Worst customer service ever. Horrible company to deal with, avoid at all cost. Pick absolutely anyone but republic waste service.

As a long time customer, I am upset with the service during the last two months. Multiple times my garbage wasn't picked up. Recently, I had to contact them Friday, Monday, and Tuesday to receive my Friday pick up on Wednesday. When you call, you are placed on hold for a lengthy period of time. Currently, I have contacted them through the website to cancel my service. The email I receive says I have to call, and of course, be placed on hold, to cancel the service. The local pick up service is terrible and their call center is poorly run. If someone would simply call me, instead of me calling them and being placed on hold, I wouldn't be writing this review. I understand that sometimes, customers get be service. Every company I have ever dealt with owns up to their mistakes and offers something to the customer for the inconvenience. read more

Had Republic as my weekly garbage service for 20 years. Just learned I could save $80 a year by switching to Best Way. Called and canceled Republic service in mid June effective July 1st, which was start of next billing cycle. Received a bill in July that I owe $30 for them picking up the empty Herby plus $10 fuel/administration fee for total of $40! Called them. Put on hold for 42 minutes. They said I was told 20 yrs ago and when I cancelled that I would be charged the $40. I was never told either time. They said a supervisor would call me back by the end if the day. It is now a week later and supervisor has not called. read more

Do not use them for your home garbage/recycling pickup in West Michigan. Use Best Way. I had Republic for the past 10 years. The first 8 were fine but my bill went from $90 every 3 months to $225 every 3 months for the exact same services. Then about a year and a half ago they started missing pick ups on a regular basis. I'd say average of about once every 3 weeks. I would get a message saying it was because of driver shortages or weather which I guess I can understand but the price of service kept rising. Wouldn't you think if you have less drivers to pay and less trucks using gas on the road the price would go down? Or if you are not going to provide the service promised maybe a credit to your customers? Last complaint: Once cancelling and moving to Best way (Best Way was half the cost of Republic and services has been great), I called Republic to make sure everything was set and I did not owe any more because I'd seen some reviews where Republic was gouging customers that cancelled. I was told that I was actually to receive a credit so I would have a check in the mail soon. Nope. They charged me $145.33 to pick up the containers. Has to be the worst customer service I have ever received. I put in multiple complaints on my driver. He has intentionally crushed my can , my neighbors can and 3 others in the same day. He has used his claus to hit my can and knocked it half way into my yard. Used foul language. Taunted me to try and start a fight. For 3 months this behavior has gone on he only picks up 1 of my 2 cans told me to fucking bad. Informed cooperate and nothing has ben done. They tell me my trash would be picked up the next business day and that I would get a phone call from management and never happens. This week neither one got picked up. I have a big family. I have had numerous issues with Republic. Simply put this company or at least the location where I am has absolutely zero integrity. They lied to me over the phone about my past account and told me there is nothing they can do about adding my pickup back to the route so my trash can be picked up. Apparently their drivers use paper routes?? I have had it done before! I hate calling in because every time I do, they always seem to want to argue. They do not care about their customer base. If they respected their customer base they would find a way to assist us. All I wanted to do was pay my bill and get my trash picked up. Now I paid my bill and have to let my trash sit in the front lawn for a week or bring all that trash up to my house. This is terrible service. UPDATE: After posting this review I was unable to PM the business customer service dept. that commented. So I called the corporate location in Phoenix where they transferred me to retention and dealt with all of my problems. They got a pickup scheduled for the same day, they corrected my account issues and were very respectful. I'll bump it to 2 stars for team corporate. We were billed in April for what we thought was the normal garbage services. So we thought we were free and clear for another 12 months of service. It turns out what we paid for was the yard waste. We clarified on the phone with Republic that we did not want to continue our yard service. We were billed anyway. A few months go by and we get a notification from Republic that we have not paid our invoice and they are going to suspend our service. Their solution was to give us a pro-rated credit from the yard waste service (that we never used), as well as charge us a full amount for the garbage service. We're glad to pay the full amount for the garbage service, as we will use that. But it is not fair to charge for a service that we did not know we were enrolled in. During this process, they also could not clearly articulate what we had been billed for and what the amounts were. Republic Service has the absolute worst customer service I have had to deal with. I forgot to put my container out. It was MY faullt. They come around 5:30-6am on Friday. When I realized my mistake at 7am, I immediately ran it out to the road and called Customer Service to see if they could still pick it up if they were in the area. The woman I spoke to couldn't care less about helping me. She wasn't interested in trying to help me figure out a solution. Can I pay an extra fee to have them come back out? Nope. Can you leave a message for my driver? Nope. They just lost this customer. I am sure they don't care. read more

I have had on several occasions my bill increase further and further often over tripling and I call customer service who is usually not so friendly to attempt to negotiate it down. Now I am being charged an almost $25 "FUEL RECOVERY FEE" on my bill, without notice! This has not gone down since gas prices dropped. 20 year loyal client and they raised pricing $90 for one quarter weekly trash pickup. Called billing department and was told I'm way over-paying and am eligible for promotional discounts. Transferred me to sales and was told I had to pay $255 a quarter for weekly trash pickup that was $167 a year ago. Just signed up with Best Way for 1/4 the price. read more

We were customers of Republic for seven years - the last few quarters, I watched the bill go up a few dollars every quarter for fuel fees, etc., but figured that was understandable. The final straw was when it went up about 30% between one quarter and the next. I started looking around and found I was paying double what local companies were charging so I cancelled Republic - both by phone and by contact through their website two days before the end of my last billing period. They didn't recognize the cancellation I did and tried to show my next bill as past due. When I called about the billing, the customer agent told me she didn't know why they did that because the cancellation I'd made showed up exactly when I made it. She corrected it (we'll see if it actually shows up on the billing site). They are also 11 days behind on the pickup of the Republic container - even though I saw their drop off/pickup truck just down our street last week. I can't see a situation where I would ever go back to them - with the exception of today's customer agent, I have never dealt with anyone who seemed to care if I was a customer or not. When I opened a new account with another company - they told me that they had about 1,000 new customers from Republic in the last couple of months. Republic is even making our local news about their bad service for the cities and townships they serve around here. My GF who has had service for the past 27 years without EVER having a problem has had so many problems that this following week she will call for another company to provide service. Republic has lost her business. This has been going on for weeks and weeks. She has been assured numerous times that it will be taken care of. However, once in eight weeks is beyond ridiculous. She has spoken to various people in the office and no one is willing to help. If I were you, I would DEFINITELY LOOK FOR ANOTHER COMPANY!!! Customer Service? There is none. Originally, when I thought I stopped my service, the lady just told me to call back to restart it within 6 months or it would go inactive. The worst company - billing issues, fees, and poor service....also, I wait 30-45 minutes to speak to someone....sometimes, I've been connected with someone who cares, most of them - could care less....nothing but greed, and trying to grow, buying out smaller companies. I have been with them for many years, and they continue to sink deeper.....horrible company. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They do not care about their customers nor do they help to resolve issues in an way shape or form. I have been lied to about how much I would be charged for trash pickup. They took my bins because there was a scheduled pick up of the bins that were left at the new house I moved into. Even though, when I called and asked them if we could just use the bins that were left at our house and they said that would be fine. They knew they were going to take the bins when I intially called and asked because the pickup was scheduled 5 days before I called, so why didn't they just tell me they were going to pick up the bins? Instead I had to miss out on 2 trash pick ups because they took so long with delivering new ones, and charging me $33 for new bins which I was never told I needed to pay. Every time I have called this company I have to be on the phone for about 40 minutes to an hour because I will always get put on hold and when I bring up my concerns no one has ever been able to help resolve the issue. I have spoken to about 7 different people now and I have only been at my new house for a month. I strongly urge anyone considering purchasing service from this company to look somewhere else, because you will regret it as I do. I wish I could have given 0 stars. read more

I live in Kalamazoo Township where, unfortunately, Republic Services is the only option available. This review is specifically about yard waste. Republic Services offers terrible yard waste service. I started this service in June. I usually have to call every other week for someone to pickup my yard waste because it's been missed. Even though Republic offers unlimited bagged leaves, they rarely pick them up. I'm writing this because Republic missed (again) the scheduled Monday pickup. It was rescheduled for Wednesday (today). The truck came around 5:45pm, picked up the container waste, and left the bagged leaves. He was also driving at about 40mph on a dead-end residential street. read more

I've used Republic Trash Services for several years, and this year is by far the worst. I pay extra for weekly yard waste pickup, and they just don't do it consistently. I've had to call to get credited for non-pickup more often than they've actually picked it up. Additionally their rates have gone up every year. PSA: If you call to cancel due to rate hikes, they'll lower your bill. Not a great way to treat loyal customers, and difficult to create loyal customers if they don't have reliable service. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I've used this service for the past 8 years and have not had issue getting my garbage picked up. I have however had numerous issues with the truck squeezing my bin too hard and cracking it leading to a gaping hole and a bin I was unable to utilize for a month as it could no longer hold trash properly. I couldn't get them to drop off a replacement box. I had to call back multiple times and multiple "notes" were send to their dispatch where every time I was assured it would be dropped off on my pickup day. After week 4 of no results I changed service. I now receive a bill charging for the removal of the bin, admin and fuel/environmental fees--Seriously?! This is REPUBLIC's screwup--not mine--and they expect me to pay for it? If you are looking for trash service in the Portage/Kalamazoo area, this is one to AVOID! read more

We have used them for over 20 years. This has been the worst year to date. We use the for our yard waste and who ever the driver is in the Brookwood Heights are us can't seem to hit our house as well as our neighbors weekly with out us constantly having to call them. We will be cancelling at the end of the season. Our pick up is on Fridays, and yet the Kerby still sits out there. read more

Just a warning for people setting up a new garbage and recycling service - I used republic for years even though they have terrible customer service. for years I told them I only had two recycling carts but it was never changed. Recently, with the increase in fuel cost, they raised their "fuel and environmental recovery fee" to $27.80 per pick up! And every time I called to ask about a seasonal hold or increasing recovery fees, I'd get different answers. call three times, get three different answers.....finally had to stop giving this horrible company any more money and cancelled. They did not tell me there was a fee of $182.79 to remove two (not three like always said I had) recycling and one garbage cart! This included a "fuel/environmental recovery fee" of $62.79! How can they possibly charge that to pick up the carts? This company is not ethical and a complete rip-off. I'd advise anyone to seek out a different company. read more

Scammers. Customer service says it wants to be competitive with other competitors and will "take $ off your bill next time." But then you get your "next time" bill and it is the same. I started my waste services on June 3rd. They did not pick up the bin. The bin was put out for June 10th, again no pick up. I called and was told the pick up day was moved to Mondays. That was news to me. This company has terrible customer service. I asked for a discount on my monthly payment. The nice lady advised me that my bill is not sent to me and my city pays for my trash. Very laughable since I live in rural America. Good luck with collecting money for a service that I have yet to receive, that you think 'my city' is magically going to pay for. I cancelled my services due to the increase in prices. I was charged fees for pickup of my bin. I paid my fee for this and continued to receive late charges for a service I no longer have. I called three more times and was told twice my bill was paid in full. I still keep getting a bill and messages that my service is suspended. I have not had service for 5 months. read more

This place is pathetic! I had the trash cart out by the street on Monday afternoon and they NEVER showed up on Tuesday and didn't come until Friday morning after I called repeatedly to them. To make matters much worse, the driver was a LIAR and tried to say that I didn't have the trash cart out before 6 AM when I did, it was out since Monday afternoon, duh!! If he wants to lie, then it just goes to show much they suck and can't even pick up my trash on the right day! Republic picks up our recycling, only. Unfortunately Republic handles the recycling for the Township of Kalamazoo, so we are stuck. Otherwise I would switch. The recycling is built in to our taxes so we do pay for it, but it is a nice luxury. The huge problems I have with Republic are as follows: - Republic skips our bin for no reason. I called and asked. Our recycling is picked up every other week and Team VP recycles nearly 75% of our trash, so when we are skipped our bin is overflowing. During the winter this is hazardous because when the plows drive by they tend to knock everything over. - Republic leaves a mess after they empty our bin. We always have recyclables just blowing in the wind. I've called and asked if we could work something out, but was told by the sassy ladies who answer the phones that they cannot help me because I'm not an official customer. - Republic leaves our bin knocked over OR with the lid open after they empty it - mostly on days when it's raining or snowing. They do this up and down our whole street. -Republic customer service is the absolute worst I've ever encountered in my life. While I appreciate I'm not an official customer because the Township handles my tax bill, the woman who I spoke to was an absolute jerk. I was still angry the next day after speaking with her. If Best Way had recycling we would switch AND pay extra just to be rid of Republic. Saving the planet is so stressful! read more

Called for a large item removal (mattress and box springs). Was told they needed to be wrapped in plastic. Did so with industrial grade blue plastic. Pickup day came and when. Not picked up. Called and was told I was on the schedule and they didn't know why it wasn't picked up. Promised to pick up items the following week and would have a supervisor email me within 24 hours. No email was received. Truck comes and goes. Items not picked up again. Called again and was given the exact same speech. Asked to speak to a supervisor to complain. Was told they were working remotely and that one would call me soon. Did not call. Pickup rescheduled for following week. Truck comes and goes. Not picked up. Called again to inform them of the trouble received SAME speech about not knowing why it wasn't picked up. Again asked to speak to supervisor. Was transferred to FOUR individuals one after another. When asking if they were a supervisor I was told that they were not. Explaining my situation to each one, I eventually landed back to the same person I started with. Was told that the dispatcher had been notified and would call me within a few hours. Dispatcher DID indeed call me back. They told me that a truck had been in the area earlier that morning but that she would call and tell them to go back later. Late that afternoon my items were FINALLY picked up. As of this writing my original date of pickup was one month ago. Still have not received a call or email from a supervisor. Am now looking elsewhere for service even if I have to pay more for it. PS: Spoke to my neighbor across the street whom told me he had the EXACT same issue. Eventually told them to come pick up their bins and is now a customer of Arrowaste. While I don't know much about that company, I believe they'll be signing up another customer very soon. PPS: Last Friday my recycling was not picked up. Come ON! Is it really THAT HARD?! Received an email back from the bot (see the SAME grammatical error in each reply sent to other users) Republic Services has patrolling Yelp. Had the following to say... I have had Granger for the last 3 years or so now and Republic decides that they can call the company ive gone thru to come and pick up my bin while im out of state for vacation and this company takes it upon themselfs to get my bin taken away because its not one of theirs! i will never give this company money even if they were the last place to get my trash taken from. I dont go thru this company for a reason and this has given me even more reason to not go thru these people. im so frustrated and these people wont do anything about it so if you dont want your time and money wasted dont go thru these people go thru Granger if you can!!! read more

STAY AWAY, awful billing practices!!! Renewals always more expensive than competitors due, in part, to 'fees' - administrative fee, fuel/environmental recovery fee - and closing your account brings even more outrageous fees. Republic purchased the company I had service with. I called to make a payment to Republic and it took two phone calls (one of which took almost my entire lunch hour) because their system wouldn't take my payment. After a great deal of hassle I made a payment (online, because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with their system) of over a hundred dollars that they can not find (even though it has been removed from my bank account). Because they have no record of my payment, they canceled my service. I had to call three times before a payment could be successfully processed (apparently all RMS customers are having this same issue). So, I made an additional $50+ dollar payment. It has been three weeks and they still don't know where my original payment is. So, I am switching services. I was warned that there is a charge for them to pick up my bin so I told them I want to drop it off to them myself. They will not allow me to do so. So, I have to pay them an additional $30. Despite having other, less expensive options, we have been loyal customers for nine years at our current address. We sold our home and Republic is going to charge us $60 to pick up our containers. I think this is ridiculous and a horrible way to reward loyalty. We will not be recommending them to the new buyers. read more

I pay extra for the yard waste container and do not always use it. Over the course of the last 4 weeks they have missed the pickup every week. This has been an ongoing issue for the last couple years. I have called and sometimes they claim it was not out which is not true. Their story changes once they learn I can provide video footage of the container being put out the night before. They constantly schedule to do a missed pickup and yet it does not get picked up. Unfortunately I do not have any other options as Kalamazoo Township only allows this company to service my area. If you have other options for waste disposal use them. I am so disappointed by this service. We started a new service and its been 2 weeks and the garbage still has not been collected. I actually take it to the curbside every day and bring it back every night as I am told daily they will pick it up! Its a joke! I've always had a great experience with Republic. They call when I dont put out my trash and they call when its a holiday, letting me know when pick up will be a day late. I recently called to ask about decreasing my bill. They were more than happy to help. I've seen some comments stating that Republic didnt lower their bill until they were told the customer was leaving and that it was bad business practice etc. Except, here is the thing. If you're unhappy with a bill, call and ask. If they dont know you're unhappy, then how can they make it right for you? Also, its clearly marked on the bill that you are paying for services rendered. Read your bill. Its not their fault. I love Republic they are fantastic. read more

Following Labor Day Holiday, I called Republic services about when pick-up would be for our Recycling, which is usually this week on Monday, and when pick-up would be for trash, which is every Tuesday. I also was concerned because others in the neighborhood set out both recycling and trash bins and I asked if the trucks picking up would know the difference between the bins. I was told that every pick-up would be on a one day delay and that the trucks picking up know the difference between recycling and trash. It is now after 5:00 pm and there have been no-pick ups, I tried calling but they are closed as of 5:00 pm. I do not want the recycling to go with the trash after we take the effort to separate, and I am disappointed that we cannot contact Republic with an email, only by phone and only while they are open.
