From Chicago, just moved to Kyle, first time at Rhea's today. Here are some thoughts: -This place has a pretty cool vibe. Located near downtown San Marcos and Texas State U. -The inside is small but you can sit at the bar, and there are a couple of tables and chairs to hang out. -The service was great. I asked for a recommendation, and the young woman behind the counter asked me if I like bananas. I do. She told me to try the banana pudding. Wow! -My wife got the S'mores. Loved it. Ice cream here is made with such love! You can't go wrong with the flavor choices but I loved the Pecan Praline. You get so much ice cream in the one scoop -- it's such a good value at $4. Pretty solid ice cream - they have really unique flavors and they change them every month. I tried the vegan avocado coconut - never have had avocado ice cream before but it was really good - mostly coconut flavored. Well this place it's light... when I say that I mean light in flavor and light in creaminess; I got that raspberry goat cheese my son got a strawberry Nutella, and my husband got s'mores. It's not even the sweetness that I love, I kind a liked that this was less sweet ice cream but if you're going to have delicate flavors amp up the creaminess to it. It was a late afternoon and the anet wanted an ice cream. So we went to downtown San Marcos. There were lots and lots of watering holes. The were only a couple of ice cream stores. The 1st one we came to with close only to open on weekends. The 2nd one was really what I call a hole in the wall Single window open to the street and nobody there. We waited patiently and she came running up from the back saying I was just doing some dishes. Very nicely we look at the list which was well There were some funny flavors there. Ugh! Wanted to enjoy this so badly but the lady working there ruined my day with her attitude :( I went there and waited for a good minute before she came up to the front, that's ok i understand she might be working in the back. So she came up to the front and just stared at me for 15 seconds. No acknowledgment to me at all, not even a "hello". I felt like she was annoyed that I was there and she wanted me to just order and leave. I asked her if i could try a sample of a flavor. And her response was a very unapologetic and cold "We don't do samples." Ok, fine. So i ordered my ice cream. I asked her if she had a lid so I can take it to-go, again, her response is a short "No." As she says that, Im looking at a to-go container that has a lid- I believe it's for when people order ice cream in pint sizes but it would be nice if she just suggested that as an option. I work customer service too, and it would be just a given for me to try and offer something to make the customer happy? I would even pay extra for the container if I had to but I didn't ask because it seems like she was already pissed that I was there. The woman was wearing a mask the entire time, and I almost got the impression that she had a negative feeling towards me because I wasn't wearing one too. It really brought me back to the covid days, and reminded me that so many people were treated unfairly because they weren't wearing masks. I don't know if that's why I was treated so poorly, but it made me not even want to order ice cream from there...... but I was craving it so badly and I had to give in :( anyways, I gave one extra star because the ice cream was truly delicious. I hate to give Rhea's a bad review but the way I was treated today felt wrong. I've never even left a bad review for anywhere before! So that really shows how low I felt after this interaction. Better than ice cream!! The best little ice cream shop that I've ever been to. It is so delicious and tastes better than any ice cream I've ever had. It should be in it's own category of desserts. I love, love, love the friendliness of the staff. Every time I go in there, I am greeted and treated like a friend rather than a customer. The unique flavors are so interesting. I try a different flavor every time and have never been disappointed. The raspberry goats milk is a personal favorite. I was reluctant at first to try it but it ended up being my favorite over all the other flavors. Of course Big Red and Circus Animal Cookie are good ones also. So yummy!! read more
