Another amazing bento special! Somen salad, California roll, shrimp tempura, calamari katsu, spring roll, and sushi.

Food was great! If you dine in on the left side, it's a bit warm. We were only checking in on once by our waitress. She sat us down, took our order then came back at the end when we were done eating. We ordered the combo A, katsu don, soft shell sushi roll and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was great! Especially the salted cabbage as your side. We'll definitely be back.

My family has dined at this restaurant for YEARS! It was a full circle moment to be able to bring my kids here! The kids enjoyed the keiki bento, which included half a spam musubi, Saimin, beef teriyaki, chicken katsu and a snack/dessert. I indulged in the chicken katsu which featured a crispy coating on tender chicken, and sauce on the side. The mini ramen was also delicious l! My partner (a first timer to the restaurant) had the bento special which included pieces of sushi, sashimi, and yakitori chicken. Needless to say we left incredibly full and satisfied. Great prices, decent portions, and Japanese comfort foods make for a great time. I highly recommend supporting this local business, as they too support local (farmers, ranchers & bakers)! *They also do takeout!

Finally dined in Restaurant Matsu. Local spot for bentos, plate lunches, and sushi. Usually seems to be busy for dine in and take out. Expect wait times but food comes out delicious! We have gotten fried chicken, teriyaki salmon, unagi don, ramen broth, and sushi. They have more options to choose from the menu. Warm and inviting atmosphere!

Matsu never disappoints! Great food! My favorite place to get Japanese food. Consistent and full of flavor

A good comfort food spot, the food/service is decent, but not as great as I expected. The staff is very friendly, but I wish they could clean up and organize the place a little better.

Landed from the airport and went straight here for a ma and pa meal! The food was okay. I noticed that their rolls were mostly rice rather than protein and one of my rolls was just drenched in spicy mayo. I wouldn't recommend a sushi fix here, but the cooked food options are made with love! The bento special was pretty good for the price. The chicken curry katsu was very crunchy and I enjoyed the curry taste without all the extra seasoning and salt. Service is really friendly and sweet! Ambiance is very cozy. I notice a lot of locals come eat here and most of them order soups. Maybe I'll come back for a warm bowl of ramen :)

My GMAs favorite for Japanese food and now my favorite too! Staff was so kind and friendly. We ordered some sushi tonkatsu gyoza and more... it tastes so good!!!! Will always be coming back to this place! Only downside is be careful of the table. You will hit your knee when trying to get up from it.

My favorite restaurant find for this trip. Will not forget this one.

After not eating at Matsu for about 5 years, I decided to come back. We are so happy that we did. The chicken karaage was delicious, cooked exactly the way I like it, plus potato salad that was excellent. My wife had beef tofu, which she loved. The nice thing about this place is the prices are very reasonable, as well as a smaller portion. I don't need the extra large portions. The customer service is great with Carl and Annie. This place is the best.

We got there right after opening and there were a handful of diners seated ahead of us and no wait. My perception was that it's a mom running it with her sons but I could be totally off here. The food is incredible, tasty, hot, flavorful and even customizable. And WOW IT IS GOOD! UMAMI the food is so perfectly crafted together. I had a spicy soup no egg, my husband a customized ramen, and my best friend had something or other. Pork bun was nice and I enjoyed the mayo ratio. Gyoza? Portions were great, at least for someone like me who really enjoys ramen and drinking down the broth like there's no tomorrow. The place has a nice mood inside where you can feel the Japanese influence radiating from the walls. Overall it's pretty neat and comfortable.

I wanted my steak Medium Well and it was perfectly done and the teriyaki sauce was a good balance of tangy and sweet. Pour a few drops of Shoyu on the Sashimi and dip it in the Hot Mustard sauce in the middle of the tray. The star of my tray is the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. They fillet the shrimp so it was a HUGE shrimp tempura piece along with strands of carrots in tempura batter, tempura asparagus and a tempura eggplant. It was so crispy and tasty. I've been to Japan and this is Japan level tempura and the best on Maui, hands down. Food: We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, miso butterfish, garlic furikake fries, hamachi sashimi, garlic noodles, and crispy chicken. My favorite was the hamachi sashimi. What I enjoyed about this dish was the diced maui onion that offset the citrus from the ponzu. The flavors are light, and refreshing. The most disappointing was the crispy chicken. I thought it was too salty, but that's my preference and salt tolerance. The miso butterfish was also a great dish. The fish was buttery and flavored well. Not too saucy but the perfect amount of sauce. Service: Service is friendly, like most of the restaurants on Maui. The food was served in a timely manner. The ambiance is casual and felt like a bar restaurant. Overall, I'm not sure if I would return. After ordering 6-7 dishes, I wanted to be blown away by at least 4-5 of them, but that wasn't the case. I really love katsu, so I got the Pork Katsu plate, which comes with a scoop of rice and your choice of side (I chose potato salad). I loved the crispiness of the pork katsu, it came nice and hot. The Japanese rice was carb heavy, just how I love it. The potato salad was good, although I typically crave a macaroni salad with my Hawaiian plated food. There was a huge line when I arrived, and I was afraid, very afraid. However, it was a bunch of people standing around who had already ordered (another sometimes bad sign). But, I actually ordered without any line, and those people quickly dissipated. My food probably came within 10 mins. In that 10 mins, we ate the poke first, then got our Ichiban order quickly after. The two restaurants are so close together by driving, that I would highly recommend pairing the two restaurants together, if you want to share food items, and try different Hawaiian things, without making an extra trek. Would definitely recommend it right after getting off the airplane too! I can't say it was worth driving here all the way from Kaanapali though, since there's nowhere to sit down. There's a parking lot right at the restaurant itself, and it's just to-go, but you are allowed to eat in the parking lot. So can't really say much about ambiance.
