First time visiting and it definitely won't be my last! This restaurant has been around for about six years, and I'll admit I had previously dismissed it because it's located in an outer strip of stores where Harmon and Bed Bath & Beyond once were. I truly wish I hadn't--because I was thoroughly impressed with the food, the décor, the service, and the extensive menu. There are so many dishes I want to come back and try. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant impressed us with its vibrant, themed décor and incredibly friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Warm tortilla chips with chunky salsa and glasses of water were brought to our table immediately after we sat down, which was a great start. They have a full-service bar, and while they don't offer frozen cocktails, we honestly didn't miss them. I had a coconut margarita, and my husband enjoyed a passionfruit rum cocktail. He doesn't drink tequila, so I asked if rum could be substituted, and they were more than happy to accommodate. He chose a Tajín rim, while I opted for sugar instead of salt. Both drinks were strong, flavorful, and served in really nice, heavy margarita glasses. We both chose specials from the House Special Grill, and wow--what a great decision. My husband had the skirt steak and jumbo shrimp, served with a creamy corn salsa, and he loved every bite. I ordered the grilled steak with sautéed onions, homemade tortillas, cactus pad (nopales), rice, and beans. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and perfectly prepared. We ended the night on a high note with dessert--one of the best flans I've ever had--paired with a glass of hot Mexican coffee. Absolutely delicious. I say, Ate here when this establishment first opened and was rather impressed. I recently returned and am chuffed to report that it still is top-notch. The food is top quality and service is excellent. the restaurant is also quite well decorated for such a miniscule place. The only caveat keeping this review from being five stars is the price. Mexican fare is known for being hearty, large portioned and affordable and having now patronized this establishment twice, I can say it is two of the three. I first ate here a few months ago and the food was amazing, the young lady who served me was super nice, and the ambience was so welcoming. My next visit a few weeks ago for a quick lunch before some snow was headed this way, wasn't as great. Service started off good, and my order was placed and served to me quickly. It started to get busy while I was finishing eating (Tacos Al Pastor--yummy) , so I asked for the check from the server, but instead of bringing it to me promptly, she went and took the order of a large table, then chatted with a family sitting nearby, and went past me another few times before I was finally able to get her attention by making the "check, please" gesture. Instead of apologizing for forgetting about me and making me wait, she said nothing and just went and got the check and placed it on the table. I paid, requested a box for my food and thanked my server but didn't get any response, like not even a "thanks for coming" or anything, which I did find rude and off-putting. I had been thinking of ordering dessert to go, but changed my mind after waiting so long for my check, plus the servers attitude. The strip didn't have any foot traffic but the closer I got to the restaurant, the more cars I saw parked outside of the restaurant. I went to this place on Friday night with my family and let me start with the second you open the door to this restaurant, you get the Mexican vibe right away. the ambience, the colors and the decor felt so warm. There are so many LatinX places here, but I have yearned for and searched for real Mexican food... I needed Jalisco, Michoacan... something to give me a real taste of home. Every place I've tried has fallen drastically short... UNTIL I FOUND THIS PLACE! You walk in and it feels cozy. Nice lighting, great art and pottery on the walls, pictures of Frida Kahlo greet you, with service that makes you feel like you are in their home. Everything was amazing. Chips and salsa were fresh. Hubby's pollo mole was that rich, complex flavor you get from a good authentic mole with like a million ingredients and a ton of love. My enchiladas suizas we're perfection... Juicy shredded chicken, and that amazing poblano verde on top was something I've been craving since I had it. Every place I go for Mexican food, I always ask for the hottest sauce they have in the kitchen. You never know if you're going to get a great salsa macha, a house blended chili sauce, a bottle of plain tapatío or sometimes they even just bring you more salsa like you've been eating. When I asked here, the woman smiled that smile that says, "Don't worry, mija, I got you." She brought out two small bottles. One was a chili sauce they made and a bottle of something with an angry dog on the label, made in El Salvador.
