Based on the recommendation from a friend, we took a ride to this Greek Deli and were amazed at the number of tables and the huge menu that was offered. Questions we had about specific menu items were patiently answered by any and all of the waitstaff. Meals are cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients. I was pleased with the Greek spinach pie which was different from an Italian spinach pie. It was a flaky phyllo exterior with a filling of baby spinach, and feta and ricotta cheese ! Hubby had a fantastic entree, a well-cooked orso pasta with tenderloin tips in a delicious red sauce. Two other guests at our table were thrilled with the spinach pie and equally delighted with the huge Italian grinder filled with ham, provolone, salami, capicola, and sopresatta. Also available were a number of non-alcoholic drinks, extras, soups, and salads. There were many comfortable areas with tables for four so eating one's meal was relaxing along with chatting with friends. Finally, I don't have to wait for a Greek festival to have some authentic Greek food! It was promising the moment we parked, seeing the huge lunch rush. The line was almost out the door, though it went by in a couple of minutes. There's a menu on the counter where you order, and the service was great, helping you with whatever caught your eye in the hot bar. We ordered every other thing. We sat down, and I loved the classic local feel of the place. We ended up with gyros, Greek salad, grape leaves, fries, and spinach pie. Our highlight was the gyros; they had great gyro meat and reminded me of some of my favorites. The Greek salad was great, and so were the crispy fries. The fries reminded me of diner fries, if anyone can relate. You can help yourself to the condiment bar where I sprinkled cheese and drizzled ketchup on the fries. I found the grape leaves a little too soggy but still a fine bite. They also had Jarritos, and the mandarin one was a great pairing (my favorite!). Lastly, the spinach pie, which was another highlight that packed great flavors. As a kid who hated spinach, this dish will likely win you over too. In an area filled with chains and fast food, this was a refreshing local treat. Be sure to stop in and fill up to your heart's content at this affordable restaurant. read more

Friendly staff and good food at an incredible price point. It's hard to find quality food at an affordable price these days, but Athenian Deli does it. Our group shared the stuffed bell pepper, skewer combo, and eggplant parm sandwich. Everybody loved their food. Try the Pastel De Nata for dessert. I could eat those all day long! 10 years ago the old building next to Superior Bakery was my lunch spot. They demolished the building, was in town yesterday and spotted the sign. Same quality food at a better value than most places. If I lived closer would be here every week. Very friendly and helpful crew making some awesome home cooked meals, but wanted something quick our gyro, side order of HOMEMADE meatballs and excellent spinach pie made with phyllo dough hit the spot. Took waaaayyy too long to try this place out! From the outside it is nothing to behold, but step in and the delicious smell hits you in the face and makes you salivate. Mmmmmm, wow. Step up to the counter on your right, place your order, grab a table and they will call you when the order is ready. There is a menu overhead, behind the counter and paper menus are available on the counter. Or just peruse the cases to see what's on offer that day. They have 'regular' menu items and 'daily' items ready to go in the warming trays behind the counter. Daily specials include Monday meatloaf, Tuesday stuffed pork chip, Friday baked scrod and so on. Every day dishes include baked macaroni & cheese, Shishkebob, lasagna, soups, salads and sandwiches. There are so many options it took us a while to decide and we definitely need to go back to try more. We placed a take away order (.40 surcharge per local ordinance) of way more food than we could eat in one sitting. I enjoyed the gyro: a veal/lamb loaf on a grilled pita w/tzatziki, tomato and onion. The spinach pie was very filling; definitely enough for a quick, hand held lunch. The pastry is very flaky and it is stuffed with spinach, ricotta and feta. My preference would be more spice, still it was good and I hoovered that thing. The marinated beef plate was very good. The meat tender, the rice tasty. Putting my salad in a separate container would have been nice to keep it cool. I ordered a side of tzatziki and this stuff is *loaded* with garlic! Wow! If you love your tzatziki with lots of garlic, you will *love* this version! Everything we tried was well prepared and tasty. I look forward to our next order. read more

This is our go-to pick up place for chicken shiskabob with Greek salad. Have never dined in, but consistently get this meal and it's fresh and comes with grilled pita bread. Two people can split this meal! Decent price and the folks working the counter are always nice. We've tried a small spattering of their other foods. Gyro is pretty so-so (that's why one star off) - meat not seasoned as well as you might get at a glittizier Greek restaurant but also...the price point is right. Give them a try!! read more

Wow, this place rocks! We have been looking for some solid Greek food since we have moved to R.I., and we hit the jackpot. We ordered the gyro, one of their platters (chicken), baklava, and rice pudding. All were delicious, but the platter and gyro (especially the sauce) definitely take the cake. Also, they are taking precautions through COVID crisis as well - all employees were fully masked, there is hand sanitizer visibly available, and there is clear signage for their regulations. Don't Ever Change Not much on the decor meter, but a winner on the food quality meter. This place has been around for decades and I don't think it's been updated in decades either, but who cares. At this spot you order at the counter and pickup your order and sit in one of their wonderful orange booths. Very fresh food that is made to order. We had a chicken and meat skewer platters which comes with a delicious Greek salad and wonderful grilled pita bread. Tip: The grilled pita bread is the key. I'm a regular here and there are certain dishes I cannot live without. One of them is the Salisbury steak. I get it with mashed potato and broccoli. My husband loves the Greek salad with chicken, best he's ever had. I also love their meat sauce for wieners. Totally different yet absolutley delicious!! Spinach pies are also delicious.
