Came here for dinner with a friend. It's a small restaurant so it's probably better for take out. Also note that parking is pretty bad in this area. We had to circle a couple of times before finding a spot two blocks away. The parking situation doesn't take away from how great the food is. We ordered enchiladas rojas and bistec burrito, horchata to drink as well. While we were waiting for our food the cashier/waitress brought us two soft tacos filled with beans and I'm not sure what else was in them. We doused it in their, what I am assuming, house-made hot sauce. So good! The food really is on point. Both the burrito and enchilada dishes were devoured even though portion size was above average. My enchiladas rojas con pollo came with beans, rice with corn, carrots and peas, and a salad. Enchiladas were crispy and not lacking in flavor (although I did add hot sauce). Total bill for the two entrees and two horchatas was $32. I will definitely return to try their other dishes. Also it's helpful if you know a bit of Spanish as the cashier/waitress doesn't know much English. read more

I would have loved to give them 5 stars because they are my go-to Mexican restaurant in the area! But their service was subpar today. We opted to seat outside to enjoy the beautiful day but received very inattentive service from the waitress outside. Not only did they forget one of my dishes and needed to be reminded of it, but we were also not checked up on once we received our food. Hoping this was just a one time thing! My girlfriend and I just came back from here. We were unaware that it's cash only, so keep in mind about that. I only had 22$ cash in hand for the both of us, so my girlfriend had a chicken taco with a quesadilla, and I had a steak taco, chorizo taco, and a pork tostada. Everything was delicious. We've been looking for a cheap, fast taco place but either flavor fell short in most places or it was too much of a drive. The steak taco was outstandingly juicy, the chorizo was delicious (I specifically got chorizo because it's a hit or miss with me) and the quesadilla. Holy Lord. We will definitely be back again - and for only 18 dollars, you can't beat that. Very happy I tried this place out. Only thing I could say about this place was the door. To preface, I'm from California and have been eating Mexican food all my life, and I would say this place is easily top three, if not the best. One thing I like about this place is it's a family run restaurant, and the family is from southern Mexico, so the food has a slight twist on what we are used to for northern Mexican food in the US. My friends and I have gotten the enchiladas and fajitas which were both delicious. I must say the crowd absolute-favorite though is the Diablo with asada. It's a bit spicy but one of my all time favorite Mexican dishes I have experienced. They also often bring out a little bean and cheese quesadilla por gratis as an appetizer, which is a great touch of home. Horchata is also on point. Words of wisdom are that this place does close a bit early, I think 8 or 830 during the week so make sure to get there early, it's worth it! read more

Hidden gem. They also run a taco truck in a community park nearby. In either location, I have to say, this is the best Mex food I have found east of Arizona. I judge sit-down Mex by the quality of the chile relleno. Tecalitlan makes a killer relleno. To those seeking a "nice" atmosphere and kick-ass service. Tecalitlan is a 5 table dive with authentic food. If you're looking for tequila with lots of fruit - don't come here. Excellent chips and salsa. This place is my pic for best Mexican cuisine in Westchester. The service and food are outstanding. This is a place that goes out of their way to please their customers. The chef gave us 3 free tacos to share. Thanks chef! The food here is great compared to other local Mexican joints. It's fresh, hot, and flavorful. It's not as good as some of my favorites in California, but it's right up there. Parking is hard to find and its not an area I want to walk through at night. This is perhaps the quintessential definition of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. You wouldn't be able to tell that this obscure, non-descript building housed a phenomenal restaurant serving up some authentic Mexican fair. I have my favorite Mexican eatery in Jersey, but I have to admit I have found my second one in Westchester County. Walking in for lunch one day, I could tell right away that I was in the right place if I was looking for some bold, Mexican flavors. It is undoubtedly family-run and it seems that the clientele that come are an extended part of that family. This place is a no-frills café where people from around the area grab a quick delicious bite. I decided to go with their asada and lomo tostada. The asada had the right amount of flavor and kick with a clear, distinct poblano taste. The lomo was sourer than I expected--but not in a bad way--which complemented the umami flavor of the dish. Both tostadas were topped with a generous helping of avocado and lettuce. At the end of the meal I was happy and more than satisfied with what I was served. I wouldn't have a problem stopping every day and grabbing a bite from this humble place. Restaurant Tecalitlan does small mom-and-pops establishment proud. Their commitment to authentic flavor--making someone feel as if they are eating something their family would cook for them--is something that I highly appreciate. This place is authentic, and they have tasty tacos. I'll give them that. But they are inconsistent. Order your Tacos on a Friday night and they will be amazing, order them on a Tuesday night and you'll be diasspointed. This doesn't take away from them having awesome tacos I just wish they were awesome no matter the time, or day. Also they need to have someone else pick up the phone when placing an order for pick up. A business should never answer the phone to a costumer saying "what do you want" with a solitude. I am shocked at all the 5 star reviews after my experience this is probably the worst... No wait... This is in fact the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten in. The chicken is bland, the beans are like a flavorless paste. Nachos were soggy with the cheese melted into the styrofoam container, pretty sure I ate nachos with styrofoam. Wait don't stop reading yet because here is the kicker they over charged us not realizing I over paid until I got home. There I was trusting the "nice" lady behind the counter to quote me the fair menu price but she felt compelled to add an additional 25% "rip you off tax" so she can go buy herself some stilettos. Wow, this place is just awesome. Yes, it would be great if it had more than four tables, or if it had a parking lot (or both), but it would probably lose what makes it special. It feels just like the family-run places I've gone to in Phoenix and Tucson, which I really missed after moving away. We stopped in at 6:30 on a Sunday night to place a take-away order and we had our food in 10 minutes, and when the staff learned it was our first time they brought us some 'appetizer' adobada tacos which were phenomenal. We can walk to Tecalitlan from our house in about 15 minutes, which means we'll be coming here a lot! read more

Eating here made me so happy. I'm originally from South Texas, and I'd been searching out a good Mexican restaurant. I enjoyed the familiar flavors of soft corn tortillas, moist carne asada, perfectly balanced refried beans, not too thick not too runny. But what made the experience more enjoyable is that in addition to being comforted by the familiar, I was able to discover the new flavors in carne birria, not typically TexMex, but authentically Mexican.
