Its a fun place and the lake with a view of Mt.Shasta is breathtaking. We stayed in the small marina cabin. Its small and yes there are bugs. The cabin is not for small kids or people who rub their hands along walls. None of the wood is finished or sanded so splinter heaven. It is dirty and stains around the walls. We loved staying a cabin here, we have always done tent sites before so even though the price is more than I think it should be for the condition of the place we still preferred a cabin over the campsites. It is a bit over priced in my opinion. A small bundle of wood was $15. The stay per night was $187 plus an extra $10 for our 11yr old and $5 for a dog so a total was $368-ish for two nights. They do charge for anyone over 10yrs to stay at the cabins even though the cabins say the hold 4-6people. They charge for more than two people.

This review is specifically about the boat rental experience we've had at this resort. We don't have any experience with the camping or beach facilities. Lake Siskiyou is a treasure. It's a calm, smallish, swimmable lake at the base of Mount Shasta. We've been coming to this lake for many years to rent a patio boat for our small family (and dog). The customer service has always been top-notch from check-in to docking the boat after a few hours on the lake. We've always reserved in advance, usually for the July 4th weekend, and have had no trouble finding parking, getting help, or launching our boat from the dock. The dock crew is pleasant and friendly. The fact that they let us bring our dogs on the boat (for a fee) was a huge plus. They even have dog lifejackets, if that's your thing. There is a fee to enter the resort (a small amount per person).

Had a great time at Lake Sis! Our campsite was clean & quite large for 11 of us. The best part was that we didn't have any nearby neighbors! Showers & bathroom facilities are well kept & cleaned regularly. The staff were all friendly & security passed by about every hour. They don't have any bear boxes so we did have to leave our food out but fortunately no bears/coyotes broke in. The lake was nice & the 7pm movie nights are a cute touch -- just bring your own chairs because those seats are not comfortable. We'll definitely be coming back here to camp!

Would give this place a 3 star because it isn't year around; wanted to go paddle boarding but it isn't available. However we got a boat and the crew assisting us was amazing; they saved the trip!!!

    The showers

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend and let me tell you, NEVER AGAIN!! The bathrooms were deplorable. The showers left our group feeling even more dirty than we were before our showers. The bathroom/shower to camper ratio was waaayyy off. Plus, the campers around us were loud and extremely rude. No one observed the quiet hours with people partying into the early hours of the morning then the early risers were up with the sun blasting their music. There are no bear boxes so all of our food bins/ice chests had to be picked up and put into our vehicles every night. For as much money as we spent on this trip and how many people they pack into this campground they really need to make some upgrades and put in some bear boxes. The area is gorgeous and it's a bummer that this place is run so poorly because it has the potential to be beautiful.

The beach was so cute! We loved the blow up obstacle courses. The staff was a little rude when we went up to ask questions before they opened. But the girl who got us checked in and booked was incredible sweet and made the experience much better. The bathrooms were very clean, at least the ones next to our campsite. The shower water was hot which was great because it was cold at night. The lake is really beautiful. We will be coming back.

To be…read moreclear, the campground is a short distance prior to the actual lake which has its own parking lot and trailheads. Once parked at the lake, you can embark on the moderate trail to Heart Lake. Approaching the lake, the trail is to the left of it and climbs along the lake shore with intermittent views. As you take a gradual but steady climb up, you will start to see views open up and eventually see Mt Shasta itself. Most hikers stop at Heart Lake which is a scenic spot with granite on one side and on the outlet side of the lake for Shasta views. If you're wanting a little bit of a longer hike, when facing the lake, make a right and log hop across its outlet and follow a faint but obvious trail to a rocky outcropping. There you will reach an amazing vista of Castle Lake and Mt Shasta. It's a great spot to have your lunch and take some amazing photos. Take care on the way down as there are some steep drop offs and slippery rocks. Most of the trail is exposed, so I'd go earlier in the day in the warm months. Depending on how far you go, it's 3-4 miles out and back. Wonderful way to have amazing mountain scenery in a short hike. Free parking at the lake and pit toilets (not the best, not the worst I've seen.)

Luckily, we snagged the last remaining first-come-first-serve site (#27). Similar to other campgrounds, you pay at the front by putting your cash in the little envelopes. It's $15/ night here. The site has a picnic bench and a bear box as well as a fire pit. The site was pretty spacious and fairly clean. I also like that the sites aren't super close together so you feel like you have some breathing space from your neighbors. The potable water faucet was also a short walk away (next to the toilets). My only gripe is that the vault toilets weren't cleaned out daily. We stayed here for 3 days/2 nights and they weren't cleaned out at all. I'm assuming they probably empty them and replenish the toilet paper about once a week. Overall, not my favorite campsite of all time, but this is a good alternative if you can't find anything at Fowler's Campground. 3.75

Site #12 was beside the road, and there was some truck noise at night, but being closest to the byway, I was first to see a deer walk through camp at dusk. I put up my azul Ozark Trail tent with the Aerobed queen-size air mattress and made my home for the next few nights. Even though the campground was full, it was quiet, and I felt weird about plugging in my phone with my engine on for a few hours, but I needed have power for the hikes in the morning. Instead of staking the fly open, I staked one in the middle giving me a front door and holding down the tarp in case of wind or rain. If it rains, water will puddle, so look for a convex footprint with your head uphill. Never forget the importance of coverage, even if you don't think it is going to rain. Although water is one of the 10 ways to find magic on the trail, water on dry blankets can drench your sweet dreams. Two nights of chill became a little more rowdy by the weekend and the center campsite became an out-of-school reunion on bikes, scooters and wilderness walks. I love camping during the summer and if you don't like families, I don't recommend you camp in popular areas. When the rain started, it was dinner time and most of the families had retreated to campers, so all I could hear was the pounding droplets on my tent. After a full day of hiking, I was tired and screwed together the JetBoil and gas I picked up from REI for this trip. In less than 5 minutes I was slurping Cup of Noodles, which kept me warm even without the fire. Before it got dark, I escaped away to the secret water hole named for the camp I was staying. With no one else around, I took a breath and looked for the light. It started to sprinkle, and I found myself star-struck by the beauty I could create in my life on my own. C-89 Waterfall Loop is 1 of the 8 trips of magic in northern California and Cattle Camp is a dream campground along the way.
