Lance McCarthy stole $4549.14 from me. The homeowner requested us to do the roof as part of his remodel because they liked us. Against my instincts I went ahead and did this job for retouch even though they had stiffed us on a previous payment. Now Lance says he's broke and he's not gonna pay his bill even though the homeowner paid him in full for the roof. Lance does not return our calls emails or text messages. He is a crook stay as far away from him as you can. read more

Lance McCarthy and ReTouch stole my $1266 deposit and provided no product or service. After providing the deposit for a tile backsplash installation job in October, ReTouch failed to provide any installation dates. After many emails, texts, and voice mails, they promised it would be done "by the end of the year." After missing that date, I requested a refund. They have not returned any calls, emails or texts since December 1st, 2023. I have filed a theft and fraud report with both the local Mission police and the Johnson County district attorney's office. I doubt I'll get my money back, but I'm hoping to prevent anyone else being scammed by this company. read more

We just finished remodeling our bathroom with Retouch and we could not be more pleased. Mark and Joey communicated with us every step of the way and we are overjoyed with how well it turned out. They worked with us to fit the work into our schedules and always contacted us if something was going to change. They asked our opinions on every detail to make sure the work was done exactly the way we wanted it. Our designer Beth was also great. She provided helpful suggestions while still giving us room for our own ideas. The cost of our project was reasonable. We had a quote from another company that was 1 and 1/2 times what Retouch quoted us. It was a positive experience from beginning to end. Had some work done in 2019 and had two warranty issues. One within a year (failed paint application) and one this year (a failed roof they installed.) I could not get them to respond to emails or texts on the failed paint and ended up repainting it myself since it was a minor thing. This year, I've called many times over many weeks and still can't get them to work with me. They came out once, took some pictures, and said they'd have to have the roofer come out and evaluate it. That was the last I heard from them. I also filed a BBB complaint, and they didn't respond to the BBB either. read more

We had Retouch replace and enlarge our deck and railings, at a cost of nearly 20K. It was a fairly large project that went well, and the issues we had with part of the installation were resolved when we brought to the attention of Jesse, our Project Manager. The problem that remained unsolved was that the workmen used a permanent ink to make the lines on the deck for the screws. They do not wear off as chalk or pencil would have. I have reached out to the owner, Lance, and his associates, and he and Dakota came out to determine what could be done, and then no response. They no longer return my calls or texts- for over five months. We now have spent many hours using various internet-found remedies and are now sanding the entire deck so it can be stained. We had another bid from Retouch to refinish our basement, so we also will not be doing that. Very unhappy with how this ended, and we should not have paid the final remainder of the invoice until satisfactorily completed. Lesson learned. read more

Our project involved total remodel of two bathrooms on main floor, a hall bath and master bath. We had bids from 4 firms and ReTouch priced the project right in the middle ($40,000) of the price range. Their designer did a good job in helping us pick quality products within reasonable price ranges. They brought samples of everything to us so we didn't have to run around town. Lead carpenter Mark Franklin was the on the scene manager and did a great job communicating and coordinating. Everyone was conscientious about their job and responsive to what we wanted. I recommend them and will use them again for the next project. read more

I will start this review by saying everyone I have dealt with at Retouch has been extremely pleasant to work with. However, the lack of commination and planning from Lance was unprofessional at best. There was no clear definition of a timeline, workers would show without warning and then we wouldn't see them again for weeks. I was then contacted by my city saying that although permits were pulled for the job in question, the appropriate inspections were not scheduled and we now need to retroactively address that. Maybe my job just got lost in the shuffle, but I am shocked to see the reviews about timeliness and planning. read more

Very disappointed in the company. We remodeled our kitchen and were not happy. Our project manager was April and she was average at best. She made numerous mistakes not paying attention to detail. We have been overcharged from our original quote. She is very air headed, and seems very confused when questioned. She smiles a lot and has no idea what she is doing. When the contractors showed up they blamed her and she blamed them. This company needs to have all players talking together. Sorry we went with them. We will never recommend. read more

On ReTouch's home page it reads "We enrich lives by redeeming spaces." ReTouch absolutely did this for our family and our now redeemed home. My husband and I bought a house in January of 2018 that needed heavy renovations. Initially ReTouch was called to our house by the elevator company we hired to install an elevator. We were already overwhelmed by the amount of work needed to be done so we asked ReTouch to give us some guidance. After a walk through this project was quickly becoming a bigger project than we had imagined. ReTouch did our elevator shaft and the finishing of its floor, kitchen, hearth room, mud room/butler's pantry, parlor, dining room, main floor 1/2 bath, master bedroom, master bathroom, master martini deck, basement with full bathroom, workout room, kitchen/bar and mantles on 3 fireplaces. Outside ReTouch renovated the screened in porch, removed and rebuilt a new deck, renovated the walk out patio and gave our home a major transformation with a curb appeal that has me overwhelmed is the best way. Most of the areas mentioned were gutted to be updated, designed and function as we requested. The design team really listened to our requests and quickly learned what we liked, but still kept us informed every step of this journey. ReTouch was in our house for about 9 months before we did a final walk through. There were unforeseen obstacles that delayed some aspects of the renovation, but knowing that when the work was finished we would be in a home that was more beautiful and more functional beyond any we could ever have imagined helped us remain patient. Our ReTouch team was thoughtful, respectful and well-intentioned throughout this transformation. ReTouch's rates are reasonable and they did not push any services on us that we did not need. Everyone on the ReTouch team was honest and trustworthy. We had friends and family who experienced the "before" of our house. Now they see the "after" is our home that truly reflects our family. Our neighbors applauded every step of the renovation and people have stopped by to express their amazement at the transformation that they watched over those months. Our lives have been enriched and our house has become our home. We would strongly recommend ReTouch and we will be using them again. read more

There are many wonderful things about this company and lovely people and I was beyond excited to work with them. They were so great in the beginning with multiple walkthroughs and a very thorough discussion of the process with the owner but it turns out that wasn't reflective of what we ended up getting. In hindsight, I realize it was a lack of organization, poor communication, and seemingly an inability to keep good staff. Their proposal process needs to be more clear with regards to pricing or maybe they need to do some education with the client to gauge their understanding of renovating. As our first large scale home project, it would have been beneficial to understand the details of specifically what you will pay for and get or what you may opt out of in order to save money or in an effort to do it yourself. I thought I was hiring a full service renovation company and that justified the cost to me, but feel I was left with product that looks unfinished. The sheet rock process was quoted to take about four days and ended up taking them two+ weeks. Poor communication left me without heat overnight in January with two small children. The impact to areas in my home other than the actual job itself (removing a load bearing wall on the main floor) were not anticipated well and ended up looking terrible, leaving me with more work to do myself upstairs and downstairs. In addition, I had issues with our flooring months after we finished. They did make it right by involving the installer to correct it per their warranty, but never followed up beyond that to come and make sure it was done right and there are still issues. They have also been unresponsive to my communication since. Lastly, I was never properly thanked for my business by the owner, the staff, or even really a generic follow up thank you email. As someone in hospitality sales, I know that can go a long way in making lasting relationships and making people feel good about their purchases. This one left me feeling disappointed, out of money, and undervalued for the amount spent and therefore I would not recommend. read more

I am a woman of color and it's hard to find a good contractor you can trust; for ten years Retouch worked on several projects for me and did a great job. But they got new staff and it seemed as if I was no longer valued as an urban customer. My last 20000 plus 6 week project took three months plus and I had to file a complain with the Better Business Bureau to get them to finish the job. And two months later things are falling apart. read more

We are extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism, work ethic and integrity of ReTouch Design-Build-Renovate owner Lance McCarthy and his Contractors. Our kitchen remodel started June 17, 2019 with a contracted 40 days; completion date of July 26, 2019. To date, November 15, 2019, over 5 month later, ReTouch has yet to fully complete our project, as well as going over budget almost $5,000. Our Project Manager was April Harlan who informed us first thing that she had a remodeling project going on at her home. She stated that no other projects were getting her attention until hers was done. "It was her turn!" We later found out she had a big party planned for the July 4th Holiday. We thought she was kidding around but she was totally serious. And she did absolutely nothing as far as management of our project. She repeatedly pulling contractors off our project to work on hers. Her project was completed, then she left town on vacation. We also suspect her of ordering extra flooring the same as ours, charging the full amount to our account which resulted in her flooring cost being practically free. We suspect this because there were 18 full boxes of the flooring left over after our flooring was installed. If this was an miscalculation, she clearly has no aptitude for measurements as well as project management. Due to her lack of attention to our project most of the work was done wrong or was not done at all. The only thing that she paid attention to was getting paid. There were many deviations from the plans without a word to us. While still on the job, ReTouch was regularly redoing much of its own work after we questioned the results. Workers were never on time and often didn't show up at all. We felt that we were prisoners in our home waiting around on them to show up to work. On several occasions Contractors treated us with rudeness and disrespect. ReTouch carpenter Tom Byles told my wife that the plan for the kitchen was ridiculous and that if we were so dissatisfied with his work, he would load up all the cabinetry and haul it off; then our project would wait until he finished up with 3 other projects. Unfortunately, we had already paid ReTouch for the work and the project was already 4 weeks past the 40 days leaving us without a kitchen. The quality of his work is very poor, while we paid an outrageous price for what was supposed to be custom cabinetry by a Master Craftsman. We would have had better quality from Lowe's boxed stock. The 'Final Invoice' contained amounts for work that was either done poorly, or not done at all. Several times we emailed complaints and provided a list of issues, defects and faulty workmanship. Lance McCarty acknowledged our 'bad experience & treatment' and wanted the opportunity to try to make it right. We decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, we were again disappointed with the results. In the beginning it had been our desire to do our project with a local small business. We saved up for over 5 years and were really excited about having it done. We normally are not ones to be so negative but feel it important to inform others so that no one else falls victim to ReTouch deceptive business practices. Needless to say, at this time we are completely disgusted with the whole ordeal. We definitely would not recommend doing any business with ReTouch. Our recommendation to homeowners is to use a corporate business such as Lowe's, Home Depot or Nebraska Furniture Mart since they will see to it that the contractors complete the project to the satisfaction of the homeowner or they don't get paid. read more

Believing we had chosen carefully, we hired ReTouch to do a long-awaited interior paint job -- trim throughout home as well as some ceilings and walls. All professionalism ended once the contract was signed and a significant deposit was paid (stupid of me). Their contracted painter did an unimaginably unprofessional job by every measure - from preparation to protecting our floors and furniture to paint application/coverage to clean up. We will never be able to completely remove the paint spatters from our wood and tile floors and have spent HOURS redoing portions of the work and attempting to clean damaged floors and furniture. When we researched and hired ReTouch, painting and NUMEROUS similar handyman-type projects were prominently advertised on their website; I was surprised to note just now that they've removed this information entirely. Because our feeling throughout the project -- from the moment the painter arrived, through their inadequate attempts at "resolution" -- was that they DID NOT CARE about this "minor" project, this seems like a relevant detail. It also seems relevant to note that Joel P., another reviewer, is listed on the ReTouch website as a team member! Erik H. is also listed as an employee. A complete refund would be reasonable and appropriate. (Edited to add: recent activity on this Yelp review is laughably transparent. This company can get as many friends and business associates/employees as they like to add reviews all of a sudden but the fact remains: this company either should have passed on this project or done quality work.
