Payment is via cash, check or credit card -After you pay you drive up to the next stop bar and wait for the guy to tell you when to drive to the bay and which bay (1 through 5) to go to. You'll need to back in. - Closed toed shoes are required - If they are running the front loaders, you might want to wear a face mask or something to cover your orifices read more

Since we are serviced by Edco Waste Disposal instead in the city of Encinitas, we used our household free coupon to dispose of large trash items (otherwise it would've cost us $28) that would fit into our SUV. If you have an open bed truck make sure there is a tarp over it, otherwise you might be charged a fee for it. This is not an actual dump site, but a transfer to the dump site. This place can be a little confusing to find at first since it's located in the industry area of Carlsbad, however, the easiest way is to look for the cross street light "Faraday Ave" and Orion Street. I don't know how to drive a truck with a trailer. Okay, I don't know how to back up a trailer. I was a little freaked out when I went to dump after four attempts one of the workers came over and calmly said "we're going to make this easy." I was ready to jump out and let him drive, but instead he just walked outside my window and with hand motions and voice commands guided me back to the stall. Easy- Peasy. Thanks to the dude with the well-trimmed moustache! Actually, everyone there was nice from the guard to the cashiers also. Tip: try to avoid the end of the day, it can get busy. I dropped off about 1500 pounds of trash and it was about $37. read more

I love this company! one of their trash trucks crashed into my car and the driver came to my door and took full responsibility. Lisa the claims lady helped me out and took care of my rental and all expenses along with it, and made sure I had my car back to normal before i got it back. First off, I'm a 60-something who remembers the Oceanside and San Marcos landfills. So, I have experience enough to make comparisons. I found the Palomar Transfer Station is a terribly small, chaotic operation. I spent an hour and a half just to dump an 8 ft trailer of stuff. The small vehicles and pickup trucks had to compete with the huge trash trucks for a turn to dump. There is only a space of about 150 feet wide for everyone to back in and offload. This was a Friday morning, by the way, not a busy Saturday. They required a $50 cash deposit as you entered and were weighed. After you dump your load you have to go back to the end of the line you just spent an hour waiting in and be weighed again so they can determine how much to refund you. Needless to say, I didn't get back in line after 90 minutes in Barter Town just to get a few bucks back. Obviously, they know no one is going through that hell again. In the time I was in line, I didn't see one of the vehicles that came in ahead of me return to the line to be weighed again for their refund. I'm amazed, even appalled that this is our only option in the area to legally dispose of our big trash projects. I'm more surprised that the large trash trucks have to go through this daily. It's time for a much larger facility that doesn't rip off the small guys. North County is much too large for such a little dumpsite. No wonder people illegally dump all over the place. read more

This place opens 7 days a week 7.30-4 pm. Website and yelp all say to 5 pm. Drove 25 miles to find the place shut and when we asked the lady it seems they are fully aware the time is listed incorrectly and the website is not theirs. Go figure that one. read more

We have been going to this transfer station for years, typically 2-3 times a year. It's great! Dumping old household stuff that can't be donated mostly. We have a trailer (5x8) not huge. We went this morning (both of us took time off work because we had to have our trailer empty for a project that starts tomorrow morning). We were told that trailers are not allowed any more and that we could NOT dump there. We would have to go to Escondido or Mira Mesa. What???? She (and 2 other men confirmed) that that was a policy that was set in October of 2017.... well, it wasn't a policy when we went there over the summer or the other times before that. Even more frustrating was that their explanation for this change is that the trailers take up more space. They can only fit 2 trailers in at a time, where they can fit up to 10 trucks. I don't understand that logic. The trailers are the same width as the truck. The time it takes to unload is the same as a truck bed. I called the main office and spoke to a really nice guy (Jay) who said he hadn't heard that, but he would pass my message on to his supervisor and that she would call back in 1-2 hours.
