Tastes even better than it looks (which is lovely)!

Fun and funky little shop for my morning fix! I love finding these places while traveling and Retrograde didn't disappoint! Try the turmeric latte - house made turmeric cinnamon paste base, and wow you know it was house made!

A surcharge of 2.50 for bacon... and this is what it looks like .... Seriously... it's not even fresh bacon, it's microwaved.

Stopped to enjoy the downtown and wanted to try the local coffee shop. I loved that this shop has ample seating, because coffee shops should be gathering places! It is very inviting inside with local artists work on the walls, and a hip aesthetic. We ordered the gingerbread latte and it was divine! So yummy, and I appreciate that it was not too sweet. The bold coffee flavor was still there. I'd love to return and try more of their coffee menu and also their food menu. I loved that they had many vegan options. Service was fantastic. I'll definitely be back!

We stopped into Retrograde while exploring downtown Sebastopol, looking for a post-lunch pick-me-up. The space is inviting, with a large indoor seating area that looks perfect for setting up a laptop and getting some work done. Luckily we're on vacation this time but good to know if we need to work for a few hours on a future visit! Their pastry case was filled with tempting options--scones, croissants, and chocolate chip cookies that looked incredibly appealing. We were too full from lunch to try any, but they definitely caught our eye for next time. We ordered two large iced green teas from the friendly barista and received them before we finished paying! The drinks were refreshing and just what we needed for a hot, relaxing afternoon. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area!

Ordered a lavender latte, the taste wasn't bad! I wish there was less milk, but overall great taste and great service! Super friendly staff!

what I got from @retrograderoasters - banana pudding espresso (8/10) : coffee was good but the banana pudding tasted like water-down. - matcha with lavender & vanilla (5/10) : not enough flavor despite the add-ons. the place was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. would like to go again to try something new.

It's always nice to visit coffee spots further away from Bay Area for a change of scenery and more reasonable prices. Their seasonal specialty lattes start at $6 when I'm used to seeing them go for $7.50 on average back in SF. I gave their ube latte a try, but unfortunately, it didn't quite taste like ube. Honestly, it's not an easy thing to get right, and the drink was overall still well made and tasted fine, just not ube. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back for a different drink the next time I'm around!

Cold brew worth biking from Santa Rosa for!

I appreciated that the matcha was hand whisked instead of just quickly mixed together, which made it feel much more intentional and thoughtfully prepared. The latte itself was not overly sweet, although I personally would have liked a slightly stronger matcha flavor. Still, it was a great drink to walk around with while exploring the local shops and community around The Barlow. Between the atmosphere, the people, and the location, it's an easy place to keep coming back to whenever I'm in Sebastopol.

The woman helping me had dark hair, glasses, and beautiful tattoos down her arm. I ordered the sandwich and was asked whether I wanted a bagel or sliced bread. I asked about the croissant, and she told me they were out. I said that sliced bread would be fine. When I noticed I was being charged an additional $1.50 for the bread, I politely asked why there was an upcharge. Her response was, "Because we're out of croissants." I asked what the substitute was, and she looked at me and said, "Nothing." At that point, I simply said okay and accepted the bread. She then asked a young man behind her to take over, and he was very polite and finished ringing me up. A few minutes later, I could hear the woman in the back ranting to the staff, and she eventually disappeared into the back. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, and I certainly don't expect perfection. However, as a longtime business owner myself, I know how important it is to treat customers with courtesy and professionalism--even when you're having a difficult day. This interaction was completely unnecessary. I wasn't rude or demanding; I simply asked a reasonable question about a charge. I hope management takes this as an opportunity to remind staff that how you treat customers matters just as much as the product you're selling.

The staff who helped me out were kind, and they offered some great recommendations as to what I should order. I ordered an almond milk latte but was initially given regular milk. They remade it, though they seemed annoyed about the mistake. After spending over $40 and getting back to my car, I realized the remake was just steamed almond milk with no espresso at all. For a bakery with such a strong reputation and premium prices, I'd expect a little more attention to detail and a better customer experience.

The patisserie is cozy with a few tables inside and a few small tables on the patio. As you enter, you immediately see the glass case with beautiful pastries and cakes. So exciting to see all of their gorgeous creations in our little town of Sebastopol. We had reservations for 1:00 and they sat us at one of their small tables by the door. It worked but it wasn't the most comfortable seat in the house as people were walking in and out of the door and the pastry case was right next to us. There was a group of four near the far end and they offered to move us but then we would have been sitting right next to them. They also have another small private room but that was going to be used for a wedding cake meeting. Gergana is the owner and she greeted us warmly. She said she took over the patisserie in 2019. The other employees were very sweet and helpful. They provided us with a tea menu so we could select a tea from their varied tea menu. They returned with little pots of tea for each of us. There were many people dropping by to pick up a pastry and drink and others stopped by to pick up their cake order. The employees were efficient and quick to help everyone. They refilled our tea pots with hot water and checked on us throughout our time there. The desserts on the top level were our favorites. It came with a candle which was very sweet. The sandwiches on the middle level were chicken, egg salad and cream cheese with cucumber. Our favorite was the chicken salad. Overall, it was a fun experience to savor all of their small samplings and Gergana is there to ensure everything runs smoothly so that your time there is relaxing and extra special. She even gave us a hug as we were leaving. I look forward to visiting this local patisserie again for a cup of a tea and a beautiful pastry.

Super cute, mismatched floral china, knickknacks everywhere, gorgeous flowers in the garden. We are on the terrace, which was lovely. We started with salad of the adults and crudite with homemade ranch with just a twang of spice to start. Then they brought out 3 tiered tea cake stands for each of us - a kids size, a regular, and a gluten free one. Everything was so delicious. A plate of 5 savory treats, each one more sumptuous than the next. A plate with a perfect scone with a tiny raspberry jam container, lemon curd, and clotted cream (my fav). Last tier had dessert, a chocolate cake with raspberry on top, a shortbread with white chocolate, and fruit. The shortbread cookie was the item I liked the least.
