This hotel is an embarrassment to the Residence Inn brand. I've stayed in cheap 2‑star motels that were cleaner, safer, and better maintained than this place. Everything is falling apart. Across two separate stays, in two different rooms (a 2‑bedroom and a 1‑bedroom), we had the same trash‑level issues: broken light fixtures hanging down in fridge, nasty old pull‑out sofas, uncomfortable beds, ripped curtains and a sour smell that hits you the second you walk in. Both stays, our keys demagnetized nonstop, which was just the cherry on top of the chaos. Breakfast? A joke. Overcooked eggs and i think it was meat every day, waffles only on weekends, no juice machine, and the whole area is swarmed by people (whole familes) who clearly aren't even staying at the hotel that were rough and loud characters. And let me be blunt: as a woman, I would never stay here alone. This place feels neglected, unsafe, and completely mismanaged. It needs a full renovation and a leadership overhaul. read more

After days of consistently calling to speak with Chris Hill, Area General Manager, he finally gave me the pleasure of allowing me to hear his voice for a few minutes. He made sure to remind me that he was doing me the favor of taking some time in his office to speak to me. The Front Office Manager, Maria Lopez Soto.. I'm not sure if she was protecting me from him or vice versa. The entire front desk staff seemed to do everything in their power to protect each other. Loved ones of staff were constantly on property, only assuming they were not paying guests as these same people were seen hopping the pool fences and not tapping room keys. Marriott Bonvoy employees (they told me straight out that they worked for the company) were right there celebrating with them. It's very apparent that they don't want their endless summer to be taken away from them. Already anticipating the responses and Yelp cover ups that will be taking place after this review. They made it very apparent that they hated me: I was welcomed to this Residence Inn by 3 men peeing on the wall right outside of my hotel room window. Grown men were yelling in the lobby and up and down the halls all night long. Boyfriends of employees parked in front of the hotel blasting music at full volume all day. Adults hopped the fence into the pool area to get drunk and smoke weed and run around for hours on end night after night. Couldn't use the jacuzzi due to deathly allergy to smoke inhalation but begged them to have this area usable for me for just one night of my stay. Instead, the drunken, puking, reefer, sex party was still continuing in that hot tub that same night. Zero cameras on property and staff used this as a way to try to gaslight me into believing that complaints I made weren't real. Staff would knock on the door and immediately use their hotel keys to open it and try to walk in, even after I'd yell that I had just gotten out of the shower and was naked. I would be told that the hotel had security but after staying on property for 5 days straight I didn't see them more than once. I was asked to instead provide the last names of strangers so identities could be found and issues could be resolved, obviously impossible. Used the laundry services and my clothes smelled like mold, mildew, and diarrhea. Had to pack up all of my stuff in the middle of my stay to move to the property next door. Staff rolled their eyes at me and talked about me under their breath during my entire stay because I was unhappy about the things that were continuously happening and how unseriously I was being taken. Treated like an inconvenience for not being able to get sleep or work done and instead physically ill from the stress of feeling dangerously unsafe. Came home to my legs and ankles so swollen I can barely walk. My health issues were exasperated by the stress and fear brought onto me while at Residence Inn Newark. To the point that I'm not eating, barely sleeping, and on the toilet 10+ times a day. Bolting awake at night from a dead sleep with severe anxiety that another man is going to come through my hotel room door. Spent hours on the phone with corporate and was promised phone calls and emails from hotel management, which they never delivered on it. Was told issues were escalated to upper management and even told elaborate stories on how these managers actually dealt with the situation behind the scenes. Same managers knew nothing of these events taking place the very next day when I asked them face to face. Was offered $0 in compensation nor any kind of resolution for what I experienced. This is all just the tip of the ice berg to the horrors of what to expect at this property. Fun place if you want to party it up. Not a nice place if you want to be treated as a valuable customer whose right to feel safe is considered. read more

Upon check in, the right side of the counter where you pay/tap your card- that machine doesn't work so I had to be charged twice (front desk staff told me that the first charge will drop off and it's just a pending authorization.) She was nice about it and there's not much you can do but wishing that the management can fix that machine so it won't inconvenience others. The rooms there are clean. However bedding was itchy and uncomfortable. Breakfast in the morning was great, really impressed with Nina, the staff member who kept the dining area sparkling clean, food replenished, and helped give out breakfast meals to guests who were waiting for her to finish replenishing the empty bowls. She was very hard working and worked nonstop the whole time I was there. From wiping down tables, managing food, talking to guests, and everything else- she impressed me. read more

First time staying at a Residence Inn and I'm definitely a fan! There were 5 of us so we booked the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suites and it was great - just the perfect size for all of us! The room also included a full kitchen and living room. Each room at their own private bathroom, TV and desk with chair. Our room overlooked the pool area so it was nice view. The bathrooms were a decent size, but could probably use an upgrade. Why are their no bathroom fans in most hotels now? Hotel was quiet at night which is always a plus especially because we stayed on a Saturday night. We came down for their complimentary breakfast on Sunday morning and it was pretty decent. They had a coffee bar with hot and iced coffee, cereal, bagels, oatmeal, eggs and even sausage breakfast sandwiches. It was enough to fill our bellies before hitting the road to head home. The only issue was we saw a couple of gnats - one in our room and one in the restaurant, but it wasn't the end of the world. Staff was very friendly at the restaurant as well as check-in. OK, so the room was okay, but not great. The garbage can inside the kitchen was way too small & they did not give you extra trash bags, next a lot of the silverware and plates and utensils were missing and have not been replaced, and one of the elevators wasn't working and when the second elevator went out, they said they weren't gonna fix it, but then people started complaining big time, and they ended up calling somebody to fix the elevator. I also noticed that the lights went out. I don't know what that was about, but there were always a lot of repair trucks there To Marriott: with all the money that you charge us for hotel rooms, and all the money that you make, it's unacceptable that you have hotels in this condition & I've noticed lately that all of the residence inns, especially in Texas and California have gone downhill! In fact in El Paso, I was staying at a residence Inn, just a little while ago, and I got bitten by a spider in the bedding, and it was terrible!! My husband and I stayed here because his sister is in the ICU at Kaiser Hospital and we wanted a place with a full kitchen and very comfortable. This hotel is hidden which we enjoyed because not a lot of traffic. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance and they serve breakfast every morning. The hotel front desk representative was very friendly and helpful ( I can't remember her name) but we liked her. It's a clean hotel and very quiet which we truly enjoyed. We had a one bedroom suite it comes with a kitchen, lived room , separate bedroom and bathroom. Very clean and the bed was super comfortable and we were able to get a good nights sleep. If you're ever in this area we highly recommended this hotel and we will definitely use it again if we return to this area. read more

don't stay here unless you hate yourself lol right when we checked in, the ladies (one younger lady with black hair and tan skin & one older hawaiian woman (?)) were rude & passive aggressive to my family. and i asked the hawaiian lady where the nearest restroom was; she just looked at me ignored me..? the fire alarm was pulled at around 10:30pm during my stay, but they didn't announce that it was a false alarm (or any updates/explanation for that matter) & it took them about 30ish minutes to turn it off. everyone was walking back in while it was still on because word got around amongst the guests that it was accidentally pulled on the fifth floor so it was safe to go back inside. also found bugs on the floor. i read the review that said that this should be called the cockroach hotel but i only saw spiders. and the third level stinks pretty bad. honestly the worst hotel i've stayed at. if you're looking for a better place, the hotel next door is decent lmao read more

Or are you adding the extra attitude because you are upset that there won't be enough leftover for you to take home? Manager has a bad attitude. She wasn't very helpful on a couple situations. She needs to work on her customer service!! Homeless encampment in back parking lot, broken glass that was overlooked (5x). Alarm went off one night at 1:30am, kids in pool at 8:00 am screaming and a late night pool party. No sense of management control on grounds & rules. BBQ pit did not work - ruined my steaks. Breakfast several mornings biscuits/breakfast sandwiches overcooked. Same everyday. Light in room didn't work by dining table - like a strobe light wouldn't stay on or off and maintenance couldn't figure it out, refrigerator was super loud. Rooms need a little TLC. After a very, very, very long day, I checked in tonight was greeted by Matt, a very pleasant young man. He was very friendly and kindly listened to me reminisce about an old bowling alley and roller skating rink that I frequented as a child where this hotel now stands. You see, I grew up literally 2 blocks away. Later and after unpacking, I realized that the port charging station did not work in the room. I went down to ask if they had spare units because I didn't want to have to move to a different room as that would require repacking and then unpacking again. To be honest, I could have gone to the gas station and bought one, after such a long day, I was short on energy and patience. Much to my surprise he offered me his personal socket so that I can charge my phone. He said he had plenty at home. He saw my dilemma and showed true kindness. What a kind gesture. If I asked 100 strangers to let me borrow something for a few days without anything in return I'd bet that less than 1% would help. People like Matt is why I stay loyal to Marriott hotels. We really wanted to like this place, but it is in need of some updating and repair. The shower in our room had a leaking connection at the shower head that sprayed water straight up into the ceiling and had started peeling the paint. The staff should have seen this and knew something wasn't right. The fact that a simple 2 minute fix was ignored speaks volumes of a place. We alerted staff upon checkout of that one issue at checkout. The carpet had footprint stains from some type of adhesive used on the carpet. The carpet was fairly dirty and outdated. The kitchen area was outdated and musty smelling, which was fantastic for my allergies. This would have been a 2-star review. However, the staff added one for their friendliness and being helpful if we needed anything. read more

Should be renamed to Cockroach Inn. This is a disgrace to Marriott brand and I will be reporting them to health department and corporate Marriott. BEWARE. Last time I ran across so many roaches was when I was in high school 30 years ago in my friend's parents apartment they was not used for a long time overseas. What the heck? Priceline rating is 8.4. I was fooled. Woke up 3 am to use rest room and ran into two small roaches on bathroom floor. I couldn't sleep after that. I did a check again after seeing reviews online on Yelp and saw the roach reviews. Then I found another two one on wall in bedroom and another medium size bigger on in desk. I could sleep and had to wale up at 7 am. But then ai crashed for few hours and woke at 7 to see 3 more one on bathroom sink and one two in bathroom. I called 3 am the front desk and they couldnt change the room and said will have manager call back but never did. I checkout early morning after deciding not to get another room and left especially that the front desk lady said there is not much they can do about the roaches (What!) because they have people staying at hotel for 3 years and they allow pets. We booked the Residence Inn in August for a two bedroom. We specifically booked a two bedroom so that our 5 month old could stay in a separate room, where we could set up his sleeping arrangements easily with a monitor. When we arrived at the Residence Inn Saturday, we were told that because of flooding weeks ago, they had overbooked available two bedrooms. We were offered a one bedroom instead. Because it was already late in the day, we couldn't find a different hotel easily and instead settled for the one bedroom. We had difficulty setting up our child's sleeping arrangement in the living room, and had a pretty miserable stay. If they had known weeks ago that the two bedroom was not available, we feel they should have contacted us well ahead of our stay to let us know and give us the option to find a different hotel. When we made this point to the receptionist and asked for a discount, we were told to contact the manager. The manager was not on the premises, both Saturday night and Sunday morning. We emailed the manager with our complaint, and it went unanswered. read more

My sister visited for Christmas 2023 and we got a 2 bedroom hotel. The room was nice and the hotel okay. The problem is they are letting the outside get run down. I had parked in the back but ended up moving my car because I thought it might get broke into. The homeless have made an encampment and are stealing power from the hotel sign. They have lights on and music playing at all hours. We wanted to take a walk but decided against it because of a dog running loose where the homeless live. An old run down RV was parked in back near the garbage. Last week I ended up going back by the hotel and the RV was still there a year later! The only change is that it had been moved about 100ft. My sister is planning on visiting again but the hotel is not doing anything to make visitors feel safe and the place is getting run down. I cant recommend staying there if you want a safe location. read more

I am a regular here because my business books this location for me. But after my visit last week, I may ask my company to reconsider. Staff is normally kind and helpful but this time i had to deal with a lady with glasses and braids named La Toya. She is the most unfriendliest worker and not very helpful. I'm not even sure how she got the job here and was able to work at the front. The lady never smiles and all she does is stare. Never greets anyone that walks through the front door. Our room had no phone. Strike one. AC was not working properly. Strike two. Pool had black mold growing along the walls and the hot tub was FILTHY and didn't turn off. Strike three. Read online reviews and saw that peoples cars had been broken into and even stolen. We cancelled our second night and went back to our room. Bedtime came and we opened up the pullout mattress for our kids to sleep on and found this large stain. I was doing my best to make the most of it but this was a bit beyond... i called the front desk and she was very apologetic. I was super polite because it wasn't her fault. At first I asked them if they could bring a new mattress or if they had a similar room close by.. they did not. Then I had asked them if they would be willing to give us a discount upon checkout and instead we were offered a two room suite and let me check it before moving my whole family over. That was nice. No I wouldn't ever stay here again for $130 a night but the way the front desk remedied the situation made me feel a lot better. Hopefully I sleep tonight. Management and ownership is to blame here. I have stayed at this location at least ten times in the last decade (probably more, but I'm comfortable with this being a safe estimate). The perks include a pretty darn good free breakfast, and having the luxury of a nice studio apartment style hotel--complete with decent kitchen, a living space, and bed/bathroom area. Generally, if you're looking to stay in the Bay Area for a few nights and don't care where you are located--as long as you're somewhat near a BART station, this place serves that purpose. Also, this location is within walking distance to grocery stores (Safeway and Sprouts), CVS, Starbucks, and many fast food or casual dining options. The bad: The parking is really tough-partly because an insane number of spots are "compact," and drivers often take up more than one spot. If you return from wherever you are after 5pm, expect to park in the back. The elevators are extremely slow. The old style luggage cart that could carry all the luggage a family of four needs in one trip have been replaced by these cheap airport style luggage racks that are unstable, flimsy,and require multiple trips to get everything from the car to your room and back again. Over the past decade, it seems like the service and maintenance of the rooms has deteriorated. The room we stayed in this weekend had peeling ceilings, grimy tubs and sinks (the kind of nasty that takes a while to accumulate, and a standard cleaning won't resolve it), and a tub that appeared to have been patched in some areas, and other areas where the glazing/paint was completely missing. These sort of things should be attended to immediately and not allowed to fall into disrepair. Also, while we try to reduce our carbon footprint by not always requesting cleaning service in our room, on the second day of our stay, we purposely left the DND sign on the inside doorknob this weekend to have the trash taken out and new linens/soaps provided. We left the hotel at 9am with a housekeeping cart a few doors from our room. When we returned after 5:30 pm, we returned to the room exactly as we found it. The front desk was very prompt in providing us with new towels, but we still found it disappointing that this service was skipped without any explanation or real apology from the front desk. I really like this location, and have for the most part found staff pleasant. But this issue with cleanliness, housekeeping and maintenance needs to be resolved, or I might start considering spending a little more to make sure that where I stay is safe and clean. read more

I stay in this hotel due to water flooding in our house. I was so happy to stay in a property close to the sprout market and many interesting restaurants. The front desk agent during our checking was courteous and professional. She is effective. However, on the following day (Aug 19th am), she sounds young and overwhelms when I requested few items. I have received a motel grade service. I'm surprised, the hotel front desk agent did not enforce guests to utilize face mask. My room is dingy, smell Indian food every time utilize the microwave; very dirty microwave fan area. I have ended up heavy cleaning the appliances (stove and microwave). The royal coffee choice is super weak. I have spent almost all day/night in the room. I would appreciate the cleaner room. I understand this is a tough pandemic time, I'm okay not to receive all kinds of services/food, etc, however, a hotel cannot deviate from cleanliness. Not coming back. read more

I was there for a week for work. I rented a PURE Wellness room. Let me start with the pro. I left food in my frig and didn't remember for a few hours after I left. They had someone gather my food and allowed me to return and get it. I really appreciated that. Now to the cons. I got up during the night on the first night to use the restroom. The lights are on motion sensors and turn on when you move so lights are going off. That totally destroyed my sleep. I thought they would go right off again, but the one took over an hour when I tested it. I had to get up a second time to turn off the lights. I'm there for a good night's sleep and definitely didn't get one. I don't remember having motion sensors in hotel rooms. I had a headache all day and couldn't work efficiently. The next day after returning to the hotel, I asked the front desk how to turn off the motion sensors. Her name was Jenny, and she asked why I expected her to know. She just runs the front desk. So I asked do I go get duct tape and tape up the sensors, and she just shrugged. With such unhelpfulness at the front desk, I didn't bother her with the other questions/problems I had. I was too tired to go back out so I used things in the room: ironing board and sheets and blankets in the closet, towels, etc. It was a hassle to use the lights and re-set every night, but at least they didn't go off during the middle of the night again. I thought of the good things about the PURE Wellness but didn't think of the bad. The fans were extremely loud -- well beyond white noise which helps you to sleep. It was also impossible to do a conference call or even a telephone call in the room. I either had to leave the room or go in the bathroom and close the door -- neither is good for work calls. They have a desk for working in the room but didn't bother to put lighting there. Can't see or hear. I used the pool a couple of times while there. There were storms which brought down palm fronds and other debris. They cleared the walkway by throwing the fronds and debris on the grass but didn't clear anything from the pool or hot tub. They also didn't have clean towels -- only left dirty ones in the bin. I used room towels. The breakfast didn't work for me. The waffles were pre-made and had clusters of sugar in each bite. Breakfast was late each and every single day even though there were quite a few people waiting each morning at 6:30. The women running it put bowls, plates, and silverware out last and gave people the evil eye if they used a coffee cup to get food or took whole fruit while they were still setting up even if it was already 6:40 and people have to get to jobs. They clearly knew how long it took to set up and clearly planned to be late every day, I planned to use a gift card to pay for my room. I consciously chose residence inn to ensure a nice breakfast for family, AND has stayed at many other Residence Inns over the years. This one is subpar and i will not return. Moreover, i now question adopting Residence Inn as our default hotel and will start looking around for better -- with more consistent quality. Breakfast was terrible. Looked around and could not find single item i wanted to actually eat. Missing: eggs, sausage/bacon, potatoes. Instead tired, soggy, old breakfast sandwiches. I viewed a Hampton Inn tv commercial about competitors terrible breakfast offerings and I immediately thought of the newark residence inn. This is a tired hotel that is clearly cutting costs. The only thing that I was puzzled about when we first entered our room was encountering a wet floor towel draped over the tub. Appeared to me that housekeeping forgot to check that section of the bathroom prior to exiting. I removed the wet towel and left it on the side of floor. Luckily, there was an extra, clean floor towel. I placed it on the floor. For the most part, lodging at this location for one night worked for us. Pros include free parking. Quite a lot of parking available on the premises. We had a one bedroom that is separate from living area. Worked for me because I was the first one to sleep at night. We appreciate the complimentary breakfast. Dining area is smaller so area does get crowded quickly. I personally enjoyed making my own waffles and having some fresh fruits and/or various syrups in the morning before leaving premises. read more

ROACH hotel‼‼ Walked in on my second night to find a roach on the kitchen floor. First night toilet was backed up. Front desk could do nothing till morning. Iron board open half way and didn't close. Several Ceiling boards in hall outside room were torn the entire stay. Window screens were so torn like mice cuts. So disappointed in this stay was looking to stay a third but immediately checked out and just went to another hotel. Reported to roach and got no response until the next day after I checked out. We had a reservation from 05/22/20 - 05/25/2020. I called the hotel to ask them about the late check in as we were driving up from Los Angeles area and wanted to make sure we had a place to sleep for the night upon arrival. The staff member (I don't remember her name), asked me what time I would estimate my arrival. I said probably between 11pm-12pm, she said ok that's fine, but just to let me know that if I'm not checked in before 1am, then my reservation is considered cancelled. I said no problem, we will make sure we arrive closer to 11pm. She informed me that the doors will be locked and that the security guard will let us in to check in, and she will make a note on our reservation about the late check in. Everything sounded good so we ended the call. Well we drove up that night, arrived at 11:10pm on 05/22/20, and tried to check in. The security guard informed us that we cannot check in anymore because all the staff have already left. We informed the security guard that we had called and notified them about late check in and they told us it would be ok. They told us it was after 1am that reservations would be cancelled and it was 11:11pm when we spoke to the guard. He said there was nothing he could do and everyone had already left. Needless to say, this situation was beyond frustrating. Your selfish, irresponsible staff left me, my husband, and my two year old daughter without a place to stay for the night, despite my best efforts to inform the staff of our late check in and I had made sure that everything would be OK for us at the late hour. I understand it is a late check in, I understand staff are limited due to COVID-19. I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel! I rate it 4.5 stars! My room was clean and well decorated with a full kitchen. The breakfast was fantastic and you can even make your own waffles. I usually write detailed reviews but I think the photos speak for themselves on this one. I would absolutely recommend it if you're in the area. read more

I have been a business traveler for over twenty-two years, and I was anticipating a pleasant stay at this Residence Inn. After checking in on 4/15, I woke up the next day to find baby coach roaches on the bathroom floor and all over the kitchen counter. I contacted the front desk and was told I would have to wait another day to transfer to another room due to no vacancy. I spoke remotely with a manager who promised 20,000 reward miles would be added to my account to compensate for this incident. It has been close to a month, and I continue waiting for credit to my account after several emails to the hotel manager and customer service. I will cancel my Marriott Bonvoy membership, and I have instructed them to keep the reward points. What a disappointment for such a fine and outstanding organization! read more

I would leave zero stars if possible. This place is positively gross and unsanitary. We normally stay next door at the Courtyard Marriott. A couple times a year for business. Never stating here again. We were on the ground floor. When you walk in it smells like a sewer spill or a wet poopy dog. Those were the exact words I used to describe it to my husband. The back door that should require a card key is unlocked. And zero security. I felt unsafe going from our car to the room. Behind the property is a large community of unhoused residents. It feels very unsafe. The room had sticky kitchen and bathroom floors. Stained carpets. Leaky kitchen faucet. Smelled so grossly weird in the room. The worst part, I felt a weird itchy sensation the first night. I kept scratching my arm. The next night when I ran the dishwasher after wiping up all the leaky water... there were COCKROACHES on the counter.Disgusting. I seriously felt sick and wanted to leave. My husband was asleep and when I told him he was delirious saying he needed sleep. I did not sleep at all. I threw away anything that was out and our dogs fresh food and water. The thought of my dog on that disgusting floor made me sick. I called the front desk and told them that cockroaches were on our counter. They could have cared less. So disgusting and it caused me extreme anxiety. I'll call the Marriott Corporate now number in the morning. We are Titanium members and hopefully they will investigate the Newark Residence Inn. Regardless, anyone staying here should not have to deal with such disgusting conditions. Positively disgusting. I want to go home and take a shower after disposing of our personal belongings and anything from that disgusting room. GROSS read more

I've stayed at two Residence Inns and this was my favorite of the two. The front desk had knowledgable staff, and when my quarters got stuck in the laundry machine, someone was up there with me within 3 minutes to get my knew quarters and start my laundry. The breakfast is simple but filling, and I noticed rotating options which I appreciated. One unfortunate thing is that you have to walk around the walkway to the sidewalk to get up to the main door, which was a poor design. Parking is hard, as everyone drives in the area, and the parking lot is pretty small in the front. My room was quite clean everyday, with my dishes and accidental spill on my way out being cleaned up. Wifi worked for me, and for about a week's stay, I enjoyed my comfortable bed, warm showers and baths, and ease! read more

This hotel is conveniently located near I-880 and the Dunbarton Bridge, affording excellent access to both the Eastbay and the Peninsula. Although the furnishings are beginning to show some wear, the rooms are well-appointed and quite comfortable. The staff is very friendly and trained to accommodate the reasonable needs of their guests. We've stayed here several times over the last couple of years -- most recently over Labor Day Weekend (2018). We choose this property for it's relative proximity to grandkids and because it had a nice outdoor pool and a wonderful grilling and picnic area. Apparently we aren't the only ones who have discovered this reasonably priced weekend and holiday destination. The hotel was absolutely overrun by families with small kids. That was okay with us since we for the profile, but it was a stark contrast from the regular Silicon Valley business clientle one finds here during the work week. On a previous visit we hosted Christmas Dinner (2017) for ten in our two-bedroom suite. Ops Manager, Gustavo Perez accommodated our every need -- including an additional table and chairs from their meeting facility, and additional dinnerware and setups! The kitchen itself was well-equipped for the task -- featuring a full-sized refrigerator, four-burner stovetop, standard electric oven, microwave and sufficient cookware, serving bowls and kitchen utensils to get by. I brought my own knives to prep the meal and carve the turkey, but I would have managed to get by had I not done so. The double-sink and dishwasher made cleanup afterwards a cinch. That said, the dishwasher itself, though relatively new, was not properly mounted and like most hotel rooms built before the green craze and additional push for energy conservation, the lighting -- especially in the kitchen -- is wholly inadequate. The common facilities are lovely, including an exercise room, Jacuzzi, and previously mentioned outdoor pool and barbeque/picnic area which features a very nice had grill and plenty of outdoor seating! There's even a basketball court at the back of the property. Breakfast each morning was included in the price of the room -- a nice addition for families on weekends and during the holidays and a nice gesture for the regular business clientele that normally occupy this extended-stay hotel. In addition to the standard scrambled eggs, self-made waffles, oatmeal, fruit and various breads and cereals found in most extended-stay hotels, breakfast also included scrambled egg whites and enough health-conscious choices to please a vegetarian with moderate expectations. The weekday happy hour beer, wine and snacks served at the end of the day are also a nice touch. Overall, this is a very nice, well-managed hotel that would benefit from a thoughtful remodel to update the aging furnishings and lighting deficiencies not yet corrected. read more

3.75 stars We stayed here for an entire week since my husband was working in the Bay Area. We chose this hotel based on location and amenities. Keeping that in mind, here's the rundown: Pool was closed about 4/8 days we were here. Fortunately, a sister hotel was next door and we were able to use their pool. This was an inconvenience for us because the staff at the other hotel we encountered were trainees. One day I waited 10 minutes for the person at the front desk to get off the phone as I stood in front of her. After that I was questioned, practically interrogated as to why I was there trying to use their pool. We stayed in 2 different rooms (reason is, we payed a portion and hubby's company paid a portion). Our first room was great- on the 2nd floor. We asked to stay in that room since we had another reservation under my name, we are reward members, etc. They did NOT accommodate us. Now here's the reason why- "weekdays are busier than weekends and we are filled to capacity". WHAT???! Weekdays are busier than weekends? Really? Dear trainee at the front desk, do you even travel? Have you been outside of the city of Newark?! So, I didn't want to be confrontational at 9am I accepted what she said. Clearly she didn't give a crap and didn't know what she was talking about. We checked into a new room on the 3rd floor. Smelled like weed as soon as we walked in. Decided to deal with it because we didn't want to move our luggage for the 3rd time. Next morning room smelled like cigarettes. WTF? We do NOT smoke and truthfully I can't stand the smell! Again, back to the front desk to advise our room stinks and we will not pay a $250 fee for smoking fee. Trainee staff again acted like they could care less- both of them. Are there any veteran employees at this place who actually know that they work in hospitality???! Hospitality = customer service. Definitely needs improvement at this hotel. So there's the room situation and staff. I could go on but this is turning into a novel. On to the rest... Breakfast buffet- excellent selection of breakfast foods; scrambled & boiled eggs, waffles, selection of fruits, breads, bagels, oatmeal, milk, juices, coffee & teas, cereals, etc. People staying at the hotel acted like this was their last meal though so beware of the vultures! Morning staff were nice- always said good morning and kept the breakfast area stocked. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening receptions were a plus- free bevvy's including brand name beer, wine, sodas along with treats! This is a new service the Marriott hotels are doing and it's great! We've stayed at plenty of Marriotts and will continue to stay for the value and amenities. One must take into consideration the location to understand all of my gripes. read more

Residence Inn Newark. Hello neighbors, My family and I were staying at Residence Inn, in Newark last week while our home was getting a repair. On Friday morning at approx 5-515am, I heard a very loud noise outside my window. My window faced the side of the parking lot. When I looked out my window I saw a black small SUV tucked behind 2 cars. Then a man appeared wearing a black cap and all black clothing. Got a clear shot of his face. Wish I recorded or took a picture. I was too shook at this point because I new he was up to something. He leaned down on the ground near the front drivers side tire of a burgundy honda civic, grabbed something and returned back to the SUV. I was hiding at this point. When he returned, I slammed my window shut. Startled him but only for a second. He then proceeded to go to the silver Honda pilot that was parked right next to the honda civic. That loud noise started again and I banged on the window really loud. Trying to still hide from him. He got scared and left abruptly. I called the front desk and reported it. I also made a police report- gave all details of the person and his vehicle. The hotel didn't seem alarmed and they stated that the police spoke to the security at the hotel. Mind you, they said the security had chased them off the property and failed to get a license plate number. The office staff said that it isn't securities protical to contact police.? Wait...what? The police only came because I filed a report. Wth.. I checked out the hotel early and moved me and my kids from this place. I met a man (while packing my car to leave) who's work truck was parked across from mine whom also had his cadallitic converter stolen. I'm assuming that is what was being stolen from the vehicles I saw this person tampering with as well. So....Be warned about hotels nearby and the staff. You never know who could be involved in these crimes. I dislike being accusatory but it seems a bit fishy to me that they didn't contact the police and security didn't see this activity going on at 5am to hella cars....?!?! Fishy and alarming! I'm a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member which means I've stayed at a bunch of different Marriotts before. I use them while traveling, for my work conventions, and I usually always have a great experience. I've actually never had a bad experience until coming here. I had stayed at the Aloft who is also a Marriott member Easter weekend. I had a small dog with me, a 20lb french bull dog. When checking in with the manager and front desk, they were happy to have our dog there and everything was great aside from the fact that there was only one door to take him in and out of in the hotel, but no big deal. Then the following weekend, I decided to try the Residence Inn because it offered free breakfast and had more exits. When I checked in with my dog and while holding his bed, I chatted with the front desk gal. She mentioned she was from another hotel but as we talked about my dog, she mentioned nothing about a pet deposit, a cleaning fee, nothing. Again, the Aloft did not charge me a thing while staying there the week prior. But low and behold upon checkout I get a cleaning fee added. I do realize that the Marriott website might've mentioned this, but when booking a hotel, it doesn't ask you if you're bringing a pet, so I would've read nothing about any pet fee. But when I called the hotel to ask about it, I called 3x in one week to speak to the front desk manager. It was frustrating because I kept having to re-tell my story and the front desk manager was always "out" or busy. When I finally called again for the 4th time, and explained it again, I not only didn't receive an apology for having to call back 4 times, she really wasn't empathetic or friendly at all. She only sounded like a robot who referred me to a website and telling me this wasn't a deposit but a non-refundable cleaning fee. I immediately knew that she could care less about the fact that I had just stayed in a Marriott yards away and wasn't charged, she didn't care that I had to call back 4 times, and certainly could care less that I was a gold elite member. And the breakfast, was a complete joke. No milk, coffee, only a small brown bag with 3 unedible items. I should've stayed at the Aloft!!!! Horrible customer service!!! read more
