Stopped by here to try it for lunch, making sure ahead of time that there was no line. (We do not patronize restaurants that disrespect customers' time by not taking reservations and expecting customers to wait in line.) My 2pc White Meat chicken, two biscuits, and my wife's beet Reuben sandwich were good. The sandwich was maybe a little special and its bread was very good, but the chicken was about the same as I get at Popeye's. Moist, crispy and seasoned breading, etc. The flavor was slightly different of course but not any better or worse than Popeye's. They offer both a standard breading and a "Tennessee Hot" breading, so I asked for one piece each to try. Nope. Server said they get this request a lot but the kitchen refuses to do it. Really? "Arrogant" is the word that comes to mind. How hard can it be to roll two pieces of chicken in two different batters before frying them? The front door announced a 20% surcharge was in effect and included some mumbo-jumbo about Minnesota law. I'm supposed to think that the law somehow requires this? The notice also said that the 20% was not a tip, implying that tipping was still expected. I actually like the service charge model that we see when traveling internationally, but where it is charged tipping is unnecessary. When the bill came, though, the 20% was there but there was no place to add a tip. So I just signed and we left. Oh, and on a 90+deg. day there was no air conditioning inside. Not available or turned off, I don't know. Bottom line: Another over-hyped and mildly arrogant restaurant with good but not outstanding food. I can get this level of food and better without the dose of arrogance. One and done. read more

Revival is one of my favorite restaurants for some great comfort food! The folks at Revival really know how to elevate traditional fried food. The fried green tomatoes are one of my favorite dishes! The preparation is fantastic and the sauce is perfection. The variety of other side dishes offered, don't disappoint either (except the hush puppies, those are a bit overrated, if you ask me). The chicken is delish (obviously), but the sides are what really stand out to me. They also have a pretty wonderful burger. Truly, the biggest negative about Revival is that the space is small so you can expect a long wait. As long as you plan accordingly, you won't be disappointed. read more

Came here at 7 pm on a Sunday night and got seated immediately. Had a Paloma that was delicious while my date had an old fashioned that he also enjoyed. They clearly prefer natural lightening which was nice in the early evening however I felt the restaurant was overall too dark when the sun went down. Luckily, the food was so delicious I stopped caring about the lighting! The best thing we ate was the burnt ends tostada appetizer - huge portion and amazing flavor! The Tennessee hot chicken was juicy and saucy, tasty but very filling. The collard greens are quite sweet and were not my favorite. Was in the area and stopped by for lunch with the bf, and boy am I glad I did. We got the southern fried half chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese and to top it off the pretzel crusted chocolate mousse pie. I prefer dark meat so the drumstick was amazing, the breast was a little on the drier side. The collard greens were standard but the Mac and cheese was the perfect amount of cheesy and runny. The pie was phenomenal. The two hot sauces were a little too sweet for my liking so I asked for their only non sweet one, which was the ghost pepper one. I just went last night too to try their Revival burger, which I would say is one of the best in the Twin Cities in my experience! It was perfectly cooked, rich and juicy, and it went quite well with the 2 sauces that accompany most of Revival's dishes. Their space is a little small though so just a heads up if you're planning to go with a large group. Thankfully I was able to find a seat for myself just fine at the bar. Their service was fast too! We had the two piece chicken of regular southern fried and Tennessee hot. The Tennessee hot was the perfect blend of spice and crunch. When you're craving fried chicken and are in Minneapolis this is the place to go. I had the breakfast sandwich which is pretty much chicken and waffles on steroids. Now I'm not proponent to steroids. Not in my food and not in myself. But If the breakfast sandwich is a steroid, I want it every morning. It comes with a side as well, but I have no idea how anybody could finish the sandwich and eat a side. This isn't your hands to mouth sandwich. This is a fork and knife sandwich. Two waffles with fried chicken in the middle and an egg on top. But wait it's also covered in gravy and syrup. I'm not usually a fan of chicken and waffles, but if you couldn't tell, I AM A FAN! Not only is the food good, the wait staff is also very attentive. We sat at the bar and were warmly welcomed with a detailed review of the menu and some good recommendations. I saw this place on some Yelp profiles, I bookmarked it to try and then I was watching a food blog on YouTube and they went here and I knew this was the place to take the family. This place is in South Minneapolis, not a terrible area but in the winter the streets can get narrow and hard to park. Parking was on street parking and lock your car. Revival is on the NE corner of the intersection, the signage doesn't pop, so look closely. This is a small restaurant and it is tight with fairly long wait times but no one seemed to care and everyone was smiling and having a good time. We came just after lunch time on a Sunday and the place had a wait for the entire time we were there. Watching the food go by as people were served made your tummy rumble. Everything looked delicious. They have a hostess with an I-pad that watches the door and knows the order that you came in, greeted you and put you on a digital waiting list that texts you when your table is nearly ready. It works well. We were seated. The menu is simple and plain. It could use a face-lift. Some things I didn't know what they were so a description would be nice. It seemed like most sides were $6. We got the sides of Mac and Cheese, Mashed Potatoes and Biscuits. They were all $6 each. The Mac and Cheese ruled supreme,it was the best side, a must get. The potatoes were good with a white gravy on them. The $6 biscuits comes with only 2 biscuits, they are cheesy biscuits which are good but not the best value. We got the sides to go with the star of the show, the Southern Fried Chicken, we got the whole bird, 10 pieces because they split each breast. They brought out 2 sauces. We were told that the dark sauce was good in the Mac and Cheese and the other sauce was good on the Chicken, and they were. I paired with a glass of wine that they say was brought here because of the great pairing with the Chicken. It is a bubbly white wine that was light and crisp. It was $10 and my photo of my wine shows you how much that you get. The wine is called Jazzy Belle, you don't get much for $10. They had a clear liquid on the table with some tiny peppers that resemble green beans, not sure what you use it on but it was a nice spicy sauce. I asked and they called it Asian Pepper Sauce. They also have dessert but we were stuffed. Our waiter kinda crashed and burned at the end where he kept ignoring us and not bringing the bill. I waited patiently for a while and then got the attention of another server to ask our guy to come back with the bill and a box for the rest of the chicken. No way we are leaving any of that chicken behind. It was so crisp, crunchy and juicy. I heard the sauces were made to go well with the chicken crust to not make the chicken soggy at all. I'm a huge fan of the menu, the commitment to creating an authentic fried chicken experience - it's their focus on high-quality chickens, delicious sauces, and perfectly matching sides. There aren't a lot of places in the Twin Cities where you can even find chefs looking to perfect the fried chicken experience, so I salute this place for trying and executing so well. The problems: the beer menu is somewhat small, the wait times are ridiculous and usually not worth it, and the restaurant is small and feels over-packed. The only sucky thing about this place is that they don't take reservation but because this place is always crowded and full of people that's probably best not to have access to reservation. You've heard it before, so I'm just another one chiming in... get the fried chicken. It's delicious. We also had Mac and cheese, cheese biscuits and their house pickles. I could have eaten the entire bowl of pickles on my own. Mac and cheese was pretty good. Biscuits were swell, but thought they were slightly overpriced. The chicken was the real star. I really enjoyed the sweet potato hot sauce on the table. My only real complaint is that I would have loved an actual plate. Our group of three had the whole bird and sides, and trying to eat fried chicken on a side plate covered with bones is impossible. I just ate here for the first time. I've been wanting to try this place forever. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the food. I got the chicken and waffles and it was AMAZING! My husband got the 2pc Tennessee Hot chicken with Mac & Cheese. His chicken was a little too spicy for me but was still good. The mac & cheese is rich but good. The 2 reasons that I didn't give 5 stars were that it is EXTREMELY LOUD and hot inside. When we walked out, it felt like walking out of a concert...where everything sounds muffled and it takes a bit for your ears to adjust. My husband said it smelled bad in there to him but I didn't smell it. I know others have mentioned the smell on their reviews so I was halfway expecting it but i didn't smell it. I was really excited to try Revival! Though the food was tasty and service was good (especially at the bar!), there were still a few noticeable areas for improvement. I went with 2 girlfriends on a Tuesday evening. We only had to wait about 20-30 minutes, which was awesome! I don't care that you planned to eat your weight in fried chicken-- this burger will change your life. 2. Biscuits & sorghum butter: I'll admit I was a bit nervous about WTF sorghum butter was. But the biscuit was perfectly flaky and the butter added such a great flavor. 3. Southern fried chicken: By now you know that Revival understands how to properly fry chicken. Unfortunately, our serving was a bit overcooked. The meat was moist and delicious, but the breading had an unfortunate burnt flavor. Sigh. Hope that this is not the norm. 4. Mac & Cheese: Very rich. Not enough crunch for my taste-- this dish could really benefit from some crusty bread crumb. 5. White Cole Slaw: was hoping for some vegetable to balance out my meal, but this was just mayonnaise. The restaurant itself is really cute, but quite loud. I think they could benefit from investing in some sound-deafening panels. We also found the menu to be a bit disconnected & confusing. I appreciate any business that's trying to make it during this pandemic and am doing my best to support local restaurants. Since there is a ton of hype about Revival, I was excited to try it. Revival: Please for the love of god get a better ordering system. We ordered online and received an email stating that the food would be ready approximately 30 minutes later. Nope. Not only was it not ready (fine, I can stand outside for a bit, even in the rain), but we had to stand outside for an extra 35 minutes. Then, when another customer asked what the holdup was, the woman handing out orders replied, "Fried chicken takes a while." Um, okay, then why did you tell everyone it would be 30 minutes? That said, it truly wasn't the amount of time I had a problem with -- I easily could have worked around that especially if I'd known ahead of time -- but it's the attitude. The arrogance of making customers stand out in the rain (while masked and in the middle of a global pandemic nonetheless) and then not even offering an apology or acknowledgement of the situation. Again, I strongly suggest that Revival get a better ordering system. In the 8 weeks I've been here I've ordered from many great places and they all do better than you. Stepped into this place Sunday evening after finding it on an IG page I believe called something like foodiempls. So the boyfriend and I decided to try it out since we're fat like that :) There is street parking not too far so it wasn't hard at all to park and get there. The place is kind of small. I could hear their conversations and barely my own so I didn't want to talk much to my boyfriend till every one left. We ordered half bird of the Louisianan chicken, mac& cheese, white cheddar grits, pork rinds, biscuits, and hush puppies. We like to go all out when we eat and we did exactly that. Everything was seriously delicious. I don't know why I had the impression the chicken was going to be on top of some waffles but they are on toast instead, but still very yummy. It was moist, juicy, and crispy. There was tons of flavor and spice. It got a little too spicy for me at one point but nothing too unbearable. I'm not sure if my taste buds were off but the pork rinds tasted extremely buttery/oily lol but they were good with the cheese sauce. Hush puppies are one of the best I've had so far. The mac and cheese was cheesy heaven. Biscuits were delicious. My mouth was dryer than my legs in the dead of winter. This place is all the rave! We were searching for a soul food restaurant and to no avail we settled for Revival; it didn't disappoint. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was as busy as could be expected. We sat at the bar and told that their system was down. Knowing this, I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff as they navigated around each other despite the issues with their computer system. Our server was personable and kind. She offered her personal recommendations and enlightened us on what some of the menu items were. My partner and I both ordered the fried chicken. This brings me to my first criticism. The menu was incredibly limited to chicken or burgers. This was odd cause the menu I saw the day before included ox tails, shrimp and grits and pork shoulder. This is disheartening cause I didn't want fried chicken. Anywho, the food was solid. The texture of the chicken was good and the taste was solid. Was it he best friend chicken I've ever had? By no means, but it was definitely worth trying. The sides were good. We ordered macaroni and cheese, cheddar grits, collars greens and hoppin' john. Mac and cheese was good. Needed some pepper and almost too creamy. It could've baked a little longer and been perfect. Greens were good. They were cooked well and leafy. I didn't like that they clearly put sugar in the greens. Cheddar grits were good. No criticism there. Hoppin' John was different but tasty. NOTE: these sides are big enough to share between two people. We spent too much money ordering individual sides that we could've shared. From a value perspective. Meh. I'm indifferent. There are no words that can accurately describe how spectacular Revival is and how in love the food will make you feel after eating here. With each visit I become more and more addicted and there's no going back. The food is, of course, the complete star of the show. Whether you get the chicken or decide for the burger, you will not be disappointed. The Southern Fried chicken is the phenomenon that started it all. It's fried to an absolute perfection; the crispy, crunchy crust surrounding the juicy, soft meat, explodes with flavor as you bite into it. It's everything a good fried chicken should be and so much more. You won't want to wait to take another bite. Recently we've tried the Tennessee Hot which I've been avoiding since I'm a huge sissy when it comes to spicy foods and as I feared, it was spicy as hell, yet still delicious somehow. If you're not as weak as I am, you'd love it. Now the burger! My GOD!! You might have heard claims such as "it's the best burger in Twin Cities". Those would be totally correct. No exaggeration here, just a really deliciously juicy perfection. It's like biting into a cheesy, perfectly seasoned dream. Now you can choose how many patties you'd like on your burger with one, two, and three being the options. Choose THREE! Do it! It's a complete foodgasm in a bun; all the cheesy goodness, charred patties, bread & butter pickles, and the flavorful sauce...a masterpiece of a burger you will actually keep thinking about weeks after. If you opt for the original two patties then I suppose that's alright, the burger will still be out of this world and you might have more room left for the magical mac and cheese. If you opt for just one patty then we cannot be friends and I don't trust you as a human being. I could spend all day writing about how delicious every single item at Revival is. You cannot go wrong no matter what. The highlights are the previously mentioned mac and cheese which is pretty much a pot of yummy, bubbly hot gold. Saying it's the best mac and cheese I've ever had in restaurant is an understatement. The appetizer of dry rubbed wings is also excellent, brings a great portion to share with the table, and is a perfect start to your meal if you want some chicken on top of your fried chicken later [because enough is not enough at Revival]. Recently we've deteriorated from the classics and tried the Chicken & Waffle Breakfast Sandwich during brunch and it completely exceeded expectations. The waffle was soft and ideally complimented the crunchy chicken topped with the most savory gravy and sunny side up egg. As far as the sandwiches go, the chicken thigh sandwich is probably, again, the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. It's just superb! Revival doesn't take reservations and you better count on the fact that there will most likely be a wait for a table no matter when you decide to show up. It's just that popular and absolutely worth the wait, too! Don't get discouraged by the small space either. I remember I hated how close together the tables are to each other on my first visit but then I took a bite of the food and all worries and issues disappeared into thin air. The tiny space definitely does make it cozy and adds to the homey feel of the place. The interior is colorful and has almost a 60s vibe with the contrasting light wood floor and dark wood tables complimented by the mustard yellow walls with flowers. The staff is just as welcoming and warm as the restaurant itself. The service has always been excellent and top notch and it's just an overall pleasure to dine here. Revival prides itself on my list of Top 10 restaurants in the cities and honestly, it's probably never going to NOT be on that list. If you live in the Minneapolis area and enjoy food, chances are you've heard of Revival. There is a not a lot of bad things to say about this place. People go for different reasons... Rather it's for their burger, Mac and Cheese, Fried chicken, or their cheese curds, you really can't go wrong. We have experienced Revival a few times and we try to get something new every time. Fried Chicken is amazing. It's basic, so it is a hard one to review with detail. Just something you have to try and see for yourself. The Burger is a must have every time we visit. It is one of their famous dishes and definitely a contender for one of the best burgers in Minneapolis. Make sure to add bacon!! Mac and Cheese is a side that is probably the most popular on their menu. Don't know how they prepare it but it lives up the hype. Thick and creamy that goes great with any of the main dishes. We tried the JonnyCakes for the first time this visit and they were a perfect app. It was a little strange seeing pancakes on the app menu but the combo of sweet and salty was a perfect way to get the appetite rolling even more. We got the glazed carrots and and white slaw for the sides as well with our dinner. Pretty basic and noting spectacular but they were both satisfying. Have to get some healthy veggies in with this meal! So many great things on their menu and you really can't go wrong with anything (that's our opinion with the things we have tried so far). The only thing I would say that kind of sucks about this place is the wait. Always have to wait an hour or more. We would suggest going during the week and going before 6 so you beat the rush. read more

I'm not sure about the hype of this restaurant. We were in the area and decided to get take out. Extremely overpriced. The hamburger was good. $12 good. No way. The area has lots of GREAT hamburgers places. $12 for a burger the size of a kids burger at McDonalds. The chicken waffles again nothing special. The hush puppies were a greasy mess that tasted like they just fried their left over corn bread. I was expecting some exciting favors but just corn meal. The sauce was orange grocery store tartar sauce. The Mac and cheese was again uninspired. Everything was just blah. Not the food you would expect for the price, 4 star rating, and other restaurants in the area. I'd recommend dining elsewhere. read more
