As someone who travels frequently for work and is loyal to Marriott, I always appreciate earning Bonvoy points. I chose this Residence Inn because it was close to my client in Raleigh and, most importantly during a North Carolina summer, it has an outdoor pool. This is an older property, but it's clean, quiet, and laid out more like an apartment community than a traditional hotel. If you're staying for several days or longer, the full kitchenette with a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, and separate living area is a huge plus. I also appreciated the spacious work desk, reliable A/C, and comfortable bed after long workdays. The complimentary breakfast was one of the better hotel breakfasts I've had recently. The eggs were surprisingly good, the coffee hit the spot, and there were plenty of options to start the day. The outdoor courtyard and grilling area are beautiful, and the pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs, making it a relaxing place to unwind. A few things kept this from being a five-star stay. The property is showing its age, with worn bathroom tile and dated finishes. Water pressure in the shower was weaker than I'd like, and there wasn't a convenient shelf or soap dish. The layout also means a fair amount of walking from the parking lot to some rooms, with only one elevator serving the building. After one of the area's heavy summer thunderstorms, the entrance near my building flooded badly enough that getting inside without soaking my shoes was difficult. Hopefully that's something management can address. Check-in was friendly, although after a full day of work I would have appreciated a quicker, more efficient arrival. On the other hand, I loved being able to message the front desk through the Marriott app. When I asked about pool towels, they brought a fresh stack out almost immediately. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It's in a nice, quiet part of Chapel Hill, offers good value, and is a solid option if you need extra space or plan to stay for several nights. While I'd probably choose a newer property next time, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I needed to be in the area. read more

Stayed over the weekend and we were pleased with our stay. We checked in pretty late Friday night and the front desk was able to accommodate our request of being on the 3rd floor. Breakfast was good and there were plenty of options. Public areas were clean and neat. There is an outdoor pool and a lot of outdoor seating space with grills and a fire pit. Good: Location (close to Chapel Hill & Durham; very easy access to main travel arteries, though nothing you could safely walk to) Room layout Cleanliness Front desk staff Well-equipped kitchens Fair: Breakfast (standard fare) Linens/maintenance (frayed carpet and towels) Pool (small and plain, but it's there) This is not where you would stay on vacation, but if you have business in the area or need to put family up for a while, etc., it's an OK choice. The rooms are fine for a stay of a few days and the full kitchens will definitely meet any needs you have in that area. The bathroom vanity has plenty of space, but the shower has one of those tiny wire racks where everything falls because the spaces are too wide to hold the toiletries. When I was walking down the halls, it seemed like there was a lot of noise coming out of the rooms. I lucked out and got a room at the end of the hall, so my bedroom didn't share a wall with another room, so you might inquire about getting one of those. read more

My hotel of choice whenever I'm in town. They have all the amenities I need. The lobby bar is the real treat. It's always a good time there. I'll usually get a beer and shot to take with me after last call and just enjoy the vibes at the fire pit. The rooms in good condition, albeit slightly dated, but it gets the job done. Never have early check in ready, never have bottles of water at check in, always fail to insure no feather pillows for the wife. Front desk staff is adequate but never welcoming. All in all, ehhh! Wow, what a refreshing experience in a great hotel! The lush and thoughtful landscaping was the perfect spot to rest and restore after an eight week run of caregiving for my folks nonstop. I love the fabulous touches within the room, including the under-cabinet lighting and softer tone color of some of the lightbulbs (versus bright white!) The electrical engineering of the light switches in the room with the main switch that s huts all lights off at once when you're leaving is genius! Customer service is second to none from my check-in with Jarry to the cleaning and maintenance pros. The outdoor spaces have beautiful views, comfortable seating and strong wifi signal. The pool is clean and in a nice open spot so when the sun is out it's a perfect place to soak up some rays. They even have a little putting green! I have stayed at this Residence Inn many times - It has great front desk staff and the GM was helpful during my last stay (Oct 5 -10 2022) However, the building is not looking good. Walls (esp in public areas) have damage, wallpaper warped and stained. The entire hotel needs to be thoroughly cleaned. There are dusty displays, and floors that need vacuuming. The whole place needs to be cleaned, updated, and freshened. The suite my daughter and I were in had: --a silverware drawer that can't be opened due to being blocked by stove -- damage to fridge front --scratched furniture --rug in bedroom where separated from other flooring has metal strip that is loose or damaged and can cut feet when stepping in the wrong place --tub has uneven bottom so all the water doesn't drain and there is a depression that holds water --bed in one room old, hard, and uncomfortable. While the GM gave me a reduced rate for one night which was appreciated, I ended up spending $100 for a mattress topper. I put the comforter, the mattress topper, another mattress topper -- that after 2 nights the hotel supplied -- on the mattress just so I could sleep. It still was uncomfortable. The mattress needs to be replaced. -- furniture is dinged, old, needs cleaning and/or replacement. Sorry Marriott... I will look for a newer cleaner more comfortable hotel for next trip. read more

During Civid- We stayed in a kitchenette. Two queen beds and we used the pull out mattress sofa. Beds were nice, pillows were soft and the place was clean, of course, while in Covid, we wiped everything down. As for amenities, I actually saw someone using the bbq in the courtyard, the pool is open 10-8, there is a pool table in the Lobby and the front desk was staff was busy but nice. As for breakfast, the menu is small but they make it for you when you fill out a form with a pick up time and leave it at the front desk the night before. I was happy with our stay and very satisfied with the environment. This is a 4.25-4.5 stars hotel. read more

We booked a one-bedroom suite. The layout was open and there was a large common space. Everything was well-kept and clean. The breakfast was very good complete with biscuits & gravy, as well as fresh cantaloupe. The walls are paper-thin, though. I could hear clear conversations on the living room side, while in the bedroom, you could hear muted voices speaking. From the common area, you can hear people walking up and down the halls, talking, and opening/closing doors all night. I'd stay here again, but definitely bring ear plugs or a white noise machine/app. read more

This was a nice residence in. Different from others I've stayed at as there's several different buildings and a main lobby building. The service at the front desk was good when I checked in. The room was nice and had a balcony attached but I didn't like that it was connected to the neighbors balcony and it didn't have any chairs or other places to sit! Also it took a while for the AC in the room to kick in. I set it at 71 and it read 74 but didn't turn on until I dialed it down to 79. The wifi signal sucked which is my main complaint as i do a lot of work in the hotel room but it was otherwise ok. I did like that it is off the main road and a bit quieter than most hotels. read more

I spent a few days at this Residence Inn earlier this week on a trip to NC and overall it was a good visit. My room was attractively furnished and lit. A stainless steel microwave and full-size refrigerator, as well as a dishwasher, were included in the kitchenette area. The bed was very comfortable, there was a 42" LG flat screen TV that had an excellent picture, and the climate control worked very well in my experience. The grounds were nice and the pool (no lifeguard on duty) looked very inviting. I also had sampled the room service for dinner on one of the evenings that I was there. While the food is served in cardboard boxes without plates, glasses, or silverware (for obvious reasons), it was very good. On the downside, most lodgings in this price range will be lacking in soundproofing and this place was no exception. While I wasn't surrounded by rowdies by any means, I could still hear just about everything that was going on in the hallway outside and in the adjoining units -- it got pretty annoying at times. Fortunately, the climate control had an option that allowed for the fan to be going all the time, which really helped to mask the noise. Also, the "Business Center" at this location was in my experience next to useless. It's a old PC placed on a three-foot high desk by the front desk (no chair, so you have to bend way down to use it). The internet was very slow and for some reason did not allow me to access a link to confirm next day's flight online.... it just sat there and was utterly unresponsive to my making maybe a dozen clicks. Worse, the machine starting spitting out a loud alarm because I'd apparently stumbled on one of those viruses that try to scam you by flashing a screen indicating that your computer has been infected and that you need to call a given phone number to have the problem resolved. At that point, I gave up on the "Business Center". Overall, this is a pretty nice place in a convenient location. It's not perfect, but I'd stay there again if I were ever visiting the area. read more

I've got to say they went over and beyond making sure my stay was "5 stars". As soon as I checked in that was able to get all of the package that I had shipped. They also gave me recommendation for a few vegan restaurants in walking distance since I didn't have a car. What topped it all off was they were will place thing back in to my room as I was running around which ended up saving me hours in my day. The best part was that I never had to ask period they always recommend great situation that pertain to whatever I was doing in the moment. I was in town for a family event. I checked in on Friday 10/13/17. On the 14th my room never got serviced. I was out of the room from 900 to 3pm. I returned to my room to get ready for the event. I was out of the room by 415. I didn't return again until almost 11 at night. Room never got cleaned. Next morning at check out I alerted the staff all they said was they would let head of housekeeping know. On the upside bed was comfortable and breakfast was good. However, for the price paid per night the room not getting cleaned is not acceptable. read more

I've had my share of stays with various Residence Inns, but this location takes it up a notch for many reasons: Pros: - Putting green in the courtyard. Haha, I don't know any other Residence Inn that does this. - Pool table and TV den room in the main lobby. Truly makes this place feel like a home or clubhouse - Flavored water and coffee/tea available at all hours. I know the coffee/tea is usually a standard but I was impressed with the flavored self-serve water. Watermelon one day, cantaloupe another, and then strawberries. This felt fancy - Large, clean rooms in decent condition. Comfortable sheets and towels, excellent shower water pressure. - Standard free Marriott breakfast fare, but they do a better job of doing small individual carafes of waffle batter for the waffle machine. - Nice, friendly staff. Cons: - I was a little sensitive to a few allergens in the room particularly with the furniture. In fact, one of the chairs in the living room looked like it had seen better days or that it might have been scratched up by any animal. I know these hotels are usually pet-friendly, but it might have irritated my skin that I had to place a sheet on the sofa so I wouldn't rash up on my legs. -Walls were a little thin, but I've experienced worse. I could hear my neighbor's TV going into the hours of the night. Overall, I would come back to stay at this location. On another note, this hotel seems tucked away in a lot of neighborhoods. I was a little surprised because I thought it would be closer to major intersection or more shopping centers. However, this has that true "residential" feel with how quiet it is outside and all the trees in the surrounding area. I look forward to staying here again. read more

This Residence Inn is conveniently located - although a little hard to find - for those who want to stay in the Chapel Hill area. On the plus side, the staff without exception is quite friendly, including the housekeeping staff who all appear to speak English, which is not always the case. The grounds are better kept/manicured than any hotel I can remember ever staying at - very nice. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a decent size. However, the living room and kitchen area are small. We found ourselves feeling claustrophobic and avoiding those areas, which is a shame. They have, I think, four rooms for handicapped individuals. For some reason, these rooms are located as far from the lobby as you can possibly get. This makes no sense in terms of accommodating individuals who have impaired mobility. One of the biggest disappointments we experience was with their breakfast buffet. The food is fair, at best. Getting breakfast is hampered by the fact that the wall separating the buffet from the dining room is close to the buffet which makes it awkward for people to pass each other in line to get what the food they want. It seems like everybody wants to make a waffle, but there's only one waffle making machine which slows the process down. read more

A fan of Marriotts, this was my first time at a Residence Inn property, and I really enjoyed it. The hotel is on some sort of outskirts of Chapel Hill (and I use outskirts from a Los Angeles prospective). But they're nice outskirts, kind of like out in the country, and not at all far from the center of town. I thought the area was great. It's wooded and seemingly remote, so if that's up your alley, this place is for you. There's the local bus, which is free, but it has limited running times. However, it goes straight down Franklin to the school and the center of things, so that's definitely a plus. There's a walking trail near by that's serene and beautiful. It's paved, and not too long and not too short. Across the road from the trail's entrance is a shopping center with a well-stocked Trader Joe's , Starbucks, and a Rite-Aid - so all your self-catering needs are in one spot. The staff is helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. The suite-like rooms are nice and the beds were comfortable. The little kitchenette has all the cutlery and knives, etc., plus a tiny dish washer. We didn't try the breakfast, but when I went to use the internet, the people eating seemed to be stuffing their faces happily. AND we had a great rate, so that was an added bonus to our stay. First, I wouldn't stay anywhere else next time I'm in Chapel Hill. This place fits the bill perfectly. Next, the comfort level is on par with what I've come to expect from my stays at other Marriotts. The experience I had at Chapel Hill solidifies my loyalty to the Marriott brand. read more

As a business traveler, our team (6 people) stayed here each week from May 2015 thru October 2015 - checking in on Monday and departing on Thursday. We experienced many of the positives that are noted in the other reviews. And while I have stayed at other Marriott Residence Inn's before, but this was easily the best one. The hospitality that the staff extended to us each and every week definitely made the my weekly time away from home much more enjoyable. The lobby / eating area is rather large and open, and a big "thumbs up" for the breakfast. Also, the food provided at the Monday - Wednesday evening socials could easily suffice for dinner, and they continuously varied the menu and presentation. From a business traveler's perspective, they helped lighten our suitcase by storing suits / clothes and other items for us (no charge). read more

The Residence Inn Chapel Hill gets a solid 4 star rating. We had a group of 10 stay for a week long training and we all enjoyed our stay. The rooms are laid out very nicely - nice desk area, living area, kitchenette. The beds are very comfortable, the decor is updated and rooms are really clean. They have a decent breakfast buffet and a nightly manager's reception (our group took advantage of this). There's also a nice seating area with a fire pit and pool table & dart board in the bar area with TV's to watch sports. We used the meeting rooms for a couple days and those were great as well. If I had to come back to the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Residence Inn Chapel Hill. read more

Pretty negative experience. 1) Toilet was clogged upon arrival and had to plunge it myself since there was no maintenance people on site. 2) Mattress smelled like urine and did not have protective covers. 3) flying/biting bugs in room that bit our legs, but killer them myself. 4) Half dollar sized spider on sofa bed. 5) Microwave light was burned out. 6) Sausage at breakfast looked like a meat never seen before. read more

Unfortunately this property is not up to Marriott standards. My main issue is the internet service. Please understand that this complaint is because I was attempting to work, not surf the web or watch Netflix (although We did watch some Netflix when the internet was working ). We stayed at this property for 10 days and the internet was constantly in and out. It would show that you are connected to the router, but no internet. I called the front desk and they told me to "try cnn.com". I understand the trick to get the IP address to redirect, but that was not the problem. I told the hotel staff that the routers were the problem and he asked me if I wanted the number to call the IT company....... Ok, so you see what the problem is right? They want me to do their job..... Anyway, beyond the customer service issue the walls are paper thin. You hear everyone next to you and absolutely everyone above you. This becomes an even bigger problem if you are traveling with pets as we were. I do my best to keep our dogs quiet respecting our hotel neighbors, but this task becomes nearly impossible when the dogs can hear the neighbors fart (metaphorically of course). I expect better from Marriott in both service and quality. I don't feel we received either at this location. read more

I really wanted to like this RI as it's close to the best school in the country :) . We were here for UNC orientation, and checked in around four in the afternoon. Check-in was easy and courteous, and we were given a room on the third floor. The room was pretty nice--not the best RI (check out Residence Inn Midland, MI if you want to be blown away by a room), but definitely above average. It had a flat screen mounted, a decent-sized kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The wifi was free but painfully slow. Where it really fell apart for me, though, was in what a hotel is supposed to do well. The sleep quality. I slept on the pull out sofa. I have slept on a ton of pull out sofas and have never had a problem with one until this one. Once you laid down, it was a bunch of springs going into your side. It was painful and nearly impossible to sleep. To top it off, the blankets that we ordered were cold and wet. You can imagine how that sleep went for me--I was not a happy camper. I left for orientation, but when my dad (Platinum Elite member) tried to complain, the staff was indifferent. Really? Disappointing. I'm sure I'll stay here again so we'll see if next time is any better. read more

Really nice breakfast buffet. Plus a really great location if you take time to study the connected backroads that are NOT 15/510 and I-40. Recently updated and of midline vintage dating to the 90s, this outpost trades heavily on relo biz in Durham and CH -- the parking lot is a Disney World of out-of-state tags. And with good reason. The suites have functional, well-equipped kitchens, and layouts that give you some chance of splitting biz from private. For example, our suite had a layout that completely cut off the "public" area from the sleeping suite. If you are trying to burn a week or two with kids in tow before a closing -- a really welcome feature. Plus, as I said, the breakfast buffet is one of the better I've had on such mid-line properties -- actual real eggs and several different preps each day. Different meats each day -- including pre-made knockoff Egg McMuffins that were really good. Just aces in that regard. Only real knock is that the value was only good, not great. Points help, but demand evidently being what it is, you could easily spend less somewhere else. I don't suggest that, however. Especially if you are in a middle of stressful move. read more

I really hope I never have to stay here again. The front desk attendants aren't the most hospitable people I have encountered. Once you check in, the front desk personnel gets a plastic map of the hotel layout to direct you around the property for parking. I was a little sad that the Marriott brand is being reduced to plastic maps likened to waffle house menus. I would expect an ipad or color pamphlet displaying the hotel's layout in addition to local attractions. Once in your room, you have to turn on a master switch so that the other light switches will work (something they do not tell you at check-in). The beds are topped with the world's thinnest bed spread. I may have well been sleeping outside under leaves. I need a blanket that is weighted and soft, not thin and course. The two times I have stayed there, I have had a room where my bed is positioned on a wall that is far from soundproof. I have heard intimate conversations and relations happening from my neighbors. When you need a place to sleep, you shouldn't have to worry about paper-thin walls. The lobby may have had some work done, but the rooms are in desperate need of a makeover. This Marriott Gold Rewards Member will not be staying here again, period. read more

There's a beautiful pool, a bar and restaurant for guests, as well as a comfy lounge area in the lobby. The beds are made for a perfect nights' sleep and the living area is great for those who work long into the night. This hotel is by far the cleanest I have ever been to. The room looked phenomenal. It was fully stocked with a Kitchen area, including dishes, silverware, pots and pans. The fridge has an ice maker, dishwasher, stove, and sink with garbage disposal. We did our best to maintain the cleanliness of our room. We washed our dirty dishes with the dish soap provided. I really like this hotel. It is perfectly located between Durham and Chapel Hill. Situated at the foot of Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, it is 15 minutes to Duke and 5 minutes to UNC. Could not be in a better spot. I would give this hotel 5 star were it not for the current renovations which are a bit of a bother right now. The staff there gets 5 stars and the amenities are equally excellent. The staff is kind, efficient, and very considerate. The GM there, Andrew Strickland, couldn't be better. He is attentive and totally focused on his guests. For example, I dropped my wallet after leaving recently. I called Andrew, he went immediately to my room, found my wallet and sent it Fedex to me. He deserves an award for service! Parking is ample. They have a free hot breakfast in the morning, rooms have microwaves and full fridges. They also have coffee makers. The hotel gives you two days of coffee and tea for free and some popcorn. They also have limited room service during the week. Great spot for families or business travelers. read more

We have been here for over a month now. My husband is working near chapel hill and I travel with him with our dog. They are pet friendly and the hotel is actually clean (those two usually don't go hand and hand) the house keeping here is awesome!! They rock about cleaning your room pretty much just as soon as you leave and they come every day! The breakfast is really really good!! I usually think hotel breakfast is gross and fake and plastic tasting.... Not this one... It's real good!!! The atmosphere at this residence inn is beautiful. It's a really pretty hotel set up. Land scaping is on point!!! Nice walking trail all around the grounds. Nice pool and BBQ area. They have lots of washers and dryers in their laundry room for a quick laundry duty. Although their dryers lack a little and you usually have to dry twice. The staff is all very very classy and very nice and helpful!! Dhalia at the front desk was a wonderful friendly lady, I really like her :). The internet is a little slower than I'd like and we have an apple TV and every time we wanted to watch a movie on it we would have to call the actual internet company to boost our speed cause the hotel couldn't help with internet problems so they just gave me internet company phone number! Bottom line though.... I'm very picky about hotels. I usually drive my husband nuts with my pickiness haha we have switched out of so many hotel rooms cause something wasn't up to my standards! Not this one though... It all met my standards cleanliness wise and size wise. Plus full kitchen with large fridge, stove top and dishwasher!! Heck yes!!! We have to leave this residence inn tomorrow cause this residence inn is all booked up for the rest of week and I'm so sad cause I really like it here it's like our little home away from home right now! We are going to move to the residence inn in Durham but from the reviews I'd much rather just stay put. I am a loyal Marriott member, and I like Residence Inns because of the larger rooms and free breakfast. This is a pretty nice one with a large courtyard in the interior. The front desk actually gives you a map with directions on how to park near your room because that is easier than trying to walk the length of the place. Gorgeous gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff. It was my first time ever in an extended stay hotel. I wish I'd needed to stay more than one night so I could make use of the beautiful kitchen, and the lovely sitting area. The room has dimmer lights above the bed, which I found very romantic. It was quiet, the bed was very comfortable and the rooms are spacious. The dining area/bar is the best I've ever seen in a hotel that doesn't advertise itself as high-end. I would highly recommend this Residence Inn, even if it is a little out of your way. Free wi-fi and buffet breakfast with a shuttle to and from UNC hospital for a small fee. read more

A great place to stay. If you know the brand, you know what to expect, but I found the rooms larger than usual and better appointed. Nice flat screens to be certain, but even better are the shades which fully cover the windows and you will get a dark room. Carpet and furnishings were in great and matching condition. read more
