Obviously visiting the hospital usually isn't a fun time, but the cafeteria has always been a bit of a light in the dark. While this rating is solely for today's breakfast, I will say when I was visiting family back in 2019, the salad was decent, the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger with onion rings was pretty great, and I was very very happy with the create your own Burger from the Open Kitchen (Potato bun, burger, cheddar, tomato, arugula, pickled red onions, caramelized onions, and some kind of special sauce). I was actually a bit sad back then the day we left knowing they had some kind of lamb meatballs I never got to try. So when I had to go today to bring my wife for a procedure, she told me I could just go back home and wait. Oh no, I was looking forward to this. This cafeteria had been calling my name for years now. I will say the online menu needs to be updated as they mentioned biscuits and gravy, and I was looking forward to that, but there were none to be found (That being said, it may have been at a different station I didn't see, so that could be on me). What I did see, though, was a short line for a hot breakfast and some very cheesy chourico scrambled eggs (online lists chorizo, but label said chourico). I was actually hoping for a bit more spice, but it had a nice flavor, the eggs were not dried out in the slightest, and thankfully the cheese was mostly on top so it wasn't over powering. Could have been a larger scramble, but we're splitting hairs here. Along side that I got a decent portion of the corned beef hash, nice and moist, but not too greasy, and two scoops of freshly dropped home fries (the menu labels them as hash browns, but these are not). After tax it came to $7.35, which for the portion size isn't too bad. Honestly, if the parking fees started at 1 hour instead of only up to 30 minutes being free, I wouldn't mind just dropping by for a bite to eat. I really can't say I've had a bad meal here. It's not some jaw dropping level of Michelin star cuisine, but for the speed and the price, it's hard to beat. Hospital food or not. read more

The staff in the grill area are rude. The always have a nasty attitude. They will have fries sitting out until it's soggy and cold and serve to you. When you ask for fresh fries they give you an attitude. I also purchased a crispy chicken sandwich the chicken was cold asked for new one given an attitude. I asked for my money back. read more

I have worked at RIH for more than a decade, seen many faces come and go, but things look the same in the Cafeteria since 2005. The prices have gone up significantly, but portions and quality have not. The buffalo chicken wrap is a star along with the chowder and some of the specials. Don't expect much on the weekends except for dried out fish or meatloaf. Getting something from the grill is your best bet. Most of the help has been there for years and are friendly for the most part. Since the new management company came in they have been tweeking the menu with mixed results. Rumour of a renovation is in the works. We shall see! read more

For a hospital cafeteria it was very good although not as cheap as I would have liked. When I worked at Th Roge I could get lunch for $5 but that ship has sailed I am sure. I had a vegetarian rice bowl with yuca fries and collard greens which was tasty. It's a nice modern cafeteria with plenty of seating and large picture windows. It was especially pleasant because the spring trees were in bloom. I noticed they had a vegetarian sausage sandwich on the menu which I wish more places offered. read more

Since the renovation the market bar food has been awful. The only seems to off cheeseburgers, paninis and chicken sandwiches. The cafe closes at 4:30 during the week and is closed on the weekends. Cafe is over priced, sushi bar/ Jackie's galaxy closes very early before dinner, also over priced. I play it safe with chicken fingers and fries for $6.08. And you only get 3 small tenders with that. Also no pizza since renovation. They have some days, tried it, taste like card board. No desert pies anymore except for plain cheese cake and they don't sell ice cream bars anymore either. read more

It's good to have a low baseline of expectations for hospital cafeterias, so keep in mind: if you're looking for a fine dining experience, you /might/ want to take your date elsewhere. The whitewashed walls, plastic chairs, the cheesy murals (one is literally fruits and vegetables floating over a stylized and geographically inaccurate downtown Providence), and the stressed out clinical atmosphere are less than romantic. That being said, this cafeteria is more than competent at making a variety of tasty, reasonably priced meals that will make any patient's family feel cared for at the end of a stressful day. Highlights include: the breakfast bar, which is surprisingly cheaply priced by item, not by weight (go ahead and get a full bowl of corned beef hash and fantastically crispy potatoes, I won't judge); the sandwich bar; the surprisingly good sushi cart; their rotating, hit-or-miss entree bar (Italian and Mexican entrees are pretty good, but most of their Asian "attempts" fall pretty flat); and their grill menu--get the veggie guac burger when it's on special. Bonus points if you run into your family member's doctor in line for the cashier and make awkward small talk! All in all a good alternative to the other nearby dining options. read more

Simply awful. Check it lines are always ridiculous. I went at 2:15 pm for lunch. I got roasted potatoes-about a 6 wedges-equivalent of 1 potato. Cost me $3.25. I questioned the price. I was told after 1:45 price goes from 85 cents a serving to $6.99 a pound. Really. Cashier was rude when I questioned the price. Was told I had to pay. I said I did not want thought was to expensive. The price posted was 85 cents. Was given attitude. Will not go back. Simply awful. read more

The RIH Cafeteria provides the majority of my calories while working in the hospital. Most of the food is your fairly standard cafeteria fair: pizzas, fries, meh sandwiches. However, the salad bar is fairly robust with a decent variety of options, and the rotating specials are often not too bad. The offering that deserves mention because it is, without question, second to none, hands down the best thing you can buy to eat at the hospital is the buffalo chicken wrap. The whole wheat wrap is functional yet unobtrusive, surrendering appropriately to the culinary spectacle within. The bleu cheese sauce serves its role admirably, a cooling counterpart to the main event: The chicken itself. The crunchy external layer juxtaposes the soft white meat interior beautifully, providing an authoritative but welcoming crunch. The buffalo flavor itself is spicy yet not overwhelmingly so, shining through the smooth bleu cheese with the merest hint of heat. When you, reluctantly and with a heavy heart, come to the end of your wrap, the fruit melange will provide you one last joyful wisp of gastronomic enjoyment, before you, your now-empty plastic container, and your satisfied GI tract, return to your days' toil. read more
