I came here October 2nd for my 30th birthday. I just meandered in and saw a "You're in Steelers Country!" banner and I died. I'm from Pittsburgh so I was in heaven. It's the only Steeler Country bar I've come across in New York City. The place has great happy hours. $4 wells until 7 and $4 drafts all night. Tuesdays are Taco Tuesdays and they are $1 each. Beef, chicken or fish. The music is great. They have a good jukebox and a great selection of draft beers. Yuengling of course! The staff is really sweet and the management is great. We got a round of drinks on the house. Got Magic Hat #9 which I don't find too often. The bar is very sporty but also chill with a mixed crowd. The place has about 12 flat screens to watch any game. It has couches in the back so it's great for groups. The ambiance is classic old fashioned pub. They have a tin roof and kitschy signs all over. Very relaxed. read more

Came here with a few friends pretty late on a Friday night, after all the happy hour deals had ended. We managed to get a corner with a few couches and a table. It was pretty nice. The place where we were, was set up just like my living room, we had two couches facing each other and a coffee table in between. Something awesome that they had was that they had beers that were $4. They always have something that's $4. Last night when I went, it was blue moon. Classy. We also enjoyed one of their creamsicle vodka drinks. Also very delicious. We sampled some of their wings and waffle fries. Both were incredible. It was kinda hard to get service at the bar, but the waitress we got when we sat down was very nice and friendly. read more

This place is hilarious. It's name drew us to it. Reservoir. It's so raw. Anywho, the patrons that come here are hands down the most annoying people on the planet. It's like people that have been on a bender for 5 days. They don't know the difference between Billy Joel and Elton John. The staff are all deeply miserable. It's not that they are bad at their jobs or anything, it just that their depression runs deep from having to work in such an environment filled with addicts and/or college students. One can only take so much. I know from experience. It's so devastating, and the depressing energy almost starts to become tangible the more you sit there and watch the show. There's no joy here. I will say that the fish tank behind the bar is spotless, which gives me high hopes for the cleanliness of the rest of the establishment. Didn't try the food, but the psychopaths next to us seemed to enjoy it. The bartender has glimpses of that certain type of gay man misogyny, you know the one. Not all gay men have it, only the ones that are self serving and throw you out after they figure out there is nothing in it for them. It's more common than you think. And it happens with all types of people in general, not just gay men. However, it's pride month and I aim to be inclusive. I will say though, he was attentive and I cannot fault any part of his work ethic. Don't know him well enough. We had everything we needed and were happy with the service. The beer selection is good. The liquor selection is awesome for a place of that caliber. Like wow. Casamigos anejo? With this tequila shortage?! Hell yeah! Didn't have any, but it's nice to know I could if I wanted to. It's nice to have options. The moral of the story is that I would never make this a destination location, but if I was passing by I would definitely stop in to watch the freak show for a bit. I live in a constant state of denial and no longer analyze my check with a fine tooth comb when I go out because it triggers my fear of the disappearance of the middle class. Let me just start by saying "What a experience"!!! I work near by, I'm in the industry and love to try new places and this place just felt like home. I came in not too long ago for a playoff game and was with some co-workers and we had such an amazing time. I'm someone who really appreciates good bar food and they got that part COVERED in my book. Servers very helpful, but I must say that the service I received at the bar top was it for me. I'm not one to wanna sit at a table because I'd rather sit at the bar to be apart of everything going on in the bar and especially if there's a game on. Came here for an industry after party. It's a little tiny for a crowd but the food I had was really good. It's a relaxed, casual atmosphere that still had some class to it. The server was friendly and they did bring the drinks we'd ordered to us. I have no complaints here though I'm not the drinking type so I can't speak for alcohol selection or composition or drinks. read more

Upon first entering Resevoir, you would think it's very tiny. This could be due to the fact that it was crowded the night I went and/or the fact that most of the seating is in the back. One you push through the crowd, though, and end up in the back seated area it's actually very pleasant. Tons of TVs (let's go Yankees!) and the staff is friendly. They make nice, strong drinks ( this is based off what someone else told me since I'm a beer gal myself). They also have food (yummy cheese fries FTW). This past Thursday I met up with some friends and we went to this spot to have drinks. It was a nice out and we sat outside. My friends had an old fashioned and a Bahama Mama. The old fashion was great according to my friend. And my other friend said the bahama Mama was not good at all. It tasted like a watered down fruity drink. I had a regular margarita and it was blah. It definitely lacked tequila. Service was fine, nothing to really talk about. She didn't know what was considered happy hour drinks which was strange. A lovely little dive bar in NYC. No frills. It's old, smelly, dingy, cracked tile floors, wood paneling... but it works. A classic dive that's perfect for a couple of drinks. Even if you hit up Reservoir at Noon on a Monday, there's some one there to chat with over fries and a beer. Regulars frequent the bar. Usually takes me an extra minute or two to get a beer because I don't know the bartenders by name. I always see people sitting down eating, but I've never taken that leap. Lots of flat screens (surprisingly) for your viewing pleasure, not big tube TVs or TVs with antennas -- I'm actually kind of shocked. After bragging about his cheeseburger, one of the customers choked on the American cheese and Shaffer performed CPR on him. The gentleman survived and went on to finish his burger! Stopped in this place with a friend and had a drink at the bar. Rude bartender (short, plump, lots of tattoos and was wearing grills on her teeth) was talking about my friend to the waitress at the end of the bar. It was really awkward and they kept staring at us. Our second drink was made incorrectly (she clearly didn't know a very common mixed drink) and when I asked for her to remake it she basically snarled at me like a dog and then walked away. We never got the replacement and decided to leave. On the way out the bouncer said "sorry about that, she can be a little nasty sometimes". So I guess we dodged a bullet. Won't return for sure. This particular time the bartender (medium height female, dark brown hair , accent) proceeded to say " Can I ask you a question" I said "sure" . She goes "how come you order food but you don't tip?" Unfortunately I sat at the bar but it was bustling with college kids who did their own thing. We were able to score a good spot to watch some games on their TV's and enjoy some reasonably priced beers. $4 for a Magic Hat/Guinness is real good for NYC. We decided to hang and grab a bite too. That was a mistake. Their burgers were of cafeteria style taste but a little thicker. Such a let down but I am sure if you have a few drinks in you, it would be palatable. A hit and miss dive bar. Long and narrow, so there's a fair amount of room, but not width, so you often get bumped by people just trying to get by. Staff did nothing to make us feel welcome, but neither did we feel a pressing urge to leave. They seem obsessed with asking for IDs though. Been taking to the manager several times and they "promise" to pay me back, but still has not yet received my money back, and it is a few months ago now! Experience: Friday, December 16, 2016 One word: TERRIBLE. Worst experience i've EVER had at a bar before. For starters, my three friends and i walked into this bar and it was PACKED, now that wasn't the problem, nor was it a problem that there was no seating, even though it was only 8:30pm. We sat at the closest table to the door which only had 3 seats. A lady walked up to us and asked us to show our IDs, and we do so. She was very kind, probably the only kind person there. A few minutes go by and the bouncer asks to see our IDs. After explaining we had already shown someone our IDs he began to have an attitude- typical new yorker, okay, we got over it. The kind lady came back to our table and sat us at a nice four top RIGHT in front of the specials board. In which i read: "$5 well drinks." After ten minutes of waiting for our server, she finally comes over, and she's this fun, short haired blonde. I ask her which well drinks the bar offers and she begins to list a bunch of alcohol, and the last alcohol she names is Kettle One. Shocked, i of course ordered it, and i said: "I'll have a well drink, if it's kettle one" and she nods and says okay, my friend then ordered, and said: "I'll take a well drink as well, but vodka." The two guys at our table then ordered Modelo's. Then, one of the guys REPEATS the order by saying: "Two modelos and two wells." and the girl smiles and says okay and walks away with our credit card to hold the tab. (I didn't know you had to hold a tab when you're sitting at a table at 8:30pm but whatever.) She comes back 15 minutes later with our drinks, and i can smell my friends vodka beside my kettle one, and before our waitress walked away, i asked her what kind of alcohol my friend and i had. She said i received kettle one, and my friend received vodka, i then proceeded to question again that kettle one WAS INDEED a well drink, and she said no. And i then told her i did not want the drink and she said she could not take it back, even though i hadn't even touched it. She had a very big attitude at this point and I didn't like that at all. We drank our drinks anyways and i was going to order another, except she took twenty minutes to come back and check on us. We asked for our check, and she took an additional ten minutes to get our checks to us. When we got our check we were told that we couldn't split it because we didn't clarify at the beginning of the order. I'm not a genius at customer service, but i have been a server for many years, food for thought, shouldn't she have asked us if the check would be together or separate, since she saw we were two couples on a double date? Hmm, guess not. So we decide to just give the person with the card, cash and he can just swipe his card for the total. But she didn't come back with our card for another ten minutes! We were so annoyed and we kept staring at her, hoping she would get the hint that we wanted her to come to our table. But she finally did and we decided not to tip her because of her terrible service. We aren't from new york so it definitely ruined the experience we we're all hoping for. Side not: I guess we weren't the only table having problems with her, because someone else walked out on their tab. Oops! She needs an attitude check, and learn some better customer service skills. read more

Sometimes your day isn't going your way. Work was long. You stay late. You realize there's someone else's vomit on your clothing. You know, it's one of those days. Then you realize, it's FRIDAY! That was me last weekend. I had no energy or desire for happy hour, I just wanted to crash. Not sleep, actually crash into my bed and lay there. Once again, not sleep. Just lay there, in fetal position, and cry like a baby. Once you get up, you shower and change. Finally you're ready to hit the town. Upon getting into Manhattan, I was still a bit away from my friends who already started the evening. I didn't have time for that. I needed a drink, now! So we went to the closest place Yelp told me to go. Welcome to Reservoir Bar. This place is a diamond in the rough. Thank you Yelp! The place has an old school charm that is rare in the city these days. Came in and there were tons of flat screens up on the walls. The only negative was it let me watch my Mets. Damn those Mets. A bit of a rustic look for the decor. So what was this, a sports bar? A restaurant? It's a bit of both. We grabbed a seat in the back, and ordered up some grub. Nothing says hello to the weekend like a turkey club and a fat cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was one of the bigger ones I've had in a while, pretty good stuff. That turkey club though was phenomenal, one of the best. Saw their menu on the wall. It's filled with lots of other good sounding things I'd like to get myself into. Some of those wings sound great to have if you came here to watch a game. I noticed while I was sitting down they had a picture of Neil O'Donnell up on the wall. Former Steelers/Jets QB. When I switched to the bar, I asked about it. The bartender told me how it's a Steelers bar. I guess I should have noticed the giant sign. He told me how O'Donnell came in for a Steelers playoff game, drank like a mad man in the first half, and then started serving the whole place in the second half. Funny stuff. The bartenders were real chill and friendly. After finally catching my breathe and getting the work week off my mind, I was able to leave. Not before taking note of how awesome this place was. If I was the kind of girl who went to bars alone, this would be the bar I'd go to. A girlfriend and I hit this pace at about midnight on a Sunday (at least I think it was Sunday...it might have been Monday..either way, it was an "off" night for barhopping). A well-stocked jukebox does a lot to raise a dumpy bar's cred in my estimation. This jukebox was full of "ohmigodiLOVEthissong!!!!" moments. I think I dumped about 20 bucks into the thing and spent the rest of the evening rocking out and dirty dancing with my hot little girlfriend. We made fast friends with the crowd, mostly men. All different ages, all different types of guys. They did, however, all have two things in common. They were all super drunk (and I'm guessing that "super drunk" is kind of normal for them) and they all tried to come home with us. Sadly, they were disappointed. But seriously...if I was the kind of girl who went to bars alone, I'd come here. I have no problems with heterosexual male bartenders taking more interest in ladies. None. But you can't ignore customers. After working across the street from this place for almost a year, how I have not stopped in is beyond me. Well that's about to change, folks! My colleagues and I were looking for a "laid back after work drink," and working in the NYU neighborhood, not much can be classified as "laid back" with these youngin's all over the place. I just wanted some decent grub, a good happy hour deal, and a spot to sit. Well, I got that here! After reading the reviews, I definitely went with the waffle fries, and while I def have indigestion (oh old age), it was delicious! We all enjoyed a couple of rounds of shocktop, onion rings (yummers!) and I had a turkey burger. Service was kind, not overly attentive (this is a good thing IMO) and fast enough. For a Friday after work, it wasn't too crowded and the folks that were there were definitely not in their early 20s enjoying the undergraduate life. I don't dislike youthful folks, but I've just been there and done that. It was a mixed crowd, and they played good music. Prices are just right and hey, I got to sit down! There are so many better options than this place in the area. Based on my experience last night with our waitress and the food I ordered, I'm a little confused how this place stays in business. My friend had been here a couple times and knew it was a solid spot for an extremely cheap meal. The only thing I liked about this place is how cheap the drinks and food is. They offer your typical bar menu consisting of burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. I decided to go with their Cajun shrimp special for the night. Obviously I wasn't expecting it to be out of this world, but the shrimp were seasoned so strong, that they were literally not edible. I felt my cholesterol rising as I bit into each salt bomb. Ended up just eating the spinach salad under it and leaving the shrimp. The major reason why I am leaving a 1 star review is due to the way our waitress handled a problem my friend had with one of his dishes. I'd rather not go into detail but she didn't even apologize and was immature about the whole situation. After that happened, she ignored us till she brought the check (which contained the dish that she said she would take care of). At that point, we didn't even bother to get it fixed. I guess it's a decent dive bar to grab some cheap drinks and watch the game, but I wouldn't recommend eating here. With the tragic demise of our beloved Ninth Street Market, our utmost desires for a cozy dinner by the fireplace have been scattered around Manhattan mercilessly. Fear not dear user; let's check what's on the Reservoir, shall we? So it's not a restaurant, and the food is dive bar fare, but if you are a cold mofo, and just need to sit down by the fireplace while having some wine, beer, or fries, walk towards the back and sit on one of the big couches by the fire.... Nice right? An Irish with a warm heart; perfect for nightcap duty on weekdays by the fireplace, and drinking bouts of your college-ridden variety. To each his own I guess; so if you won't keep it as one of your primary options, then at least keep it on your Reservoir list. read more

I've been coming to Reservoir for quite some time now that I work in the area. It's an excellent neighborhood bar that stands out. Not too many places like this anymore, especially when all you need is a drink or two after work, or during your lunch hour ;) Usually I don't write reviews but tonight deserved a good one. Melissa, my favorite bartender there, was serving as usual. She's quick, friendly, beautiful inside and out. And it always amazes me how many names and drinks she remembers. I'm not the only one, about 90% of the people who walk in, she already knows who they are and their usual drink. She's quick to refill them too which I'm quite thankful for! Anyway, on this particular night, I witnessed the worst three customers I thought could only be straight out of a nightmare. Another bartender made their drinks, in which the first female customer, (let's just call her Ms. Obnoxious) asked Melissa with a smug attitude, "Is this virgin because I can't taste ANY alcohol in it". This was ridiculous because I saw the other bartender make it. Melissa said, "I didn't make it but I'll make you a new one". Melissa then made the drink in front of her, measuring it out too. Ms. Obnoxious still didn't want it, without even trying it. She wanted a $4 shot instead now, to replace her $4 vodka and orange juice. Maybe if she wasn't such a PITA and wanted a strong drink, she'd learn how to order. BUT EVEN WHEN the shot was poured, Ms. Obnoxious then complained it wasn't "put close enough" to her. At this point, people are staring and not understanding how someone can be so demeaning and just downright ugly to another person WHO IS SERVING THEM. Thankfully the three left soon after paying their tab after arguing loudly that they shouldn't tip. THEY LEFT THREE CENTS. $.03 is insult to injury, rude, despicable, and indecent. I wish those three were reading this because my bill was $20 and I tipped for two great bartenders who I am happy to see all the time and love what they do. Those "people" can F themselves and have $4 drinks elsewhere. OH WAIT NO THEY CAN'T BECAUSE RESERVOIR ISN'T LIKE EVERY OTHER BAR IN THE CITY. Long story longer, Sweet Melissa we got your back. Resevoir Bar is a neighborhood staple and a super friendly place to hang out. I often stop by on my way home for a drink and watch a game. The only time I avoid it is during Steelers games because it gets crazy rowdy in here with throngs of Black and Yellow. Also, most items on the menu are pretty standard bar food but I'd say it's a tad better than other bars. The TV situation could leave a little to be desired (small TVs, not the most well placed) but the friendly atmosphere makes up for it. I became personally attached to Resevoir Bar because it has the distinction of being the only place to eat or drink in my 'hood during the Hurricane Irene fiasco in 2011. We ate 3 or 4 meals in a row here and ignored our stash of canned disaster foods. Not only did Resevoir vow to stay open despite all the doomsday predictions, they had a hurricane drink special. Solid sports/dive bar not far from Union Square but also not far from the East Village. It's a great location to meet up with friends after work and grab a beer or some drinks. They have a solid happy hour. Even when it's not happy hour, they usually have at least one draft beer that's $4. I usually drink beer there but tried a margarita the other day and the bartender did a nice job with it. Solid amount of tequila and not overloaded with sour mix as some bars do it. It went for $8 but was a solid drink. The bartenders are friendly and one of the reasons I keep coming back. It also has a really solid atmosphere. Classic bar with bar stools and hightops in the front and tables in the back. Table service when it's busy. A good niche for whatever you're looking for - whether it's chilling alone at the bar, grabbing a drink with a friend at a hightop, or having a romantic outing or a friendly get together in the back. NEVER AGAIN! I'm sad to say Reservoir has been sold. I've been a loyal customer of this Greenwich Village establishment since the early 90s. The new owner immediately made modifications in order to lower his cost, raise prices; in return lowered the quality of the food and the experience of being there. A group of 5 who we sat next to me. All said; they're disappointed with the food and service. In addition, they mentioned all plan never to go back to Reservoir again. The group of 5 noted, they have been going to Reservoir with their friends and family for over 10 years. Reservoir's signature and famous steak sandwich on garlic bread has been completely altered. Very cheap chewy meat with a foul oder kick to it. Most of their new waitress have broken english and a robotic personality. I am done with this place. read more
