If I could give them negative stars, I absolutely would. This company made a mistake in billing, had two accounts set up for us which we didn't realize until our can got picked up for "non payment" at the crack of dawn. We went without trash for MONTHS because of a billing error and there isn't another company that services us. We were even told that REPUBLIC SERVICES mailed US a check for HUNDREDS of dollars "that we cashed" and they wouldn't reinstate service until we "payed them back". Hours of phone calls on many different days, got it figured out 4 months later. NOW they are FOUR DAYS LATE on pick up and we have been told everyday we would get picked up. Our trash stinks and is overflowing and accessible to animals since we don't have another container to put it in. I spoke to three reps and a "supervisor" who were all less than helpful...."sorry they told you that, I don't see it in your file" If I had a dollar for every time they told me this over the past few months.... read more

This is long, take that as a warning not to use this company! Had Republic Services for a couple years- limited availability when we moved here for companies. No problems at first, but a few months in they declared they wouldn't drive down our private road and cans had to be at front of road. Fine, all customers on our road agreed as the gravel road was rough depending on time of year. A while later we were told to move them farther down our road to separate from other company cans. Fine, we followed instructions again. Now a few weeks ago they failed to pick up the trash. When I submitted a missed pickup request online, it didn't happen, and when I called she said "truck problems" were the reason and assured it would be picked up by end of that day. Didn't happen, called the next day to be told he didn't know anything about truck problems only that our can wasn't at the end of the road, and he had a picture to prove it was missing. When attempting to tell him we were instructed by the company to place them further, he REPEATEDLY spoke over me and only stated it was not there so it was our fault. And no, a missed pickup would not be honored for the now 2 weeks in a row it had not been picked up. However, we were allowed an extra bag without fee the next week (wow, thanks for not being helpful). The next day after considering the frustrating conversation with him, I called and asked to speak with a manager. She could not explain why one representative told me truck problems and the other said trash can location problems, or that no one had taken responsibility for changing where our cans should be located without notification to customers. I was then emailed the picture to show where our can "was not located". Finally, when replying to the emailed picture, I stated the lack of acknowledged error on their part was unacceptable, and that a refund for missed services was expected. I was informed a request for credit would be submitted for the account. We never saw it though- it was posted to the next billing cycle and we canceled services before that came. To top it off, we were charged for next three months after canceling, (the credits for missed pickups were NOT on this bill either) and when I called to have it refunded I was told it was our fault for not removing payment information. That was a lie- I had removed the card listed so they could not charge in error, so they had NO business touching that card for charges anymore! When I asked why auto pay didn't stop when services were cancelled, that was also my fault- told me I had to go into the inactive account and cancel auto pay settings. She couldn't explain why this was not communicated when canceling services. And as a final straw, I logged in after hanging up, finally being told a refund for charges was submitted, to find auto pay was cancelled and the card was in fact removed when she said it was visible on the account. Lots of lies, misleading answers and just plain failure to give answers or take responsibility. read more

My experience with Republic Services is that they might not send a bill but after not receiving a bill they send a notice for a late fee. When I called the phone person was rude and I was told that I needed to pay the late fee or they would stop service. I switched to Best Way Disposal and now happiness. read more

I continue to have issues with my trash can being collected. For some reason the driver continues to miss my trash can, I even have the back door service scheduled for my trash can. I had to pay extra for this service, because the driver would get out of his truck to collect the 5 trash cans in front of the house next to my home and then drive past my trash can. Again today, the driver missed my trash pickup. I am a Disabled Veteran with PTSD; do I really need to play games like this? If this game continues, I will have my Attorney file harassment charges against your driver. My trash can was missed once in December, once in January, twice in February, and now once in March. When my grandmother owned this property, your drivers only missed her trash 3 times in five years. Now, that the account is in my name, your drivers miss my trash at least once a month? I had set up the Back door service to help your driver, with remembering my trash. But my trash was missed again. read more

I have been with Republic Services for about 5 years and have been pleased with the quality of the service they provide. Our trash is picked up every Thursday around 3pm without incident. I recently cancelled my trash pickup with republic because, as mentioned by another reviewer, my bill increased from $130 to $282 over the years. So I shopped around and found another trash hauler would pickup my trash for $161 per year. People shop around for deals all the time so I thought I could cancel Republic and reassess next year. What i did not know was that Republic only sends out next years bill AFTER the previous years service had expired. So essentially you owe them for the month of service in which you send out the bill. What happened in my case was that i cancelled service and owed a higher service fee for the month I had cancelled because I was not contracted with them for the new year. I also owed them money to pick up the trash barrel and haul it away. I asked if I could return the barrel myself and was told that would not be possible. Another fault I found with them was that, after I had called and said i was canceling they offered me a much lower price to stay on with them. Still not as low as my new offer but she kept trying to go lower to the point where she was over $100 lower then my current bill. I still ended up paying $40 just to close my account with them. Just seems like they have poor business practices and poor customer service. It's nice that we have another option here in Kalamazoo. read more

Horrible horrible. Had republic service for a year. Pick up on Thursdays went well until November 2017. The original understandable excuse for not picking up was the weather and the holidays. I complained about my garbage not being picked up via phone via internet. My garbagehas been picked up less than every other week with complaints and waving down the driver. I have requested to be called by a supervisor with each complaint no one calls. NOW get this: my last pick should have been 6/28/2018 no pick up! I called Scooters to start service with them. Friday no Republic pick up. We called Saturday and told $20 charge to pick up the tote on july5th. HEY WHAT ABOUT GARBAGE STILL IN THE CAN. "I closed the accounts it won't be picked up." I was a customer of Republic for a year and a half. My bill went up twice in a year due to fuel charges and service charges. The last increase was at the beginning of the year where my bill increased $26. I have since cancelled service and went with a competitor where service was half the cost. I did receive a bill for $36 as well as a late payment fee for them to come and remove our old containers. There was no mention of this when I called to cancel. Overall my experience with this company was poor due to the several increases over a short period of time and the cancellation charges, especially since we were never under contract. read more

I called to speak to customer service because I received a bill for $65 more (including all these hidden fees!) after I already paid for the WHOLE year. After speaking to a "manager", I was told there was nothing anyone can do because our area was surveyed and the price was increased due to the survey. There is no contact so they can choose to send you another bill whenever they would like (even if you already paid for services). When I asked to have my accountclosed, I was told it would be $30 per container ($60 total) for them to pick up their equipment. Who does business like this?? Forget that I had to clean my driveway after every garbage pick up... when I discontinued service I get this threatening bill with "final notice" on it with no explanation of what the charge is for only a threat to turn the bill over to a collection agency. Turns out it was for garbage can pick up which took 3 weeks. Good riddance. read more

Do yourself a favor and stay away or run away from this contractor as soon as possible. You can NEVER get a local person on the phone. All the calls go to call centers across the fruited plain. They never tell you until you decide to dump them that they will charge you to TAKE AWAY THEIR CANS once you discontinue service. This never happened previously when I had left once before. There are plenty of other companies around who still have that personal touch. They will get my business. They are CHEAPER TOO:) Their rates are good from the get-go, not like Republic which plays games with people and offers price decreases only after they threaten to leave. Despicable. I have had Republic Services for my residential trash service for several years now and have always paid on time even though their charges have increased dramatically since we started using them. They add fuel, environmental and administrative fees that inflate the bill. I then found that my neighbors pay about one third of what Republic charges. I canceled my service with them Oct. 20th, approximately 2 weeks before the end of our 3 month service period we had already paid for and during that time no trash pick up was made as our current provider took over. I was told they could not pick up their container until Nov. 6th and that there would be an additional charge of $30 for picking up the container??? Well, just received (2) mailings from Republic, one for $51.41 which they added admin fees, environmental fees and fuel recovery fees to the additional $30 they charged just for picking up their container.... And then they wonder why I am canceling their service??? Do yourself a favor and save a lot of money...stay away from them!!! read more

The problem we had with Republic Services was with its billing. Our rates were supposed to be lowered to a Senior Rate. What we were quoted was never what we were billed. We would pay our monthly bill, the check cleared, but the next month's billing showed no or partial credit, so we got an additional fee as a penalty for a "missed payment." So we would call them and get reassured everything had been straightened out and promised the rate would be corrected. But the next billing was no different. And on and on. Every bill was an adventure. So at some point we reached our maximum level of frustration - we figured either the billing department was a land of pure chaos or it was practicing deliberately deceptive billing - so we called and canceled further services. Some time later, a supervisor called and offered to match the competitor's rate (we had gone to Best Way). We declined, so she then offered us a free year of service. We declined again. There was stunned silence on the other end of the line. We explained to her that there was not enough money in the world to convince us to use Republic Services again. And we have been content with Best Way since. read more

I would actually give no stars if that was an option. We were customers for 19 years.We switched to Best Way because we could get an entire year of waste PLUS recycling for only slightly more than a quarterly charge for only waste removal from Republic. Our account was paid through January 31; we called and cancelled service on January 26. We received a threatening "final notice" for $37.01 in April (did not receive a bill prior). I called and was told that fee was for removing our dumpster. If they want to retain customers, they should provide better service and not overcharge. A family member has this service and is in the middle of a billing nightmare. They've been charged for things that never applied to them, and for 'some' reason cannot see their account online even though a (male) customer service/tech tried to help; he could see it and told them the amount owed (that they'd been unaware of, no bill showing the charge) so immediately they paid that amount. We tried different computers in different homes and still could not see it. Now charges have been added since they spoke with the service rep who helped them, and they are simply either errors and intentional additions locally and there is a reason (block?) the customer cannot see their account online. These bill items fraudulent and the person they talked with trying to resolve it (female, name available to Republic corporate headquarters only) was aggressive, argued, and in no way was helpful at all. These customers have an "Excellent" credit rating and don't want Republic's errors to negatively affect it. I've suggested they call Phoenix and if no resolution, file a complaint with the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. read more

I have lived in Kalamazoo township for over 50 years, and want to commend ANY service that can get back and forth, up and down, left and right, and sideways in the WINTER, the township has never taken care of it's residents. Lately I hear the bad mouthing of your recycle drivers who also get blamed for the snow plows inability to plow, tipping and crashing you're cans. My recycle guy, Chris, goes above and beyond to maneuver these awful streets. The recycle containers are SO LARGE if I can't get out because of the weather it holds plenty for extra weeks. If customers didn't use them for their garbage might have more room! Township streets, east side or west side are usually divided into many blocks with yield and stops everywhere so a high speed from these trucks is simply a fabrication of someone's inability to be kind and give our workers a little respect for the THANKLESS JOB THEY DO. Do business with Republic Services at your own risk. My first Yelp review, and doing it to share my experience with Republic Services and their business practices. Why are there only 1 star reviews here? I cancelled Republic after 16 years back in February when I found a much cheaper service. I called their customer service # before committing to the switch and they told me they could not match the price. I left.... Then, a week later, I met and explained my situation to the head of the local office while at the Kalamazoo Home show. He told me they could have matched the price, gave me his card, and asked me to contact him personally when my pre-paid year expires with the new service. He seemed frustrated, but seemed to want me back. Two weeks later they picked up their bins, and I haven't seen their garbage pick up or heard from them since by phone or mail. That all changed today! I just received a final billing notice threatening me that they will now resort to collections and legal action after repeated attempts to get me to pay my bill. There has been no contact with me and they have not sent me anything, or contacted me in any way since I left months ago. I will be visiting the local office on Monday, and it won't be to renew my service. I am now forced to use my time and energy to protect myself and my credit from Republic as a result of their failures. Please form your own opinion regarding Republic's corporate principles. I wonder if the local office will blame the corporate offices as they did for losing my business in the first place..... read more

I just want to be done with this company. I called after receiving my last bill to try to get a price match to an ad I received from another local company. First, they make you jump through hoops to try and get a competitor price match (want the exact breakdown of charges, etc). I actually did all the leg work of getting them the requested info and they still could not match the price. Ok, no problem, so I decided to cancel and switch to the lower priced company. I cancelled before the next billing cycle started so I thought that was that. Now I see they are invoicing me for a new quarter with services starting in April (last pickup was in March). They are also trying to charge me for removing, re-delivering and removing my containers. I have NO idea why they decided to pick them up and drop them off multiple times. This is an error on their end. I am also being charged a late fee and an administrative charge. I am NOT their customer anymore, STOP billing me! I just want to pay them the pick up fee (for ONE pick up- not my fault they picked them up, dropped them off, picked them up again multiple times) and be DONE. It seems like part of their business strategy is trying to milk people for bogus charges when they cancel service. The customer service agents are also horrible. While they've always been polite enough, they are terrible their jobs. I would call and talk to an agent who would say they have fixed my issue and put a note on my account. Issue resurfaces, call and talk to a new agent who says there are no notes on my account, but they will fix it and make a note about it. Wash, rinse, repeat. I doubt they ever note anything about your account, just want to get you off the phone and my you the next reps problem. Poor business practices all around. read more

Jeesh. I see by the other few posts that the boat is not lonely! I don't normally do this but decided I would for this particular issue. Our rates went from like $170, to $258, to now $313 for annual residential (trash and recycle). We are not renewing. I called twice this morning to cancel and nobody answered. I see this may be a common occurrence. Sorry Republic. WE dragged our feet for several years but have decided to change to Best Way. read more
