I would have given 5 stars but i couldn't due to the waitress. They had a special of crab stuffed salmon over rice with asparagus covered in a crab bisque and i have to say, this was my FIRST time in Mocksville and the food was SO GOOD! Now the waitress was ridiculous. A tall thin lady. She was not nice and the vibe she gave off was not friendly. As i sat there and watched the bar tender, a man with a reddish beard, he was so attentive and friendly to his guest and i was so sad that he wasn't our waiter. She didn't make eye contact. I am a full adult and I'm not sure if i should feel this way but for whatever reason, she acted as if it was hard to have conversation with me. She kept looking at my friend asking for confirmation. My friend finished her food, i didn't. My plate almost full, she looks at my friend and asked her if she needed a box. Um, ma'am, I'm sitting right here and i am fully capable of answering any questions that you have. I felt insulted. Food has always been good. However, they have not adjusted well to the new norm. I've attempted to order takeout the last 3 weekends but the number rang busy 15-20 minutes straight each time. Me and my girlfriend went here for dinner upon my recommendation because I have been there many times before. However the food was not up to the standards that they are known for. We started with the crab dip and for the entrees she ordered shrimp and grits and I had steak with a baked potato. Where do we start. The crab dip was runny and flavorless. The pita bread that is was served with was good but not very useful if the dip is bad. The shrimp and grits were also very runny. It was more like cream of wheat and had about the same flavor which was none. My steak was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor, but the baked potato was way overcooked. So much so that the inside of the potato was brown. When the owner came by and was told of the issues with the grits her response was ... well that's why we gave you a spoon. Not a good way to answer that question. I have ran many kitchens in my day and have been the head chef. The owner needs to be on top of quality control of what is leaving that kitchen. read more

Great place great menu great outdoor seating which is where I sat with both my Giant Schnauzers'. I had the hamburger with tomato bisque soup which was delicious. We love this place. Always great food and service. Try the peel and eat shrimp. Best ever. Last night we sat at bar and loved the bartender. She was super fun and awesome. We had hot pork skins appetizer. You have to try these. Omg. The meatball appetizer yummy and we shared the sirloin steak salmon shrimp cake special. My husband is still ranting that they gave him filet over sirloin it was so good. We couldn't finish the meal and have leftovers for lunch. 3 drinks too all for $50. I was so excited when this place opened. We have been a total of three times, this being the last. The service has been awful each and every time. This appears to be a family business and the Mother is very rude. I have been with different people and everyone agrees they are rude. The food is passable but needs attention, it was very good the first visit but has gone down hill. The service has never been good but they seem to be getting ruder each time. I really was surprised how long it took to get a waitress and get our drinks not to mention the hour and a half it took to get our food. They have been extremely rude each visit, from ignoring us so they could talk poorly about customers at a table in the next room to out and out sneering. I hate, hate giving a business a bad review especially something that is family run but they really need to change some things. I sincerely hope they can turn this around, it is in a great location and the decor is nice. read more

I've been coming here for lunch a few times a year as I have a client within walking distance to the building. The building itself is quite old and the interior is reminiscent of an old pharmacy, soda shop, or country store. The service has always been great and the staff seem to enjoy their jobs. They serve a variety of American country food but have some "culture" in the form of teriyaki or buffalo sauce. Their fried mushroom caps are really tasty as are the zucchini. Burgers are good, not great. Wraps are good as well. I've not yet tried other items as I'm generally not looking for more than that for a lunch. They do have a full bar if you're looking for something more along the lines of a liquid lunch. It's clean inside but it's vintage more than modern which is nice. Food is better than what I expected in general. Definitely worth a visit if you find a reason the be in this small, sleepy town. read more

This was our second visit to Restaurant 101, our first visit was a celebration dinner but we were on dietary restrictions so were only able to order grilled chicken with vegetables. We weren't too impressed with it though, the chicken was good but super greasy and the vegetables were soaked in oil. So if you want to eat something healthy I would not recommend that. Everyone else in our party raved about how good their food was though so we decided to go here for the next time we all got together. I was excited to see they had fried zucchini, but honestly I wouldn't order it again. It had large clumps of batter all over it and it didn't stay on the zucchini spears at all. I got the Garlic Bacon Burger for my meal and it was huge! I didn't eat it all but I wish I could've because it was one of the better burgers I've gotten at a restaurant like this. My fries were huge and seasoned nicely. It was a lot of food for $7. I also got Hershey Bar cake and wow, was it good! You definitely need to try it if you are getting desert. The boyfriend got a full rack of ribs and a baked potato with bacon and cheese. He said the ribs were above average (also a large portion) and the baked potato was really good. The atmosphere is awesome, especially if you like historic places and that small town feel. Our waitress was very attentive with refilling drinks and getting rid of plates but she wasn't super helpful. I asked 2 questions about items on the menu and both times she just gave me an "I don't know" instead of offering to find out. We will probably continue to go especially when we want something different from the standard chain type restaurants. read more

Service is always bad. Slow and usually unwelcoming. We have stopped coming here because the servers seem to ignore you if they aren't your personal friends. We haven't had the opportunity to try all the food we've wanted because we cannot get served enough to do so. When you wait so long to be recognized you lose interest in returning more than a few times so we just stopped. read more

I took six family members to dine there and found a live roach running around in my salad. All six members of my party saw the live roach running around in my salad. I stabbed the roach with my fork and told the server when he came to my table. I showed him the dead roach in my salad as he searched the salad and found the roach. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told the manager wasn't there. When we left the restaurant and paid the bill they were hesitant about taking the salad off the bill. They did however delete the salad from the bill. I chose to go to this restaurant and was embarrassed that I chose this restaurant because after finding a live roach in my food there was no one in my party that didn't want to immediately leave. They had already ordered their food so they decided to stay. I however did not eat anything I ordered after I took a bite of a salad with a live roach in it. We have been going here for years. Mocksville has almost no decent places to eat so our choices are always slim. The food is always good but my main issue is the managers attitude. She is by far the rudest person I've ever met in such a setting. There have been several times we have been overlooked while waiting for a table. And if we ask how much longer it will be for a table, she always has an attitude about it. As if we are bothering her by asking. Also, the wait staff is in no hurry to do anything. There have been several occasions where we were seated and waited a good 10 minutes before we were acknowledged and even got menus. Not to mention the manager would keep looking right at our table and clearly see we are waiting and turn to purposely ignore us. We typically end up having to flag someone down. Overall it's not worth your time to eat there. read more

Great location and great atmosphere! I love the old historic details in this place. There is quite a bit on the menu and the prices are reasonable but I've just never been overly impressed with anything I've ordered. The beer selection is pretty good if you like something a little different. I once saw this resturant rented out for a wedding reception. It looked awesome. Update to previous review. We have in the last 4 or 5 months discovered the fish and chips. Don't know where they get their fish from but we've never had fresher tasting fish except right off the boat at the coast. Honestly we've had it probably 8 or 9 times in the last several weeks. It never changes-it always tastes exactly the same... fresh and hot as the surface of the sun when it gets to the table. The other food is great as well but we seem to always get the fish and chips. The bang bang shrimp is also fantastic and we usually get that for an appetizer. The sweet potato fries are a work of art as well. For most of the summer we've eaten outside and can't wait till the fall weather to keep on doing the same thing. We always leave stuffed and happy and are always treated like royalty. What a great asset Mocksville has! read more
