Well my wife and I are Marriott owners we only stay in Marriott brand hotels as long as there is one no farther than 10-20 miles away from our destination. We are on a trip with my mom, my dad just passed and I needed to get her away for a while so we are on a little road trip. This is our first stop in Charleston, after checking in we came up to the double room I booked and I went into the first bathroom and I said we will take this room. I didn't want my mom to see the shower because alls we keep telling her is how wonderful Marriott hotels are and resorts are. The shower panel was cracked and just repaired with silicone and the whole top was just barely holding on with the caulking. The wall actually moves see the video, really Marriott has employees that are that fricken lazy to repair something correctly. So that is number 1 number 2 the heat, we turned the heat up when we go here. In the morning we got up and it was still a little chilly my mom said ya I had to take the towels out of the bathroom and use as a blanket it was cold. I said why didn't you get the extra blanket out of the closet, she said there wasn't any. My wife went and looked and nope nothing there was one in our room. So we left for the day returned at 3:30 came up and the cleaning lady was in the hall so we asked for an extra blanket, she said there should be two one in each room we let her in to see there wasn't one. So back to the heat, I turned up the heat becuase I noticed there were sensors that once movement stopped the heat would stop I put it on 72 an 1 1/2 later it's still 68 I called down they sent up someone he tells me to shut the bathroom door that it sucks the heat out and put the heat on 78 well it's been 2 more hours it's Only 69. We only have 1 more night I don't want to move. The breakfast was good this morning the front desk people have been friendly.

Not once did I find the door to be locked & requiring key card entry, even hours after 8:00 p.m.

I was very disappointed with this property for three (3) reasons: 1. That Marriott would have it associated with their brand as it is currently. In my opinion, it indicates a woeful lack of oversight & quality control. 2. This could so easily become a property worthy of a 5-star review if management/ownership were to make a determined effort to provide accommodations & personal experiences representative of standards of excellence. 3. Multiple personal experiences & observations during my nearly one week stay that, in my opinion, indicate either a lack of willingness or awareness of the most basic of standards in the hospitality industry. I would have checked-out after spending only one night if I had not been staying as someone's guest & doing so would have caused personal embarrassment to the individual who, in good faith, had arranged & was financially responsible for the accommodations. While I have many reasons to rate this property as poor, the most disturbing may be the misrepresentation of security measures. A sign at the rear entrance states the doors are locked as of 8:00 p.m. Every night during my stay, I returned after 8:00 p.m. - sometimes several hours past the designated hour. Not once did I find the doors locked & requiring key card access. Do NOT let the Marriott name mislead you into believing quality is assured. Do NOT be swayed by the aggregated rating as many of the highest rated reviews are several YEARS old. Instead, consider reviews posted in only the last 12 months. ___________ Fellow Yelpers! If you find this review to be helpful & want to help others benefit from it, please take a moment to rate it. Thank you!

    Molded toothpick on bathroom counter

Convenient location is about all I can say positive about this hotel. Breakfast is very lackluster with minimal selections and the room cleanliness wasn't even subpar, it was disgusting. Turned down the bed to discover blood on the comforter! Nastiness in the bathroom with a crusty, moldy toothpick on the counter and long black hairs everywhere in the bathroom. Pulled the extra pillow and blanket out of the closet to find no pillow case on the pillow and an odor to them. Definitely would not recommend and certainly won't be staying here in the future.

    Walking to California (Dreaming) 08/2017
    Glenn V.

A tucked away little road just off Savanah Hwy called Ripley stands three hotels and another across the marina. No action (food, drinks, whatcha got?) other than California Dreaming, again, across the lagoon. A bus comes every hour (twice an hour on weekends, check the schedules at the front desk) shuttling visitors to and fro to Market Street, downtown Charleston. All front desk operators and managers were of the finest training and all posessed a natural customer service style, all very professional. Two beds in two separate rooms, a kitchen, living room, and a table with four chairs was a good space for my two week stay. The pool, weight room, computer room were all up to speed with current models of everything. The daily breakfast is an excellent buffet of most everything one could possibly want. Here's the problem. The beds were so soft, soft to the point that each day I awoke to significant back pain. Not very painful, but very noticeably irritating.

    Cockroaches

Google Two bedroom suite. Awful experience for our Mom's 75th birthday. Second day room was bombarded with cockroaches. Had to throw away holiday baked goods shake out all of our items & clean everything in our garage when we got home. Room had lots of dust & cobwebs. Older suite in need of an update.

Black mold on bathroom floor. Disgusting!!
    Molly D.

Nope! Do your self a favor and look elsewhere. This place is in need for an update. The room was ran down. Black mold on bathroom floor. Kitchen was dingy and dirty. Front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and not on top of their game. Housekeeping staff get the star! They were upbeat and pleasant! Beds were meh! Place needs an update! We are Marriott reward members and won't ever be back here.

    BLACK MOLD

EVERY NASTY REVIEW IS 100% ACCURATE!!! Marriott already gives me consumer whiplash due to inconsistency in all of their properties. But this one actually drove me to set up a Hilton Honors account and MOVE BRANDS ENTIRELY. Disgusting mold in the bathroom, on the floors the walls and the ceiling. Cockroach carcasses on the couch!!! Blood smears on the side of the couch?!!? I couldn't even stomach the idea of opening the cabinets or fridge. They should sell this property to Econolodge.

Residence Inn by Marriott Charleston Downtown/Riverview is one of my favorite hotels in the Charleston area. This hotel is great for family visiting town and business clients that are staying a little longer and need a nice place that has plenty of room to breathe and be comfortable. The location is great and convenient as it is close to everything, but is still far enough away that it is more quiet and relaxed. The staff here is amazing and goes all out to make sure that everyone has everything that they need to have the best stay. This hotel has been consistently excellent throughout the years and it is recommended.

Our first stay at a Residents Inn was very pleasant, efficient, cost effective and seamless....all components for excellent vacation experience. Located on James Island and literally a 8 minute drive to Charleston's French quarter this Animal friendly hotel {$100.00 surcharge} boasts large suites with fully equipped kitchens, king sized beds, coin operated laundry on several floors, self parking, free breakfast,Nighttime meet and greet events on Mondays,Tuesdays and Wednesdays with light snacks and free wine and beer,Free shuttles to and from the French Quarter starting at 5.00pm until 11.00 {A much appreciated service for a night on the town without the hassle of parking and/or driving impaired} The property is well maintained, service is exemplary and the breakfast crew are just about the happiest and most helpful folks I've ever met in a paid accommodation. This is a family accommodation with repeat customers that plan their vacations around this location so kids of all ages abound, populate the large pool area and dominate morning breakfast and evening snack times...so be aware this is not a sedate, quiet and calm hotel environment in public areas. That being said I would love to stay here again with all things considered and commend the staff for a very calming and memorible stay.....

The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.

We walked to all of the best restaurants and shops once we parked, we only left the a garage once the entire time there. We loved the daily breakfast and were intentional about making it downstairs for it. The grits were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and once topped with the shredded cheese and fresh cracked pepper, I couldn't get enough! The pastries and biscuits were also very good. The biscuits and pastries tasted like someone's grandma made them. I know this review is long, so I'll stop now even though I could say so much more.
