Great experience with Dusten from Reynolds Roofing. He responded immediately to our request for a roof replacement estimate, and the estimate he delivered the next day was apx. $1000 less than his initial verbal guess based on what he could eyeball at the time, even though the written estimate included a new power fan and install that he had not factored into the verbal estimate. The final total came in only $100 over that estimate due to one piece of plywood that needed replacing along the way, and he did all the work by himself (final job was $8500 and took him exactly 5 days to tear off 2 old layers of roofing and to install the new Malarkey Roofing on an apx. 2000 sq. ft. roof, if that kind of info helps you). He was very clean and respectful of our property the entire time he was onsite, throwing all the discarded materials directly from the roof into a dumpster throughout the job. We could not even tell that he had ever been there by the time he left. He even noticed that our neighbor was having trouble with something in his yard (his power mower, I think?) while he was up on our roof, and he climbed down to help fix it right then and there. I had a serious depression near the apex of my roof. The first pdx rains were arriving on the coming Sunday. I called Dusten explained the issue on Friday and he arrived promptly at 9.30am on Saturday. He assessed the damage and replaced the plywood and felt (30) and installed a vent. The damage was caused by trapped moisture because the previous roofer had not allowed for it. Overall, very happy with him sorting it out on his day off. I started looking for a roofing contractor in mid-February to replace my 25-year-old cedar roof. During the process, I interviewed 8 contractors and, in the end, selected Reynolds Roofing for the job and have not been disappointed in my choice. Dustin is a personable young man who goes above and beyond what is needed to do a good job. He was pleasant to have around the house during the process and works long hours. His bid was the second lowest I got for the job (the range was between $29,000 to $57,000, so it pays to shop around). One of the things I liked about Dustin's bid was that he was the only bidder to break down the pricing by components. To my surprise, the actual cost of the roofing material is not the driving force behind pricing. I ended up choosing the Malarky Windsor XL high profile shingles and was very happy with the selection. The XL weighs 410 lbs/square and makes my home stand out. My roof area was about 5500 sq. ft or about 58 squares. For the most part, Dustin does the work himself although he did bring in a six-man crew for a couple of days to tear off the old cedar roof. For me, the advantage of having the guy that bid the job working on it every day was a worthwhile tradeoff to the fact that it takes him longer to complete the job. Sure, you can get a 6 to 8 person crew that will get the entire job done in a week and be gone, but I'd rather have the same guy around for an extra week or two and be sure of getting the best results. Bottom line is that if you need your roof replaced you would be hard-pressed to find a better person than Dustin to do the job. read more
