Visiting this coffee shop made my Saturday morning! What a great relaxed space with fun, colorful art and goods to buy from local businesses. They were having a weekend sale on coffee beans so I snagged some for a price comparable to bags you can buy at Whole Foods. The oat milk latte was delicious and breakfast sandwich hit the spot. For a coffee shop, they have a good selection of small breakfast items and sandwiches. Definitely appreciated the attention to GF and vegan options! Their mochas also have Tcho chocolate (local and delicious). The indoor space is large with lots of tables for working (wifi is free!) or chatting with friends. If you eat in they're back to in house mugs - woo hoo! Missed these during the pandemic. The prices here aren't cheap, but definitely less expensive than most coffee shops these days where it can be hard to find a latte under $5. If you visit Sebastopol, this is a must stop! read more

What a lovely coffee shop at the sebastopol! It's such a good thing to have a third wave coffee roasters in the area. I spent a day trip from south bay to this small town for lunch, gift hunting and last by not least, the coffee! I found this place on Yelp and quickly bookmarked this place. The coffee shop is very cozy and lots of seating inside and some seating at the front. There is a huge food menu but we didn't get to try it. Tried pour over of their ethopia natural processed and sulawesi, both are light roast and are amazing! We ended up buying those beans as well They do give a cup of coffee along a purchase, but i ended up getting a nitro and paying the price difference, the staff are friendly and very helpful. Why was Danielle The Co-owner of Retrograde Coffee so mean to me yesterday? Yesterday I was having a phone conversation with my editor at Retrograde, a café I have enjoyed as a customer since its inception, almost 10 years ago. I have had three interactions with Danielle Connor the co-owner. The first two was her complementing me. Notice when she responds to this she will lie and say I made an inflammatory phone call and also lie and say I made a habit out of hanging out in the hallway by the bathroom. I left the café to have a quiet space to talk to my editor. I humbly sat on the floor of the small hallway by the bathroom. Danielle abruptly appeared stood over me and said, very harshly, said that I needed to move because I would disturb the other offices. The hallway has several closed doors and I had never seen anyone open one of them. For all I knew the offices themselves were far from the doors. Nevertheless she had every right to simply tell me to me move, I quickly got up. She continued to be was harsh, staring me with those piercing blank eyes people get when they are very angry. My editor was still on the phone as a scrambled to get up. "I know you, I've come her for years, you are looking at me like you don't know me," I said to Danielle"I know you,"she said dismissively and as if that was besides the point. And continued to lecture me on the importance of not disturbing the people in the hallway as if I was arguing against that in any way and deserved a lecture about it. I have always been kind to and financially supportive of her business, treating me with anger and lecturing me. She is so bent on not taking responsibility for being harsh to me she is willing to lie about me. I am still open to doing a repair with her if their is a mediator so I feel safe and that I won't be attacked again. She lost a devoted customer because she took her missed place anger out on me. You will hear her rage in the tone of how she replies to this message. read more

Coffee outstanding, I am a purist I have to admit, so the espresso service with a glass of water is the bomb. Cappuccino delicious for sure, which is my go to. The bakery and food selections have always simply looked at me as mouthwatering and delicious but I have resisted so far. The cold brew jasmine green tea was light and smooth, so if you're looking for strong and bitter, this would not be your drink. Seating inside, outside on sidewalk, and courtyard in the back. Public bathroom available outside in the back, ask for code. Staff was helpful when I asked for something to fill water with for doggo. Water is self-serve, metal straws, creamer, milk, sugar available for your use. Would return if in the area to try one of their lattes. Stopped in for breakfast sandwiches on our way out of town. Egg, kale, and cheese on an English muffin. It was good but was lacking something. A spicy mayo would take it from basic to next level. But for $6 it was a worthwhile choice to get our day started. They have a vegan option available with house-made tofu that also sounded good. The food and drinks are wonderful, the folks working there are super friendly, and despite being very third wave it still has an old-school hippie cafe vibe, complete with rotating local artwork on the walls. Bonus points for great pastries, a solid breakfast sandwich, and the cold brew game is unmatched - they have a house blend, light roast, New Orleans style (which can be dairy-free), and a decaf cold brew. Plus they always have decaf drip in case its too late in the day for the real stuff. And it's not my thing, but my wife assures me their syrups and seasonal drinks are top notch. They roast tons of different single origin beans in-house and you get a free cup of drip when you buy a bag. I've probably gone through 40 since moving here. Sebastopol definitely has an overabundance of little hippie coffee spots, and each one better than the next. Retrograde is one of the newest is town but slowly becoming my favorite. It's my go-to coffee when I'm strolling down Main Street and need a little pick me up. The location is close enough to walk to when your doing some shopping, Yet far enough away that you'll find some convenient parking close by. In my numerous visits I've had nothing but positive experiences with Retrograde. The baristas are always so welcoming and friendly and happy to help me with my order. I went to order a cold brew and when I mentioned I wanted some added syrup in my coffee my barista, Danielle, recommended I order the Big Easy. Oh man, so tasty! It was very sweet yet I was still able to taste the richness from the cold brew. Highly recommend this drink on a hot day when you need a little sweetness in your life. Can't wait to return and try more off the menu! Additionally the cozy modern atmosphere in this place is prime for spending a few hours relaxing with a book or working on your computer.
