I've said it before, I'll say it again: Residence Inn is my favorite hotel chain. No, it's not the fanciest of them all, but I love the feeling of being in my own little apartment. Sure, there are other brands that offer "suites" but the layout of the rooms here is better-not like a slapped in kitchenette along a wall across from the bed. No, these are spaces that I could imagine myself living in. And that's fun for me. This location was just what I needed while I was in town for work and wanted to stay near my son so I could visit him too. The room and the breakfast area were both spotless and well maintained. I had a few brief interactions with the staff (mostly handled my check in/out on the app) and I can say that the folks here were very kind. The man that ran the breakfast area seems to love his job and the ladies at the front desk were fantastic as well. Thanks, Marriott, for continuing to keep a loyal, happy customer. read more

I'm very surprised to see such a low rating for this place. While in the Phoenix area for work, I was fortunate enough to stay at this location. From the outside it appears as if this place would be odd and outdated but I quickly learned differently as I entered. Staff: I was met by a wonderful human being, Muma! She was kind and happy on a rainy AZ day. I really enjoyed her. She was also efficient and very helpful. Parking:Ample free parking Location: near freeway, restaurants, gas and lots of other hotels Room: renovated! I was a little nervous when I walked into the building I was assigned to but when I opened the door to my room there was hardwood, updated kitchen and clean 2bdr. Like the coffee: sugar free vanilla and other syrups and oat milk as an option. Breakfast guy super friendly! Breakfast options include oatmeal with pecans, flaxseeds, cranberries, apricots, make your own waffles, English muffins, bagels, eggs, sausage, cut fruit, including cantaloupe. Tile floors in the dining area and coffee area were very sticky. Pool area are nice although no hot tub. The pool is outside. It's a very clean facility. Our room was functional, although missing a bit of art over the couch in my opinion. Also, I've never seen the back of a TV is part of the room decor. (Pictures included.) The building is not connected to the lobby, so you have to go outside to get back into the lobby. The room smelled. The ice maker didn't work. The essentials like dish soap and towels had to be requested. It takes forever to get hot water. Minor maintenance doesn't seem to be performed on a regular basis. The pool was filthy. When I asked a worker passing through the pool area if this is how the pool usually is he said yes but then radioed to another staff member. This is a good hotel if your doing long term stay. The room was huge. Like a private studio. I had a full size fridge, 2 burners a micro and even a dish washer. The TV swivels so you can watch on the little kitchen island, the couch and the bed. The free breakfast and free parking is a HUGE perk here. The breakfast isn't just a continental breakfast. They have eggs, breakfast meats, a waffle machine cereal oatmeal fruits and yogurt. Coffee and juice as well. One large issue I have with this hotel is the smell. It's smells like old wet dog or old clothes and very musty. My perfume would only mask it for a short time but every time I came into the room it was very strong. During a few days of my stay the door into our area the lock stopped working so they propped it open with a rock. Idk how that affects the safety as then people who didn't have a room in that building could now easily access the area. Not a bad hotel tho. A few little fixes and they could get higher ratings. read more

My coworker has stayed here when he visiting so I decided to stay here as well. It was a great choice. There are great places to eat in walking distance and is close to the airport but not so much that you get that noise. The room was super huge with kitchenette and a very comfortable bed. The service at the lobby was very fast and professional. The breakfast was amazing. We had just been back east for a long weekend/mini vacation and it was a waffle, bread and cereal was all they had. This place had an impressive spread. Everything was clean, from the room, hallways, lobbies, etc. It was a great stay for the price. read more

Staying at the Residence Inn by Marriott Phoenix Mesa Hotel in Mesa, Arizona for two nights with my parents turned out to be way more enjoyable than I expected. The whole place has this warm and relaxed feeling that makes it really easy to settle in, and I noticed right away how many teenagers were staying there too. It honestly makes sense because the hotel feels comfortable in a way that teenagers would enjoy a lot, especially with all the open spaces to hang out and the fun, friendly atmosphere around the property. I was surprised by how spacious everything felt, from the lobby to the outdoor areas, and it made walking around the hotel feel calm and unrushed. Even though it was my first time staying there, I didn't realize how much there was to appreciate until I explored a little bit. I really liked how simple it was to enjoy the stay without feeling pressured to be anywhere at a certain time. I never doubted that the experience would turn out the way I hoped it would. I've only stayed at this hotel once in my life before writing this review, but it ended up being one of the most comfortable and pleasant hotel experiences I've had in a long time. I would highly recommend that teenagers stay at this location because it gives them a place to relax, feel independent, and enjoy their time in a setting that feels welcoming and easygoing. read more

Updating my review for the following: The hotel did reach out to us twice during our short stay to check on our visit. +1 star for being proactive even though we didn't complain (maybe they saw my review). The shower water was nice and hot and the water pressure was superb. A hot shower and great water pressure can make a difference so that is definitely a plus. One more negative is that the entire floor we were on smelled heavily of weed. It was so strong it carried into our room through the ventilation. Not the hotel's fault but it was bothersome (allergies & asthma) and they need to enforce a no smoking policy or have a designated area for those that want herbal refreshment. I can see how this hotel might have been nice in the early 2000s. It isnt nice anymore. The carpet in the halls is dirty and gross the hallways AND BEDROOMS stink like stale cigarettes. The beds are small and hard. The walls in the rooms are dirty, the shower curtains have mold on them. I would recommend to not waste money here. We spent waaaaay too much for only 3 nights. We could've gone somewhere nicer and next time we will. read more

This is a bit of a split review - had some difficulty rating this property - so let me break it down and explain. We were in Phoenix visiting for a softball tournament and staying with the team at the Residence Inn property for three nights, from a Thursday through a Sunday. Overall it was a good stay, and we would recommend - with particular positive feedback and thank you to the General Manager, Lorena Martinez (who was sensational). The Bad News...(1) there was an awful/putrid smell in the hallway outside our room for 2 days which was disturbing (likely vomit) and took too long to be cleaned and resolved by management. And (2) while parked on the property, with my truck in the lot near our room, our window was smashed and someone broke in and "smashed and grabbed" and took off with a few items from my truck. It happened during broad daylight (likely around 10-11am) and was sadly not caught on the hotel video. Police and forensic came out and were wonderful, and we worked with the hotel (particularly Lorena) to contact police, file a report, etc. The Good News...the room was large, clean and great having a kitchen and desk and couch and was very comfortable. The property has a nice gym and pool and there were many good restaurant options in the area and convenient access to downtown Phoenix and the highway. Great central location, and walking distance to coffee and casual dining. Additionally, the help and kindness we received from Lorena, General Manager, was exceptional. She was very helpful with the truck break-in, professional and kind, and worked with my side by side to interact with the police, temporarily repair the car, and help us in any way she reasonably could to deal with an unfortunate situation. Lorena was great and I highly recommend and appreciate her and all she did to improve the frustrating circumstances. So...given the above, it was a 4-star experience...averaging out some aspects which were a 2/3 and other aspects that were a 5. read more

Hotel and service was good, front desk not so good. They charge me an extra $139.00 for no reason, after paid all in my check out and on the right day. They state that it was a cancellation fee for another room associated in my name. WRONG!! I only reserved a room and and check out on time and paid in full before going out. I called and the lady was kind of rude and didn't listen on my case. Manager refused to talk to me. We was in a baseball group and got like 10 rooms for a week. This is not fair. read more

A pretty standard experience, but slightly better than average. Being PLATINUM Rewards, I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite....too bad we were only here for one night...lol. This property offers desserts several nights a week, and on the night we were here, I got to satisfy my sweet tooth with various cheesecakes and chocolate chip cookies. Not very clean - when I arrived in my room, the first things I noticed were the large stain on the bedroom carpet and another large stain on the bedskirt. In the morning, I noticed another stain in the coffee pot from a previous use. Yuck. Also, as a gold elite member, at every other Marriott property I have ever stayed, I have received 2 pm checkout, which is a guaranteed benefit of gold status. I was refused late checkout at this location, and met with rudeness and unwillingness to help by the front desk staff. Would absolutely not return to this location. read more

This is a real nice hotel...extended stay if you prefer. I've stayed here all week, uneventful...no problems. The complex consists of 3 buildings...all require pass key to enter. I like that. The grounds are well maintained, fenced (tastefully done), and the pool/spa area is real cool, plus there is a gas BBQ which many folks have been using this week...!!! The pool is really nice, not overly large, but cool and clean. It is not over bearing with chemicals...thank goodness. There is a fitness room and it is equipped with some good cardio equipment plus weights and a stationary bicycle. The room however is quite small and cramped...I felt in need of "more air". While my suite had a full kitchen and dining room, I did go enjoy the complementary breakfast one morning. It was tasty and the selections were plenty. My suite was very nice, warm and inviting, and very comfortable. My bed was perfect, as were all six pillows. A real good sleep here...!!! I have no real complaints, and will stay here on my next business trip to Phoenix. Why not 5 stars? I don't really have any answer, except it must be "exceptional" and earned...they are almost there, just not yet. read more

My main issue: I checked out on Sunday after a five day stay @ Residence Inn Mesa, Az. I realized almost immediately I left my own pots and pans in the dishwasher. While in route home (same day) I called hotel to inform them. I'm thinking this would be easy-peasy! WRONGI I spent a week making calls/leaving messages with the front desk staff. Left 3 voicemails for Manager "Lorena" filed. a complaint with Marriott Corporate and sent an email to "the person in charge" a week later get an email response " from Manager Lorena stating: your items haven't been found". So....Someone on their staff stole my new set of Curtis Stone pots/pans/lid from the dishwasher in my room. Also, day one of check in I had to call Re: toilet not flushing. While waiting on maintenance I walked to main lobby (hotel entrance) to use facility's. The fourth evening same problem with toilet, although when I walked to main entrance around @11:30 pm all doors to entrance were shut down - my key card wouldn't work- even on gym side. I pressed the intercom button on exterior of entrance....waiting....10 minutes later...The gentleman working that evening proceeds to tell me he had some rowdy guest so he decides to lock down the main entrance! What about my safety? The Safety of your other guest? I wouldn't be out of my room if my toilet was working. Very disappointed in the Marriott staff at this hotel, I will NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. If you value your items and your safety STAY AWAY! 7/17/2018- Issues never resolved. Items never replaced- no points offered. I've stayed in many extended stay Marriot Hotels. So far this one is our least favorite. The was a dirty sock in our room, and a nasty stain on the side of the mattress. Usually Marriotts have a good breakfast variety. This one didn't have much to choose from, and their pineapple was completely brown. The coffee pot in the room didn't work correctly, and there is no flavored creamer here or complimentary water like there is at many other Marriotts. read more

Friendly staff, good breakfast for a short stay - they each get a star! We were given the ground floor room at the very end of the hall. The hall smelled and the room was old and not a large suite that others mentioned. Maybe this was the smallest 1 bd they have. They were sold out, no option to get another room. They charge $8.45 "bed tax" /night and of course city tax and state tax , total $193/night for a room not worth it. Rusty smudges in the shower that look like poop and sleeper sofa big enough for 2 kids max 12 years old with spring poking your back whole night. Really, Marriott? I stayed here overnight while working in AZ, the place is nice and cozy. Love the room it was more like a little studio than a regular room! The kitchen area had everything you needed if you stay here longer than a day! The room was nice and clean, they also have happy hours in which they offer a variety of different food thought out the week! Not bad at all, their breakfast had a variety of items to choose from! Noise, disrepair, bad cell in the area = "Welcome to your expensive dorm room for tonight!" Plus, this is a franchise, so you're not dealing with Marriott corporate - which doesn't mean what it used to, but still, they are independent - thus the repair issues and cheap construction. I'm Platinum with Marriott and don't like saying this, but look at the La Quinta next door (1/2 the price) or the Hilton a block away. This place is 50/50 for maintenance issues - PER the maintenance guy! He said they're fixing things all the time - leaking toilet and key cards that repeatedly didn't work were my 2 main issues. (Trip Advisor and Google reviews confirm this is a pattern and note the other negative reviews - this isn't just me!) Then...the noise. On top of changing rooms, multiple interruptions for repairs, they stick a couple crying kids across the hall. The doors and walls are wafer-thin, so just from walking the halls, you hear a lot of noise thru the doors. Grove Ave isn't super heavily traveled, but the window panes are thinner than the walls, so you'll hear every car and motorcycle that goes by....all night long. Then...if you try to make a call, you'll be lucky to have 2 bars (AT&T). You have to sign on wifi to do anything online. I wanted to go to the La Quinta, but after unpacking and re-packing twice, I was wiped out. I travel a lot, and stay mostly at Marriotts. This one ranks in the lower quadrant, for sure. Shoddy construction. Chewing gum repairs. Noisy on all sides. Franchise owners running it on the cheap. You may stay here and everything works fine and you have quiet neighbors and don't care about the road noise. Lucky you. Not what I had, so just wanted to let you know the other side of the coin so you can make a decision that best meets your needs. 50/50. Good luck! And oh, Mr/Ms. Manager...please don't respond with the typical blah, blah...we've informed our staff and hope you'll give us another chance BS. Your insincere words mean nothing. Shape up the hotel and let the work speak for itself over time. But I think this franchise operator is cheap...and there's nothing really more you can do with this place...so just ditch the unnecessary trying-to-look-good stuff and say...."yeah, we do the best we can to make a dollar from a dime." read more

Everything was great! we were driving into Phoenix, and planned to stay at the hotel we were 3 days previously, however it was 3 times the price and all hotels seemed to either be booked or were like $400 a night and we were getting panicky ! Something going on in Pheonix that day. We called Residence Inn in Mesa and PATTY answered the phone. What a godsend!! I cant speak highly enough about her. She was so warm, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Just what we needed as we were driving in the car trying to find a place to stay.We got a room that was better than either of the other hotels we had in Arizona , at a reasonable rate and were thrilled. A clean, two bedroom, two bathroom suite, amazing! Some front desk people put you on hold, take forever to give you the information and in the end it doesnt work out. Patty delivered exactly what she said on the phone. We arrived from Sedona after 8pm and all was well. Rooms were excellent, tv in each bedroom and one in the living room, full kitchen. Good buffet breakfast included (even brie cheese, really???) It was a little cool so we did not take advantage of the outdoor poor or hot tub. During a recent plumbing emergency, my homeowners insurance put my family up at this hotel. The outside areas are messy and have a lot of trash laying around, but the inside is well kept and seems clean. The rooms were clean, but during the pandemic you don't get cleaning daily. The rooms have no dishes of any kind so we had to bring our own to be able to drink, eat or cook. Okay, we can deal with that. They offer a breakfast: Breakfast was sad. My daughter came back with a cup of fruit that had fuzzy grapes. I couldn't even eat the bagel they brought me, it was so stale. Fine, I can do breakfast elsewhere... I went to the front desk to request service next day for cleaning after 5 days of being in the hotel. No service was completed the next day or the one after that. Due to a miscommunication between my insurance and the hotel, they did finally clean the room three days later. But this only happened because they thought we were checking out. During this service, the housekeeping staff removed our personal items. It wasn't much but there were items that had sentimental value. When I told the front desk the items were missing they apologized and said they would ask about the items. I received a call telling me they had been thrown away. Who throws away a coffee mug, dishes, other items? People forget things, what kind of policy is this? I was told their policy is that they are supposed to keep anything for at least 30 days, so why are they throwing away my dishes within hours of us being gone?? So upon this revelation, I went to ask the front desk what the next steps would be. They informed me they didn't know, they would need to talk to a manager. Took my information and... Crickets..... I heard nothing from the manager. So a week later I came back to the front desk, to ask what was going on. They took my information, I gave them the purchase values of the items that were removed. Again... Crickets.... I called again a few days later to be told they would be taking care of it same day and reimbursement would be mailed out that day. A week goes by... nothing again. I call again to be told, it was mailed Friday, a week+ after they said it was being taken care of. Why hasn't anyone reached out to me? Why am I having to fight so hard for you to make this right? Honestly, had you just given a rats ass to begin with I might have dropped the whole thing but now I am just mad. I just want to feel like you care about this but it's clear you don't. I am beyond frustrated. This is not how customer service should be handled. read more

Was going back and forth on how to rate the property as it not completely straightforward. Ultimately decided with a 5 because all concerns or issues were handled by the staff professionally. It's great because there are things for kids to do besides swim (putting green and basketball court). Plenty of good restaurant options in the area and convenient access to downtown Phoenix and the highway. Dirty and run down. Severely lacking service. Staff encountered were friendly but unable to assist. Had 2 bedroom suite for 4 adults and the kitchen was only outfitted with enough glasses and utensils for 3 people. No maid service unless you request the day before for the following day. Towels not replaced when left in hallway as directed. Garbage all over the parking lots and hallways. Only saw a cleaning person once. Literally. This place is dirty. We requested to move to a clean room and were told we had the last suite in the complex. I don't buy it. Several things in the room were broken. Drawers. Toilet flusher. Sinks drain slowly and we had to clean the funk ourselves in order to take a shower. The floors have been scrubbed and when I complained were told it was stains. Backup bedding had HAIR on it like they don't even change sheets. I'm not even kidding. The actual bedding appeared clean and beds were comfortable except the broken footings at the bottom. My adult daughter subbed her toe and cut it. We had the Continental breakfast and coffee each morning. The tables aren't cleaned in between guests so you have to clean yourself. But no cleaning products are left out. The staff only cleans after everyone is finished so you need to be the first person to eat to have a clean table. We ended up taking the food back to our room. The food was pretty good but ran low and they didn't replace fast enough so people just littered waiting. The coffee was constantly running out and there didn't seem to be a good system to refill it so people were lining up waiting. Often. Definitely don't recommend this hotel. We would've switched if we'd had time but went for family emergency. Very disappointed in this place. read more

We really liked this hotel! The room was very clean, and the staff were friendly. There is a pool and hot tub, which we made great use of. There's also some small putting greens and basketball court, which is probably a godsend for folks with kids. There is a free breakfast, which is not bad. There are some healthy-ish options. Monday through Wednesday they have a happy hour with free food and beer/wine. This was awesome! We loved that little touch. They have an outdoor area set up with a fireplace and some outdoor couches and string lights, which was a great spot for the happy hour. I knocked off a couple of stars because the staff member had a hard time splitting our bill when we checked out, and that took longer to resolve than it should have. Also, we were put in a room at the end of a hallway that was undergoing renovations, so everything was tarped up and a little less than ideal. read more

I stayed at this Marriott for 3 weeks in January. The customer service was great. The breakfast buffet they had every morning was good as well. The hotel seems secluded. However, it is in walking distance of a Chevy's, Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings and a great sports pub. There is also a mall nearby as well as a Border's, Best Buy and a Marshall's. It is near an interstate and about 25 minutes to downtown phoenix. read more

I stayed here for three nights for a business trip. The room itself was decent enough, a nice size with the feel of something that had recently been remodeled. However, the bed was positioned in such a way that a security light outside shone directly into my eyes as I tried to sleep- nothing that a few towels couldn't fix. The carpets were being cleaned during my stay, and this is the one thing that specifically knocked off a star in rating. They were cleaning in rooms that were being occupied by guests, and there's nothing like walking around on damp carpet the first thing in the morning. Also, they were cleaning hallways and stairwells without proper ventilation, so it felt as if you were walking through a chemically-enhanced steam room. The free breakfast was perfunctory and nothing special- everything came from either a box or the microwave. read more

The service and prices here were good. My room was nicer than most Residence Inns. I got a late check out which I needed as I was battling a flu and needed to rest through the morning before I got going. I told the maid on day one that the drain in my shower was slow and I was pleased to see they fixed that problem. read more

We had a great experience here. The staff was super friendly and helpful and our room was clean and comfortable. I didn't get to try their free breakfast but I'm sure it's your typical continental breakfast. The room was very spacious and had all the amenities I needed. They had a fridge, microwave, stove, iron/board, hair dryer and free wi-fi. The staff even gives a welcome bag with a thank you letter hand written. We only stayed one night at this establishment. But it was pretty good. Good: Clean, flat screen in "living room" area, comfy bed, free internet, complimentary breakfast. Bad: Wireless internet (couldn't get signal at all in our room) and they didn't have a cable in the room for me to plug in. We were tired and I didn't feel like seeing if they had one...so can't rate the overall internet honestly. Also having to go outside to get to the different "buildings" is kind of annoying when all of them appear to be joined (seems a hallway would not have been all that difficult). Stayed over the Holidays on two different nights. The second day we stayed we had to be moved to a different room. After a long drive and unpacking in the hotel we got ready for bed. On top of the comforter was a large yellow stain, not sure what it was. I thought it was just stained and washing didn't clean it correct. I pulled doff the cover and top sheet and on the bottom sheet was a large yellow stain matching what was on top of the comforter. The person at the desk was very nice and gave me keys to another room, but having to pack and unpack again was very inconvenient after a 8 hr drive. Breakfast in the morning could have been better. I must have gotten there at the wrong time, there was some kind of kids team there and most of the food was gone and hadn't been refilled. shit hole hotel place is a dump and way over priced not enough parking for even half of the units 10/10 would recommend motel 6 instead

Only stayed one night, got in late. Room felt very tired and 'dirty'. A/C was loud and difficult to be anything other really cold or too hot. Was welcomed by a dog outside the exit door in the morning that reminded me of the 'Yo Quiero Taco Bell' dog. Seemed fitting. Staff this morning was friendly and engaging. read more

Stayed here a week while in Tempe on business and was very happy with the service and amenities here. The staff is EXCELLENT. They always greeted me with a smile and were so helpful providing me shuttle service back and forth from work and the airport. The breakfast is great - eggs, rotating meat options, warm oatmeal with fresh fruit, juice, etc. They also had food at night for a couple of days out of the week, which was a nice thing to offer. The building has a nice rooftop deck with a pool that unfortunately I didn't pack for, but the sunsets and views up there were amazing even in the suffocating desert heat. It's a great location with tons of restaurants nearby and my room had a nice kitchen set up (I didn't use it but I'd imagine if I were staying longer I definitely would!). Overall this is a great value and i'll definitely be staying here if I ever visit again! read more
