    fucked up hairline

    I came in wanting to dye my hair back to my natural color. I also wanted quite a bit shorter than what i came in with. Though I like the color and most of the cut, for some reason i was told by my stylist i needed to recut my hairline in the back of my head. Though I was hesitant I agreed and when I got home to see the results I was extremely shocked. I'm not going to lie i am pissed as I am going to be uncomfortable wearing any form of up do now basically for the next 2 years as it was shaved. I also want to add that there was an extreme amount of dye left on my face. I cannot believe that this is the result i received while paying over 300. For that price i should have extremely better results. Never coming again or recommending to anyone.

    I have been a client for all three of their locations and Silvio and his team keep getting bigger and better with every visit! They are constantly in ongoing education classes-keeping up with the latest trends on hair color, hair extensions and spa services! I am VERY PARTICULAR about my hair color as not many people can execute blonde the way I like and so I was extremely excited when I got my hair colored three years ago and it came out exactly the way I wanted AND MORE. With each visit that I get color, I'm even more happy and impressed. The new salon On Fullerton has a bright and smiling welcome from Sarah who was so gracious to take my coat and offer me a tea/coffee. The location is surrounded by windows which allows natural light in. If you're sick and tired of hopping from salon to salon looking for "the one" this is your one stop shop!!!

    Beware!!!!!! Severe damage and Breakage from improper bleach application. Owner not responding to multiple contact attempts through email and phone. On July 21, 2018 and August 18, 2018, I had services rendered at this salon. My hair was healthy and long prior to my first appointment. After the initial treatment, I noticed my hair was starting to thin. I mentioned this to my hairdresser at my next appointment. She blamed the notable breakage on ponytails and dryers. She did not acknowledge her part in the damage and subsequently proceeded to bleach my hair again. Almost immediately, my hair started to break off in sections about 4" from the scalp. I have documented before and after photos. My healthy, long blonde hair is now wispy and shoulder length. The amount of emotional stress is has created is immeasurable. I am self-conscious and sad. This all happened just before my sister's wedding, resulting in me purchasing an additional $170 worth of removable hair extensions to try to restore the look I had before I started to get hair services at your salon. I have now gone to 3 different hair professionals and all three have come to the same conclusion. The SEVERE damage was caused by over-lapping of color and over-processing. This could have been avoided by using a lower volume developer. Though it would have taken longer to process, the slower the developer the less damage it would have caused. The stylist could have also just lightened to a certain point and then used a toner to achieve the actual level of blonde. All three hair professionals that I consulted with are willing to testify as to the cause of my hair breakage and severe damage. I called and left a message for a return call to discuss a refund for both services. At this point, I am not seeking any pain and suffering compensation. I do hope to hear from you within the next couple of days as a show of good will. This is a very sad, and unfortunate situation.

    Okay this is a tricky review for me to write, but it is a necessary one. Let me preface this by stating that this is my 2nd experience at Bristle + Grace-- my first one being May of 2017 with a different stylist, Taylor. Taylor did a great job on my balayage in terms of matching my color and the blend looked gradual and NATURAL. (pics below) When I went in to see Taylor, I did not mind the idea of a golden balayage. So the color came out fine and I was generally happy with the result, even if the haircut itself was uneven and longer on one side than the other after I washed it at home. But this review is really about last Friday. I went in to see Anna, because of a Groupon deal for a haircut/style/balayage specific to Anna, and I thought why not? I'm only getting balayage and my ends cut with some minor layering...BOY WAS I MISTAKEN. I do want to note that Anna has a lovely personality and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with her. When I first came in and showed her what I wanted (the attached picture can be found below), she mentioned that she was unsure if we could get me there in one session, but she would try to recreate this as closely as possible. Anna comes across as well-intentioned, however when she went into the coloring I became nervous because my hair did not seem to be colored in a fluid motion. The process of painting my hair with the bleaching peroxide did not look natural and reflected exactly this when Anna finished. The color was not at all blended and if I pulled pieces of my hair apart you could see the stark line of contrast between my brown hair with the gray/white/green color...YIKES. I asked Anna to give me a natural look and that I did not want a stark contrast with my brown hair and the more "cool" balayage I requested...I specifically stated (jokingly), "I am not going for a Cruella DeVille look". I got gray/white hair and one gold piece of hair. I am not sure how this miscommunication even happened... While blowdrying my hair, Anna noticed a horridly dyed piece of hair on the right side of my face that she ended up coloring brown. I appreciate her recognizing this mistake and taking care of it. However when we were all done, I pointed out specific parts I liked and what I was missing and she just said I would need more sessions. The problem is, I can not walk around with my sideburns shaved to stubs, my hair looking grey and wilted, and my cut uneven. The more I looked at my hair, the more I hate it. Let's elaborate on the sideburns bit... I also asked Anna to trim my "sideburns" slightly and I shouldn't have, because this woman took a razor to my side burns and then a pair of clippers and I now look like I had surgery done by my ears. IT IS NOT A CUTE LOOK. Don't ever ask to have your sideburns touched...they weren't even Elvis sideburns. I honestly can't imagine wearing my hair up, it is laughable. I am not upset that Anna touched them, I'm upset that she didn't demonstrate hesitation when she didn't know what she was doing, or if we should be doing this at all. Moving on to the haircut...It is uneven and I have straight chunks of hair. I know that we didn't have much time at the salon left since my appointment ran from 6:50 to 8:50pm, but GUYS...this is not okay. My sideburn disaster ponytail looks like someone took a chainsaw to my hair. Thankfully hair grows, hair can be fixed and there's always a solution. Mine being, a next day hair appointment with a girl from Epoch that knows her color capabilities and will fix this disaster... Again, I do not mean to bash Anna's character one bit, like I said she is a sweet, personable young woman and I liked her but not as my hairstylist unfortunately.

    I absolutely adore this salon! The location is super convenient & in the heart of Lincoln Park. Stella has been doing my hair for years now & it has always been an exciting/enjoyable experience. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

    First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.
