Standard pub fare menu, but important to mention they smoke their own meats for housemade sandwiches and apps - excellent flavor! Friendly and attentive service, food came quickly and cooked to order. Overall 4.0+ rating for friendly and prompt service, tasty foods, relaxed (no frills) ambience. Expect to spend $10-15pp for meal, plus any beverages. My fave sandwich of the day was their Cuban, with house smoked Pulled Pork, Ham, Swiss pickle and mustard on a Brioche roll, so tender and flavorful! Served with fresh cut fries or another side, this hits the spot! The Philly and BBQ Bacon burger were also excellent sandwiches. For apps, enjoyed their house smoked Wings tossed in Buffalo sauce, Potato skins with Bacon, Cheese and green onions, and the Fried Pickles spears; all tasty but preferred Wings and Skins the best. I have to say, our group was pleasantly surprised here. The reviews are spot on. We came in town with a group from KC and pub crawled around. The two people working when we came in were incredible! They were attentive, kind, immediately welcomed us upon walking in, and the service was quick and awesome. We didn't try the food, so I can only speak for the atmosphere. Went in because I heard about the Nachos, also got some wings. They only have two flavors; hot and buffalo, also got a side of fries for the kid. The nachos were okay at best, not remotely "loaded." Maybe a half cup of each ingredient. The meat had no barbecue flavor at all. I would also recommend to the establishment to "layer" the nachos so there's something in between each chip. They are also supposed to be known for wing, but I also felt they were lacking. Smoked then fried "supposedly" but they were soft and small. I recommend smoking a bit longer/stronger, frying a bit longer, getting bigger wings, and expanding the flavor selection. The beer prices also aren't very competitive. The place was completely dead so no surprise, wait staff was okay, probably wouldn't go back. read more

Came to eat here on a Sunday evening at 7:30pm. The hours posted on Apple said open until midnight. We walked through the gate onto the patio that had all of their lights on as well as music blaring. We then walked into the establishment and noticed it was just two employees, we then asked if they were closed and the female employee rudely said "the gate was closed wasn't it" -it was not by the way- i then said no and it was followed by a few more snarky comments. The Dugout is exactly what we were looking for! Old school sports bar with some of the friendliest service we've experienced in a long time. We walked in hoping to watch the Arkansas baseball game (we're from Arkansas) and without even asking, they noticed my Ark shirt and offered to put the game on. We stuck with appetizers and draft beer and couldn't have been more happy with it. Definitely try the smoked wings! They're excellent. So, I'm generally not a fan of dive bars. From the curb appeal in and out, I would not have came here myself if we were not meeting people for drinks. However, this place is so unassuming and actually a secret hot spot with a patio, live music, quality food, and really friendly staff where they smoke all of their meats on site. Things to Note: 1) Lots of beer on tap - but sometimes lots run out on the early dinner weekend side. This seems strange to me for a bar. 2) I had an issue with my food and the management resolved it w/o me asking about it 3) Slow service b/c there is generally just 1 server on the patio. So don't come here if you are in a rush, or order at the bar. 4) Smoked turkey is totally on point and not dry 5) Parking is tight in the lot or park on the streets This is really a Springfield dive secret and worth coming in for a local beer on tap and the smoked meats! read more

Has no curb appeal but don't let that stop you. The food is really all that and much more. The chef in the kitchen clearly has an incredible grasp on food! They do offer an enhanced bar menu specializing in smoke meats. We had the onion rings that are hand breaded and OMG!! Those are a must. For our main meal we ordered the pull pork and hand breaded pork tenderloin. We would order both again but so many other wonderful things to try when we go back. Tried this place after a hot afternoon at the Route 66 Festival. Come to find out it WAS the Twilight Inn many years ago! Great bar food and cold beer and cocktails. I've been coming here off and on for 3 years. I've had good and bad experiences. Lately, they have been good so it's time to review. Plus, I hate being that person at the table on their phone. I hate that. Try the pork, try the burgers, everything is fresh and they smoke their meets on site. They have great fries and homemade house chips. Yummy. This is a true dive bar with an amazing menu. Lots of bar food, bar food with a twist - get the Chili burger with green chili sauce, a fried egg and cheese. My mouth is now watering. They have some great salads and the greens have always been bright and crisp. The ambiance is baseball, football, hockey and dive bar. There is one pinball machine in the corner and a pool table. Inside there are booths and tables. Outside there are lots of tables. Some sit at interesting angles. Staff is friendly and efficient and knowledgeable of the local music scene. They have live entertainment several days a week. Great place to meet before/after a Springfield Cardinals game. Did I mention they have beer? Lots of it. The good stuff and the cheap stuff. I like beer and good food, I like this place. I would not try and drive a large vehicle behind the building to park. There's not much room to turn-around if there's not a parking spot and really tight to back out if there is. We park in front or across the street in the evening. read more

The Dugout doesn't look promising when you walk in...The parking lot is tiny, and doesn't go all the way around--you better be good at three point turns in order to get out! You have to walk onto the patio to get into the front door, just fyi. The restaurant itself is dark and dusty and the windows are sealed shut with packing tape. However, you will be pleasantly surprised. The service is fast and the staff is nice-I ate lunch here on a break from jury duty, and there were no issues with getting our food or checks in a timely manner. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, which is stuffed with pulled pork, ham, mustard, and pickles. It was more than enough food and I ate every last bit. I am not ashamed. There were only a few weird fatty clumps of pulled pork, and it wasn't highly seasoned. I wanted onion rings with my sandwich, and even though fries, chips, and onion rings are all the same price on the menu, it cost me an extra dollar. Minor, I know, but still a little irritating. I also wouldn't really call them onion 'rings'--they are more like onion straws, but there is a pile of them and they are delicious. I ordered a side of ranch with them, and I am absolutely ordering it that way again. So tasty! My lunch buddy had the turkey sandwich, and it was about the size of a dinner plate. The meat was thick cut (I heard they smoke it all out back?) and dripping with cheese and avocado. There was so much filling to her sandwich that she had to pick up the filling with her hands and eat it that way. The homemade chips she got looked delicious too. They have a pretty good beer selection and a nice covered patio out front...definitely a place I would like to go and plow through some onion 'rings' and a couple pitchers of beer. read more

I have been here several times. The first few times were not long after it opened and the place was great. It typically wasn't very busy, the staff was friendly and the service was prompt. The last few times I've been there, the place has been packed (which is good for them and I don't mind) but they have been severely understaffed. This has caused the level of service to decline sharply. Example: this last time, it took us about 35 minutes just to get our drinks. The food was still pretty good, but I can't justifiy this kind of service. And I don't think it is the waitress's fault, I think they need to hire more staff. Any way, I probably won't be going back for a while, not until I hear that they've redeemed this problem. read more

I have worked in the restaurant, sales and service industry for 20+ years and based on the experience here I would recommend them to anyone. Bartenders were great, it a local 'dive', yet a good mix of beers and a really good cook.
