The food was delicious. I thought by the name it would be more fancy. It is definitely a place you can take children.

First time I was there it was new I thought this place is ok. I went back and wow what a change. Their burger with egg is awesome the fries outstanding. That sausage burger, onion rings and pretzel all good to go. Their craft beers are a bit pricey for the area, but decent selection. read more

Sat at the bar and when the bartender who was being friendly with other patrons looked at me he gave me several rude "disapproving " looks .:.. as I tried to order he rolled his eyes and sighed !!! It's a burger place.....GOURMET BURGERS. The mixture of flavors, spices, cheese and type roll make it the Taj Majhal of burger joints. My number one must do there ANCHOVY FRIES... This is a nice place to go for a burger, a beer, and fries. Burgers *are* cooked as requested, but my mother-in-law and I ordered the same type of burger to different done-ness, and our server forgot which burger was which. I ended up with the "wrong" order, which was still delicious. Our server also didn't ask us about our meal and appeared to be a little bit tired. The bun was very nice, as were the fries. The beer selection, both draft and bottles, was eclectic and extensive. The primary drawback of the meal was that my husband's burger had a small piece of bone in it. The bone would have been undetectable to the chef, because in order to make a proper burger (or meatballs, actually), you need to handle ground beef as little as possible in order to keep it tender. It wasn't the kitchen's fault. We were shocked because the butcher has a good reputation in the Dover. I'm reluctant to mention it, because this is a very nice place and we would hate to see it develop a bad reputation and go under. But I can only give the place 3 stars. read more

Always heard of this place but never tried before. We were seated quickly - busy Saturday night and since there is limited seating I was pleasantly surprised. My son and I split the pretzel appetizer which was good. He built his own burger and loved it! I got the Santa Fe burger and I liked it as well. We got cupcakes for dessert. Mine was red velvet and the flavor was good but it was a tad dry. My son got a PBJ and liked it. Will visit again. Portions good, server good as well considering they were pretty busy. read more

Best burger I've ever had! Went with my family last night. It was very busy but we were seated quickly. Our server was amazing! She was very attentive and never let our drinks get less than half full. We ordered Old Bay wings for our appetizer...so crispy and delicious and cooked to perfection! We each ordered a different burger. Each was cooked perfectly and served with a generous portion of delicious, fresh fries. Also worth noting their sweet iced tea was great and the kids loved the fresh squeezed lemonade. After our delicious meal, we ordered yummy cupcakes to go as we were stuffed! I didnt have very high expectations going in but it was cozier and the food was better than expected. :) I did have to ask for some ketchup and mustard to add to the cheeseburger soup to give it the typical flavor... otherwise just tasted like cheesy beef soup but other than that our food was good. read more

Stopped in here back in April 2016 while visited my mom. The crab burger was very good. Came back last week and had the scrapple apple burger. Hands down the best burger I've had all year!!!! And it gave me my fix of scrapple I miss son much living on the west coast. Next time we're back in Delaware, we will definitely be stopping into the restaurant!!!!! read more

Many locals have recommended this restaurant to me since I moved to this area. My husband and I decided to try it the other day (7/21/16)for our son's birthday celebration and it was very disappointing as it did NOT live up to all the hype. We all ordered their signature burger well done but none of our sandwiches were cooked to this temperature plus they were bland & flavorless. The burgers were also huge which would have been a bonus if the taste wasn't so lacking. Also I found on my burger/bun a spot of some gooey brown sludge looking stuff that looked like they scraped grease off the grill & put it on my sandwich! That was the part that I was so over the place! Also the atmosphere is very dark & crowded & my family had a hard time even conversing over the noise. The menu is also pricey for burgers. Love this place...but NEVER go here on a Sunday. They are out of everything and don't bother telling you until 15 minutes after you order.

We stop in often for our Wednesday "Eat Out" nights. We sit at the bar and hope the bartender is the younger guy who is polite, efficient, and real. (The old guy is dismissive, rude, and would rather wash glasses and serve only people he knows). I love the turkey croquettes! REAL turkey, REAL mashed potatoes in ample servings, while my partner orders the Salmon Caesar Salad. Great dressing! The atmosphere is pretty low key during the week but loud and very busy on the weekends. This is a plain local hideout with good basic food choices, and staff that is friendly in a Dover kind of way. Which means they won't go out of their way, but if you are friendly, they are, too. read more

Start off the food was good. 1 star because service was terrible. It was relatively empty restaurant. It took us over an hour to get our food. A member in our party had to leave to avoid being late from lunch. She took it to go but didn't get to eat nor will have the chance. The rest of us finally got our food and it was wrong. So waited over and hour for a burger to be messed up. Everyone that came in after us got their food before us and correct. I complained and manager never came over to apology. They still charge me for the wrong food even though I never got it. The food was good but I was annoyed about everything else didn't really enjoyed. I paid $20 for to be annoyed. No offense to Dover, but I didn't think there were places this hip and foodie-oriented within a 50-mile radius. Restaurant 55 features ingenious menu items, including fried artichoke hearts, stuffed meatloaf, and of course, burgers (veggie options included!). The place has a lot of energy but isn't overwhelming. I wouldn't describe it as intimate in the least, but it would be a fun date atmosphere. Our waitress was really friendly and service was excellent. I ordered the tuna salad and the portion was enormous - two big slabs of tuna on an enormous bed of mixed greens with avocado. The sesame ginger dressing was light and flavorful. We had the chef's sample flight of beer which was delightful and featured interesting holiday brews. The pickled beets as a side dish were lovely. Great craft beers and burgers. This is my favorite local place to eat. They always have around a dozen craft beers on tap including 3 dogfish. I've never had a bad meal here and have probably tried at least 50% of the menu, but overall I recommend trying one of their weekly specials and if the scrapple apple burger is a special don't pass it up. The fries are great and the Sunday half price wings are a good deal too. Good service, good management, and all around good people. Try it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

The food here is awesome! I had the steak melt sandwich and my husband had a sandwich that I can't remember the exact name for but was described as a tower of meats and they weren't lying! This sandwich was giant! The ceaser salad was really greay and their fries are also pretty awesome! The steak melt could use more seasoning but with the Asus sauce it was delicious! Valentine's Day and they had this special- Salmon with a hollandaise sauce. AMAZING! This meal was perfect with the creamy rice under it and the surprise crab in the middle. Sorry all you 5 reviewers I've had better burgers elsewhere. Positives....the meat is fresh, and ground daily by a local butcher shop, the portions huge. A wide variety of burgers, & craft beers. Negative....the parking lot is super small, and competes with a very popular sea food restaurant, and a pizza place so parking is very limited! The resturant itself is tight. The tables are small, and close together. Very loud, & noisy. I found it difficult to hold a conversation with the people I was with. It's basically a place for 20-30 year olds. First of all, I would rate this restaurant zero stars, if I could. My husband and I took a weekend trip to Dover and had read great reviews about this restaurant and decided to stop in for dinner. We were relieved to see they weren't that busy and that we got a table right away. No one came by to check on us after about 15 minutes. My husband waved down a woman, who appeared to be a manager or owner, and asked her when someone would come to our table and at least take our drinks order. She told us our waiter would be right with us. Another 10 minutes passed and now we're angry. My husband asked the hostess when we'd get service. At that moment, a man appeared, walked by us and as he walked by us he said "I'll be right with you." He took another table's order and then went to a different table and brought that table extra napkins. At that point, we walked out. We are an interracial couple, married over 30 years. We believe that is why this happened to us and thought we'd share this story with you. read more

Awesome stop! Cheeseburger soup was decadent as were the meatballs. My son (and we) enjoyed the turkey croquettes, and the 55 salad, one with burger meat & the other with turkey.
