The woman helping me had dark hair, glasses, and beautiful tattoos down her arm. I ordered the sandwich and was asked whether I wanted a bagel or sliced bread. I asked about the croissant, and she told me they were out. I said that sliced bread would be fine. When I noticed I was being charged an additional $1.50 for the bread, I politely asked why there was an upcharge. Her response was, "Because we're out of croissants." I asked what the substitute was, and she looked at me and said, "Nothing." At that point, I simply said okay and accepted the bread. She then asked a young man behind her to take over, and he was very polite and finished ringing me up. A few minutes later, I could hear the woman in the back ranting to the staff, and she eventually disappeared into the back. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, and I certainly don't expect perfection. However, as a longtime business owner myself, I know how important it is to treat customers with courtesy and professionalism--even when you're having a difficult day. This interaction was completely unnecessary. I wasn't rude or demanding; I simply asked a reasonable question about a charge. I hope management takes this as an opportunity to remind staff that how you treat customers matters just as much as the product you're selling.

I appreciated that the matcha was hand whisked instead of just quickly mixed together, which made it feel much more intentional and thoughtfully prepared. The latte itself was not overly sweet, although I personally would have liked a slightly stronger matcha flavor. Still, it was a great drink to walk around with while exploring the local shops and community around The Barlow. Between the atmosphere, the people, and the location, it's an easy place to keep coming back to whenever I'm in Sebastopol.

When she finally came to us, she was so nice and apologetic. Even with the slow service at first, her kindness and warmth made up for it. After ordering our coffee, a waffle, and a breakfast burrito, we found a nice table to sit at. Unfortunately, I quickly realized most of the food here seems to be made in the microwave. This was certainly a bummer; however, the food was still ok. The waffle must have been fresh, and it was the best thing we ordered. Despite the microwave food, Coffee and Moore was still a great, adorable cafe that we enjoyed. I am sure there are nicer or more hip spots in Sebastopol, but this was a great stop for us!

I also thought the pricing here was reasonable for great pastries. I have paid much more than what I paid at Sarmentine for less scrumptious pastries. The staff who helped me out were kind, and they offered some great recommendations as to what I should order. The inside/outside dining space is a great touch, and they have a great kids' area right outside as part of The Barlow. Worth the visit!

They have many classics, as well as some specialties like lavender, cinnamon, and ginger. I really enjoyed the lavender one. It was satisfying but also refreshing, all stuffed into a cookie. There isn't really anywhere to sit here, but I think it's more of a to-go place anyway. A beverage and cookie make a great snack to walk down the streets of downtown Sebastopol. This is also a great place for a gift. My grandma ended up grabbing some cookies as a gift for her neighbor, and they wrapped them up so nicely for her.

They also have another small private room but that was going to be used for a wedding cake meeting. Gergana is the owner and she greeted us warmly. She said she took over the patisserie in 2019. The other employees were very sweet and helpful. They provided us with a tea menu so we could select a tea from their varied tea menu. They returned with little pots of tea for each of us. There were many people dropping by to pick up a pastry and drink and others stopped by to pick up their cake order. The employees were efficient and quick to help everyone. They refilled our tea pots with hot water and checked on us throughout our time there. The desserts on the top level were our favorites. It came with a candle which was very sweet. The sandwiches on the middle level were chicken, egg salad and cream cheese with cucumber. Our favorite was the chicken salad. Overall, it was a fun experience to savor all of their small samplings and Gergana is there to ensure everything runs smoothly so that your time there is relaxing and extra special. She even gave us a hug as we were leaving. I look forward to visiting this local patisserie again for a cup of a tea and a beautiful pastry.

Each one of us got a different tea so I can't speak on those, but I ordered the camomile tea which was bright and soothing and went well with all the pastries. The other ladies seemed to really enjoy their teas as well. The tea sandwiches were light, my favorite was the chicken salad. The scones were moist and the butter/jams on the side complimented them. We also had the chance to try their white cake with strawberry jam which was fantastic. These ladies definitely know what they're doing!

Super cute, mismatched floral china, knickknacks everywhere, gorgeous flowers in the garden. We are on the terrace, which was lovely. The only drawback is that it's right on Main Street with a lot of traffic going by. The food was so good. We started with salad of the adults and crudite with homemade ranch with just a twang of spice to start. Then they brought out 3 tiered tea cake stands for each of us - a kids size, a regular, and a gluten free one. Everything was so delicious. A plate of 5 savory treats, each one more sumptuous than the next. A plate with a perfect scone with a tiny raspberry jam container, lemon curd, and clotted cream (my fav). Last tier had dessert, a chocolate cake with raspberry on top, a shortbread with white chocolate, and fruit. The shortbread cookie was the item I liked the least. They bring you a tea case so you can smell every option. We had grandma's garden, mint, and maple . All tasty. I wish we could have tried even more but they did refill each adorable teapot with more hot water. The price is quite high but it was a lovely way to celebrate. Will definitely come back again. Oh and they do takeout of treats so if you are nearby you can just come in for those.

**EDIT* As expected, Danielle will deny any accountability for her actions. No, we don't "both" know whatever you're claiming. You don't get to invalidate my lived experience which was extremely negative in your coffee store. And why would I come on here to "retaliate" if it "literally did not happen"? Your own explanation does not add up and it just reeks of a lousy, poorly-written cover-up. The only thing transparent about this is how transparently you're trying to manipulate the situation to take zero accountability and make yourself seem like a victim** My grandmother lives in Sebastopol and I have been to this coffee store a few times when I visit her. The owner of this coffee store, Danielle, does not create a welcoming atmosphere despite what she herself may believe (as the other reviews on this page will also tell you). I have not had a negative interaction with her during my visits before, but my last one left me w/ a bad taste of her store. I was in the store w/ my friend, and we were browsing through the greeting cards they have near the order and pick up counters. We were looking thru the diff cards they offer while we were waiting for our drinks, and Danielle marched up to us and started rudely lecturing us in front of her baristas and the rest of the store! She told us we were making a mess of her display, which is ridiculous. How is just picking up various diff cards and comparing them making a mess? Why do you even have these display stands if you don't want customers browsing thru them? I did not see any sign that says "Look, don't touch". Furthermore, she continued to rant at us about how we were blocking the pick up area. How else were we supposed to look at them, Danielle? Why do you have the card display so close to the pick up counter then? My friend got extremely uncomfortable (rightfully so) since she struggles with body image/size issues and Danielle's ranting at us in front of the whole store def did not help. But, Danielle did not have any empathy and self awareness despite my friend's obvious discomfort and lectured US about having "self awareness in a public space". We were flabbergasted at her hostility and meanness. Even if we were blocking the pick up counter (which we were not), a simple "Can you please move for a second?" would have sufficed. There was no need to demean us and lecture us like we were toddlers. As evidenced by the other reviews, Danielle will vehemently deny any wrong-doing and refuse to take accountability for the discomfort she caused. In fact, she will straight up just lie and claim that she does not recall any such encounter and will try to make you seem like a liar or crazy for calling her out on her behavior. She's done this to EVERY reviewer who has had negative interactions with her. Her barista saved us by finishing our drinks while she was STILL lecturing us. We quickly grabbed our drinks and left so that she can't continue to humiliate us. The coffee is pretty good, the store decor is cute, and most of the baristas working there are very pleasant. But Danielle makes going in there absolutely unbearable. It is a shame that one factor, the owner in this case, can just ruin what otherwise would be a great cafe. read more

I started coming to Retrograde when I moved to Sonoma County with my partner 2 years ago. I had grown up and lived most of my life in the busy East Bay and Sonoma County was a completely diff world. But, Retrograde made me feel so welcomed and right-at-home from the first visit and every visit since, of which there has been many. Retrograde embodies an aesthetic and authenticity that is rarely found, especially as a small business, which usually struggle to find their spirit and soul while also remaining commercially sustainable and competitive against multi-million dollar chains. However, Retrograde has achieved that sense of authenticity that is so exceedingly hard to grasp, esp. in today's digital world. While the drinks and food are obviously very good and consistently expertly crafted, Retrograde's real magic lies in the fact that they have successfully built a third place in the community, and they strive and succeed at putting a smile on people's faces, uplifting their mood on a bad day each time they come in, at least for me. read more

This coffee shop was really good overall. The coffee itself was solid and enjoyable, and the tiramisu was delicious and definitely a highlight. The barista suggested dipping the cookie into my coffee, so I dipped it a few times before I had to leave, assuming it would crumble like a normal tiramisu cookie. Instead, it fully absorbed the coffee and ended up looking like a little piece of shit sitting in my cup . I had a moment of genuine confusion trying to figure out where my coffee went, only to realize it was all soaked into this very questionable-looking cookie. My boyfriend and I have been frequenting this coffee house for over a year now, and I can confidently say it's the best in the county, possibly even the state. It's our absolute favorite place, and for good reason. The service, food, and coffee are all superb. The atmosphere is hip and welcoming, and the entire staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming to everyone. I'm genuinely surprised by the few negative reviews I've read here. Considering how often my boyfriend and I visit, twice a week at times, we've never had any negative interactions. We also appreciate that we're supporting a local business. Keep up the amazing work! They have a few tables outside with umbrellas, plus a large seating area inside with two rooms of tables, couches, high tops, and cozy seating areas to sit and chat. On entry, they have a large to go section with all their roasted beans and blended teas. We got all our items to enjoy there - various coffees and a few pastries made at a bakery nearby. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, talking us through exactly what we wanted. Being a weekend, it was a constant stream of happy customers, definitely a popular spot. It has always felt a little pretentious, a bit hipster, and kind of expensive. However, the coffee has always been solid. My issue with their new location in Santa Rosa just doesn't feel right. For one, I feel like it's just too pricy, especially for Santa Rosa. It's hard to justify paying $9 for a 12 oz latte. Also, the space they're using at Montgomery Village has kind of an odd layout. There's a long hallway from one end to the other and they don't have anything in that space. It just feels like a waste of space if you ask me. The service was good here. I had a miso Caramel latte with oat milk. I like this drink because the miso caramel they make is really unique. My nephew ordered a Vanilla Shakerato, which tasted good but didn't really taste like vanilla. Not sure if they forgot to put it in or they put something else in. In any case, I probably won't come back here because I can go to other coffee shops in the area that aren't as expensive.

The menu has depth and range... but the prices don't land for me. I had a vanilla bean shakerato off the special menu and it was outstanding. But nine dollars? You're inspiring all of your customers to home brew a lot more often. And the pastry options aren't inspiring, at least not to me. It's great to have this here in the Village. It's a brand name with great credibility. However, this is reserved as a special treat given that it's an expensive endeavor to patronize this particular shop. When my life meets the criteria, I'll be sure to enjoy every last drop.
