So originally, my wife and I wanted to try Tin Top. We drive pass it a lot and always have the urge to try it, but we never had gotten a chance until yesterday. It was a bit underwhelming, however, the ice cream side which we thought was together with the place, but then realized it was a Rhea's was what redeemed the experience. Starting with the difference in customer service, the young lady with red hair working the counter was so polite and attentive, made suggestions and even after we made our choices and realize there was a flavor we wanted she let us try the coffee Oreo... y'all I'll definitely be coming be back for this one. It's attached to Tin Top Burgers and is easy to find since it's at the E San Antonio St. Parking is easy to find and the business can be entered from the inside of Tim Top and also an entrance from the Right side of the building. Once inside, you notice that it's a small hole in the wall that just has a few variety of flavors to choose from. But from those few, they all are amazing!!! The flavors that I would recommend are Big Red, Cookies & Cream, and Banana Pudding. The service is good, they have military discount, and it's amazing for the summer heat! I had high hopes, the flavor of the month is cherry vanilla, one of my all time favorites. While others in the group had a better experience, I think I got the last of the container. There were ice crystals throughout my scoop. The cherries? You could see tiny bits in there however nothing to get excited about. The prices are reasonable. Salted Caramel with Pecan Praline 7/10 - it was a two scoop on the waffle cone. Both flavors were very good and the waffle cone was fantastic! Banana Pudding 8/10 - this one was interesting as you could taste both the banana and the Nilla Wafer. Not too overpowering, but was just good. You could tell from all the ice creams they were probably homemade and organic. Waffle Cones 9/10 - homemade and legit! I was in awe of the flavor options and after getting over my disappointment that they do not offer samples, I went with the honey basil walnut and the animal cracker cookies ice cream and both were outstanding! This is a cute ice cream shop, but it's super duper tiny with only one person taking orders. That leads to a very long wait time. The person working the shop when I came over looked really overwhelmed since no one was helping her. My friends and I probably waited over 30 minutes before we were able to place our orders. And some things happened that made my wait even longer when placing my order: - They ran out of spoons so the staff had to step outside to grab a new box - My friend wanted Cookies and cream milkshake and the staff had to go to the back to get a new batch since they were out. - I wanted hot brownie with two scoops of ice cream so the staff had to warm up the brownie and make the milkshake. And this happened while I was placing the order. Now imagine a long line with each person ordering something that takes two-three minutes to make, this leads to a very long wait time. This is hands down, the best little ice cream shop...period. We were staying in an Airbnb bear by for a couple months. We passed by and randomly stopped in. It was love ever since. We came back every week to every 2 weeks after. My youngest loved the big red. My oldest is the only one that tried different flavors and love them equally. My husband loved the raspberry and goat cheese (which, was sooooooo good btw) And I was pretty loyal to that coffee Oreo flavor. The goat cheese and raspberry jam and Belgium chocolate have grown to be a part of my life. The other flavors are really good in their own right - but this particular combination is basically part of my soul. I graduated my self from the double scoop + a return refill to a straight mixed pint. Do they do gallons??? My wife pretty much sticks with the snickerdoodle double scoop and my son is the Belgium chocolate + S'mores type. Oh, and don't forget your oatmeal raisin cookie! I had high hopes for Rhea's Ice Cream. Located in a quaint old house repurposed into a restaurant and ice cream parlour, it looks very charming and the menu promising ice cream, espresso and milkshakes is also mouth-watering. The place, adorned with various recycled chairs and tables, is darling. Fast-forward to the eating part. The ice cream was bland and the coffee was lukewarm, barely qualifying as espresso. The poor girl behind the counter admitted she had no idea about espresso and proceeded to show me the automatic espresso machine sitting on the counter. She pointed to the button they press to make the espresso come out. Ouch. "Nobody working here knows a thing about espresso", she added. As soon as I took a sip, I believed her. Humility and transparency girl, I appreciate that. What I do not appreciate however is being lured into a business that prominently promotes itself an ice cream AND coffee shop when truly it cannot uphold either. I might have forgiven the bad coffee if the ice cream had been good but it wasn't the case. I chose two different flavors and couldn't tell them apart - they both tasted similar and bland, the texture a bit too icey and not creamy at all, kind of like an old tub of ice cream you forget at the back of the freezer for a few weeks. Maybe Rhea's was having a bad day, I don't know. But I would not recommend it and it's one of my top 3 worst ice cream experiences ever. This is a super cute revamped old house that turned into an ice cream parlor. It is a great location as it is located close to the water park nearby. I had purposely decided to come here since I was in the area and had seen via Yelp that they had vegan ice cream options. Before entering I saw a sign that listed the ice cream that they currently had on hand. I was a little disappointed that the vegan options were limited to two flavors but not shocked by this as I am happy when any place offers 1-2 options for vegan ice cream. I have to get vegan ice cream since I have issues with dairy. Anyway, the current vegan options were mint chocolate chip and orange creamsicle (or something to that name). I am not a fan of orange creamsicle so I opted to get two scoops of the mint chocolate chip. The vegan ice cream was basically falling apart which can happen but not usual. I was disappointed in the flavor and the quality. My husband got a scoop of animal crackers and a scoop of smores. He enjoyed his ice cream. Have never been to an ice cream shop that doesn't offer samples, so that was disappointing. The kids were disappointed as well. 2. No cash policy. I have started paying in cash as some businesses (not Rheas) add a "no cash charge" to the total. I also like to tip in cash. Cash helps me budget for my family better. So, we decided to give Tin Top Burgers a second chance, and I'm glad we did, ONLY because we found this amazing gem hiding in the back of the dining area! At face value the ice cream flavors are creative, unique, and fun, but once you taste them the adjectives transform to decadent, savory, distinctive, and simply delicious! This is not Blue Bell, people!!! This is truly homemade and truly awesome! They actually have a Big Red flavored ice cream, and although it was not my favorite, the nod was noted, and it was actually good! S'mores is also good, Circus Animal is great, Belgian Chocolate is to die for, but the best you ever tasted in your life, and I'm not being ambitious, is hands down, BANANA PUDDING! It's definitely not the best ice cream shop the new Braunfels but I would deftly give them runner-up for that spot. They got some very delicious very unique flavors well unique for new Braunfels Texas anyways. I've tried the avocado which was awesome, Sea salt caramel which was just good, the banana pudding which was oh so good, the sugar and cinnamon which was devilishly good and the strawberry nutella which I did not care for. That's just the tip of the spear as the flavors continue straight into a diabetic coma LOL. Joking aside it's definitely good and definitely would be recommended by me if asked. I will say this they are a bit pricey for ice cream in my opinion even with the unique flavors. I can get twice the ice cream at roughly the same price at rockadilly's in new Braunfels Texas. With that said I would definitely still say I would be easily comparable recommending this place to anyone visiting or local.
