Cake, Armenian cake

Great place, always clean, everything is neatly organized, fresh, and, most importantly, delicious. Mediterranean desserts are something truly special, so make sure to try this cake! :)

Wonderful little market that is filled to the brim with a wide assortment of foods. I stopped in for a drink while doing my laundry next door and am now coming in regularly. Wonderful drinks and food products from Armenia, Georgia and Russia. Full deli and bakery options and now a small section of fresh produce as well. The owners are always very welcoming and helpful. Convenient parking right out front that is strictly monitored so you should find a spot easily.

I found them on Google, and what was my surprise that they turned out to be a grocery store with good Armenian cuisine!

We were so hungry that everything was eaten before I had a chance to take any photos. The prices are very reasonable. We also bought a sheet of sesame bread which was so good. Overall, we would come back if we are craving for Persian food. Service is fine. The deli is located inside the marketplace.

We first kind of did an overview of the whole place, checking out the bakery, the kitchen (wonderful aromas) produce, and then the canned and jarred goods. Then I worked up my courage at the kitchen and asked the guy if he could help me, because I had no idea what I was looking at, but it all looked and smelled amazing! He was so sweet and after asking, if we were vegetarians, which we weren't, he then gave us samples of two of the most popular dishes. These were both stews and had such a complexity of flavor. One is with ground walnuts, and pomegranate juice and small little meatballs, and the other was this amazing mix of herbs and greens and fava beans, which I might not normally choose, but tasted great! We ended up getting containers of those and then tried a couple different types of the rice. One had dill and other herbs in it, while the other one seemed to have lentils and maybe raisins? Once again, so good. We also got a quarter chicken and he packed them all up. It comes with this wonderful yogurt, herbed condiment. Our only mistake was not also picking up some flatbread to go with it. I picked up a chopped cucumber and tomato salad, and it's great because they have the dressing separated inside the container so it doesn't get soggy. Yes, like most places in Encino parking is going to be interesting! Their parking is directly in front of their entrance and at first it didn't look like there was anything, but then we realize there actually was. I found everybody friendly, even had some very lovely woman recommend some of the nuts and seeds to us. Speaking of which they have an enormous selection of both. I had no idea there were so many different types of sunflower seeds to name just one of the selections. In retrospect, I should've gotten some cookies! We will definitely be back, I would think it would be a great place to stock up and treat friends to an interesting set of new tastes. If you're vegetarian, they have an enormous selection as well.

Whenever I go down to the Los Angeles area to visit family I always make it a must to get some quality Jewish and/or Israeli food! Unfortunately our options for both are limited up in Northern California, but Angelenos are spoiled with their plethora of options in this space! I hadn't been to Super Sal Market in years! Probably since I had lived in the L.A. area 10 or so years ago. Super Sal is located in the South San Fernando Valley (Encino to be exact) on Ventura and White Oak. It is a Kosher/ Jewish grocery store that has a wide array of Jewish/Kosher/Israeli products! I was in the need for some Israeli spices to bring back to my wife so I knew I had to hit Super Sal up! When you walk in you're automatically amazed at how many Israeli products they've imported! Anything and everything from cereals, shampoos, cutlery, and even ice cream!!! (Seriously, someone tell me how that works?? Wouldn't it melt on the way over here?) You honestly feel like you're in Israel! They also have freshly baked breads, a deli section, and a wide variety of Sephardic foods too! I'm not as familiar with Sephardic Jewish food so it always intrigues me to see new goods I didn't know about before! Even if you're not Jewish or Israeli, a visit to Super Sal Market is still a fantastic cultural experience getting to see all the meats, foods, imported items, and more! I give Super Sal 4 out of 5 stars because they are a little expensive (which I get because a lot of their products are imported or difficult to find). And I wish their floors were a little cleaner. But at a time when antisemitism and Jew hatred is high in America it's important to support Jewish shop owners. In a nutshell, if you're in the San Fernando Valley and are looking for Jewish, Kosher, or Israeli products, hit up Super Sal for a unique shopping experience!

I always appreciate that I never really have to wait in line to check out. They move fast! Compared to the other location in Tarzana, the employees here are MUCH nicer. I like that lately they have had a lot of samples to try right in the front of the store. The other day they were sampling their new margherita pizza and it felt like a full on pizza party with everyone walking around with a slice in their hand. I just wish this store had a section that had cold wine/water etc. I've see that at other locations but I know space is limited. My son loves that they give him stickers and we always look for Claude the gorilla. We love Claude! He's always hiding around the store in his little TJs shirt. Keep an eye out next time! This store is tiny but mighty. I love how they showcase new products and keep things stocked (better than I have seen in the past).
