So I have been to La Bufadora hundreds of times as a kid and young adult but I don't come as often anymore. I was on a cruise with some family members and usually find a place to eat in Ensenada. On this occasion we brought someone that had never been here and we really enjoyed our trip; none better than coming to Blanquita. We ordered two orders of the famous clams. Each order is two clams [for those who have had too many cervezas, that's a total of 4 large clams for the four of us]. Each order [2 clams] is $180 pesos or about $10 dollars. These are some of the best clams I have ever had, barring maybe New Orleans. Even my daughter, who was reluctant, loved it. We also had some fish and shrimp tacos and everyone was happy with everything we tasted. The tacos were $50 pesos which is a little over $2.50 in dollars. NOT cheap but considering the location, very reasonable. There are a bunch of men out there trying to get you seated. Once they seat you, you are theirs. In other words, they are going to serve you and they get commissions and tips. Our guy was good, Tony Montana [no cocaine jokes please] and he was pretty good. I will say, I understand the culture here and they are selling, selling, selling. The restaurant did charge us 80 pesos or more than $4 dollars for a soda, which is a crime but airports and other places do it all the time. And the views, well that has to account for something. But the beers were the same price so that was a great deal. Today's life lesson: More beer less soda!!! I wish I would have taken a picture of the menu prices. read more

While visiting the area I was dying to eat some GOOD fresh seafood, I mean I'm on the beach right? What's better than fresh seafood? So we decided to try this place (had not seen the reviews) upon looking at the menu I was gonna go for grilled octopus while my company was going for Baja style fish tacos cuz they're usually delicious! We weee suggested by the waiter Cesar to try this huge dish that came with everything, shrimp, lobster, octopus, crab, fish all of that called Mariscada. Not knowing the rip off that it was gonna be we decided to go with his suggestion. The dish is indeed big however there was NO octopus, no crab, there was a load of different kinds of shrimp I believe 9 different types of shrimp and also a badly overcooked fried fish and also overcooked small lobster as you can see in the pic. I also asked him about the oysters he said they had been caught a few hours ago... they were disgusting nearly inedible!! Resuming the story I wasted my money cuz it cost me 250 dollars!! Yes DOLLARS! When if I had gone with what we initially had in mind my bill should have been about 40 bucks which is pretty good in Mexico. It was a trek climbing to the top, so be careful if you have small children, you're with older adults or you've already had a couple palomas, pina coladas or tequila. I ordered tacos de pescado (fish) y camaron (shrimp). Came out to a little under $2 for a taco. Chips and salsa are brought over to munch on. For the tacos, they're brought to you deep fried on a tortilla and plain. You add your own shredded cabbage, Pico de Gallo, sliced radishes, salsa and crema. I forgot how spicy fresh salsa can be and it was delicious. The tacos were okay, but I think Tacos Fenix's batter is better. Had a mariachi band playing and they took requests of 3 songs for $20. Ah I wish I had cell service when we were at La Bufadora. We were ushered in by a nice guy who was talking up their clams, which smelled delicious. We planned on lunch in the area anyway so we took him up on his offer and he seated us upstairs with a great view. Restrooms were free to use as well as customers and very clean. $8 usd per clam and shrimp skewer. We were surprised that the price per clam included both sides of the clam. Cheesy gooey goodness with pico de gallo - shrimps and not much clam but still the highlight of my meal. Loved the smokiness of it. I will say we bought shrimp skewers without veggies on the beach just the other day for $2.50 usd each. We decided to also order off the menu as there were 5 of us and still a bit hungry. My only recommendation is to calculate your own bill before they take the menu away. We ordered- 1 modelo 1 shrimp tostada - I remember this at 50 pesos 1 mango margarita 1 orange soda 1 horchata 1 fish taco 1 fish tostada 2 sides of rice which I remember was $5 usd total. And we are trying to figure out now how that was an $86 meal??? We had already paid $32 cash to the other vendor for the shrimp and clams. Lesson learned. My fiancé loved his fish taco but the ceviches were just okay. If we ever go back to La Bufadora, which I doubt, - I would buy the clams again. They were unique and tasty but something was off about the calculation of the bill (no receipt) and we were feeling ripped off and that's a terrible feeling when visiting a new place. If I could give less than one star I would. The tour guide that brought us to La Bufadora recommended the place for seafood and my dad loves seafood so we decided to try it. I ordered chicken tacos which were bland. Another in my party ordered fish and shrimp tacos and she didn't eat them. My mom ordered coconut shrimp from the fried portion of the menu and was brought some steamed type of cocktail shrimp inside of coconut with sliced cucumbers sprinkled with paprika. The final straw was them bringing us a bill where they overcharged us. The menu said the tacos were 35 pesos but they charged 40. The coconut shrimp said 280 pesos and they charged 300, however the coup de grace was them telling us that they set their own conversion rates after we were told on the bus ride over that pesos to dollars was 17 to 1. If you decide to try them, I would recommend that you stop and exchange some money first otherwise beware of the scam! read more

If I could give negative reviews I would. The food took over 2 hours to be ready and when it came the chicken was raw (raw pink and soaked in butter). Woot their grilled clams with butter were so good! That's the only thing we tried and that's what they're famous for too as you can smell and see them on your way to the geyser! Basically they put some chopped clams, diced onions, peppers, herbs and butter into both of the shell halves, topped with cheese and shrimp, grilled on the charcoal grill to add some smoky flavor. It sounds simple but it's so freaking delicious! The reason why I didn't give it a 5 was because of the service. They're doing 3 whole shells (6 halves) for $20 USD. Us 5 girls were not sure if we could finish all 3 so we just got 2 for $14. After finishing the two we wanted to get more! So we went back there and ask them if we could get the 3rd one for only $6 more since that would be what they offered, 3 for $20. The guy refused and was very adamant and rude about it. In general the merchants here do not have the best service. Maybe they make too much money from tourists that they don't care anymore? Regardless, I hope you won't get rude service. I hate that I have to write this bad review, just because the food was ridiculously overpriced! Food was super good, but damn they are out to scam you, and after they do they ask you for a damn tip. Smh. We only tried the clam because they smelled so good as you walked by them but I knew to only get that. It had four shrimps and cut up pieces of clam, I dont even think it was a whole clam. So let me just say--- You're better off going to the smoke clams that are located midway through the flee market, youll save a few dollars off each clam. Went here on our day excursion from a cruise. They provide great service and are very attentive to their customers. I ate the tacos which were good, but salsa was just ok. My husband and other family members ate their oysters. Which everyone absolutely loved!! I only give three stars cuz they charge us for additional food they said they brought us which in fact they didn't. I think they thought they did cuz they were running back and forth serving us and got mixed up. We just end up paying it to avoid issues especially since being in a foreign country. Before writing this review I noticed i someone else had the same experience with being charged for food they didn't receive but what can ya do... I did however appreciated the sever going up to the restaurant and getting my tacos and bringing them to me down at the bottom table just beside the bottom steps. This place will rip you off! The guy from downstairs was charging me $8USD per clam, but he "meant" $8 for each side. I should have refused this but did not. He initially wanted to sell me 4 whole clams for $56 but I refused. They sell almejas gratinadas in Ensenada for $2.50 USD. No reason to give these thieves your money. SCAM, OVERPRICED, TOTAL RIPOFF Place is cool, food is ok but they dont give you prices nor tell you two businesses will charge you seperately. We ended up paying two different checks, the first one charged us a bucket of 10 beers, 3 tacos and 2 micheladas for 70 dollars or 1190 pesos and a second one for 14 clams and 5 shrimp skewers for a total 167 dollars /3006 pesos. Some of the prices are not in the menu so at the end you won't know how much you will be paying. I wouldn't give it any stars but you have at least click one to move on here. If they would have told me i was going to pay vegas money at this place i would waited to go to vegas. read more

So we have a very mixed review to give. First off, the grilled clams are fantastic. If you're not worried about how much you spend, eat as many as you can. They're great. We went above the grill to the restaurant. It was a great view. Note that they took orders separately from the street shop below. We paid for the coconut water (large cut whole coconuts! so touristy!) and the clams separately. They were great. The rest of the food from the restaurant above was just okay. We liked the coconut shrimp in mango sauce, but our group was divided on the fish tacos. Heavily breaded, almost doughy soft. Not bad, but not awesome either. We liked the steak tacos better. What really surprised us was the exchange rate hit. Prices on the menu were in pesos, exchanged for dollars at 17/dollar (pretty low). Plus they add a 16% credit card charge. And you don't really get to see the bill. Not that I think we got cheated, but it was just a very large bill. Be aware of what you are ordering. We ended up spending 90$ US for the five of us, when we thought we might be spending about $50. That's an awful lot for a tourist place, when 1$ tacos are a few steps away. It just wasn't that good to be that costly. Suggestion: splurge on several grilled clams. They're not cheap but are great. But fill up at one of those other taco shops for lunch. read more

The food here is good, especially the grilled clams downstairs, but BEWARE of the price on your bill! This is the 2nd time we ate at this restaurant, the first time in March 2017 with a group of 5. Everything was perfect: food and drinks were great, charged according to the menu, no extras. We came again in July, this time with a group of 13. We ordered 13 grilled clams from the grill stand below, and the guy insisted he delivered 14, despite we counted the dishes multiple times. Of course we refused to pay the extra non-existing plate. This you have to pay in cash separate from the sit-down restaurant upstairs. We were quite seasoned travelers so we always know to confirm prices at touristy joints in order to prevent arguments on the bills. The waitress told us the grilled fish was USD$30@, but they charged us $35@, showing $70 on the bill. After complaints, they changed it back to $60. This was the 1st item on the bill. Then came the $130 item which they told us was the shrimp platter with picture on the menu front. They told us it was $30 when asked! The exchange rate was USD$1 to 17 Peso, USD$130 equaled 2210 Peso, there was no dish even close to that amount on the menu! We obviously refused to pay but they wouldn't let us go. We threatened to call the police but we have a tight deadline to return to the cruise, so reluctantly we had to pay, USD $360 in addition to the $104 for the grilled clams and $35 for coconuts collected by the grill stand. The total was USD$499, a rip-off indeed!!! read more
