They are given water and food on regular schedules. We have adopted from Seattle Humane two times now. I would've given them 5 stars except for this policy of letting potential adopters take their time keeping a dog on hold while others wait. Here was our recent experience: We found, met, played with a dog that we instantly loved and would've adopted immediately. But we were told that these three sisters (or maybe they were friends) had put their name in ahead of us to visit with this same dog. However, this group of 3 girls also had put in their name to see two other dogs. So Seattle Humane told us we had to wait until these girls visited with all three dogs and then we had to wait until they made up their minds! There was NO TIME LIMIT for them to decide. We are experienced dog owners and have been for 50 years. We knew we wanted this particular dog. She was gentle, got along with kids and other dogs, etc etc. TWO HOURS LATER ( no exaggeration), those three girls decided they wanted the dog that we wanted. We were happy for them, but why did Seattle Humane waste our time? Why didn't they have time limits? These girls wanted to look at all three dogs. What if they wanted to look at 10? I asked if Seattle Humane could call us if the dog was available and we could go home and wait. They said no they don't do things like that. I'll always donate to them because of the animals. Not because of this idiotic policy of letting potential owners take their time. And btw, they don't vet potential owners like other rescues do. I wish they would for the sake of the animal.

if I could give zero stars I would…read more just so everyone knows, drugging their dogs is standard practice. the dog you meet with be high as a kite on trazadone so it doesn't behave as bad as it actually will when you get the dog home. then you are just stuck. bunch of liars misrepresenting the dogs with "animal behavior specialists" that pretend they want to make a good match when they are probably just the ones shoving drugs down the throats of the dogs. If they really gave a damn both the people and dogs then they would not drug the dogs like that and let people know who the dog really is. That way the dog can go to a home that wants to deal with their issues instead of hiding it. It's a medically induced bait and switch. I suspect it's all about % of dogs placed per month they have to hit for some sort of funding. And they'll do whatever it takes to hit that metric. Even if it means deceiving the people and pairing them with the wrong dog. Because what can you do? Return it?

Sammamish Animal Sanctuary has been on my radar for a minute. I was supposed to attend a goat yoga…read moreclass quite some time ago but had to cancel (boo) so I'm glad I got the chance to come back. My friend and I were trying to find a fun summer activity for the kids and brought up coming here, so we did. It's in a kind of random area in Renton, tucked away and definitely a hidden little gem if you don't already know about them. Parking lot is a tad small and only portable bathrooms are available, but they were clean and they had outdoor sinks for use. It's free to come here which is really cool, but definitely plan to bring at least $5 for animal food. Each pail costs that much, and all profits go back to keeping the farm running. You're able to buy shirts, stuffies, and some other small things as well. The staff are all really nice. They offered us a map which we kindly declined, as it's easy to just follow the path throughout the farm. You start off with looking at cute animals like different birds, bunnies, etc. They have a handful of mini horses that you're not supposed to feed as they can nip, but they were very social and literally came right to us. Of course we all had the most fun with the animals we could feed, which was mostly a variation of different goats. They have some of all sizes and they are all so sweet and have the cutest personalities. I also loved the highland cow, Daisy, but she kept her distance. We also loved the pigs! They also seemed so happy to see people and had their tails wagging. There is another fun area at the end that's essentially a petting zoo that you can walk into and hang out with the smaller goats while they play around and ask for food. One part that we didn't visit was at the far end that had some picnic tables and a small playground set. I'd say the max age for the playground was probably about 2, so I kept my kids away from over there, but it could be fun for the little ones! Overall this was a really fun find and really cool to see the work they're doing here. We'd definitely come back and support!

There were countless times when multiple volunteers (sometimes six or more) agreed that an animal needed medical attention, yet those concerns were ignored and dismissed by Diane and management. This was incredibly frustrating for those of us who spent significant time directly caring for these loving animals and witnessing their day-to-day condition, to later see them suffer and pass away.

Many people and organizations we encountered treat animals, especially dogs, as a transactional commodity they are entitled to buy and "own" at their discretion. Not True North. Their approach includes temperament testing the dogs, assessing what type of family may be the best fit for their needs, a thorough and highly detailed interview and application process for all prospective adopters, multiple meet and greets to ensure ideal placement, and extensive follow up after the dog has been homed. This process ensures that what's good for the family, but ultimately what's best for the dog, is the final outcome. While it is time consuming, and not all families are open to being held to this type of standard, personally we couldn't be happier with the outcome. The end result is a happy, well adjusted dog, expertly incorporated into a family who will work to give them the best life they deserve. Post placement we continue to be impressed with the practically 24 hour on call support and encouragement their officers provide and have on multiple occasions turned to them for guidance on how to ensure a happy and healthy home for our whole pack. The officers and board who run the organization are tireless in their efforts, spending nights and weekends dedicated to the rescue and the dogs they serve. Each team member we met was compassionate, professional, and dedicated advocate for GSDs and their welfare. Anyone considering adopting a GSD or looking for a worthwhile cause to support financially (they survive off donations as a non-profit!) I highly recommend True North!

They give accurate descriptions of their dogs because they want their dogs to truly fit in their new families. The fosters also train and help the dogs learn how to be a family member. Forgotten Dogs rescued our dog the day before she was going to be put down. She was overlooked at the animal shelter because she was cowering in the back of her cage, was droopy from having nursed puppies and she is a black dog. Her mid-section firmed up and she gained confidence and really blossomed with the security of her foster home. She is an incredible dog, cute, smart, and is very expressive. They require you to mask up before entering, but they provide them if you don't have one on hand. Whenever I'm able to walk a dog, I take them just a short trip up the road (less than 10 min) to Gas Works Park! I love that walkers are provided with a convenient little bag packed with treats, poop bags, and a water bowl. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the dogs and it especially helps in times when i'm missing my own pups! Sasha is the absolute sweetest girl ever. Sasha is what my heart needed. As a puppy she is very smart. Introducing to crate has been fairly well. Eating wow this girl can eat, run, do sprints around the house, yard and is super excited. I am too lol. I waited through a list of 8 people and when I got to the top i was randomly dropped to number 5 again. I waited again. the third time i was at the top, I went to the adoption center they said my name was nowhere on the list at all. it went on and on! I was there for 2 hours of this. I know that you are underfunded but really--why is this so bizarrely inept and broken? Just make a PAPER LIST and call us, like a restaurant hostess would do. We didn't adopt, but we will from a good organization. And the place we adopt from will also receive our donation money.

I was in a pretty helpless position as I was not due to be home for several days. My son came up with a great idea and checked online to see if our dog had been found and turned in to the RASKC. Sure enough, she was there. My wife went down the next morning, paid the fee and picked her up. She had been well treated, and we are very thankful that they found her and gave her a good safe place until we could come get her. My son said that she was so excited to see him. She cried and whined, and fell asleep in his arms in the car. Thank you very much
