I've been a regular at the Oak St location for years and have generally been very happy with everything. Something changed in the last few months and they have a new online ordering system. The surprise was that they also have a fee for using the online system...$1.55. Yeah, it's a minimal charge but still, it's not something you're told about before placing the order and that seems a bit sleezy to me. I have NEVER been disappointed with the food at this location, from the pad see iw, drunken noodles, massaman curry, fried rice, etc. It is pricey for lunch but you get a good sized portion, often leaving with leftovers and it's Bozeman so that's how it goes. I also appreciate that it's not full service as the place is small and I don't want to wait forever for people to finish their meal and leave. read more

My how this place has changed. Let's start with the fact that now you order off of a board on the wall, standing in a giant line like you are at Panda Express. Next, there are stickers over the prices indicating they were raised, which they must have been because a curry dish (or any other is $18/$19. Next, they load all of your plates on a robot that delivers your food. The restaurant is so small it seems like the effort of loading the machine is more work than just running the food out. Unfortunately, corn is the primary vegetable, so I got a ton of fat noodles with about 4 thin slices of carrots, 5 small tofu pieces, a few slivers of onions and peppers. Very disappointing. The woman taking my order could have told me that corn is the primary vegetable and offered me a substitute. If a sub wasn't possible, then I could have chosen to order something else. I was greeted by warm and welcoming customer service and was seated promptly after placing my order at the counter (you can choose your seat). I ordered the chicken pad Thai as my meal. The pad Thai came out within a few minutes and I could smell the deliciousness! My goodness! The aroma! I also asked for chili sauce on the side. The noodles had the perfect texture, and the ingredients were extremely fresh! I squeezed the lime over top of the pad Thai, and this gave it a great zest!!! Additionally, I added chili sauce and it gave the dish a nice spice kick (which I love)! I savored every single bite of this meal, and I was beyond satisfied! I love the food at both of Rice's locations in Bozeman. Their menu descriptions are accurate for their food and it is always so yummy! I usually get the Pad See Ew and enjoy it every time. They also serve very big portions- I usually eat half and have the other half for lunch the next day! It's a very hardy portion (think two solid meals) for a pretty solid price, $16. All of their curries have super great flavor with fresh ingredients. Rice is my go-to spot in town for Thai. We were all extremely hungry and had already tried two other Bozeman restaurants that we weren't able to eat at due to weird closing times/staffing/whatever. I normally would have left upon seeing the prices, but I pushed through, hoping that the food might be worth it. I ordered yellow curry and the potatoes were still hard and slightly strange tasting. The fried rice was pretty bland and I wouldn't order the pad thai again due ti it being really sweet and having a ketchupy sauce. Looking over the reviews, it looks like some people are big fans. The food was horrible. The staff were more interested in laughing with each other then with serving customers. It was so obscenely over priced, that when we paid as we ordered, we thought it would be tasty and abundant. It was neither. Both mine and my husbands were nothing but mostly noodles and very few, slathered in copious sauce that was so sweet it tasted like straight karo syrup with thai pepper flavor. We paid for meat and got three bites of chicken that together made one bite. My husband got two shrimp, two. There was an equal amount of veggies in each dish, a couple peppers and onions and a few green strings of possibly spinach or bokchoy. The restaurant was relatively empty at dinner time, which should have been a clue. I ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken over Udon noodles on the waitresses recommendation. It came out quickly and was steaming hot. Regrettably it was syrupy sweet and could have been served as a dessert. I couldn't eat it and told the waitress when she checked and removed it to speak with the manager. I didn't expect a free meal, but was surprised when the waitress returned and said the manager would take $2.00 off the check. The waitress was apologetic, polite and prompt. The casually dressed manager by the name of "Thunder" finally came out after I had paid and told the waitress I would write a review. He told me it was the customers responsibility if they didn't like the food they ordered. So much for Montana friendliness and customer service. This is a great place to pop into when you are needing a quick bite to eat. We have hosted several exchange students from Thailand, and we have taken them to many different Thai restaurants in the area. Time and time again, each of our students say this is the most authentic Thai restaurant in the area. We often joke about the Americanization of many different world cuisines, but we have been told that this is their favorite Thai restaurant because it brings them right back home. The worst Thai food I've ever had. I never learn and I try to come back bc I think maybe I've been unreasonable but it's terrible. One time I ordered curry and it legit smelled like poop. I sent it back and I *never* send food back. I also love curry so this isn't some, I don't like curry thing. I ordered summer rolls today, which tasted like a bland salad. They came with some bad vinegar sauce and I asked for peanut sauce. The server told me it would be $2.50. Last time I give them a second chance.
