If you're looking for haunted house vibes with false charm, this property management company delivers. We rented a home they manage in Shasta, and it felt like the start of a horror movie. Only one bathroom could be used at a time due to weak water pressure and barely any hot water. The host's solution? "Just stagger your showers by 30 minutes." Because obviously, what every vacation needs is a bathroom rotation spreadsheet. We were joined by a dead cockroach in the closet. A true roommate. He paid no rent and still got more consistency than we did. Two bedrooms were in a damp basement with strong "unsolved case" energy. Lights didn't work in multiple rooms. Water dispensers? Empty. For a property with a $500 deposit and a push to buy trip insurance, we expected basic functionality. Instead, we got a scavenger hunt for working utilities. We contacted them during the stay and escalated to Airbnb when nothing improved. The responses were mostly gaslighting and excuses. Airbnb, not the property managers, offered a $200 coupon, which we declined. That wasn't a resolution. It was hush money. Later, we noticed the listing had been quietly edited, changing the details that had misled us. No accountability, no explanation. Just a sweep under the rug once the damage was done. If they rebranded this as a haunted escape room with shower rationing and an emotional support cockroach, maybe it would work. But as a vacation rental? Absolutely not. We stayed at Franke's Cabin in Dunsmuir for 2 nights. There were 6 of us, and not all of us were sensitive sleepers but the trains that go right by the cabin day and night and sounds their horns woke most of us up several times every night, even in ear plugs. Unless you black out and cannon fire can't wake you, this is not a place for you. Additionally, the hot tub that was the deciding point for this booking, had a significant leak in it, and when maintenance came to take a look, there were breaker issues as well, so we did not get to use it at all. Firewood was chopped too large and didn't fit into the fire stove. Other than that, it is clean, spacious, has all the dishes you need, and the shower has a nice pressure and is hot.​ read more

Unlike many of the vacation rentals I've stayed in recently, this one was clean, well-kept, and had a kitchen with enough dishes that I was able to make family dinners. We were also able to easily amend our stay when kid's school schedules changed last minute. I do wish we could have paid for the rental at once instead of being required to make multiple payments, but overall, this is the best rental house I've had in a long time. read more

I stayed in Shasta Bella. Excellent location. Cozy cottage style accommodation. Well appointed and styled. Quick and thorough communications with management. A few issues needing addressing (heater and broken blinds) though management assures they will be fixed promptly. Not my favorite that the outer porch lights cannot be turned off nor are there window coverings that will block them out. Train also runs fairly close though think that can't really be avoided near town. It is a cute cottage though and I have enjoyed my stay. read more

We stayed at Shasta Harmony in Mt Shasta town for about a week. The unit is well stocked with all essentials and has all the modern amenities one can expect. The unit is well maintained, the decor is cute and well done. The sheets, comforters were freshly laundered. The views to Mt Shasta was awesome. The service was also great. We had some issues with the door lock and Peter, the manager responded quickly and came to site, fixed the issue. Overall the experience was pleasant and will definitely consider staying with them again in our next trip read more

We were incredibly disappointed in the quality of the house we rented. It represented it with professional pictures taken at least 10 years ago because it looked WAY better in the pictures than in actuality. The pictures showed it as freshly painted rather than the paint peeling off and most plants around the house pretty much dead and the fence falling down. For almost $400/night including cleaning and fees we expected a home that reflected that quality. The Sunrise Lodge in Weed is Funky! The views of Mt Shasta are wonderful and the kitchen is well appointed. The small second bedroom is utterly claustrophobic with a bed that is too soft - we are now in need of chiropractic care for our backs, and the second bedroom's bathroom has a stinky toilet that reeks of the leach field. The house has not been updated or remodeled since the 1970's! The furniture is old and funky and nothing matches. The Master bedroom was much nicer but the sink and toilet are designed for someone very short, the bathtub is old and uninviting. The lighting in the house is terrible. You can't read once the sun begins to set and must operate in dim lights even in the kitchen. When we arrived there no wood for a fire in the wood stoves or fireplace, although the heaters in the living space worked ok. Several of the kitchen cabinets were broken, we could barely muscle open the oven door, the heater broke in the Master Bedroom midway through our visit, and the heater in the living room would not adjust above 62 degrees! Mt Shasta Vacation Rentals was responsive to our need for wood and greeted us with some snacks and a bottle of wine! Thank you for that. We needed to cancel the original dates in summer that we made for Sunrise Lodge, and Peter, at Mount Shasta. Vacation rentals, was very accommodating allowing us to reschedule for the fall. We would have very much appreciated if the house had been aesthetically appealing and ready for our arrival with cold and rain predicted, than to have received a bottle of wine and snacks. The front porch was filled with dead plants, funky welcome mats, and the plants around the house were either in pots but dead or just empty pots and miscellaneous stuff strewn around the back deck. I have rented in Mount Shasta for the past 10 years, and I have never stayed in so funky a place and never paid this much money for it. I absolutely would work with Mt Shasta Vacation Rentals again in the future, but would never rent this house again and don't recommend it. read more

RE Sunrise Mountain Cabin , Weed,CA Jan.2024 Although the scenery and view were great , unfortunately we experienced multiple Issues . Cleanliness such as mice droppings in and around dishes, counters , cupboards. We had to wash every surface and dish we used. And a used tampon applicator in bathroom cupboard. Heater in living room stopped working for a night and a day . Heater in master bedroom still shuts off randomly with error code beeping and filter light. Loose electrical outlet in kitchen, intermittently works . Smoke alarms may not be working , multiple hanging off walls . Doesn't appear to be any carbon monoxide alarms . There were no lightbulbs in light in master bathroom. Driveway becomes unusable after its plowed due to ice formation . We had to walk up and down driveway with all our stuff . It was very difficult for my elderly Mom. Would be nice to warn guests of this issue in winter . Would NEVER stay here again ! read more

I stayed at: Ski's River Cabin 29175 Eastside Rd, Castella, CA 96017 This was my 2nd or 3rd time staying here & I love it! The home is right on the Upper Sacramento River with a lovely view of the river & forest across. At night, the stars are so beautiful as there is little light pollution. This stay, the home was extra clean & there were some nice updates, like in the bathroom & a fabric screen over the back sliding door. Be prepared for the sounds of the train & horn as there are tracks right behind the house, & sometimes you can hear traffic from I-5. However, being on the deck & in the front of the home, the beautiful sound of the river drowns out most extraneous sounds. The location is very close to Castle Crags State Park with its magnificent beauty & plenty of trails, from easy to hard. I am happy to recommend staying at Ski's River Cabin & I will gladly be staying here again in the future! read more

Great location; homey and spacious; nice view on deck of Mt. Shasta; excellent supply of dishes and pans, etc. for cooking. Very good restaurants nearby. The host was very helpful. Most likely because the weather is good now for road and railway work, be prepared for loud construction that starts around 5:00 a.m., and trains that go through town and blow their whistles into the night and early a.m. It's quite loud. read more

My wife and I stayed at Mountain Breeze (one of Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals' properties) with our puppy Scout for a month in July/August to get out of Los Angeles during quarantine.  We picked this property because it had a large fenced in yard where we could hangout with our dog, it was close to lakes and other outdoor activities and the third bedroom came with a desk so I could work during the day.  We also loved the dining room alcove, waking up to a perfect view of Mt. Shasta, the amazing planetarium view outside every night and daily visits from hummingbirds, rabbits and deer.  The house was just what we needed for our working away from home getaway, but what exceeded our expectations were Scott & Mary, the owners of the house.  They lived right down the street and were extremely responsive to our many needs as we settled down for a month in the country.   Scott roasts coffee and we had bags ready for us when we arrived, our favorite was aptly named, Mountain Breeze.  When the temperatures reached over 100 degrees, Scott brought us an air conditioner, even though we said it wasn't necessary.  Their dogs Lugnut and Diesel became best buds with Scout, who badly needed doggy playdates.  We cooked a lot and Mary made sure we had everything we needed.  When Scout escaped from a local kennel, Scott & Mary enlisted their friends to help us look for her and didn't rest until we found Scout two days later, for which we are forever grateful.  I can't recommend Mountain Breeze more, not only did we have an extremely enjoyable experience, we made new friends.  If you're thinking about booking this house, just do it! read more

Girlfriends of 45 years did a trip to Mt. Shasta and we stayed in the one bedroom called "Shasta Bella". Absolutely lovely unit, grounds and location! We were able to walk to town daily for a munch and/or shopping. Over many years of staying at units such as this on vacations, we were super impressed with the stock in the unit. SEVERAL spices, snacks (as welcome gift), paper towels, toilet paper, soaps, cling wrap, etc. It was truly like being at a beautiful normally functioning home for a few short days. This unit is set up within an area of four rental units. The grounds are well maintained, beautiful to look at, peaceful, and the setting is perfect to look up to the Mountain and sky during sunset sitting at the table set on lawn. If you just have one person or several, their selection of the four separate rentals to choose from at this location are gems. We will be coming back, girlfriend who came from Oregon already planning renting larger one next Summer for her family, . Thank you MSVC! read more

My kids and I stayed at Skis River Cabin in Castella to celebrate our last weekend of summer vacation and meet up with cousins nearby. It was the perfect place to entertain our family and have fun with the pool table, BBQ, large deck overlooking the river, and being able to walk around the property picking wild blackberries. The train tracks made me nervous, and we definitely woke up at 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. to the sound on the tracks, BUT it wasn't anything that kept us awake. We stayed at the home on Eddy Circle and it was absolutely beautiful. The view of Mount Shasta was amazing! The home had everything we needed and then some and the backyard was beautiful with a fire pit, a grill, and a grassy area that was filled with dragonflies and butterflies! What a joy it was, having a romantic weekend at Shasta Cottage. Kudos to the housekeeper for the sparkling clean interior and to whoever stocked the kitchen with a nice set of knives and an old fashioned, hand cranked coffee grinder. This cottage with space had a lovely open kitchen/dining/living area, bedroom with a king sized bed and great lighting for reading on both sides plus a spacious bathroom. Morning coffees on the rear deck were enjoyable with a host of entertaining characters including various, winged friends, one crazy squirrel and a pair of hares. Would love to have a family vacation here and rent the 4 bedroom house next door, in addition to the cottage. read more

I stayed in the "Shasta Serenity" cabin over the Memorial Day holiday and was pleasantly surprized at the nice accommodations. This little space has been completly renovated and looks devine. The bed is very comfortable and cozy. Being close to town is a plus and with this cabin being set back from the main street you get total peace and quiet. The booking process is easy and concise and I have had no problems contacting these folks when I have a question or concern. I'll definitly be back! read more

I booked "Shasta Serenity" for a week long summer vacation up in the Mount Shasta area. A couple of days before I arrived I was sent details on how to access the property and the lockbox containing the key. The space is located In downtown Mount Shasta in a cluster of vacation rentals called Chestnut Village. It's attached to another rental, and the space had been recently renovated with all the modern convinences. The bathroom has a real plush towel set and the kitchen has all the tools you would need to make a quick meal. The space was clean and was the right size for this single traveler or a couple. The space was quiet, has WiFi, and no issues came up during the whole stay. The porch was useful for looking at the evening sunsets every night and also comes with a small gas grill set which was useful for grilling sausages and veggies. Would rent again. ;) read more

When my kids and I first arrived we were impressed, we stayed in Dunsmuir at River's Pace Cottage. Of course the cabin was dated (as is most of Dunsmuir) so that was fine by me. Cabin was as pictured. We arrived on a Friday evening. By Saturday afternoon there were ants all throughout the kitchen. I did my best to clean what I could, I found Raid under the kitchen sink, so I assume this is a common problem. I continued to stay there, until Sunday. Our reservation was was intended to check out Monday. Sunday we got back to the cabin around 10pm from hanging with friends. There was ants all over the kitchen, on the baseboard in the bedroom, in the bathroom. My kids were freaking out. I ended up packing my things up and decided to drive 6 hours home Sunday night to get home Monday at 2am. I reached out via email and have heard nothing back. I am very upset about this and find it very frustrating that they clearly had the house cleaned Friday before we got there to disguise the ant problem. I will not stay at this rental again. read more

I understand that a fee should be kept for their time and for having the house off rental for a couple days but that will be the easiest $600 made (and with 4more weeks to go, it will probably be rented!) Sure, this is a sob story, but an absolute fee vs 50% of your stay with a very reasonable notice would have been much better. read more

We stayed in this upstairs condo last weekend and had a great time! Mount Shasta is a very lovely town and the home was very clean and homey. The staff were very friendly and helpful eth entire weekend -- even answered the emergency phone over Sunday! I would definately use them again when vacationing in Northern California, and recommend them also. read more

We had booked a vacation home through airbnb, the owner was out of town so she had this rental company taking care of us. We called and left a message that the light in one of the bathrooms had stopped working and when we arrived we wanted to let them know the screen was hanging off the front door and the smoke detector was hanging down with no battery from the master ceiling by wires. We left our cell number and asked for a call back, we never received one and its been 2 days. We have since checked out and we let the owner know what had happened and she was greatly appreciated. We also had to notify the owner that we hadnt received our check in info from them either, she was surprised they hadnt contacted me. She sent them an email and then they got a hold of me. If you use this company I wouldn't expect a lot from them :( read more

This house is very clean and cozy, it's location was perfect for our needs. The host answered my messages promptly and she even let us check in early. The amenities were outstanding, it has everything you probably have at home from spices and cleaning supplies in the kitchen to curling irons, facial wipes and hair spray in the bathroom (my wife and daughter loved that!!) We have just returned home to Colorado Springs, after an off-season trip to Humboldt State Park and Mount Shasta. This was a trip that I had planned for a long time; a trip to reconnect with nature and the universe. Our experience here at this cabin, met all of our expectations. It is quiet, quaint, and serene. The location on the river is amazing. The hosts, do a great job to ensure that every need is met. Very responsive and courteous. Just for your awareness, there is a train that goes through several times throughout the day and night, however, it is not disruptive at all. The train is a smooth passing with a very low frequency of sound. There are also ants. It's just part of the environment and life. No big deal for us. We slept with the bedroom window open to take in the soothing sounds of the river, and this provided a very relaxing and sound sleep. We recommend this place; 100.%. You will not be disappointed. I stayed at Serenity cottage and was very disappointed with the condition and cleanliness of the place. There was a dirty kitchen sponge left for our use no new ones and a dirty hot pad with dried food on it. The garbage can and cabinet under the sink were dirty. I found hair on a pillow on the bed and holes in the walls. The smell of febreze or some kind of unnatural scented product was so strong that it got into all my belongings and has made me headachy for days even after leaving. There was also lots of dog poop all over the front yard and along the walkway close to the front steps. It was disgusting. The family staying in the cottage next to mine had similar problems plus condensation dripping down the windows which created a puddle on the floor. When I stayed there a few yrs ago at Xmas and it was clean and inviting but apparently they have really let the place go. I called to complain twice but got no response. read more
