Lord where do I even START!! This place is amazing beyond belief I'm not kidding! We made a reservation for a company luncheon with 16 of us. Made it 1 week in advance and they were set and ready for us! The employees are so sweet and helpful and the food came out before the other half of the table even finished ordering I'm not kidding! The fried chicken combo (3 piece) was phenomenal! I got Mac n cheese with yams and cornbread and then added on a chili for extra $ Everything was piping hot so it was very fresh. The chicken was juicy as all hell and that flavor oh my gosh! Best fried chicken I've ever had. The yams were so sweet and flavorful all the way through, and the Mac n cheese had a nice crust with the perfect creamy texture to it! The cornbread was as good as any and the chili beans had the perfect kick! I do prefer a more soupy meat based chili myself but no complaints here! A lot of my coworkers had the fried fish and were RAVING about it! The type of fish they use really shows in the taste and quality! The spicy fried fish was good as well and the sea food gumbo was also delicious all according to the table! Prices are to be expected, it's not your cheapest option but babe it's the yummiest so get on over there! The inside is cute and cozy and they accommodated our party size nicely. I didn't get to feel the ambiance because I ordered thru DoorDash. I ordered the smothered oxtails with a side of cornbread, Potato salad, and Cheesy Mac. Delivery was fast because the oxtails are prepared ahead of time for the Wednesday special. The oxtails were tender and smothered in a brown gravy, potato salad was okay and the Mac cheese had a thick layer of cheese crust on top. The cornbread was dry af, just kinda crumbled. The oxtails reminded me of my mom's beef stew so yes you get that home cooked meal feeling with this dish. I think if you ever miss your mom's cooking, this is the dish. Found this family owned restaurant on google after our original food place was closed in Bakersfield. My family and I were so satisfied with our meals everything was fresh and good. Recently been coming here for their oxtail plate!! It had me coming back again days later for the same plate lol they only serve it on Wednesdays and Sundays. Omg they sure know how to do em right. Sucked the meat off them bones. lmao it was so tender! And it comes with rice and gravy.. two sides and cornbread. I always get greens and Mac n cheese. Both really good! Cornbread Is ok.. crumbled quickly but it's still being ate! Also got banana pudding for dessert as well as peach cobbler. Both were equally delicious but the banana pudding is the clear winner!!! Saw the amazing reviews about this place on Yelp so had to try. I thought the whole menu would be available daily. A little disappointed that they didn't offer gumbo. Service was meh. Originally was brought the wrong food. Once we got our food, we really liked it. I got the fish and chicken combo. Was good, but between my wife and I, all the chicken was legs. My boyfriend and I shared the four piece chicken combo plate, we got chili beans and mac & cheese, and we got two extra sides that were greens and the yams. The chicken was a 10/10 - nice and hot! greens - 9/10 very flavorful ( my bf's favorite side ) yams- 7/10 it was a little too sweet for my liking but i still enjoyed it and liked it. chili beans - i wish there was a little bit more meat in mine so 6.5/10 Mac and cheese - 7/10 it was nice and hot Corn bread - i wish we had butter for our cornbread and it was a little bit more soft. It was funny. I walked in and saw somebody from work. Someone that I've had conversations with about good soul food. We were the first to arrive in our group of 10, so I go over and ask about the food. "Everything is good," he says. While I consider his words, I also consider, some people want to hype a place up just because it's gone viral, or because they feel a connection to the place. My wife does this when she knows the owners. Like here, she knows the owner and his wife. I try to give the good and bad if it's a good experience. I've had reviews I couldn't write because the bad out weighed the good. Anyways, we waited about 5 min before sitting at the big table. This is where people waiting to pick up their food sit. Not a big deal initially, we were waiting for others. It was when the next 4 arrived that sharing the table became a problem. They were nice and moved though. So perhaps a dedicated waiting shot is needed. I should also mention, today was Sunday and the foot traffic was nonstop. This was both good and bad. You see when it was time to order, they were out of oxtails, and we would later find, out of ribs. My son got the last ones. My father-in-law had to order something else. My daughter and I got the smothered pork chop, my wife got the fried chicken and my youngest got fries. Just fries..... Some of our sides were greens, chile beans, Mac and cheese and baked beans. I forget what my brother-in-law ordered, but I recall he ordered a side waffle. Well we all get to eating and everything is good. My daughter loved the Mac and cheese. We both needed a knife for our pork chop, and the servers were very attentive. 2-3 would come around regularly checking on us, bringing us honey, vinegar, refills, etc. At some point our last person arrived. All the while, my brother-in-law would ask about his side waffle. It got to the point that we paid, they said we weren't charged for the waffle, which we weren't, but that we would still be getting it. But brother-in-law has no chill. Eventually he left, which brings me to something I forgot. Everything is served prepped ready to go in a plastic container with a lid. Even your utensils are plastic. When you're ready to go, you just close the lid and go. Well except you pay at the end. Something that surprised us all. Maybe because we ordered at the register and expected to pay first like the modern day fast casual type restaurants. Normally you just sit and wait for them to come get your order. We didn't know. My family and mother-in-law waited at least another 5 min, and then me and the kids left. It was during this time that Bukolah (I'm sure I butchered her name) brought the waffle. Not just 1, but a serving, as well as 2 desserts. The bread pudding was SO good. If my brother-in-law wouldn't have gotten upset, it would have probably all been his. I noticed many more orders for take-out than for those who chose to dine in, like the two times I did here. The sticky dining tables and worse, sticky and slippery floors may have to do with this. The griminess of the restaurant might turn off patrons. There are some clear hit-and-misses with the dishes. The fried fish was my favorite dish here. The skin was crispy, lightly seasoned, and juicy, and the meat was firm but flaky inside. The baked candied yams were perfect, not too sweet, bright orange, cinnamon-spiced, moist, and tender. Sadly, I am not a fan of their fried chicken. I ordered it for both of my two visits. The meat was a little dry and dark - probably from frying it in the same old cooking oil - and I did not care for the mild seasoning. The skin was also very oily. The collard greens and cabbage mix had too many onions, overwhelming the taste and texture of it. Going into a manageable amount of detail for a three-star rating is fine. What I like here: fried fish, yams, BBQ beans, mac n' cheese, Kool-Aid available during the summer months. What I didn't like: fried chicken, mixed greens, sticky and slippery floors. The owner/manager of the restaurant is very nice and appreciates all the business. A few dishes - namely the shrimp and grits on Fridays, and the oxtail special on Wednesdays and Sundays have me enticed to try them in the future. read more

Found this place near a coffee shop we were going to. Was really excited to see a place that served southern food. Boyfriend got the triple plate with fried chicken, fried fish, and fried shrimp. The food here is so good. We were greeted as soon as entered, and seated. This place does is popular with take out orders. We were the only ones eating in and several people came in for Togo pick up's. It does have lots of seating, flowers on the tables. We ordered the 4 piece regular chicken, yams with Mac and cheese, Triple plate with chili beans, Mac and cheese. Both plate came with corn bread. Everything was so delicious, the Mac and cheese was very cheesy and creamy, yams were the best I've ever had, chili beans were so good & had ground meat in them as well. The fish and shrimp breading was perfect not oily at all and the fried fish is delicious. We got 3 legs and a thigh, obviously freshly made so it was very hot a little oily but to be a little expected still crunchy tho. The cornbread wasn't super sweet but still good however it was on the drier side. The lemon cake is very good and dense but also a little dry, the icing helps combat that element of it. No refills on soda, which wasn't an issue for us but I know some people have a problems right that. The man taking our order let us know for the chicken it was a 15 minute wait & even apologized for it and again when bring out the food. It came out to about $51. Definitely recommend this place, Fresno doesn't currently have many soul food style restaurants. read more

This place is great if you're looking for some good comforting soul food. I love a good Mac n cheese and this place has really good Mac. I usually get the fried fish and shrimp combo and I love how fluffy the fish is and how seasoned it is. I'm never disappointed. This is exactly how we felt when we bit into our food and it was hot throughout the whole time we were eating. Oscar is an amazing chef and his co-partner she was just as amazing with the service.
