I have a dentist who is pretty unconcerned with my gum issues, but my gums are receding and I'm in a losing battle with my oral health so I called this office to inquire about being a patient and was told they wouldn't accept me without getting a referral from my dentist. I literally started crying on the phone and she could care less. Then I hopped on Yelp and see all their negative reviews and I guess I dodged a bullet here.

Let me start by saying my Free Gingival Graft was the first "surgery" I have ever had. Coming from…read morea woman with a pretty strong dental anxiety, and even more so just anxiety in general, let me tell you, I was legitimately scared, anxious, and nervous when I found out from my dentist this procedure was going to have to happen sooner than later. I had my consultation 2 weeks ago. The office is beautiful, peaceful, and actually relaxing. Dr. McKenzie is my provider, Amy was my assistant, and Debbie my Treatment Coordinator during that visit. They knew I was incredibly nervous and skeptical, but it was more than obvious they know what they are doing. Dr. McKenzie has a great bedside manner, as well as Amy (who really needed to distract me while taking my impression for my stent) and was able to provide answers to all of my questions since this first meeting. Amy and Debbie were also incredibly patient, kind, and knowledgeable. It did not take Dr. McKenzie long at all to realize exactly what procedure I needed done, and of course I already knew with my research, answer-seeking and overthinking. Ha! I went over the procedure, payment/payment options, and my mountainous list of questions during the consultation and was able to get scheduled for the following week, so here we are, my first surgery scheduled! I probably called Debbie 4 different times for questions and an early RX request (to ensure I would have it the night prior). Once again, happily answered all of my questions and was kind, patient, and even funny! I loved working with Debbie and would highly recommend her and her team! The day of procedure, I got there 15 minutes early, bright and early at 6:45. My parents went with me since I was getting IV sedation, but also nerves of course. So when they called me back and sat me down, I was probably the most nervous, because hey, anxiety. However, Dr. McKenzie came in to answer any more questions and made me feel better about the whole procedure. Amy, and the anesthesiologist also did, and told me exactly what would happen, as I have never been sedated like that before. They told me it was normal for my heart rate to be high, hey, anxiety again, and it would be over before I knew it. When I got the IV, that is actually the last thing I remember, and before I knew it I was up and the procedure was done. It took 45 minutes. IV sedation - highly recommend if you have dental anxiety, or anxiety at all! Lets talk about the pain now, this was one of my many concerns. I have a decent pain tolerance but when it comes to my mouth, hey that's a sensitive place! With my procedure, they removed tissue from the roof of my mouth and sewed it onto my front gums for the graft. It sounds horrible - yes. However, I was not aware of any of this happening. Once again - grab that IV sedation while it's hot. I did not feel any pain on the roof of my mouth until the next day, and with the pain medicine RX, it definitely helped. I took that and Advil throughout the healing process. The gums were a bit sore for a few days, but to be completely honest, so much less sore than I thought! I was also provided a stent which TRULY protects and limits your pallet pain. I am baffled at how any providers would not opt for providing this piece of the healing process. For the first few days, you want to stick with cold + soft foods such as ice cream, applesauce, shakes, smoothies - but they will give you all of this information ahead of time. Also, I miss pizza. Dr. McKenzie not only called to check on me the day after my surgery, I was able to text him questions a few days later and he responded right away. Longest Yelp review yet but my view on this surgery has changed completely, thanks to the patience, knowledge, and way my experience went with Dr. McKenzie and his team. Thank you!

I was referred to the Fuquay-Varina location by my general dentist for an 8mm periodontal pocket…read more What should have been a straightforward consultation turned into one of the worst medical experiences I've had. First, they insisted on running X-rays they already had from my referring dentist. Then the real pressure started. They would not let me leave the office without scheduling surgery and putting down a deposit. I was not given a treatment plan until I verbally agreed to "consider" the work. The quote was $10,000, insurance covered $2,500, and they expected the remaining $7,500 out of pocket with no write-off. I have a documented sound sensitivity and specifically asked about sedation options -- what would be used, would I feel anything. No one in the office could give me a clear answer. Despite this, they continued pushing me to commit on the spot. The pressure triggered an anxiety attack, and there was zero attempt to accommodate or de-escalate. After the visit, a staff member named Amber called to follow up despite my explicit request not to contact me by phone. She ignored my boundary and told me she would "follow up Friday" and repeated that I "need this." This practice prioritizes billing over patient care. If you're being referred here, get a second opinion first. I refused the deposit and I'm glad I did.

I was going in for a gum graft. They wanted to charge me an insane amount (either 3 or 4k). After pricing it out in other locations, this price was inflated and probably not true to market value for the procedure even for being out of network. The staff who greet when you walk in ask you to pay everything up front and they WILL ask you to review them midway through the procedure when you are all numbed up. I would be shocked to see any reviews here that are post-procedure or 3 months to 4 months after. Not to mention when they took 6 months to run it through insurance. I had to call them everyday until someone did anything. The front desk associates might as well be high schoolers, they seemed super immature and lacked knowledge to even do the simplest tasks. Honestly, their place is beautiful on the inside but too bad I'm not going for the atmosphere.

The…read moredonor graft clearly failed but at the time I didn't understand what was happening and I already had a lot of anxiety about it so I was just trusting him. I just felt weird about it and each time I asked him if it was normal he said it was. He even told me at the six week post op appt to "don't worry about it don't look at it just leave it alone" and ever since then I had two dentists and one hygienist tell me that I need gum graft surgery, and when I told him I had it done they were each surprised.. so that was my first hint that I was right, and then they also pointed out things that he said "were fine" were not. I'm about to have the procedure again with a different periodontist that has made me feel like I am heard, not brushed off like a bug off on someone's shoulder. I walked into Adam's office knowing that I had at least three teeth on top that had recession but to my surprise, he only pointed out one so I went with it. This new doctor immediately pointed out the three on top without me saying anything. Long story short this taught me to always get a second opinion and to go with your gut.

I strongly recommend Dr. Adams if you are looking for a periodontist.

First they sent me a bill from an appointment that was 6 months prior for charges that I had no knowledge of - they backtracked and said they don't take my insurance anymore and I needed to pay it. No, that's not how this works! I paid what I was supposed to pay when I was there, they wanted even more after 6 months?!? The way I found out was when my daughter went for her appointment and they told her it would be somewhere around $100 for what we had been paying $0 previously. No notice! I told her to get back in her car and come home, do not go sit in that chair for your cleaning! The office staff had the audacity to tell me they would charge me for a no show if she didn't stay, somewhere around $100. I laughed, and told her that it is on them for not informing us of their change in accepting our insurance and to come find me for that missed appointment charge - please, come find me! That was the end of going there. It's a shame. I liked Dr Adams, he was nice. It's the lack of communication with the patients in which they lack that led me to find another provider. Touché

It turns out, multiple aspects of dental work by Dr Adams was incomplete and done very poorly. After years of an infection that broke into my sinuses, I went to see a specialist who immediately identified the poor work. He also knew exactly who did the work, as he has had to help other former patients of Dr Adams with similar issues. Thousands of dollars, multiple procedures, and multiple health issues later, I am back on track and healthy. As a side warning - over the years, I have posted about this experience on provider review sites. Those reviews, and others I would see about similar botched work by Dr Adams, have since been removed.

Dr. Washington saved my teeth whereas other providers provided estimates from 15k to 25k to pull teeth and place implants. Again - Dr. Washington saved my teeth. As a long time patient, I can attest that the office staff are ALL amazing. Well trained, caring, concerned and they all go above and beyond in providing dental care. Katie, Ashley, Regina, Kelly, Carolyn, and the rest of the staff are so caring and supportive and go the extra mile to provide excellent service to patients. Katie T. helped me through a very difficult dental situation recently, for which I am most grateful. She is nothing short of outstanding. Severe dental issues can be scary. The dental assistants generously share their wealth of expertise so patients understand the issues, feel comfortable, know what to expect, and know how to best care for their dental issues outside the office. Dr. Washington himself is extremely kind, compassionate, and really looks out for his patients. He has seen me on an emergency basis on multiple occasions. He has gotten me in for emergency procedures. Dr. Washington is always concerned about his patients. He even had his office call and check on patients to make sure they were okay and see if they needed anything before the office closed three weeks for construction. (Ashley said they would have no electricity or water during construction.) Dr. Washington has his patient's best interests at heart. He will tell you the honest truth. His focus is to preserve teeth, with the most conservative approach possible. They have certainly been good to me and I am grateful for all they have done for me. I count myself lucky to be Dr. Washington's patient. I recommend Dr. Washington and his staff 1000%!!
