An absolute great place! Comfortable and relaxed, yet very special! You must try the Flash Fried Spinach....unbelievably amazing. Entrees were excellent and the service was too! First time we had ever been there. The staff was fantastic, the restaurant was clean and very nice environment. We had the YOAKAM BRUSCHETTA that is the best Bruschetta I have had. The steak was unbelievably tender. Then I had the Prime Rib, Smoked Gouda Mash and Truffle Mushroom Risotto. My wife had Prime Rib, Smoked Gouda Mash and Brussels Sprouts. The meat was cooked right with a great flavor and the sides were wonderful. Then they treated us to Pecan pie and Apple pie for our Birthday's that was my favorite pecan pie. On top of all that Chef Tiny made several trips through the restaurant that great guest and assure everyone was taken care of. Thank you Chef Tiny and Sraff for a great night. read more

We tried Happy Hour on Wednesday from 4:30 5:30. It was not very busy at all. Food was good. Ambience too. Drinks were okay. Customer service was not good. The staff were not very attentive. I noticed though if the staff knew your name the staff was attentive and quick. Not sure if I will go back and try lunch or dinner because of the customer service. read more

This place went downhill very quickly. We were excited to have an alternate to Metropolitan Grill closer to our house. We've tried three times. The first was shortly after they opened and the food and service was excellent. The second two visits were recent and our last. The staff were aloof and unresponsive and preferred to chit chat with a few bar patrons vs keep our food warm and beverages flowing. It's like a Springfield high school in there now and food is overpriced relative to quality and flavor in the experience provided. We are both working professionals who entertain clients frequently and will continue to use other restaurants in town instead. So sad - we wanted this to be a local gem but were quickly let down. read more

Service was fantastic, beer was cold, broccoli was amazing! Atmosphere was great too. The complimentary cookie was out of this world. I may end up going back? Not 100% sure, I am a big steak person and I personally believe there is better places in town to get a steak. There are different food items on the menu to try, but both of us in my party got steak. They did have a very diverse menu with unique names to what the metropolitan grill has. Would definitely like to try other things. However, like I said, I would go elsewhere for a steak, especially for the price point. read more

Retro Metro and Metropolitan Grill are owned by the same owner and are two of the best restaurants in Springfield. Best service, food and drinks. Their cocktails are heavy pours which keeps us coming back. Yelp has them as Italian restaurant. They are more American/ contemporary/ steak. read more

Retro Metro has one of the best menus and the best food in Springfield. There is absolutely no doubt about that. However, my experience on Friday was less than spectacular. First off, our server was wearing a jean mini skirt. The shocking part: she's a MANAGER. Now, I know I'm a bit old fashioned, but a jean mini skirt has no place in a fine dining restaurant and it certainly shouldn't be paraded around by a manager. In my opinion, it looked unprofessional, classless, and tacky. That being said, she was nice but she also took her time with everything. Secondly, I know the restaurant was busy (which I love because then I know people want to be there) but it seemed that she really only cared to give extra attention to her guests whom were men. Again, I know I'm old fashioned, but if I'm paying $50 for a piece of prime rib, I would like the kind of service I have become accustomed to when I come to Retro Metro. I love the food and I love the new menu but please, please train your people in what it means to be professional. read more

My husband and I had a date day and decided to give this place a try. We walked in and no one greeted us so he had to find someone. It was so cold that we had to leave our coats on during our meal. I ordered a wrap with the "sexy" tots and he got the beef stroganoff. The "sexy" tots were anything but sexy or even edible. They were a big bowl of soggy disgusting nastiness! My wrap was also a huge disappointment of flavorless chicken, spinach cream cheese and cheese. My husband liked what he got but it was nothing that made us ever want to return. Been here twice. 1st time was excellent...fantastic service and even better food. Came back a week later...absolute opposite experience. Got seated in the "kiddie room" on the east side. Only four tables with low lighting and no ambience. (restaurant was alive out side this room but it was like a morgue inside). Waited at least 10 minutes before the server acknowledged us to take a drink order and long delays in drink refreshment. When she delivered the rolls, she dropped a roll and sauce that stained my $170 shoes (I have tried, without success, to clean). The $21 Waygu burger was overcooked and dry. The good...Mistakes happen and the server was very nice and truly apologetic. She was sincere and tried very hard. They didn't charge me for my dinner and even made me another burger. The bad...The waitress was clearly overwhelmed either by too many tables, poor training or lack of back-up. Her workload did not allow her to properly do her job. No manager came by to offer an apology. I entered hungry, ready for a repeat of the week before and I left feeling disappointed, mostly because it just seemed as none of it mattered. It made for a very poor dining experience, one I am not eager to repeat. I write this because I believe this is a management problem that is easily fixed. I want them to be aware so they can improve, not because I want a free meal or dessert. read more

So. Employment is low right now I get it. But I feel like this place should be great but it just hasn't been. First time I went in, five star service all the way. I was floored by how amazing the service was. It was even a Friday night. I could bathe in their scrumptious crab cakes. But I spent $40 on a steak and I'm gonna be honest it wasn't that great. Mashed potatoes give or take. The flash fried spinach, perfect. They are also super accommodating with my dietary restrictions. So first visit. Overall five stars. That being said this visit was not great. We sat on the back patio and ordered the spinach, and the chicken Chad. Spinach once again, perfect. But the Chad was drier than my sense of humor. It was barely edible. Not only that it was $30 and we were being attacked by flies the entire time. Flies aren't really that big of a deal, fine. I mentioned the flies to our waitress and asked for a box. She brought me a box but not the check. I should mention I have a small child with me so I'm trying to entertain my child while flies eat our food. It's not a great time. But with a small human I hate to make a mess in the dining room, so I try to sit on the patio. So on this patio with these hungry flies I sat patiently waiting for the check. Five minutes go by still no check. so I have to go into the restaurant flag her down so that I can pay. Overall she was pleasant to talk to really sweet, and handled my personality well. I paid about $50 for amazing Spinach and terrible chicken. I wouldn't normally rate so low but this is the second time my entree has been barely edible. Also with having to flag down the server to get the check, after she had already brought me a box.... That's a three star experience Oh and the first time they gave me bread. This time no bread. Easy access, nice atmosphere, accommodating, seating appropriately distanced, and the food is amazing!!! Comfortable fine dining at it's best! Salads are scrumptious and the rolls are exceptional!!! For entree we had the steak and I must say the Tyler T is the most incredible steak we've ever eaten, and we've been around while!!! We shared the tiramisu for dessert which was a delightful end to a satisfying meal. Perfect choice for a special occasion, date night or if you're just needing a fine dining treat. read more
