Got one of the last time slots for dinner and the food came out timely and tasted great. Staff was quick and we wanted to make sure we don't keep them too long as we were the last table of the night. We were sat at the top deck and the lighting stringed on the tree gave off a nice relaxed atmosphere. A very good date night feeling. Started off with three appetizers: the octopus, ceviche, and calamari. The flavors were amazing - the ceviche was definitely my favorite. The breading on the calamari was also well rounded. Dinner was mussels and the clam linguine. The pot was filled with muscles, more than I thought we'd get. The linguine hit the spot, the sauce was buttery and the noodles the right amount of al dente. Waitress was rude, short with us and unhelpful. We didn't get any refills on water throughout the dinner. I also specifically asked for no cheese on my burger because I get sick from it and it accidentally came with cheese. When I asked them to remake it without cheese instead of actually taking the time to make a new burger they just scraped off the cheese which is really not sanitary and not safe and unprofessional. We were staying at the Sunset Beach Hotel, and one of the highlights of our stay was dining at the hotel's restaurant. Not only was it conveniently located, but it also offered stunning views of the bay area. Watching the sunset while enjoying our dinner was truly a memorable experience. However, the food experience had its ups and downs. The steaks we ordered were quite small and came at very high prices. In fact, most of the food and drinks we ordered seemed surprisingly expensive, especially considering we weren't in Southampton. Perhaps the restaurant assumed all seaside destinations are like Southampton in terms of pricing. That said, the quality of the food was good, and the service was attentive and friendly, aside from the prices, everything else was satisfactory. For a future visit, I think I would take a ferry over to Greenport and dine there instead. The views are equally beautiful, and I believe it might offer a better value for the experience. read more

I went for lunch with a big group of girlfriends and we loved it! I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, fresh food, the prompt service, and the drinks from the bar. I had a drink called the "Tu Casa" that was most refreshing. I will return again next summer as it is one of the most memorable meals from my summer. read more

Ghastly overpriced, poorly managed, and staffed by untrained servers wearing merch promoting the property, come to eat here at your own risk! One of the biggest letdowns is how dreadful the staff is at (not) delivering the promise of an upscale dining experience at eye popping prices. $29 for an artichoke? $17 for an embarrassment "side" of sugar peas? $53 for the smallest pieces of swordfish I've ever seen? $32 for a burger which resembled a poorly made Big Mac (which came with a shallow tin of "frites")? Oh, and a (retail $19) bottle of "Whispering Angel" for $105?? This place has traded on the blessing of its location for years -- Crescent "Sunset" Beach is undeniably a place where you want to be to witness the wonderful sunsets on Shelter Island. However the annual influx of rabid influencer-culture at this restaurant has given license to a greedy management to charge ridiculous prices for comical portions and ill-prepared dishes -- with a front of house run by an incompetent staff that marches around the dining room all night not knowing what it is they are supposed to be doing. Once you walk in, what you see isn't what you get. There's an inside area, a rooftop deck, and an outside patio. The group made reservations for 2 p.m., and we had a fairly large party (around 10 people), and they had it ready for us. At first, our waiter service wasn't that great. They kept forgetting stuff for the table, but later on, it got better. We ordered a lot for the table, and each had our own entree. Oysters for the table, artichokes, hot mussels, asparagus, tartares, and a bunch of good pickles. I was able to get a bit of the linguine alle vongole and ate the entire or whole branzino. I ate the fish clean off the plate, and only the bones were left. For drinks, we got this orange alcoholic beverage for the entire table. I don't recall the name of it, but it was very refreshing. We drank two of those pitchers clean. They gave the table frose's on the house. I enjoyed it!. All in all, it was a bit pricey, but since it's right by the beach and the ambiance people pay for that. read more

The sunset view (hence the name) from the second floor dining area can't be beat, they are dog friendly, and the food is pretty good. Service is just ok, but overall I think it's a solid place to go for something different when you're out east. This was an interesting scene. It is extremely pricy for ok food and drink, but you definitely come for the views, vibes, and people watching. We didn't have a reservation but the bar is first come first serve. We got a cocktail which was a bit watered down. We also got the tuna tartare which was tasty although only came with 4 chips to accompany it. The sunset was gorgeous and highly recommend coming around sunset to maximize your experience. The service was not the warmest and it took a while to track them down to order and to pay because it's so busy. At the end of the night, the valet folks gave us the wrong car. Such a tough review. 4 star for food but everything else was pretty awful. Arrived early for a 6pm reservation, as not to be late. Sign at hostess station says "lunch starts at 12.. dinner starts at 6pm"... That apparently means lunch stops at some time and you can't get seated until 6 for dinner. The hostesses really couldn't be bothered. They were running around like it was high school, just seemingly roaming around to hang out and play and dodging customers. I saw alot of staff joking and laughing while customers went unattended. Service was awful. Guess everyone is off duty between lunch and dinner? Hostess suggested we drink while waiting. Told us there were two bars. The upstairs one was tiny and jammed. Went to the lower bar per her suggestion. 5 guys standing behind it, doing nothing but chatting. Finally took a bus boy to acknowledge me and tell me this bar was closed. And it took him 3 tries to get the attention of the guys to confirm that. Just awful. Went back to hostess who then just pointed to the back and said "there's cocktail waitresses back there".... so went back there and I'm not sure if it's the hotel part but it was full of Chads and Brads. Raybans and hats on backwards with some lively print board shorts. I was worried a "Do you know who my father is" might break out if a Chad got too close to a Brad. Also this is the real house wives of Long Island. Heels in the sand and designer bags. Pretty fancy for a place with no service standards. Anyway. No waitress ever came to the table. After 20 min, finally saw one girl ran around flustered and overwhelmed. Pulled in every direction. I finally just decided her job sucked and I just didn't bother to flag her down. She had her hands full as apparently none of the 20 other idle staff cared to help. She was dressed like a patron so maybe she passed me 5 times and I had no idea. Finally 6pm arrived, so went to check in. Got seated after what honestly was 15 min of standing there for no reason. How do you have any delay in seating people the minute the place opens? It's empty! After looking at the menu, a woman in a knit bathing suit cover up appeared with a small purse strapped across her body. She said hello. "What a friendly patron" I thought... nope. It's the waitress. No uniforms for most of the waitstaff so be prepared to be confused. She was very nice though. Some people have blue shirts I think. Maybe the food runners. The guy who brought the bill was wearing a tee shirt that said "Savage" on the back. Lol. $60 steaks and $20 drinks... my man Savage might have worked there or been a patron, who knows. At least I paid someone. Lol. He was nice though. Props to Mr Savage for being really polite. I think he brought water too. The table behind me had to flag their waitress down to say "we ordered drinks 20 minutes ago and they're no where to be found." She was apologetic though. The place charges high end prices. But the building itself is hardly high end. The Staff is also on vacation with you, apparently. This is the only spot in town, so they have a monopoly in this area. But I probably saw 20 different staff people there and still customers went without service. OVERALL: The food was good. But it's like there's no manager on duty to direct the staff. $20 drinks that you apparently can't even find a waiter to order. I actually saw one staffer leave their post to go take pictures of the sunset. If this place had competition it would be out of business. The food is really good. Everything else is a cluster. My one complaint is that we sat during the first 6pm reservation and even though there were multiple 2-people tables open closer to view of the water, we were told only VIPs and friends of the owner get those tables. Additionally, the menu online seemed a little different and was maybe outdated from the menu we ultimately got. This place is very pretty but whatever you do don't wing it without a reservation. We had a reservation, got there before they even opened and still waited in a long line out the door. We also got tossed to the bar restaurant downstairs for some reason which made it a bit frustrating since we had shown up prepared to be upstairs and the place was empty (like I said we got there right before it was opened which is why my photo of tables across from where we were seated looks empty). The prices are expensive to my taste for the type of location it is. Additionally my first cocktail was lack luster and was a whopping $26. The food was pretty good but not the "best meal I've ever had". I think what rings this in at a 3 is the service. They were slow and not very apologetic, almost as if we were just meant to accept it. For the prices, I would assume top notch service but they missed the mark there. The table behind us had to flag down the waiter several times so I know it wasn't just us. OUT OF HALF THE MENU. We get seated and are immediately told us that they are out of the duck, branzino, and clams. While we are in the middle of ordering, we find out they were also out of chicken. After an hour of waiting for our mains, I asked our waitress on the status of our food. Without checking, she just says "it's coming" . No one ever even came over to ask how our food was. Food took forever, somewhat laughable by then. Portions were smaller than "small plate" standard although priced ridiculously. Wait staff is pretentious and rude. But not nearly as bad as the many "wanna-be" diners with dad's platinum Amex. Shakedown of the highest order! Shocking the lack of integrity of this establishment. When a pitcher of sangria is $225 and it consists of a bottle of a $14 bottle of Rose and crushed ice, one needs to ask, is this for real? The delayed finely diced orange is added after the pitcher (literally an ice tea backyard pitcher) is placed on the table, it's unconscionable! To say that you are charging for "8-10 glasses" is still twisted math for watered down Rose. Service training should at least include transparency for the shady unpublished price of goods that will be served, i.e. Sangria. Anyone who has ever had Sangria knows that it is marinated in fruit, to add it afterwards is evidence that it was not made previously or properly, very unprofessional, which suggests that the staff were complicit and tried to cover it up. Why not say "we don't have it at this time, similar to other menu items that were not available?". Give your customer the opportunity to acknowledge and agree before having to see an absurd and inconceivable charge on the bill. Drive to the beach and bring your own bottle and enjoy the sunset. This place is not worth it. The food was ok, pasta was salty, mussels and frites were ok, but there was barely any sauce in the pot leaving the top mussels dry and without flavor. This place is a huge blemish on the adjoining hotel. Patrons should seek another establishment to dine and socialize. We visited Sunset Beach 3 times during our 3 day stay on a girls trip. Not only was it a short bike ride / less short walk away from Shelter Island Inn, the restaurant is located right on the beach! You get the stare the beautiful water and people as you wait for your food in the gorgeous restaurant. Some compared it to the French Riviera on Tik Tok (though I've never been, I definitely don't think that's a stretch). The service was great. They bring out the food right when it's made. We had one hiccup the first night when the bartender forgot to put our pesto in and it took over an hour to receive, but once we reminded her we received it shortly. We also got this comped, so no biggie! The tuna tartare and the pesto are to die for! The drinks are yummy and the service is great.
