I remember coming here years ago and not liking it too much, so I came again to reevaluate. I concluded that | just don't like their famous wieners topped with meat, onion, and celery salt. My friend ordered a wiener with just ketchup and mayo and that was tasty. I find that the ground meat doesn't have much flavor and instead dilutes the flavor of the wiener. The cheeseburger is delicous. My friend and I shared one but ended up getting another to share since we wanted more. The patty is grilled well (albeit thin), the cheese is melted, the lettuce and tomato are very fresh, and the mayo brings everything together. The fries were good, with a crispy outside and a soft inside. They do look pale, but don't let that fool you. The prices are affordable ($3 - $12), although it does add up since it's tempting to just keep ordering more "little" things. They do have a parking lot on the side of the building and plenty of seating inside. It gives retro vibes, so you definitely travel back in time a couple decades when you walk in. I've learned that in Rhode Island, one does not eat hot dogs. One eats hot wieners. And if you're really trying to fit in, you order it "All the Way". That's Mustard. Meat Sauce. Chopped White Onions. And celery salt. The wieners and buns are both steamed. I first heard the name Olneyville New York System earlier this year, and I thought, "That is quite a name." It turns out multiple places in Rhode Island use "New York System" in their name. A dime's worth of research suggests that "New York System" was probably marketing lingo meant to draw parallels with the popularity of Coney Island Hot Dogs. Olneyville NYS looks like a 50's Style Diner, but the sign out front says 1946. So maybe a 40's Style Diner. I ordered two "All the Way" and ate them at the corner. Olneyville's dogs are a proprietary blend of beef, veal and pork. After they're steamed, they hang out on a grill until someone orders. The dogs have the reputation of being snappy, but I'd describe them as plump. Good seasoning. The dogs and ingredients worked well together. It was time! I probably haven't been here in over 6 months which was before the owners changed and I wanted to see if the place has changed at all. On to the review! I walked in and was greeted by the friendly guy getting dog orders for customers and wait staff. I sat down and he asked what I would like and I gave him my order and like 10 seconds later I have 3 dogs with sauce and salt and a small coffee milk which is like a large but hey that works for me. The buns of the dogs were nice and steamy soft and the dogs had a great snap to them and the meat sauce and celery salt had added to the perfect taste! The coffee milk was ice-cold and had a great taste to it and wasn't too strong. The vibe of this place has never changed even since I was a kid going there. I was in Providence Rhode Island last month. I'm a hotdog fanatic. I came across Olneyville N.Y Systems on Yelp unfortunately I didn't make it there. I'm happy to say that I finally made it to Olneyville N.Y. Systems. I see why they are named the best weiners in Providence Rhode Island. I had one weiner all the way and the birthday boy had 3 with everything except mustard. I could've easily at 2 or 3. All the guys that work their were so down to earth. They brought a glass of their famous milk coffee for me to try. It was delicious and refreshing coming from someone that's lactose tolerant. We also had a side of fries It's very clean inside. The ambiance is so nostalgic everyone was so friendly. And was sharing their childhood stories of there first time coming to Olneyville with their parents. Olneyville N.Y. Systems was established 1946. The guy I recorded preparing the hotdogs told me that the most hotdogs he prepared was 69. He has been employed with Olneyville since he was 18 years old. He told me that when he graduated from high school. His father told him that if he don't attend college he better join the Marine Corp he chose Olneyville instead he's been employed with them for 40 years. I would scream it to the mountains how great Olneyville N.Y Systems weiners are. If your in the Providence Rhode Island. Olneyville New York System where have you been all my life? Traveled all the way from Hawaii to eat their famous wieners. Yes, wieners not hotdogs. This is the perfect hangover food. They're open late so you can get your fixed anytime during the day. Parking is a breeze as there is a big lot and and the service is great. It's a typical Dino style restaurant with a long counter and several booths in the back. A Rhode Island wiener has beef, veal and pork in them. So the wiener is nice and juicy. The chili is mild and the salty onions are a perfect match for this wonderful bite. Wow, what a great time I had at Olneyville during my previous visit to Rhode Island at the end of June. My brother-in-law demanded that we go here and my sister echoed his sentiments and brought us to this classic wiener eatery. We walked in and were greeted immediately and told we could sit anywhere. Then we were told we could just shout our order when we were ready. OK, I am totally here for this. We sat at one of the booths that looked like it came straight out of a 1950's diner and looked at the menu items behind the counter. The 4 of us decided what we wanted and began giving our order. Grilled Cheeses, sodas, burgers, and of course wieners. Since my sister (the pro) wasn't there yet, I made the mistake of asking for a plain hotdog for my son. The guy said, "we don't have hotdogs here." I immediately knew my mistake and said, "oh of course! One plain wiener please!" All through our lunch we had such fun interactions with the employees and watching them work was just as fun. Now, the food - delicious! We got the wieners all the way and omg, that's THE WAY to go. So flavorful and I could have probably eaten four more if it were up to me. The fries were delicious too. They have bottles of vinegar. Pour some vinegar on those bad boys and it just ups the game. The grilled cheese was grilled to perfection. The right amount of toastiness, and gooey cheese. My daughter loved her burger and we all left full and happy. At 2a.m. I just wanted to fill my empty stomach. The service is fast . It's a walk up window after a certain time but if you get the in the early hours you can go inside sit down and eat but late night seating at the one table out there is scarce. If you eat in your car run the widows down before you take them out the bag because you will have the smell of onions in the car when you go out in the morning. I've always loved NY System Hot Weiners. Yes they're stinky, mediocre, greasy hotdogs. Yes they're made on some sweaty guys arms. There is such a level of nostalgia about them. I used to go with my mom and it would be our thing. 2 weenies all the way, fries, and a coffee milk. Nothing better. I now wanted to start that tradition with my son and husband and keep on the same love for nostalgia. I recently had a scary surgery and the only thing I could think of as my meal after I get out of surgery was 2 weenies all the way, fries, and a coffee milk. When my husband told me the price for 4 weenies all the way, 2 fries, a Diet Coke, and a coffee milk. I dam near fell off my hospital bed. How disappointing that something so loved and cherished is now being so grossly overpriced and extorted. $45 for 4 hot dogs, cardboard fries, and two drinks. I knew they were going to raise prices when they sold the business, but Jesus Christ. It's such a shame. It used to be a place where you could go for a good nostalgic meal for pretty cheap. I have gone to sit down restaurants and not even spent $45 (obviously not a Michelin star meal, but neither are these hot dogs). Genuinely disappointing. These are a unique style of wiener to this region... so we had to give it a try! We had ours "all the way" ... why be picky! And they were delicious! The hot dogs themselves are sort of a dyed red color and cut square on the ends. Smothered in a meat sauce and onions... we got the "all the way". On a side note, I went in to pick up our orders because we were traveling with our dog, and as soon as I mentioned that's why they were "to go", the cook chopped up a wiener and wrapped it up for our dog! He said "remove the casing" ... not sure why, but we did, and Nibbler just loved it! We loved ours too. In addition to the wieners we had coffee milks... another unique local treat... milk with a coffee syrup, iced. Delicious. Next time we're in the Providence area, we'll definitely revisit! read more

"Disgusting!" This was the one word I heard over and over again from a Providence resident, in regards to ONYS. "You'll smell like onions for the rest of the day" was another warning, but one which holds little water for me. I love smelling like the foods I love, and onions are a personal favorite. Seriously, can you imagine life without onions? But I digress. I am here to say, avoid the haters. I regret every single missed opportunity to visit ONYS over the last sixteen years of my fairly regular travels to Rhode Island. For the record, this is coming from a New Yorker and a Michigander, who has a fondness for the occasional Chicago dog. That also makes me an equal opportunity hot dog lover, without prejudice for meat blends, casings, toppings or cooking methods. Great dogs can come in all shapes and sizes, and so can not so great ones. ONYS makes a great dog. For being in a bit of a rougher part of town, this is a tender, delicate version of the form. I can get down with that. No snap. Just a juicy silky blend of pork, beef, and veal. The wiener itself has some delicate spice, which is enhanced by just a bit more heat from the chili. It's not hot, but pleasantly tingly. Lets say piquant, even if that word is entirely out of place with the vibe at the counter. The onions and mustard provide some balancing brightness. What I was not expecting was the celery salt. My bad for not doing my research before grabbing a stool at the well worn counter. However, in my mind, it is this small detail which sets the Rhode Island style apart from its cousins. Of course, it's the whole package, with the selection of the wiener and the composition of the chili as well. Still, the celery salt was a delightful pop in the kisser and far from out of place in the hot dog universe. However, until now I did not realize it was in use outside of Chicago. The added salt on top is one reason I was glad to have ordered a coffee milk on the side. The other reason is that to date this was the best coffee milk I've had in the state. Rich, creamy, cold, and full flavored. I know it just comes from a bag. Perhaps coffee milk simply tastes better after something salty. The coffee milk came in a pint glass, and when I cashed out my bill said it was a large one. That tracks. Perhaps ONYS offers a small one? If so, that would be my go to for next time. As tasty as it was, that's a lot of fluid dairy. In the end, the wiener was $3.69 the large coffee milk was $7.18. With tax and a 17% tip for counter service, I was in and out for $9. Food has gotten more expensive these days for sure, but you shouldn't be eating that many hot dogs anyway. One was plenty satiating especially with all of that milk. I'll be back and will continue to fight the good fight against any naysayers. I'm also very curious to try the grilled cheese. Next time ONYS. Next time. read more

I walked in and saw them all kidding around with each other. There was a police officer that bought a new Tesla talking about her car to the other patrons. I'm not in the mood for fries so I ordered two wieners all the way with a glass of coffee milk. My lunch comes to me quickly and I'm in heaven. Chili and onions all day son! While I'm at the counter, a group of people walked in. I guess they were expecting theatrics?? I can see disappointment on their faces. They sat down and I heard them order steak sandwiches. Server was nice and friendly. But the worst hotdogs or weiners we've had. They don't do chili cheese dogs but yet have chili cheese fries. Their coney dog has meat and mustard, little different to what ohios would be, which is chili cheese dogs. Which is fine, everywhere is different. When we got the hotdogs, the meat was so dry. I wouldn't come back to this place based off that alone. When we checked out, they put me and my friend and her sons bill together. Wouldn't separate it at check out, only split our bill in half. Which made me have to spend more than what my actual bill was. Sure that's fine but that's not for everyone.
