I had two insurance options, Medicare and VSP, the largest nationally known eye care insurance program. As VSP had a $15 deductible, I opted to file thru Medicare, but she didn't want to do it. Medicare would have paid at 100% and saved me the $15, but she still balked, although it is her job to file insurance claims. So I suggested that she file anyway, and if there was a problem, we could always file under the other plan and I could pay the $15 deductible. She refused, saying that she would only file one claim, not two. At that point it really rankled me, and I said that if I had to knock on the door where the dr. was working, I guess he would help get this straight,. Her reply was, go ahead, he is my husband. He will stand behind anything she does. I demanded a copy of my prescription so that I could go to another dr. office to get my glasses, as I knew I wasn't going to do anything more there, and she refused until I paid her the $15 balance. With her attitude toward people and the fact that she is fire proof, she wouldn't last ten minutes at any other job. This is a rude, mean spirited woman who needs to be somewhere else. I will never go back into this doctor's office, which is sad. He is a good man. But his wife......

So this review comes after a lifetime of experience with eye professionals and opticians. I have never been so satisfied with an eye doctor, optician, or office. First, the professionalism, depth of care, and individual attention are unsurpassed. Dr. Foust spends a great deal of time making absolutely certain about the health of the eyes and about the corrective prescription. If you like learning more about your eyes, their care, and the science behind the procedures, this is where you want to be. I learned more about my eyes, about undiscovered issues, and about the eye care profession in one visit than I learned in all my previous visits combined. This past weekend I had a fall and started having some retinal issues with one eye. Once I checked out the symptoms and found I needed to have a doctor look at my eye, I called Dr. Foust's office, and they got me in extremely quickly. Dr. Foust conducted a thorough exam, explained my symptoms, gave me instructions for care, and helped me understand what to look for in case my symptoms worsened. Again, he also provided a wealth of background and scientific information to help me understand more deeply. It doesn't hurt that he is friendly, welcoming, and patient. The optician, Robert McBee, is just as amazing! I have a wide head, and searching for frames is always stressful and frustrating. Robert took one look at me, picked out 4 frames that were lovely and fit my head comfortably. That's how well he knows his stock and his clients. He also does all the jobs of an optical shop - no assistants that might make errors or sell you the wrong frame. He fit the frame and lenses to my prescription carefully before he ordered the glasses. His philosophy is that when you pick up your glasses, they should perfectly fit your face and eyes without adjustment - and they did! His knowledge of lens technology is amazing, and I left the appointment with a great deal of information. I will continue to use this business for the rest of my life!

Thanks for changing my perception and image of what a doctor's office can be like. Here's the issues: 1) Off-putting and excessive security for an optometrist office, 2) Electronic Health Records system questionnaire that doesn't value the patient's time, 3) Incompetent office staff (scheduling appointments within insurance parameters). There are other optometrist offices that provide better customer service. For more specifics: To start, greeting clients with a locked door. I know that it is the 21st century. Certain neighborhoods can be rough. Is Blakeney or Weddington a high crime area? I don't think so. So, why is it necessary to have everything but a retinal scan to get into the office space? So you had someone come in and grab some frames - once (Oakley frames cost about $15/pair to manufacture, you may pay $100/pair). Stop treating the vast majority of people as if they are going to repeatedly violate the security of your business. Between your profit margins and your insurance, you can handle the shrink. Next, let's address the Electronic Health Records system (EHR) that is designed to consume mass quantities of patient time asking questions that are sometimes patently ridiculous. Men cannot get pregnant, this is basic biology. In a digitally active online form in the 21st century, why after acknowledging that I am a man would a form ask me if I'm pregnant (this is a "sex" question, not a "gender" debate)? No reason other than wasting time/energy. Why would such a system not retain information from prior visits and simply ask for changes and updates to previously reported information? Its not a HIPAA thing. Is it because you don't value the client's time? So, you really are going to ask me to fill out this complete multi-page form again for another appointment next week - really!? Finally, lets talk about the importance of scheduling appointments that acknowledges the world of health insurance that we live in and that funds the very existence of the modern optometrist office. When a client completes an appointment and the optometrist tells the person at the front desk to set them up for their annual appointment, it is not a stretch to think that part of the scheduling algorithm would be to include insurance requirements for the ANNUAL check-up. So, imagine my disappointment, when I show up after completing the forms, working my way through security, and the front desk staff asks, "So, you're going to be paying for this visit out of your pocket?" No, I pay a monthly premium so I don't have to. Now, to make it worse, I have addressed these same issues - in writing - to the company at least 2 years ago. They haven't done anything to change them. This optometry office needs significant improvement.

I called and explained the situation, how loyal we are and how I'm from out of town. I nicely asked if I could swing by and get 2 pairs of contacts - Wendy declined and proceeded to say that unless I come in for an exam or put in an order I wouldn't be able to get the trial contacts. With the amount of years and money my family and I have spent, and I can't even get 4 individual contacts. Safe to say I will not be a returning customer.
