Complimentary parking is always a plus, but it's a bit further than you'd expect. If it's raining you will definitely get wet lol. The property is nice enough if you're just in for an overnight. I'd recommend something a bit more higher end for an extended stay. There's always young people staying here so if quiet is your vibe then perhaps the Sheraton or AC. Larry was extremely personable and professional. Larry also maintained the highest level of customer service. Other staff who worked at the front desk, including Marcus consistently provided outstanding customer service as well.... If I were to rate anything as a growth, I believe it would be the communication between the front desk and housekeeping regarding checkout information. But other than that one detail, the hotel is clean and welcoming, the staff is inviting and the hotel is in a central location to food. 10/10 Recommend read more

Good sleep. Even under construction. Service is good. Comfortable sized rooms. Temperatures are adjustable. The yucks are the parking. You never can find parking around the front of the hotel. You have to go to the shared paid lot w a tag given to you by the hotel and then once in the parking deck it's lower level only but only certain spaces. And the construction folks are taking up a lot of customer spots. There was one time it was a truck and trailer that took up 4 Spots. So...no. And the coffee/breakfast is a paid thing and the items they have are like what you can get at a better quickie mart. Another no. read more

I had high expectations for the Aloft in Chapel Hill based on a great stay at the Aloft in Asheville just a few months ago. Unfortunately, I was served a deep dish of disappointment. I got a prompt from the interweb to check into my room on Friday morning. I did. I requested a 4:00 arrival. I got confirmation it was all set. But when I presented myself at the desk at 3:59, I was told there were no rooms ready for me and I'd have to wait on a list behind 4 others. I was also told that the room might not be ready for another 1 to 2 hours. I didn't express the full extent of my displeasure to Jaylin (not sure spelled right), because it was not her fault that the cleaning staff couldn't keep up with demand. And she was very polite. So with no other option, I put my name on a list (literally a paper list! Hello, 19th century). I got a text from the hotel within about 20 minutes, but by that time was already half-way across town heading to a great food/drink spot to kill the one or two hours we were expecting to need to wait. Check-in at 6:00 went OK, but there was a parking hiccup, since apparently I was supposed to have registered to park - something not communicated at all until that moment. Fortunately it was quickly resolved and I was given the hanger tag needed to park at the hotel. The room was clean, the water pressure and temp in the shower was great. One star. Jaylin (still not sure of spelling) was very nice so that's the 2nd star. So only two stars because: 1) The room design was terrible: you can't use any part of the bathroom without flooding light into the sleeping part of the room. Even Motel 6 has a door so you can shave or brush your teeth without waking your partner. 2) The abysmal job of management to adequately staff the reception desk (Jaylin was alone and there was a line) and cleaning staff. And if my room isn't ready when I said I planned to arrive, I shouldn't have to find out at the desk. There is plenty of automation and digital connectivity to make it easy to alert me ahead of time. 3) The only place to get water in the lobby when we got there was from the massive leak near the pool table. The two carafes of iced water had ice, but no water. This was a truly disappointing visit to what should have been a top-notch property. We will definitely never be coming back, or for that matter, never stay at an Aloft again. read more

I checked in on July 31 and Larry at the front desk said there would be a hold for incidentals on my card (which I'm aware of due to many hotel stays) and a charge for parking. That evening I logged into my account to pay bills and noticed that my account was overdrawn. I checked and saw that I had been charged $414.40 which was way more than my stay and I IMMEDIATELY called the front desk and was told that I would have to wait until the morning to get help. I waited until the morning (August 1) and went to the front desk and they knew who I was and told me "It's not much we can do sorry!" I said: "That's unacceptable. I have to get my daughter to her track meet and with my account overdrawn I'm unable to get gas." They said they would relay this to their manager and get back to me. I never heard back from a manager. Tuesday (August 2) as I was getting dressed I was putting on my shoes and noticed there was a roach on the cooler and I didn't want to believe it but sure enough in all it's glory it was having the time of it's life. I went to the front desk and informed them and they said pretty much nothing. I contacted corporate and was supposed to receive a call back the same day but nope I didn't. I received an email telling me I'd hear from accounting in 3-5 business days. It didn't take you 3-5 business days to take money from my account. I'm highly disappointed in the Marriott. read more

I stayed here on a recent visit to UNC. It's technically walking distance, but there's a big hill and the Chapel Hill bus system is currently free, so I only walked the downhill way (campus to hotel). If you do this after dark, bring a flashlight. The hotel has a fun lobby with boardgames, a pool table, bright colors and open space. A couple things were slightly off. My room was pre-booked and pre-paid for by the group I was visiting. When I spoke to the front desk, I was told my room was a queen room, but when I got the key and went to look at it, it had two double beds. Not a big deal just odd that it wasn't what the front desk manager had told me minutes before. Also, there were cans of hard seltzer in the mini fridge that seemed to have been left by a previous guest. Annoyingly, even though the hotel was prepaid, the card I put down for incidentals got hit with the taxes ($56.44). I had no room service or anything extra. There's free tea and coffee in the lobby. Fresh towels had to be specifically requested, and rooms are not cleaned every day. I think it's only every third day unless requested. read more

Parking is very scary dark parking deck that's unkept with lots of towels in laundry bags near the exit. Very unsanitary! Very dangerous! Almost no spots in deck nightly! If you're a woman traveling alone I would never stay here. The worst Marriott experience I have ever had. Called to extend my reservation by one day when booking with the agent she was friendly and quickly add an additional day but never disclosed that the rate of the room would increase by $300 for the just one night. I was told I should have read the email even though I spoke to someone by phone. However I trusted the front desk clerk who book my reservation by phone. I spoke with the onsite team and the Marriott corporate team. The on-site team offered a $50 adjustment however I never received it. It's disappointing because I have always stayed at Marriot and travel often for work. Just in this year I've spent 23 nights with the Marriott brand. No help from corporate no help from on-site team. Boutique hotel located about two miles from downtown. I came here for a work trip. I was immediately drawn to the modern decor of the hotel. The lobby included a bar, store, sitting area, and computer workstation. My room had an unconventional layout but was still nicely decorated and spacious. My only two complaints were the TV did not have many channels let alone the Bravo channel. My second complaint was the cleanliness of the bathroom or lack there of. The shower was obviously not cleaned and a gross clump of hair was sitting on top of the drain. Disappointing. read more

I stayed here for three days , Dec 23-26, so I was here for Xmas the staff was awesome, super helpful and dog friendly!!! Lexus got treats everyday. They have spare dog beds and dog bowls this is the dog friendliest hotel I have stayed at !!! The room is super fun and has a bean bag it as well as a nice shower and a small desk to work from. The bed was comfortable , I sleep great. There is a small bar which the bartender Travis is awesome . There is breakfast but you have too pay 8-9 dollars, the first two days it was good but my last day the breakfast was yummy , it was obviously the first two days the cook did not care but today the cook made up for it. I found a horrible stain on one of the beds and reported it in the morning just to inform the front desk. He told me that was why the pad was on the bed, to cover the gross stain! Stayed one night here in the summer when business is slow because UNC students are away and got a good deal on Priceline. A bit hard to find the entrance but no big deal. Overpriced. 240 for one night, and the rates in the room stated it wouldn't exceed 200 per night. Toenail clippings on the floor. I stepped on them because they were brushed up under the desk in the bedroom. Dirty bathrooms including staining on the tiles, glass that wasn't fully cleaned, and hair in the drain. Bathroom fan did not work. Bedroom ceiling was stained and painted over on areas that were previously leaking. Dust covered many surfaces, especially on the lights, nightstand, and desk. Desk was also sticky and had some odd liquid we had to wipe off before using it. Door lock was difficult to turn (it appeared locked but wasn't, so we had to jiggle it a few times and shake the door to get it to lock) Only one desk chair available in the room Amenities were alright (water/tea/coffee/toiletries), aside from musty maybe even moldy coffee maker Front desk attendant was very kind and nice Decor in main area was nice, parking was easy read more

Beware the rules for parking in the garage. Front desk just provided me a car tag and parking garage code she wrote on it and then claims no responsibility since they don't manage the lot. There are some spots that are labeled "NO Hotel" and some "Residence" and you need to find the spots that actually say "Hotel". Arriving at 10pm - I was unaware of spots labeled Hotel since they were covered and taken already. I was just told to park in garage. So woke to find my car was gone. Asked the front desk and she immediately knew it was my brand car and said it was towed. I said why- and why wasn't I notified my tag was hanging. I was so confused. She said she wasn't sure why ...she mostly contacts guests if they parked wrong but wasn't working last night?? Oh nice what a waste of a tag and process. There was 30 empty spots near mine since I parked on side so was so confused why I was parked wrong since spot didn't say No hotel and didn't say Residence. GM walked out to show me. It is poor signing. It is not upon entering garage- it's on the side which entering in the evening you have to look up from dark keypad to see it. I did not. I was focused on key pad and getting to sleep. GM held her ground taking no responsibility as they don't manage garage. But offered to pay for taxi but nothing else. So they got me a taxi - driver confirmed location with front desk since she set it up yet they sent to WRONG location. So I then paid my own $$ drive another 30 minutes to then get to correct location plus $$$ cash to the tow company. Tow company says happens a lot. So GM was not able to price adjust anything (since I didn't book direct) basically shrugged jt off to take up with corporate.. Corporate was of absolutely no help. Actually communicated with GM as if she did help. Which was not true nor care. Tow company says happens alot. So my question is why have a parking tag if not notifying guests? Also add signage to the front desk and tell people! Will never stay there again due to the principle of the matter. Cost me a lot of extra $$ and half of my morning to fix situation. This was probably the first Aloft property that told me right off the bat that I wouldn't be able to check in till 3pm. Then front desk person didn't even check the name or anything just said nope sold out till 3pm. Being SPG platinum you would think they would do something but I guess it really was sold out. She eventually said check in at 2pm but that's still kind of strange.. what happened to all those people that checked out way early to get to the airport? Doesn't house keeping start early? The room was ok, it was a pretty good size and the ironing board is actually on the other side of the bed where you wouldn't even expect to go to (Was towards the wall). The bar downstairs serves pretty good drinks but they close way too early at midnight. I wish if they had people drinking they should just keep it open. There's a pool table that is free so that was really nice. The hotel is close to Elements which is an Asian fusion/wine bar. Walking distance as it was just up the stairs. I really enjoyed dinner there. Didn't venture to other stores in that plaza but I would consider staying here again since it was convenient. It was strange the Sheraton was actually cheaper. If you stay here pay close attention to your credit card activity. They charged my credit card an additional $106 after my stay. This charge was not included in my receipt when I checked out. I called the hotel, spoke to the manager and she told me it was a pending charge that would clear in a couple of days. When the pending charge did not clear, I called back 3 days later and spoke to a different person, also claiming to be the manager. This manager could not find record of this additional charge. He made no additional efforts, no apology, no explanation for the charge. The staff is very otherwise friendly and helpful. The hotel is moderately clean. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The front desk attendant told me to park anywhere in the overflow lot as the parking deck was full. Which is terrible for parking anyway. However, apparently the employees do not even know where their patrons are allowed to park as I received a phone call at 11:30pm waking myself and my family up. The front desk told me my car was about to be towed and must move it in the next 15 minutes. I had to get dressed and go move my car at 11:30pm. Credit card system was down at the bar as well. We wanted a nice place to stay for an anniversary trip. The gentleman, Ben, that checked us in gave us complimentary parking for our anniversary and made sure we were happy with the room. It was clean, comfortable, and modern. We had a great view of UNC campus with great eating options nearby as their lounge was closed due to COVID. My family has booked a stay at the Aloft Hotel in Chapel Hill for tonight so we can attend a college visit. The lobby and hotel over all are nice and hip. Friendly weekend staff at the Check-In and bar. No complaint there. As a Marriott property I expected a pristine room to settle into. When we arrived at our room #328, we were greeted by what looked like a left over dog bowl at the entrance of our room. When we entered it appeared fine at first. Then we started to settle in and noticed that the toilet paper was unraveled and it was almost gone and no other roll was available. The shower caddy that has the shampoo and body wash dispenser only had shampoo. Body wash was empty. The shower floor was nasty. In the fridge there was a container of dog food left in it. The staff provided a new roll of paper and a bar of soap for the shower after I mentioned it. My biggest concern is that we are in a dirty room and have no confidence that if we ask for another room, it will not be any better. I am only staying 1 night, but truly am disappointed. Stayed for 3 nights during UNC graduation weekend. Booked the hotel almost a year in advance as it was one of the only hotels to allow a cancelation without penalty and without a one night non-refundable deposit. SO happy that I stayed here. Very close to campus (a $6 Uber ride to graduation ceremonies) and has some dinning options in the center next door (check out Elements for a truly special dinner). We checked in and Winston at the front desk greeted us with a big smile and made us feel so welcome at the start of our stay. Parking is either self park ($10/day) or valet at $13/day. Hotel is clean and has a nice lobby and bar. Room has a nice layout and was spotless. Bridgette welcomed us at the front desk the next morning (as we had the complementary coffee and fruit) and was so nice to us during our stay. The hotel even had small bottles of champagne with a congratulations sign out for the guests on Friday before graduation weekend began!! For the class of hotel category Aloft is situated I do not think you can find a better hotel in Chapel Hill. I will stay here if and when I come back to Chapel Hill again. read more

I recently visited Chapel Hill and had a great three night stay at this hotel. The valet instructed us where to park while we registered. We were helped at the registration desk immediately and found Bridget to be lovely and welcoming, not to mention efficient. We were instructed to park in the structure located just a few steps from the hotel itself. Don't worry...parking is free. You'll get a code to enter and exit and a parking hang tag to display. Pretty easy. The hotel looks brand new even though it's been there for years. It is clean and all staff are friendly from the bartender to housekeeping staff. We entered our room and WOW! were we surprised. The decor is modern and oh so clean! The beds looks comfortable and believe me, they were. I really appreciated the amenities provided including, coffee/tea, bottled water, black out shades, iron, ironing board, FOUR pillows on each bed, and blow dryer. There are also large desks in the room to conduct any office work you may have. Next to the hotel you'll find a small retail and restaurant space. Explore and you'll find coffee, a breakfast place and a nice place for lunch/dinner. Very convenient! I think the best part of our stay was being acknowledged on our way in and out. Even Bridge inquired about family we were visiting. Nice touch. We didn't feel intruded upon, we felt like the staff cared. The only minor issue was that the bathroom sink ran slowly. I don't think I'll be returning to No. Carolina anytime in the future, but I plan to seek out aloft Hotels wherever I go. If the other locations are as comfortable and welcoming as this, bring it on! read more

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at, hands-down. Aloft is a relatively new brand in the Marriott family. It seems highly targeted at millenials with its open-concept lobby/cafe/bar/kitchen overflowing across the ground floor. There are also other areas for refreshing, swimming and even occasional live music! But most importantly, the room was extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent. The room layout/desk were all great for a combination of relaxing and getting work done. I really liked the huge sliding door for the bathroom and all the little shelf/nook spaces too. The decor is hip and modern while also being relatively minimalist. Everything is done beautifully, especially the bathroom tile. I felt like I was staying in someone's HGTV redesigned flat. The WiFi is free (as it always should be) and relatively fast. There's also a wireless phone and very nice-sized-for-a-hotel-room flatscreen TV. My only minor complaint is that the ironing board (which is secretly hidden in a nook behind the headboard, weird) is not a standard size. It's as though it was designed for ironing little people clothes. A standard ironing board would be helpful for business travelers! Pro tip: The omelettes from the kitchen are HUGE. read more

This hotel is trying too hard to be hip. As a frequent traveler, the most important hing to me is a comfortable bed. I'm shocked that they supplied such cheap and hard beds in favor of spending so much on interior finishes and decorative features at every corner. The second most important thing is wifi, which is slow and unreliable here. I experienced an hours-long outages on multiple devices while trying to work; it lagged when it did work. I'd rather pay for a fast connection than experience this for "free." It's unfortunate that self-park is super inconvenient and I'm essentially forced to deal with valet. And, the rate has been increased to $10. Also, can I note how terrible it is that the thermostat is located almost directly near he heater? My room was hot on one side and freezing near the bed and in the bathroom. As an interior designer, and it irrationally irritates me that form wins over function in this hotel. I can guarantee that the overuse of wallpaper, custom lighting fixtures, and hipster comic strip graphics everywhere ate up the budget for proper infrastructure, good beds, well designed HVAC systems, and decent internets. I'm going back to the old standby, Sheraton, next time I'm in the area. read more

Conveniently located. Priced fairly. Consistent hospitality. What more can you ask for in a hotel? Not much from my vantage point. The Aloft Hotel Chapel Hill is a very new accommodation option for the area. In fact, last year when I was in the Triangle Park area for business, I had to stay at the Sheraton (I'm an SPG loyalist) because the Aloft was just too new for my colleague. This trip - I pulled seniority and we stayed at Aloft. It was a good idea. With that said, frequent hotel stayers (is that a word?) often come in one of two packages - you love new places and find comfort in newly constructed hotels . . . or you dislike modern trappings and yearn for historic splendor. If you count yourself in the former camp - you'll love the Aloft. It's new in every aspect. Even the staff are fresh and hip (and a bit edgy cool). If, however, you side in the camp of historic preservation - find a B&B in Chapel Hill. Sorry. There are good runs (the UNC cross country course is just out the back door (actually the front door) of the hotel) in very close proximity and you're close enough to highway 40 to get to Durham and Duke - if that's where your business takes you. One bit of advice - ask for a room on an upper floor (5 or 6) facing the golf course. Much quieter. read more

Probably my favorite hotel in Chapel Hill. Not as luxurious as the Carolina Inn but a great value and very convenient. The hotel is very bright, the rooms are quite spacious with nice TVs. It has a modern feel (a little cliche some times) but still nice size rooms and good amenities. I also like the snack bar area, better than over-priced hotel restaurants. A key side benefits is that you are in walking distance to 4-5 good restaurants. Also friendly staff. read more

Aloft is really consistent in their branding and their customer service. My friend has stayed here twice in the past year & I've hung out in the room & in the XYZ lounge/lobby area alongside him. From check-in, you're greeted with a friendly smile & efficient service. The only con is paying for parking when you're actually staying at the hotel. Luckily, this most recent visit allowed me to park at the front of the hotel for free (since I was only staying a few hours). The rooms are decorated so modern & the Bliss amenities, Dasani water & coffee & tea are always a plus. Beds are nice & comfy & huge flat screen TVs complete the experience. I used to be able to drive the 2ish hours from Charlotte for a concert at Cat's Cradle and then head home that same day. Now that I'm too old for that kinda life, we make a night of it and get a room. Aloft is going to be my go-to for this exact kind of trip. We came in on a Friday afternoon. During check-in, valet let us know they'd keep our car handy since we'd be heading out again shortly. Check-in was quick and easy. The lobby is very modern and clean, decorated with bright colors and divided into several smaller areas for mingling or hanging out with your group. We found our room to be quite nice. We ended up in an accessible room, which was fine. It was super clean and well-stocked. I couldn't have asked for anything more for our short stay. After our show, we waited a few minutes for the valet to collect our vehicle -- this was the only delay we experienced. The lobby was lit in a warm, moody manner late at night. We quickly got settled in for the night. Even being a Friday night in a bustling college town, the hotel was peaceful. The bed was delightfully comfortable. We had a very restful night and a great sleep. My only complaint isn't even this location's fault; Aloft Chapel Hill was so pleasant that we stayed in the Aloft Asheville the following month and found that it didn't live up to the standard Chapel Hill had set. I'd absolutely stay at Aloft Chapel Hill again. It's perfect for a quick stay and I'd imagine it's great for longer trips, as well. read more
