Deon Watkins is the GM at the Residence Inn Akron I stayed two nights ago. He's a new GM at this property with aspirations of having several under his management. I learned this when I drove with him on Monday. You need to hear this story: I called when I landed in CAK airport asking if the property could send the airport shuttle as it is advertised to have. I heard the hesitation in Deon's voice and as he told me that there was an issue, but if I could give him 5 minutes, he'd call me back. I told him there was a different Marriot nearby and not to worry, I'd simply go elsewhere. He said, "no, don't do that ... just 5 minutes, I'm going to figure this for you sir". Whatever. That's cool. He sounded like he wanted to help and that's surely worth 5 minutes of my time for his investment in my problem. When he called me back, he said "Mr. Bain, our shuttle isn't yet in-service and I don't have anyone available to work the front desk for another few minutes, but I called one of my other workers to cover for me and I'm coming in my personal car to pick you up. This is the kind of can-do attitude that I look for when hiring on my team and really refreshing as the US, once known for its customer service, has surely waned over the years. On the drive, he shared with me the new role he has at the property and about how he sees opportunity to institute better processes at this and the others under the management company's umbrella he might be offered in the future. Thinking about process improvement in a hotel chains is generally as exciting to me as looking at my parent's photos of an antique store they once visited, but he was glowing about the opportunity; so much so, that I actually felt excited with him. That attitude + aspiration is a winning formula. I have little doubt he'll have a region or a district under his purview in 2-5 years. Kudos Deon. Wonderful hotel for our sports team. Plenty of room in the rooms and common area for people to chill out and relax together. The personnel who worked there were very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was good. Nothing spectacular but decent. Gym could use a refresh and more weights but other than that great place to stay. read more

Staff go out of their way to help you, rooms are always clean traveled and stood here several times. Also lots of late night food walking distance and target/Walmart across the street. read more

No hot water at 7am, and the front desk lady couldn't care less. She was very unfriendly and unconcerned. I'm a titanium elite member so I stay at many Marriott properties, and cold showers are normally not a thing and neither is poor customer service. Would definitely NOT recommend this hotel. read more

I am a seasoned event and wedding coordinator in the Cleveland area as well as the Naples, Florida, Georgia, Columbus and Minnesota. My client requested to book Residence Inn Akron-Green for thirty hotel rooms for her upcoming wedding in May, 2025 at Firestone Country Club. I placed two phone calls to this hotel and asked for the sales group department. I was told that Jenn ( who is also the GM) was the head of sales and I was told to leave a voicemail on her phone regarding my needs. I did this twice and received no call back or any communications at all. Today I placed number three phone call to this hotel and was once again told that Jenn in the sales department was not available. Again I was told that I would be transferred to her voicemail. I told the very nice representative who answered the phone at the front desk that would be no good because she does not return phone calls. I have never in the years I have been in my profession have experienced such unprofessional and inconsistency in a hotel. Additionally the lack of people skills is very disappointing. I endeavored to call the main headquarters to file a complaint, however same thing there...no person to talk to...."Short staffed" is what the robot receptionist states. read more

We stayed here for my daughter's wedding and it was less than pleasurable. Her room had no A/C the night before her wedding and it was FILTHY! All of our guests who stayed complained about how dirty their rooms were. The staff that we dealt with were fantastic, but nobody with authority to make thing right can bother to return a phone call. DO NOT stay here, they are thief's! Both me and my daughter both got double charged on different credit cards. One card was used to make the reservation and another used to pay for the room. Don't make this mistake! They told me they don't have record of the charge. I left a message for the general manager, Jen, who has never called me back. Sound very suspicious, I wonder how many people don't check their accounts closely and they get away with this. Where are the checks and balances. I'm disputing with the credit card company but what a hassle when a charge reversal would remedy the situation! Still haven't gotten an explanation on why I was quoted $169 for the room, one of the credit card charges, but was also charged $212, the other credit card charge. read more

I stayed here a week before this stay and the manager, Thomas, remembered my name. He would also call me by name when I would call the front desk..made me feel like he cares. The staff was extremely friendly and the rooms are clean. I would recommend anyone looking for a hotel in the area stay here. read more

Nice hotel, spacious room, friendly staff. We stayed here during the Bridgestone Classic and could not have been happier with everything. Great breakfast too...that crumb cake was to die for. I stay at lots of Marriott properties... This one is amazing. It isn't that the hotel is new (May 2014), rather it is the staff that makes me want to come back. Room was extremely clean and prepared. The little things showed... drawers were open and had been dusted. Breakfast area was spotless. Great staff made the morning. Front desk staff were attentive and polite. Marriott needs to use this hotel as a model for how to open a new property. I hope I get a chance to visit again. read more

I concur with the first review in all facets: great rooms, great desk staff, great public space-I only disagree with the star rating. I have been platinum with Marriott for a long time and gold or better in most of the major programs; I've stayed at their properties on three continents-this is a five star property (since 4.5 isn't available). It stands out from its peers and shows that Marriott has the business model right-from luxury lines like the Ritz to the business/family friendly brands like this residence inn. I took a chance on this location when I had to rebook with less than 24 hours notice-I hit the lottery! I will add the extra 20 minutes to my trip to stay here again. read more

Was here on business for about 3 weeks, and it was an extraordinary stay. Jim, Boquisha, and DeAndre were amazing, they were extremely humble and eager to make my stay better every time I spoke with them. They were very pleasant and generally seemed to care about my experience. Anything 10 co-workers and I ever asked of them they handled promptly and with a smile. If you know your Marriott family breakdowns and focus to each then you know what a Residence Inn seeks to accomplish. This hotel is brand new, decorated nicely and the rooms are the newest generation (9 series) themed and layout. I was impressed by the front desk staff and management. They are very attentive to the guests. Service and attentiveness was on par with higher level Marriott branding. The food station for breakfast was well stocked and was not cheapened down. The food was good and mostly what you would expect from the Residence Inn selection portfolio. The lobby and sitting area are very conducive to the work traveler who wants to stay out of the room to get work done. The rooms are generation 9 as well and are very conducive to working in room as well. The nice thing is for a Residence Inn it has an indoor pool and a well equipped workout room for a hotel. The basketball court and outdoor sitting and BBQ are unique as well and well placed to play ball away from a family BBQ outdoors. Overall its an upper level Residence Inn with a great location and well trained staff. I will check back in a few months and update this after the initial newness has worn off and everyone settles in to business as usual, but it is off to a good start. Also the only reason for a 4 star is a Residence Inn is not a 5 star no matter how good just because of the niche it serves so its top of my grade in its class. read more

I'll start by saying I stay at Residence Inn (RI) hotels all the time and rarely have any issues. This stay was a little different...to begin when I got to my room the door was open and the stools were on top of the counter. Maybe housekeeping forgot to taken them down. There was what appeared to be paint/glitter/glue in the kitchen and bathroom areas and on the side of the nightstand. Apparently someone did arts and crafts in the room before me but no one bothered to try to scrape it off as part of the cleaning process. There was only one wash cloth in the room and my bed was neatly made with a sheet and the comforter cover, no comforter. I am generally cold and since the thermostat wouldn't go any higher than 75, I had to request a blanket so that I could keep warm at night. At most RIs there is a dish cloth and dish towel and some type of detergent. None of that was in the room. Lastly, most of the dishes were in the dishwasher. The first thing I pulled out was a knife and it had glue/glitter/paint stuck to it. I took that downstairs and got a replacement as I needed it at the time. I wasn't overly confident in the cleanliness of anything at that point . The couch didn't look the cleanest so I never sat on that. I wipe down my room with disinfectant wipes as soon as I get in there and that is the only reason I didn't request a different room because I'd done that before I found most of the issues. All in all it was probably my worst RI experience. The hotel reduced my rate and the front desk staff were friendly and professional but I will probably choose a different hotel on my next visit to Akron. read more

This residence in offers such a nice alternative to a traditional hotel. The rooms are huge & modern, similar to a nice one bedroom apt, huge bedroom & big bathroom. There is a nice workout room & laundry available as well. Patrick the night shift guy took great care of me, this was my second stay here for work. I have stayed at Marriott's for many years, this Residence Inn is not in keeping with the high standards I have come to expect from Marriott. While this hotel may look nice when it comes to customer service this hotel rates among the worst I have ever seen. If you need a hotel staff to do anything other than give you a key at check-in and take it back at checkout, this is not the hotel for you. Stay at the Cambria, it is newer and their customer service is exceptional. read more

We came here for an off-site meeting. This staff treated us like VIPs! This is a great place to stay or meet. The staff is fantastic!

Place was new, therefore as clean as it gets, and the staff very friendly. I got there early, and having read reviews of ALL the other hotels, noise being the big issue with them, I asked for a room that was quiet, and they put me in a room on the opposite side of the building from the Interstate, and asked me later if it was quiet enough, and yes it was. Rooms are Studios. Full kitchen, complete with cooking tools, dishwasher, stove, micowave-oven, etc. A living-room/2nd sleep area with plenty of outlets for computer, printer, etc.. Separate room for the bedroom. Nice bathroom. Housekeeping: towels, sweeping and trash cans are every day. Bedding is every other day. Internet: Free for normal cable speed. There is 3x faster available for an extra fee. I did not try out the basketball court or the indoor pool or the exercise room. Outside my window there was a patio with a outside gas-log fireplace and a grill. I think the fireplace lights automatically every evening, for it was burning in both good weather and bad. In good weather, business travelers would sit around the fire with their adult beverages and visit. Walking distance is a Bob Evans, McDonalds, and Taco Bell. Across the street there is a Target, down the street a few blocks was a Walmart. Nearby gas stations had some of the cheapest gas I found in that area during my week there. read more

I wish all hotels were just like this!!! I stayed at this hotel July 2017 and everything was excellent and so pretty and modern, the hotel felt new which I love! We had a suite with a kitchen and seperate bedroom which was great because there was 2 tv's. The bed was the best I've ever slept in and I would love to know what kind of mattress it was if anyone could tell me because I need one asap ;) I slept like a baby! The breakfast was very good as well with a large variety. Everyone was very nice. The only thing I can complain about (which is Marriotts issue itself not the people who work there), was the $100 non refundable pet "deposit". It should be called a fee because usually you get back a deposit if there was no problem, and if the hotel chain doesn't want pets, just say "no pets". I gave it 5 stars because it was the perfect hotel and if I hadn't called about bringing my pet, I would of never known about the deposit. But other than that, I cant wait to go back someday and I wish all hotels were just like this one, I can dream cant I? ;) read more

Okay, so the last place anyone wants to be on Christmas is a hotel, but this past holiday that is where I had to be. Traveled up to Ohio from VA on Christmas Eve, it was a 10 hour drive, and didn't get in until 3am Christmas morning. To make everything more stressful we had 2 german shepherds with us. Pulled into parking lot, I was cranky about the situation, I said to my bf, "hey try and get a room on the right end, bottom floor by the exit bc of the convenience for the dogs. He goes inside comes out 5 mins later and says "they upgraded us to that room". I was starting to feel better now at this point. Was able to pull right up to an exit of side of building and had first room on right inside entrance. When we walked into the room, we realized they upgraded us to a studio, with living space, kitchen, large bathroom, and separate bedroom. Wow. I mean wow, how nice of them. We passed out, few hours later, woke up to a card under door signed by the whole staff wishing us a Merry Christmas. Wow again. We got dressed, had no issues with the dogs and headed down to lobby for the complimentary breakfast. again Wow. everything was decorated with holiday flare, and the buffet was great waffles with strawberries, many muffins, breads, eggs, meats, biscuits, gravy, coffees, juices, fruits, and many more. The best breakfast I have ever had at a hotel. Through out the visit the staff was nice, the hotel gorgeous, very pet friendly, and the best part was this. We wanted to have some family members come meet us for breakfast next morning, so we asked front desk if that was ok. They looked at us and said "any guest of yours, is a guest of ours" wow, again. My bahumbug mood of having to stay in a hotel over Christmas quickly changed bc of this place. 5 stars is an understatement. I visit Ohio quite a bit, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else. read more

I normally don't leave reviews for a hotel, but after booking directly with Marriott for this stay as a Marriott member, we were severely disappointed by the treatment from the hotel manager, Patrick. When we had checked-in we had a requested a 1 p.m. checkout time, which we were told by front desk staff that it would be no problem. So, on the day of checkout we get a call from the manager at 12:10 p.m. to tell us that checkout is at 12 noon. When we told him that we were told that we could check out at 1 p.m., he responded that we were not silver, or "gold" members, hence should not be granted a 1 p.m. checkout. There were no apologies given for his hotel staff's mistake. Furthermore, with a family with small children, and when we have stayed with hotels (where we're not members of the chain etc), I've never had a hotel deny us a later checkout, nor called by a manager to tell me that I have to check out immediately. I've never had such treatment from any company, that is supposedly, supposed to reward their "members" with quality service. All in all, while our room was great, the rest of the staff cordial, we were so disappointed by the treatment from a hotel manager, who presumably should guarantee customer satisfaction. Never again will we be staying at Marriott properties, and I will cancel my membership with such a chain. read more

Great hotel. We stayed here for the holidays when visiting family in the area. Hotel staff was friendly. Hotel is very new and clean. I used the pool and checked out the gym. Hotel included breakfast which was good. Not fancy but filled up the kids who liked the waffles and eggs. It's near the highway so definitely convenient but highway was a little noisy. We arrived at Marriott Akron South/Green on Friday afternoon for a wedding. I called last Monday, June 4th to pay for my room in advance. The girl working said, No we do not allow that. So when we went to check in I told them I wanted to pay in cash. They said that's okay your total for your stay is $580. WHAT!!! My room was only $330 for the two night stay. They said that because we are paying cash that there is a $250 deposit. I understand that, however, it was poorly communicated to me. I did not see this policy in any of my emails, they said that it was there. My boyfriend asked if he could put the deposit on his card, they said no it all had to be paid in cash. I had to go to the bank and deposit my money and go back to the hotel. They ran my card and I received notification from my bank saying that a payment was processed. The ladies working at the hotel said, we can't find your payment. They finally let us into our room. We ended up being late to the wedding rehearsal! We got back to the hotel and went to bed, we received a phone call at 11:15pm asking for payment! I went down to the desk in the morning and had to talk to the night auditor. We had to call my bank to find out what was going on. They sorted it all out. The night Auditor was very friendly and helpful. BUT the rest of the staff was not. This company needs to have better communication among the staff and better training of the staff itself. I probably won't stay at a Marriott because of this issue. read more
