After I ate my delicious flautas
    Soledad B.

Wow, just wow! First time ordering here even though I've lived across from it for over 5yrs now. Ordered their flautas de pollo and omg literally tastes like your abuelas cooking. So delicious. You can taste the freshness of the food and all the flavors. I have not had a home cooked meal for weeks and this did it for me. I literally just finished eating and just had to hop on Yelp to praise this restaurant. PLUS, their customer service is amazing. I will be a customer for life now. Thank you so much. I posted a before and after picture which I ate everything. The vibe is so welcoming and just felt life family.

So I was having second thoughts about this place at first. I was definitely wrong the food was amazing the owners were so kind to us very humble and lovely couple. They gave us an empanada to try, it was so good. The tacos with the home made tortilla was delicious. We were the only ones there late at night and they welcomed us like if we were family. Let me just say that people like this couple are very hard to find these days so kind hearted. I will definitely be coming back.

Home-made Menudito was absolutely delicious Tortillas hechas a mano with Agua de Piña, topping it off with polite service and an empanada. #isupportsmallbusinesses

Since we were at the convention center across the street, Kalaveras is really convenient if you're around downtown Long Beach. We were seated immediately and had our orders fairly quickly. We had a long day of walking around, so we cooled off with a Mojito and La Katrina mocktail. I ordered the Kala Burrito while wifey ordered the 1 Enchilada and 1 Chile Relleno combination. Basic chips and salsa were brought out while we waited. Our waitress accidentally forgot my wife's mocktail and brought us two Mojitos. She immediately realized her mistake and gave us the second Mojito for free while she went back for the mocktail. Honestly that stood out as really good service. Naturally a free drink sounds good to most everyone, but the fact that she recognized her mistake and rectified it as soon as it happened speaks volumes of her professionalism. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time for being a pretty busy Friday night. My wife's combination plate was great with the Enchilada de Mole being the standout. My burrito was huge in size and very filling (I could've done without the fries in the burrito but that's just a personal preference and no biggie). Kalaveras can be slightly pricey but it's a good place to get some grub and drinks after a long day on your feet. Catch up with friends, go on date night, or have a family outing - Kalaveras is the spot for any occasion! They're open late, have lunch specials, daily specials, Saturday & Sunday brunch, happy hour, etc. They also offer a complimentary photo card if you want to commemorate your outing!

We had family in town and needed a last minute reservation on a Sunday for 12 people. The qualifications: AC and delicious food. Panxa Cocina fit all of the above and the entire squad left the restaurant raving about their experience. Our crew shared a bit of everything fried squash, queso, ceviche, enchiladas, and their verde chilaquiles with over easy eggs and chicken. Each of these items were delicious, but I'd return for the ceviche and chilaquiles. The ceviche was a delicious mix of sweet and salty. Their tortilla chips are made fresh in-house and paired perfectly with the fresh cut fish. I was also impressed by their cocktails. With family in town, we visited a number of fan-favorite restaurants across the coastline. Panxa stole the show for best mixed drink: the watermelon margarita. However this location was not a nice experience. And with this early evening out experience, it was the first time I have ever pondered that tipping culture may be outdated and obsolete. I have really received better service from Denny's and iHop. When this is supposed to be fine dining I do expect fine service with it too. The food: It was good, but I order the same thing at all locations, the lobster enchiladas. So thumbs up with the consistency at the California locations. I do think the Cabo location has a little extra twist of tasty. Drinks: I don't remember them being this lackluster at locations. The restaurant is so beautiful and has a nice ambiance to it. It makes you feel like you have traveled somewhere outside of downtown L.A. but that is where the magic ends. Our waitress felt very matter of fact with us. She wasn't outgoing and welcoming. I wanted to try something different and was going to ask her for a suggestion, but she really made me feel like she just wanted my order and don't bother her with anything else. When it was time to collect the plates from the table, it was weird. The men helping to clear the table never said anything like excuse me when reaching across us. I am only 5'3 so me being chest to table is pretty normal. One of them came too close for comfort to my chest when reaching across trying to clear the tables. Slow down and pay attention to where you are reaching. At the end of dinner, we never even looked at the dessert menu because at that point we were just ready to go. Upon departure, we had to stand and wait for our vehicles. All 3 of use drove in separate cars. So, we spent almost what we paid for meals in parking. Please Javier group, figure this location out or give it up to a restaurant who is going to deliver food and service as beautiful as the place itself.

We shared a small order of fries topped with chorizo, chipotle mayo, crumbled cheese, and raw jalapeno. It was soooo good and the small order was perfect for two without ruining your appetite. For my entree I had the Navajo taco which was a giant fry bread topped with red chile beef, beans, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and chipotle aioli. This was a true masterpiece of flavors. The fry bread was like a savory funnel cake flavor. Crunchy exterior and fluffy cloud like interior. The beef was melt in your mouth tender. My wife had hers with ground beef, potato, and green chile. They had a lot of different protein choices. Should have stopped at this point but they had a pumpkin pie filling stuffed sopapilla. Service was great but these ladies were doing everything. Taking orders, cleaning tables, packing up orders, putting final touches on foods, washing dishes. It was crazy yet they always kept a smile on their faces through the chaos. My wife and I cannot wait to try more items on the menu! Worth the drive!
