The value of the pizza, the quality and the kind professional service deserves a 5 star. Large pizza (wish I had a measuring stick but I think it's well over 16") was massive and costs around $40. Taste could use some improvement in terms of crust being a little less tough, more soft and a little more salt and sugar in it may help. Quality of the toppings could also use some upgrades but love the large cuts of bell pepper, mushrooms, and red onion in the combo nation. 4.5/5 for value. Small pizza very cute around 9" $10-15. The size also makes for a smaller and fluffier crust. 4.5/5 Salad was solid- had salami, deli meat, pepperoncini, and olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers. 4/5. My family and I recently visited Retro Pie, and we were incredibly impressed from start to finish. As newcomers to the area, we're always excited to find great local restaurants, and Retro Pie definitely exceeded our expectations. The first thing that stood out was the atmosphere. The aesthetic is fun, unique, and inviting. The restaurant has a beautiful mural representing the local community, classic arcade games like Frogger, a full bar, and plenty of seating that feels perfect for gathering with family and friends. It's the kind of place where you can comfortably sit, relax, and enjoy your meal. We ordered the Buffalo wings, house salad, cheesy garlic bread, and the Hula Pie pizza. Every item was outstanding. The house salad was generously sized for a personal salad and incredibly fresh. It was loaded with ingredients that many restaurants tend to skimp on, including cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, Gorgonzola beans, and house-made croutons. The croutons were especially delicious--you could immediately tell they weren't store-bought. The Buffalo wings were cooked perfectly. They were crispy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelmingly spicy. The cheesy garlic bread deserves its own recognition. It was packed with herbs, covered in gooey cheese, and large enough to be a meal by itself. Honestly, I could come back just for that! As for the Hula Pie, it was fantastic. The red sauce was rich and flavorful, and the pizza itself was a great example of how Retro Pie takes classic pizza concepts and gives them a modern twist. Despite the retro theme, there's nothing old-fashioned about the quality of the food. The service was excellent, the restaurant was spotless, and every interaction we had was friendly and welcoming. We also enjoyed their cucumber-infused water, which was refreshing and a nice touch. Great little pizza joint. We came by to try the slice and drink deal while we waited for my niece to get out of high school near by. They have available parking and the decor makes this place really interesting. Pizza was good. We all got pepperoni but deep dish and the regular way. I'm unsure if refills for the drinks are available because they only brought the pizza and drinks to us after they warmed the pizza, so that was mainly the only interaction we had with the service, ordering and it being delivered to us. Nothing to complain about with fast service anyways. They give a number and you choose where to sit Small groups can enjoy but available seating seems more for solo or couples. Finally got a chance to try Retro Pie and it was well worth the wait!! We arrived on a Thursday just shy of 5PM and it was already busy and by the time we left the place was full. We had the Cheesy Garlic Bread, a 10" Hecka Meat Pie and a 10" Spicy Vodka Pie and loved it all. There were only two of us but we just wanted to give a few things a try and took the leftovers home. Crust was perfect! It was thin and a little crisp when you bite into the slice. Spicy Vodka definitely was a favorite and will be part of our regular order. The staff was friendly and accommodating and even the owner was pitching in. We got to meet Lulu and she was a pleasure and we could tell how proud she was of her establishment. There were retro video games from the 80's and kept the young customers busy while they waited for their food. TV's had sports on and there was plenty of seats at the bar top. If it weren't for the fact that you can visibly see the oregano, I'm not sure I would have ever known it was there. I was so excited to finally try Retro Pie. We decided to go with slices and drinks (slice alone $5, slice with drink $6- great price!) We each tried something different (pepperoni, cheese and triple something with pesto, red sauce, white sauce). Each were very good. It's a god thing I checked my order as they forgot the chicken and the salad dressing was the smallest dressing I had ever seen for a family sized Ceaser salad. I can understand a few minutes, but I ended up waiting for another 20 minutes to get my order. So, the expected 5:20pm order wasn't ready until 5:45. Inexcusable. The place was moderately busy, but there wasn't too much effort on the staff to accommodate the wait. Was told one was ready, but the other was still in the oven, which would have been ok, but it was pretty obvious that they were both just starting, cause it shouldn't take an extra 20 minutes to make. All I could do was wait. Wasn't offered a drink, so I just stood there watching the TV. The place still seems new, with a bar and a handful of tables for dine in. Took the order home, the offered grated parmesan, peppers and ranch along with plates and napkins for the takeout order. As for the pizza itself, the combo wasn't anything special and I probably could have been just as satisfied with the Costco combo pizza and gotten 2 of them for the same price as 1 here at Retro Pie. The Hecka Meat pizza, unfortunately did not have hecka meat. It was a medium size, but would only be good for 2 people max. It'd probably be better to take advantage of the lunch time slice deal than to order a whole pie as $50 plus tip for 2 pizzas wasn't the best price point, especially when the ready time wasn't accurate. Just tried Retro Pie last night and -- I'm hooked. We ordered the Cali Burnin with fresh jalapeños and hot honey and MAN... this pizza is FIRE. Totally my kind of pie -- spicy and flavorful. When I ordered, they said it would take about 45 minutes, and they weren't lying. It does feel like a long wait (the place smells amazing, which doesn't help the patience ), but honestly? Grab a couple of beers and chill -- it's 100% worth it. The owner even came out to check on us and chat for a bit, which was super cool and made the whole experience even better. This was mine and my husband first time here. It was okay. We really liked the music and decor. Being 80's babies, it was nostalgic. When we first arrived, we were not greeted. There were a few patrons at the bar, one family with a dog, and another couple that looked as if they were talking to the owner/ manager. She never acknowledged us. It wasn't really clear if we had to wait to be seated or if we ordered at the counter and then sat. We decided to go to the counter. Started looking over a menu that was on the counter. A guy from the back came out and said we could take it to any open table to review and come back to order. The pizza selection on the menu was awesome. Saw that there were salad, appetizers and dessert options, but no drink list. I don't remember seeing a drink list on the digital menu above the counter either. We ordered the Hickory Hen and two sodas. Pizza took about 18 mins. The pie itself was delicious. Good ratio of sauce to toppings. The crust was delicious, nice and crispy. Not burnt. As we were wrapping up, a family came in with two kids who spotted the dog. It was the dog's bday. The dog got excited and peed some on the floor. A bit unsanitary. The dog's owner did clean it up. Update 8/2025 Visit 2 (3/5 stars) I had found out that they only do pizza by the slice for lunch around 12. Unfortunately, this was the main thing keeping them at a 4/5 for me. Anyways I had ordered over the phone, for dine in, their white sauce pizza, La Luna, with added chicken and bacon. On that note, I was given a price over the phone, and the total for the pizza ended up being more because they left off the up charges for the chicken and bacon. I don't think it was intentional, but an oversight because they are still new and working out the kinks so I won't hold this part against them this time. What solidifies them as a 3/5 though was the actual pizza itself. In general, I love white sauce, pizzas. The upside was that they didn't seem to really skimp on the ingredients. There was a fairly generous portion of sauce, cheese and chicken. The crust was NOT overdone like their slices so this was definitely a plus. As for the downsides, there were a couple. The generosity of the ricotta is nice but instead of having small dollops throughout, they had big some big globs that didn't heat well so they were just a bit lukewarm. It was also lacking in flavor as a whole. The chicken was a tender and moist but bland. It had chunks of garlic which tasted great but that flavor was isolated to those chunks. The sauce as a whole while great in terms of portion lacked any flavor. Had it not been for the bacon to provide flavor, I think I would have stopped at just 1 or 2 slices tops. Not sure if I mentioned it in the initial review but they have a bar counter where they have beer on tap as well as some cans from their fridge. Bartender was friendly and attentive as well btw. Now to set your expectations, while they have tables they are not a traditional sit down restaurant; they are fast casual so you will go to the counter, order your food then seat yourself. I think this is a perfect setup for them just because they do by the slice. As for service, the person working the counter was pleasant and patient as she answered whatever questions I had. If I had 1 think to nitpick about its that they brought me 1of my 2 slices to my table while the other was still being heated. Not a HUGE issue, but just something I noticed. One thing that I appreciate is that they don't charge for ranch. At least for just a couple containers anyways. Dunno if that's just because I didn't ask for a lot for a whole pizzas worth or if it's just built into the cost of the food. On to the price. 1 slice is $5 and they have a special that includes a drink for I believe $1 extra (no up charge option if you try to buy a beer instead unfortunately). For the area especially, I think $5 for 1 slice is a bit steep especially considering a whole pizza was around $23 or so. You can get a whole hot n ready pizza at Little Caesars for what, $7.99 now? Not to compare quality, but it's something to think about. Granted the size of the slices are pretty decent at least. On to the food, had ordered their Deep dish pepperoni along with their regular classic pepperoni. I don't want to overly criticize them being that they are one of the only pizza by the slice shops that I know in the area (I haven't been to Happy Pizza in forever so I don't know if they, 1 still exist or 2 even offer that option anymore), but I'll try my best to be fair/honest here. I like pan pizzas as much as the next person but theirs was a bit of a letdown. It was so dense and tasted doughy as if it hadn't been fully cooked yet the cheese on the crust was a bit burnt, not just crispy but burnt. As for the regular pepperoni, it was reheated a bit too much. I can appreciate a pizza with some crisp to it but this too was overcooked. The bottom wasn't just slightly charred from the reheating it was fairly burnt. The edge/end crust was crispy as well too. Not necessarily a deal breaker but generally it's just not my thing, if you like that then you will like theirs. Flavor overall was well enough. I really liked that they use those mini pepperoni though. Overall I wanted this place to be a 4/5 at least but my review sounds like more of a 3/5. I might be a tad generous on this one because I can see the potential and want them to succeed so as of now I I'll keep it at a 4/5. I'm planning to come back and try a white sauce pizza. I have never waited over an hour for a pizza in my life. Ordered at 6:48pm and Pizza was brought out at 8:17pm. Back to the drawing board for this business. I don't know where they need to make improvements but you can't have customers sitting around over an hour for a pizza. Maybe you can invest in more ovens and/or more staff but this what you have right here, right now is not it! It's about 1 pizza coming out the back per 25 minutes. With so many new places popping up in Manteca it's nice to see nostalgic comforts come back. So let's get to it! We paid a little over $70 (can't remember the exact number) for a large pizza, a family size salad, one soda, and 2 seltzers. FOOD and Beverage: I know everyone is partial to how they enjoy their pizza, so this was my take - 5/5 for Retro Pizza overall. Their menu isn't too big, which I appreciated because when there are too many menu items I tend to get overwhelmed. This isn't to say they didn't have variety, they certainly did - it just wasn't a 100+ menu (which I appreciated). I was expecting a pretty standard run of the mill salad, I'm a fan of caesar salads so everything tastes okay in general, but THIS salad was amazing. The dressing is extremely flavorful and packed a good punch. That paired with their homemade croutons (YUM), their choice of parmesan cheese, and CRISP romaine was phenomenal. My only "gripe" being that the romaine was a little large and you have to put some effort in to cut it to get the perfect bite, but that's coming with the idea that I am bit of a glutton and wanted to shovel as much of the salad in my mouth as I could and the romaine being cut into larger pieces slowed this process. Still definitely worth it. It was delicious, fresh, and well portioned. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza and while everyone's taste buds are different, for me this was the best and now most preferred pizza in the Central Valley. If someone happened to be recording me when I took the first bite I probably looked like a cartoon character trying pizza for the first time. It was phenomenal. The crust isn't too thick or thin. There was an excellent distribution of sauce. The pepperonis somehow tasted familiar to what you'd notice on most pepperoni pizzas, but also somehow better. I'm not sure what they pick or maybe it's how they bake it, but it was very good. Finally the cheese on top paired with what would appear to be a signature blend of seasonings, bring al these wonderful flavors together to make a phenomenal blend of tastes. Loved it. I ordered a standard soda. They also have water available at a self-pour dispenser. My spouse ordered a seltzer. I can't remember which one, but he said he liked it. I'm not a big alcohol drinker, so that was neither here nor there for me. While we were there he was provided the opportunity to try a pineapple seltzer and he really liked that. I took a sip myself and found that I really enjoyed it as well. Again, I'm not a huge alcohol consumer, so I can't speak to this too much. But I will say I enjoyed the flavors. LOCATION: The inside of this place is the perfect blend of modern with retro 80/90s vibes. The photos of the inside of the location itself were actually what drew us in to try the place. As someone who devours anything from that nostalgic time period, I had so much fun looking at all the fun items. The location was extremely clean, spacious, and such a fun vibe. They have a large TV for those who enjoy watching sports (college football was playing when we got there) and a massive TV playing throwbacks and even music videos. They also had a machine to play video games. It was a DREAM. When we got there it was still pretty early in the day and a bit slow, but as it got later people began packing in and you could tell everyone was in a great mood and even singing with the music and enjoying great conversation. For me it was the most fun restaurant to be at in Manteca for sure. SERVICE: The service was received was great. Very patient staff as we had never been there before. Initially we didn't get too much interaction with them (no one's fault, just ordered and sat), but later on when my spouse went to the bar to get his seltzer, the staff were really kind and made conversation with him. During our time there we had the opportunity to speak with the owner and she is awesome. Really nice and personable individual. I think it's really cool when you enter a space someone has put forth a lot of intentional effort into and you meet the person behind it and it's a clear match up. Called in an order for a Hula Pie and Cali Burn that they said would be ready in 15 minutes. Hula pie wasn't ready when we arrived so we waited another 10 minutes. Inside was clean and I grabbed some cucumber water. We opened the pies when we got home and noticed there was no bacon on the Hula Pie. Turns out the bacon is more like bacon bits. The Hula Pie was also underdone and doughy. We had to air fry it to make it edible. Would not recommend the Hula Pie. The Cali Burn was tasty though, cooked through, and although I couldn't taste the sweetness of the hot honey I would still recommend if you like spicy food. read more
