Bento special
Traci F.

Another amazing bento special! Somen salad, California roll, shrimp tempura, calamari katsu, spring roll, and sushi.

Food was great! If you dine in on the left side, it's a bit warm. We were only checking in on once by our waitress. She sat us down, took our order then came back at the end when we were done eating. We ordered the combo A, katsu don, soft shell sushi roll and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was great! Especially the salted cabbage as your side. We'll definitely be back.

My family has dined at this restaurant for YEARS! It was a full circle moment to be able to bring my kids here! The kids enjoyed the keiki bento, which included half a spam musubi, Saimin, beef teriyaki, chicken katsu and a snack/dessert. I indulged in the chicken katsu which featured a crispy coating on tender chicken, and sauce on the side. The mini ramen was also delicious l! My partner (a first timer to the restaurant) had the bento special which included pieces of sushi, sashimi, and yakitori chicken. Needless to say we left incredibly full and satisfied. Great prices, decent portions, and Japanese comfort foods make for a great time. I highly recommend supporting this local business, as they too support local (farmers, ranchers & bakers)! *They also do takeout!

Finally dined in Restaurant Matsu. Local spot for bentos, plate lunches, and sushi. Usually seems to be busy for dine in and take out. Expect wait times but food comes out delicious! We have gotten fried chicken, teriyaki salmon, unagi don, ramen broth, and sushi. They have more options to choose from the menu. Warm and inviting atmosphere!

Matsu never disappoints! Great food! My favorite place to get Japanese food. Consistent and full of flavor

A good comfort food spot, the food/service is decent, but not as great as I expected. The staff is very friendly, but I wish they could clean up and organize the place a little better.

Landed from the airport and went straight here for a ma and pa meal! The food was okay. I noticed that their rolls were mostly rice rather than protein and one of my rolls was just drenched in spicy mayo. I wouldn't recommend a sushi fix here, but the cooked food options are made with love! The bento special was pretty good for the price. The chicken curry katsu was very crunchy and I enjoyed the curry taste without all the extra seasoning and salt. Service is really friendly and sweet! Ambiance is very cozy. I notice a lot of locals come eat here and most of them order soups. Maybe I'll come back for a warm bowl of ramen :)

Excellent home style Japanese food including mochiko spam Musubi and excellent ramen and tonkatsu. You can also get sushi which is really fresh - had spicy salmon skin for the first time Service was so kind and funny too

My GMAs favorite for Japanese food and now my favorite too! Staff was so kind and friendly. We ordered some sushi tonkatsu gyoza and more... it tastes so good!!!! Will always be coming back to this place! Only downside is be careful of the table. You will hit your knee when trying to get up from it.

My favorite restaurant find for this trip. Will not forget this one.

After not eating at Matsu for about 5 years, I decided to come back. We are so happy that we did. The chicken karaage was delicious, cooked exactly the way I like it, plus potato salad that was excellent. My wife had beef tofu, which she loved. The nice thing about this place is the prices are very reasonable, as well as a smaller portion. I don't need the extra large portions. The customer service is great with Carl and Annie. This place is the best.

The chicken katsu was very good. I was very happy to eat lunch from here. It wasn't my first time and won't be my last.

Love that it's freshly cooked. Too bad it's pretty tight there especially when it's lunch time. They need a bigger area one day.

One of my favorite places to get spam musubi! Their teriyaki style spam musubi is to die for! Got some Maui manjookie cookies on the side.

They've been part of the island's food scene for over 12 years now, and I still remember their off-the-beaten-path spot on Hobron Avenue in Kahului. You would have never guessed there was delicious food being served up there, but those who knew, knew. These days, you can find them in Kahului parked at Da Tambayan Corner on Lono Avenue, or sometimes popping up out at Ho'okipa. Now, full disclosure -- I don't eat raw fish, so I can't personally vouch for their poke bowls, but that's what they're known for and I've had a number of friends and family enjoy it. What I can vouch for, though, is their fried poke -- perfectly seasoned ahi cubes, floured and fried, served over rice and lettuce, and drizzled with a creamy mayo aioli. Get it hurricane style for extra sauce and furikake seasoning -- it's delicious and gives it an extra boost as once in a while it's on the drier side. Another favorite is the poke bake, which is just as satisfying and generously portioned. Started getting this recently and it hits the spot. Highly recommend either dish, especially if you're like me and prefer your fish cooked. And whatever you do, don't skip the furikake fries -- curly fries topped with aioli and furikake. SO good. Beyond the great food, my team has worked with Like Poke for company events, and they're always a hit. Friendly service and consistent quality eats that keep people coming back -- they're a favorite among locals for a reason.

We tried the Unagi Donburi, Shrimp Donburi, Samurai Roll, California Roll, Gyoza, and Cucumber Salad. The donburi does not have the egg mixture over the rice so they are more like bowls. The rice is really fluffy and it also comes with an avocado salad. The shrimp is cooked tempura style and is crispy and yummy. The unagi was grilled and tasty too. The sushi is really good and fresh. We enjoyed the gyoza and the cucumber salad was sliced super thin and so refreshing. The food reminded us of the food we ate in Japan and tasted authentic. The flavors are subtle but flavorful. The prices are what you would typically pay in a Japanese restaurant. It's nice to have another good option for Japanese food on Maui!

The gyoza was nice & crispy & served with a sweeter sauce. Filling was good & pretty generous. Pricing was reasonable. There was a bit of a wait, which is understandable for this type of food, so plan accordingly. Definitely need to come back & try the sushi!

What drew me in was pictures of the uni which looked super good and overall reasonable prices. Uni was fresh enough but just lacked that bright brininess that I was hoping for. It just tasted kinda bland. I wanted to order the Aloha roll which was supposed to be albacore outside, spicy tuna inside. But they were out of albacore, so I had them make the seared tuna roll with seared ahi outside and subbed spicy tuna inside (normally has imitation crab which I don't care for) which they upcharged me for. On a side note--a lot of their specialty rolls have imitation crab which is kinda weak in my opinion. Anyway I guess the upcharge would have been okay but the rolls were super small! I have never had rolls this small before. I had to order another roll, to get somewhat full. I probably could have had a 3rd roll without getting super full but I didn't want to throw good money after bad. They should call this place Miso Phit, because there rolls are super thin!
