They didn't offer any compensation to me for not getting what I paid for. Hit and miss with the staff. I was a little disappointed with the experience this time because we absolutely loved our last visit and specifically chose this Courtyard because the staff was so friendly and helpful and the location is in such a fun spot, right next to a great restaurant, shops filled with local artists and it's right across from the container park. The night staff were pretty dismissive, one was actually kinda rude when I asked for water. Also, the WiFi was no good here. The rooms are nice and the location is great. Not a lot of counter space in the bathroom but those things are no big deal when you have great service. 50/50 on whether I'll stay at this location again. read more

I've stayed here twice. It looks like they rotate or update some of the decor or art that they have which I really like. Entrance: The downstairs area is nicely, appointed the booth where you can sit for meals have their own TVs and in the sitting area with the larger TV there are outlets on the arms of the couch so you can charge your computer or your phone or your tablet. Patio: the patio is large and has some standing tables a few fire pits with the little glass rocks inside. It's really nice and it's close to the street so you can see people walking back-and-forth to other shops in the area. I like the patio. Location: the location is really good. It's really close to the highway and there are plenty of food options as long as you don't wait until too late. There's a food hall next-door, but it closes on Sundays at three unfortunately and 7 on weekdays. The hours may vary by season though so check their website. Parking: very hit or miss there is free parking in front of the hotel in open lots, but there are lots of other attractions in the area and if it's a busy night, it might be hard to find parking. Since most people check into hotels on weekend evenings, it's often difficult to find parking. There is a little space for you to pull into check-in and unload your luggage, but it looks like it can only hold two cars so hopefully people don't abuse it. Rooms: the rooms are good. They have plenty of outlets and charging areas also different lighting options. The main problem I've had with the rooms is that the showers the grout isn't clean and I really don't like that in my experience. The rest of the bathroom has been generally clean. read more

I stayed here last year and had a great experience (see earlier review). I opted to stay here again while I was in the area and was less than impressed. I am not sure what happened but this visit was of a much lower caliber than before. The staff member who assisted me at check-in seemed to have a lackadaisical approach and made it seem like I was an inconvenience. I inquired if mobile check-in was working (checked -in on the app around 7:00 am) and was told "we just didn't get around to do those." I realize I am nit picking but it also just doesn't seem right to have front-desk staff in jeans and a sweatshirt. The hotel itself is located in a great location with plenty of parking and eating options close buy. The hotel common areas are spacious yet seemed a bit lacking in the cleanliness department. The room was also spacious and quiet. Room cleanliness left a bit to be desired. It was apparent the rooms was cleaned but it did seem like it might have been done in a rushed manner. The shower definitely needs some work, especially the surface mold on the wall near the ceiling. Quite a different experience compared to the last visit. Perhaps it is time to explore other Marriott options when in this area. read more

An exceptional experience for two nights here. It's in a unique area close to the train track and the river. There is a Luigi's Italian restaurant just adjacent as well as bar called the Speakeasy. There is also an apartment/condo building just next door and they all share a common patio so on the weekends there is FREE jazz music! There is no free coffee or breakfast here. Rather, the concession is run by Starbucks. Great staff there, especially Rhonda, she is just exceptional. Very professional and friendly. The food options are smiliar to what you might find at most other Starbucks but they do add a few more options like the breakfast burrito which was very good. We were on the 9th floor, the top which was very quiet. They only problem we had was the slamming doors in the hall way. They are so loud and they echo thru the halls. I hope they can do something about that as we hard similar complaints from other guests. Room was on the larger side, bed was comfy, great AC and the bathroom was VERY big. read more

Very much a middle of the row experience from start to finish. It was clear to me upon check-in why this hotel has a 3.5 rating on Yelp. For starters, the very first impression a guest gets is with the staff at check-in and like the other reviews mention, the customer service was subpar. Not only was it lengthy, but I was lectured on how the room was paid for (it was a work trip). Outta my hands, let's move on please. The room was nice, clean, and a great size. The WI-FI was free and worked just fine. I also liked that the room had a microwave. I stayed for two nights but opted to not have the room refreshed because they didn't stop by until late in the day (almost 4pm). The location of this hotel definitely balances things out here. Stayed for a few nights during the Christmas 2021 holiday and was very pleased with my overall experience. - Friendly staff - Room was very clean with a nice view of the nearby train station and trail - Bed and pillows were comfy - Shower stall was unique (roomy and modern; powerful shower head) - Lots of space in the room and ample seating - Mini fridge and coffee maker included - Desk space There were a few things I wasn't a fan of: only one entrance/exit and it's in the front of the building. Parking nearby is limited; didn't bother me too much because I don't mind the walk but for some that might be an issue. Also, the first night I was so cold! Temps were right about freezing level (30 degrees or so) and the heat didn't kick on. The front desk staff mentioned it's a "smart" motion sensor system and since I wasn't in the room much the first day that could have been the issue. They did offer a room change if it didn't improve but I was so tired at that point and just dealt with it. The other nights I stayed were more comfortable but that first night was miserable. I wish they had more blankets also. Finally, the mini fridge is an odd shape and while I like that it neatly fits in a built in cabinet, it's hard to fit stuff medium to larger items inside. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay and aside from that first night, I was so comfortable. It was quiet and clean. I felt safe. I liked the urban vibe and appreciate the surrounding areas being revitalized. Being from the area, this is wonderful to see. The price was slightly steep but I think it was worth it. The hotel is really nice. I don't get all the negative reviews and I would stay here again. In closing, on 12/24 and 12/25 the staff left a letter notifying guests that there would be limited staffing due to the holiday. This was really appreciated and I like that they take care of their staff and let them leave early to spend time with loved ones. I recommend this hotel. The lobby has a coffee/breakfast food counter with seating area that is charged to your room. Artwork is on the walls. Northside Marketplace is next door, and the iconic Luigi's Pizza was down the street. There's lots of parking. It's handicapped accessible. The space is rather small, there were about 20 people there when I visited and it felt full. The drinks were great. It closed at 11:30pm on a Friday night though which is a bummer. The announcement for last call involved setting a fire on the bar (a la a hibachi restaurant) which was awesome!! This location was a little uncomfortable feeling at first but after a bit I didn't mind so much. When I got to the room, I was impressed with the set up. I had a desk, couch, fridge, microwave, etc. I came here on business so was working most of the time and didn't stay in my room very much. The room temperature control was a bit difficult. It was freezing in there and I could not knock the chill off that first night. It was set to 72 deg but the furnace was blowing cool air. I turned it up to 78 and it finally got comfortable enough to sleep. I am certain it didn't get to that temperature but I wouldn't have been able to breathe. I typically sleep in a 70 deg room. The shower was weird. There was not a door. Just V a piece of glass that went halfway through the shower. It splattered everywhere. The shower and bathroom floor was slippery as though it had corner on it. I had to be super careful not to slip. The complementary lotion was nearly empty when I got there. The fridge was super small. Could barely hold to go container. I had put in a request before arrival for non feather pillows and they weren't there. So I had to call for them which kept me up another 20 minutes out so. They tell you about their little bistro for moving breakfast and coffee but when I t tired to order coffee the guy tells me he can't do specialty coffees that day (note, I was ordering off their menu) I have to give them props for one thing. I left my watch in the room and checked out and they held it for me until I could come back later that evening. read more

Let me start off by saying this a new hotel with nice rooms, a simple lobby, free parking across the street and paid parking in the garage below. One of the best things about this hotel is it's proximity to the heart of downtown and fun neighbors like Northside Marketplace, DBA, Luigi's and so on (tasty and easy to find eats). I'll also add that I'm a sucker for free newspapers in the hotel lobby...don't mind if I do. However, the customer service/hospitality factor at this location could use some work. The women who greeted me upon arrival on 11/14 late in the evening were so chatty that they didn't acknowledge I was waiting at the counter to be checked in and standing there a while and being the only person in the lobby. The experience was really sloppy and rough around the edges. For example, she informed me that breakfast is in the lobby but it's not complimentary- in a very unsmooth manner along with a lot of other unwelcoming lines. I can't help but admit that I was also distracted by her very long fingernails and how they seemed to make it difficult for her to use the computer and check me in. Overall, not Marriott's brightest moment in hospitality training but with some extra training it could be a good experience. read more

I've stayed here for business and pleasure several times each. Other than the parking situation which always strikes me as dicey, this is always a great place to stay. I've stayed for business and many of Akron's must-see restaurants are within a very short walk right outside so you can meet for dinner or drinks very easily. The speakeasy in the lobby is an exceptional cocktail bar with the only downside that it is really (too) small. The rooms remain modern even though this was the first place I recall seeing Netflix TVs all those years ago. But the real place where this shines is every year when I ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The Polar Express/North Pole Express pulls up at Akron Northside right outside so kids can see and hear the train coming and then walk across the street to board. read more

It's so refreshing to find a hotel of this caliber in the downtown area of Akron, it's actually the best hotel I know of in Akron. I love the location which is less than one mile from the heart of the city and will be very convenient once they get the road construction completed around the city. There are a few restaurant choices within a stones throw of the front entrance one upper end modern restaurant D.B.A. and across the street is the infamous Luigi's Italian restaurant (cash only). I love that they have a Starbucks in the lobby that opens at 6:30 AM and you can also grab breakfast from the same counter, the breakfast sandwiches are delicious or you can choose from the normal Starbucks offerings. I found the entire hotel to be well maintained and very clean unlike one of the previous reviewers (maybe that review corrected the matter). The rooms are set up for the business traveler complete with refrigerator and microwave. There were plenty of receptacles throughout the room and a very large walk-in shower. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. If there were any negatives for me it was the parking there is a public parking out front which seemed to always be filled and a remote parking lot offsite which I thought was odd there are a few spaces around the back but not so convenient either. We checked in on Friday night for a Saturday wedding. There were at least 3 other weddings that weekend so it seemed, as the lobby was full but only one person was at the front desk the entire weekend. By Saturday morning only 1 of the 2 elevators for the entire hotel worked. It then turned into the waiting game and even housekeeping had to wait for the elevator. The cleanliness of the rooms was also poor as you can see from the pictures. All of the bedding was dirty prior to. The positive if the hotel was that it was a good quiet environment even with all the families and the housekeeping staff was nice. read more

This marvelous facility opened in March of 2016 and it is GORGEOUS! Check-in was fast and painless. The rooms are spaceous and the pool and gym are much better than expected. The location is right downtown and is built to accommodate conventions and business meetings. They can easily handle volume. The hotel employees were ineffectual, nobody observed the posted signs, and now we won't EVER return to this hotel. (Luigis is still great, btw--safe and sensible and delicious.). I hope the super spreaders dont take any innocent people with them. We've had friends die from this virus. Bride and groom: choose friends who won't infect your loved ones. This was one of our best Marriott experiences. The front desk staff was so positive and helpful. Deja and DeKeisha were so friendly, patient, and helpful. They got us an early check-in after other members of the wedding party were unable to ahead of time. They also rebooked our rooms with credits we had forgotten to use. The cleaning team members were also so kind and pleasant. They worked tirelessly to make sure all spaces were pristine and were mindful of guests. We are so thankful! read more

It was our second time staying here and we were pleasantly surprised that the service has improved quite a bit since our first visit when the hotel just opened. CLEANLINESS: 5/5 the housekeeping service is wonderful. Detailed work and it shows. Great job keeping this hotel looking brand-new. The only thing I would comment on is to iron the sheets inside the bed - the wrinkles make me wonder if the sheets were actually changed from the previous stay. Despite that, I'm very, very picky about cleanliness and their work hit the mark! FRONT DESK: 4/5 huge improvement from last year when we were greeted by an apathetic teenager who handled things with boredom and nervous energy. This year the staff always acknowledged us whenever we returned to the hotel and everyone was working hard and moving fast. The only criticism was that Samantha (I think?) sighed and complained over the phone in front of me: "WHY would they mark those rooms as cleaned when they're NOT??" Perhaps save the whining and frowning until after you've finished checking us in. Not a good first impression on guests upon check-in. Everyone else was fantastic and upbeat. LOCATION: 5/5 just amazing. Next door is a high-end restaurant DBA with an inventive menu. A few doors down is the famous (and legit delicious) Luigi's, and the hotel itself offers a very cool Speakeasy that you can opt to enter through a phone booth from inside the hotel. Neat! AMENITIES: 5/5 we weren't able to use the gym/pool/theater but wow! Definitely great amenities to offer guests. For business travelers, they offer a huge pretty lobby to meet with people and/or socialize, and it's a great gathering spot decorated to the nines. An additional business center is on the lobby floor with computers and even a printer for guest use. A full dining menu at the bistro offering hot food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and every meal you could want is available for purchase. Excellent job- keep it up! read more

Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Akron is a newer addition (2016) to the downtown area. The hotel is located in the trendy (albeit tiny) Northside area, and nice restaurants are within walking distance. Check-in is a little chaotic due to lack of easy parking and valet. There's also no bellhop, like you'd expect in other upscale hotels located in a city center. The check-in staff was appropriately friendly, again not to the level of an upscale hotel. It reminds one that this is, after all, a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The check-in staff seemed rather apathetic to the lack of parking, and only after further questioning was I told there is underground garage parking for the hotel for $20 per night. If you are going to be coming and going, you really should do that because free surface parking is difficult to impossible when the dinner crowd arrives. The hotel has a clean, modern-industrial aesthetic with plenty of stainless steel, exposed brick, sliding barn door dividers, and muted natural color palettes. I got a king loft, and it's impressive with a separate living and sleeping area. There are 1.5 baths in the room but it's awkwardly arranged where the half bath is literally next to the full bath. Meanwhile there's a giant walk-in closet by the front door that ends up being wasted space. It would have been nice to put the half bath there. Also, the floors are all tile. Which is nice and sleek to look at, but there is one big problem : transmitted noise from upstairs guests. Last night the room above me was having a party and I heard every footstep for hours. Finally, there's a broken window pane in my room and the wall sconces don't work. Not the level of quality I was expecting. Overall if you are staying in downtown Akron, then this is really your only choice. Otherwise head to Hilton West in Fairlawn or Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls, and you'll have equally as nice of a stay with much nicer surroundings. read more

The room was clean and just big enough for the two of us. But the cold walk from the parking lot prevents me from giving this hotel a 5-star review. There's no hotel garage. So you have to park in the lot and walk. That may not be an issue in June, July or August, but it was pretty darn cold in February. And while the parking lot is marked for Hotel Patrons only, no one monitors it. I saw several people park in the prime spots and go over to the bar across the street. Lastly, I don't know if there would have been enough room to open the pull-out couch had we needed it. read more

Another friend of mine came up to the room and she told my friends parents that we were being loud and playing on the phone,when we weren't.She had to leave and then front desk lady threatened with security. We called about the Bible's in the drawers,that were offensive to my friends religion and she got a very rude tone and told we didn't have to read them and to put them back in the drawer. Horrible experience on NYE. I booked a rewards stay as a gold member and checked in the day prior via the Marriott app to "access my elite benefits"... what I received when I arrived was a room on the bottom floor (not the lobby which is floor 3) directly next to the stairs (room 123 - avoid at all costs). From my experience, low level floors and those next to the stairs are the worst rooms in a hotel. So not only was I not recognized and/or thanked for staying 62 nights this past year in Marriott hotels but I also received the worst room possible. It was horribly loud, terrible view, and drafty. Unfortunately the experience wasn't much better beyond the room. Perhaps it was the holiday but the staff was not friendly (rude actually), unorganized and poorly trained. Also, the hotel was designed to have a valet, parking is below or non existent, but they have gotten rid of the service. All of the attractions around the hotel were booked for private events, which I understand is beyond the control of the hotel, but the theater is not and it was booked as well. Marriott has been on the decline for me over the past few months but due particularly to this instance I think it's time to go back to HHonors and ditch Marriott all together. When you spend more than 2 months out of the year in hotels you know the difference between a good experience and a bad one... this was horrible. read more

Hotel: 5 stars. Customer Service: 1 star The hotel was built less than 2 years ago, so it looks great, it's clean, and it's modern. There are smart TVs in each room and it's located in a great area surrounded by a park and some restaurants. Everything was great until we included one decently important factor: the air conditioning. Per usual, the first thing we do it turn the A/C on cold and full blast. Unfortunately, the first night we slept there, it ended up being 77 degrees when we woke up (drenched in sweat). We didn't really sleep at all and we were super crabby. We went down to the front desk to complain. They sent a maintenance man up to fix it. It was still not fix. They sent another man up to fix it. We left for a wedding, came back, and it was still 77 degrees in the room. The front desk finally agreed to move us to another room, but it took them 30 minutes to find an opening and it was going to take them another 30 minutes to make sure the room was ready for us. It was 1:30am by that time, we were tired and said screw it. We toughed it out another night sleeping in hell. When we checked out, the manager asked us "how was your stay?". We were pretty honest. Told them we didn't get any sleep and that the A/C still wasn't fixed. Her response? "I'm sorry to hear that...here's your receipt". There was no emotion to her response at all. It's not like I was expecting a free night or anything, but dang, they could have at least acknowledged our frustration and maybe have shown some sympathy. I would have been fine with a free candy bar by that time. This was definitely not a great experience, and not worth the amount of money we paid--I would have probably been more comfortable sleeping in my car. PS: It was also pretty loud in the hallways and rooms surrounding us. Any toilet that flushed, any nose that was blown, any screaming child---you could pretty much hear it all. read more

Kudos to housekeeping, because we require feather-free and only get it one or two times a year (out of 200+ hotel stays.) Boo to Marriott for providing wretched in-room coffee, and NO free coffee or creamers in the lobby at any time. I felt bad for the hotel staff, who had to keep telling people "There's coffee in the rooms or you can get it at the Bistro", a Starbucks-style combo coffee/espresso machine/old pastries/liquor bar area - but I would have felt better if they'd apologized, because all the Marriott Courtyards once had free lobby coffee. No free breakfast, either. Not even a roll. And there was no breakfast in the room. I really did expect better of Marriott. The front check in people could use a lesson in smiling. When the cleaning staff are friendlier than the people taking your money, it's an issue. One more kudo, to one of the the "barristas". We'd driven almost ten hours and were exhausted, it was late, and after seeing my disappointment that there was no free decent decaf to be had without a stiff fee, informed us that they were going to have to throw away the coffee because it was closing time, why didn't we each have a cup on him. The most unprofessional hotel we've ever stayed at!! At 330am 2 ladies in the adjoining room were speaking loudly all night. We finally decided to call the front desk and Leah who answered was very short with me and said she's call them and hung up abruptly. 10 minutes later, still loud, my husband knocked on the adjoining door and asked them to quiet down. One girl apologized while the other began cursing. At 350am we get a call from the front desk with no hello just "why did you kick their door?". I tried to explain to Leah that's not what happened but she was so belligerent and had a major attitude, she wouldn't let me talk. My husband took the phone and told her he knocked on their door. But Leah would not stop screaming and told us we have to leave and she was coming up to have us removed. We called corporate at 4am to file a complaint and was told we did not have to leave. This was the worst experience we've ever had and have been traveling for over 30 years. Stayed here for a wedding nearby at Quaker station. The hotel was fully booked but check in was quick. I was able to check in early. The hotel was very busy. Cleaning service was top notch for my room 424. Room was very spacious and had a great view of the train station. The hotel was able to accumulate all my needs like early check, extra towels, and pillows. The cons would be parking, small size of the pool, and wish they would provide complimentary breakfast. This hotel help boost the surrounding areas because they area of akron used to be run down. I would stay here again. read more
