We just stopped for beers and to see the hidden beer garden in back which is pretty cool. Some folks we met earlier on in our European travels told us about this place so we stopped in. The beer garden is wedged in between a church and an old wall - it is quite a fun setting. When we ordered beers despite the menu showing a few to choose from they only had one - the local beer that is everywhere and not my favorite. Another down side was that the servers were a bit brusk. We did not order food so I cannot comment on the quality. It is worth checking out the beer garden and don't forget to watch out for the pigeons (see attached photo). read more

Loved this spot so much we went twice while in Prague! Food and service were amazing. I wish I got the name of our curly haired waitress cuz she was the best - she recognized our return immediately and brought over a shot of plum wine to share with us. Is this one restaurant or is this a bunch of different restaurants in the same space? I don't know that we ever worked that out, but we entered, caught the waiters attention, and were seated at a table then brought menus. Menus in Czech, English, German and possibly Russian. Orders placed (avoid the white wine, it was awful) and food arrived in a reasonable time. I had the beef goulash which was pretty good. Decently plated and served with slices of bread/dumpling that went well with the rich sauce. My friend had the roast pork with dumplings and it was okay. Not great. This is a local place in the heart of touristy area. Somehow you'd think it might be yet another place full of tourists but you'd be surprised. Locals eat here and you'll get the experience of dining in a Czech restaurant pretty fully. Decent food, decent price - service is Eastern/Central European! As an American you might be taken back by the straight forward, short interactions but that's the way things work here. I'm not gonna give any negative points to the service because of that. It was precise, timely and you don't get a server over your head who asks "how's everything tasting". The menu is pretty extensive and has a whole bunch of meat and very few vegetarian options. As one should expect again in Eastern/Central Europe. We dined 6 people (6 entrees, 8 beers, 2 salads) and our check total came out to $110!!!! The prices are very good. The food was good and priced well but the service was terrible. We had a reservation and upon arrival we were sat outside where it was crowded and confusing. After ordering the drinks before dinner upon being served rather rudely by the waitress, we were told it was cash only. I went back inside and asked the guy who directed us outside and he said while he did not know about the patio, inside they accepted credit cards. While they are the same restaurant apparently two different billing systems. So I asked to eat inside and we paid cash for the drinks and went inside and ordered from the same menu and were able to pay by credit card. Pilsner Urquell! This is the first bar in Czech Republic to ever serve Pilsner Urquell! They've been open since 1843. Since they've been pouring Pilsner Urquell for so long, they know what they're doing- how to pour it, how to make you feel comfortable. I came in to a busy bar, standing room only, and got the house beer- Urquell, served in heavy glasses with handles. The bartender wasn't exactly friendly, but I got a cold one in no time. This place just looks historic! I like the restrooms, where you have to hike down a steep staircase, where there's a single table for 2 set up in the staircase. Weird. The other cool thing is that someone mints coins for this place, where you can forever commemorate your visit numismatically! The beer was cheap- this is not really a place for tourists, it seems. But the people were nice and friendly! I had a great time here. It's great to see a bar that made it because of the best beer in the country! read more

I was told by a local to come here for authentic Czech/Bohemia food that was well priced. It is in Prague 1 which in itself is very touristy so if you want to avoid the crowds then good luck. I was here on a Friday evening and the it had more locals than it did tourist. It is worth a visit and the food here is rest. I had the deer goulash, cabbage salad with fresh horse radish, bread dumplings and Pilsner Urquell. I am one that is open to trying new things and found that I just don't care much for eating Bambi but if deer is your thing than do it. I should have had the beef goulash instead but at any rate the cabbage salad was amazing and the dumplings were so so good! Oh plus they brought out a basket of bread as well. So all this cost me a total of $11 USD. Cheapest meal in Europe yet!!!! What I liked about this place is not only do they have an expansive menu in several languages and that the employees here are sweet I love that there is a NON-SMOKING AREA! YES!!!!!! Something that I have found a problem with in Eastern Europe is that everyone smokes in bars and sometimes restaurants which me having asthma makes it uncomfortable and then you walk out smelling like an ashtray. It's disgusting so Kudos to these people for accommodating folks like myself. It's also good for families as well! If you are up to a little walk and would like a crafted cocktail then look up Hemingway Bar... Apparently the crafted cocktail scene is just now hitting Europe and more and more spots are coming up with some crafty ideas to making cocktails. I can say that I have had a better Sazerac, Old Fashion and a classic Whisky Sour in Prague than I have at some of my favorite bars back in the states. read more

This place, though the average traditional Czech cuisine, is a must-visit for tourists. Pilsner is served from a traditntal draft, yielding the full Czech experience. I had the chicken with veggies because I was dealing with some jet-lag stomach, but it went down easy with a brew. The atmosphere is great for big gatherings, and the service is kind and efficient. The food here is fantastic - had the goulash, spicy sausage, and the free flowing beer. The spicy sausage was absolutely fantastic. The goulash was well cooked and of good quality. Even the bread was really good. We enjoyed the open air atmosphere in the outside. That said, the food was five star and the service was two star at best. It took forever for refills and when we asked for a split check they refused our cards and made us pay cash. They were quite snippy about it, which was disappointing. It turned a four star review into a three star review. Good food if you're willing to put up with the service. read more

Cash Only! The Beef and Bread Pudding was awful. Overcooked meat and inedible with salty sauce. This dish tasted the same no matter what restaurant I had it. I would try it once and AVOID if it's not for you. The pork knee however was the best in Prague. After spending $50 on the wood grilled salty ham and sauerkraut potatoes next to the clock tower this pork knee was a bargain. The skin was nice a juicy, no hair, fat nicely rendered out, and meat was moist and delectable. This is a MUST EAT while in Prague! read more

If being a little hard to find is a bad thing then yes, that is my only complaint. We had the pickled cheese, beef with dumplings, and the smoked pork neck with potato pancakes. The pickled cheese was amazing!!! The pork neck is worth coming back for and the rest is simply fantastic. The service is quick and very polite, they seem to have enough room at any time of day. It's more for tourists who are looking for a rather cheap place where they can taste local meals in the centre. On the way out, puzzled, we asked the waiter if we could sit. We did not eat, so I can't say anything about the food. We sat in the bar section (where smoking is allowed). Perfect bar if you like a place that's rustic, authentic and not so extremely anxious about service. We found most bars in Prague to be either very annoying with falling over drunk tourists, or suffer from very slow and anxious table service. This has neither. Just cheap beer on tap, nice relaxed atmosphere, and some kind of czech punk in the background. The bartender delivers beers swiftly and keeps them coming, so you can actually get drunk (whilst not, hopefully, falling over) and not have to wait around forever for service. If you're just looking to drink Pilsner Urquell and talk, this is the place to go. Don't expect american type service nor anything fancy. read more

Staff is rude, arogant and it seems that they just don´t like the work with people (which is bad in this business). This place is worth a stop! Lovely outdoor seating courtyard. Fast service and great food. We had the beef tartar - yum! Nicely seasoned and served with toast and garlic cloves - rub the cloves on the bread, spread the tartare like pate and enjoy! Also had the fried cheese to go with it. Pretty cool Czech restaurant located in a few minutes from Vaclavske namesti. With average prices and tasty (and as usual heavy, except of salads) Czech food. The service is standard, the food and drinks are served rather fast; however, waiters don't bother to look friendly or smile. The atmosphere is nevertheless nice and loud, it is a typical Czech pub with many famous Czech dishes to try. This restaurant was introduced to me during a brief tour guide of Prague on my second day there. The lady had mentioned that it's one of the oldest restaurant in Prague with also one of the best beers and authentic Czech dish, so naturally I had to try it. I came here on a rainy afternoon and it was kind of tricky once inside. There's a restaurant on the first floor and top floor and this one is one the top floor. Definitely a cozy atmosphere but not a bad vibe. I got a window seating by the cute flower boxes :-) my boyfriend and I ordered the quarter duck that comes with dumplings and two types of cabbages, for starters I got the spicy sausage and he got tripe soup which we both really enjoyed. Beware that quarter duck felt like a half duck and will fill you up quick! I wasn't a big fan of the cabbage here compared to other places, it was a bit too mushy for my taste and very very sweet tasting.
