Master Suite with four poster bed

Beautiful house! Gracious host! Extravagant breakfast! Amazingly inexpensive! I'm all about this B&B. We booked the Master Suite because it was the only room left two days before we decided to head up to Akron. The room was absolutely beautiful with a very spacious living room, a dressing room, a massive bedroom with a large garden view and one of the coolest art deco bathrooms I've ever had the pleasure to see with smoked jade walls and vaulted ceilings! The room was comfortable and the mattress was firm. Our host, Gayle, showed us around the house. We have a deep interest in historic preservation and her insights from owning the home for 30 years were wonderful to hear. Breakfast was gourmet and I could have kept eating to the point of my own detriment. I was extremely happy with our stay here and would definitely book again!

As a die-hard Marriott fan, my Dad stumbled upon this gem and continues to return. Last weekend, he rented a family suite for a belated Easter and it took my breath away! The charm and character of an early 20th century mansion is only surpassed by its owner - the sweetest and most AMAZING host and cook. A hidden gem in Akron that makes you feel AT HOME away from home. So long, Marriott... Be sure to book way in advance! PS If you're into the B&B Book Swap, like me - you're also in luck!

WOW, Wow, Wow! I could not have pick a more perfect place to have our wedding! Everything about The O'Neil House is just fabulous! The house is spectacular; rich in 1920's charm, with the beautiful leaded glass windows, beautiful dark wood and I could go on and on about the bedrooms with their amazing marble bathrooms! This house truly takes you back in time making you feel so welcoming and cozy. Gayle the inkeeper/owner was just the sweetest and so accommodating! My guest raved about her and her willingness to give a true tour of the house and it's history! It was a perfect added touch to our day! Now, let's talk about the food! I don't think I've had better food at a wedding. It was outstanding. Raphael Vaccaro from Vaccaros Trattoria his event coordinator Katrina plus their staff truly out did themselves. My guest were never without a drink and the setup for the food was spot on. Lastly, I can't say enough about the breakfast the next morning. Gayle so out did herself. With fresh ground coffee, amazing ham and mozzarella cheese omelette and fresh fruit. You know you picked the perfect venue and cater when your guest are still talking about it months later. I can't wait to return!

We were the only guests this past weekend. It is on a nice, quiet residential street and we parked on the street in front. Louie was very hospitable and friendly, explaining everything we needed to know about staying in his house. There are also a lot of informational notices about the house rules around, such as what is included in breakfast and tips. The house is very cozy and clean; our bed was comfortable. The bathroom very clean as well. There is also a half-bath on the main floor. He has some high-end perks, including a Dyson fan in our bedroom that I appreciated as I normally sleep with a fan on. The lamp has charging outlets. Breakfast is DIY, offering hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juice, bread for toast, granola, oatmeal, bananas, and granola bar-type snacks. The coffee station has a fancy coffee maker with several coffee packet selections for an extra fee of $2 and up. He has Chobani creamer in the fridge (yum). There are also cold drinks in a glass-front cooler for extra charges, and you can use Venmo or cash. I bought a bottle of Norka root beer (Akron spelled backwards) to take home. We did not use the hot tub in the backyard, but there is an extra charge to use. It is large enough for multiple people. He has a seating area on the back patio as well. Louie does an excellent job of making guests feel at home.

We have a 7 lb dog which travels with us at all times. We asked Jim whether he allowed pets several months ago - he said he normally does not accept pets, however, he gave us permission for our 7 lb dog. On the 2nd night we were there while having dinner with family, he and his wife showed up, knocked on our door to tell us there were no dogs allowed. He had conveniently forgot that he gave us that exception. Clearly his wife had not been told as she would not not even look at me as she walked by. He asked us to kennel the dog! After reviewing our previous conversation in depth and reminding him that he made the exception, my first instinct was to leave that night and pay him for the two days - but I didn't. I offered to pay a pet deposit in good faith - he declined. We asked him numerous times that evening and the next morning for an invoice that he never produced nor did he ever commit to a rate. At his request we left the heat at 64 degrees the entire weekend in an attempt to keep his cost down. It seemed the price would 'hinge' upon utilities. We finally had to corner him for a price. He offered 400.00 for 6 nights-a good deal we thought. Funny enough, upon exploring the home we did see what appeared to be raccoon feces on the steps to the 3rd floor. My 7 lb dog would have a heck of a time 'pooping' on the side of a step. We forgot to say something but sure should have because when we arrived home he left a message on our home phone and had the balls to blame our dog for crapping on his 3rd floor, when she was never up on the 3rd floor. In the end we wrote a check for $425 for 6 nights, an extra 25.00 to cover his crappy coffee pot that broke the first time we used it just out of courtesy because we also replaced that coffee pot as well. On our final day he rushed us out because he said he had another guest coming. To help, we vacuumed floors, wiped down bathrooms, and cleaned the kitchen (which had old food in it when we arrived). He actually asked us before 10 am for the linens so he could started washing them. Not a problem frankly, but to be accused of not taking care of his property is completely ridiculous. Don't rent from this guy as he's really unprofessional.
