The waitress was really sweet and accommodating and made sure to double check on the gluten free items. We got two appetizers and a few a la carte items. Overall pretty good and filling. Probably the worst sushi spot in NYC. I cringe every time I think of the food there. Maybe the specialty rolls are okay but do not go for sushi or sashimi. They were not fresh at all. Tasted like something that were frozen for a while and then left out to thaw for days. Never going back. read more

Pretty trash customer service for food that's slightly above mediocre. I would give 0 stars if i could. Spend your money better elsewhere; there are other small restaurants that are more deserving of assistance during Covid, and actually serve much more tasty food. Background: I placed an order via Door Dash. They had lunch specials listed on their menu so I ordered on that menu since it was 1pm on a Sunday. Here's where the problems started: 1. DoorDash (not the restaurant) called me to say the lunch specials weren't valid on the weekends and they were going to price adjust me up. I was pretty annoyed because it is the responsibility of the restaurant to list the CORRECT prices, and not have the customer assume what prices are valid or not. This is a classic case of bait and switch. But tbh, since it's Covid time, I said okay to the price adjustment as I understand how hard it is for local restaurants. (Before anyone comes for me, I have ordered from other sushi spots before that have offered lunch specials on the weekends; if it's on the menu, the price should be final once a customer places an order. If a restaurant doesn't want to offer lunch specials on the weekends -- remove it. It's that simple.) 2. My DoorDash driver (again, not the restaurant) called me to let me know the restaurant messed up my order and had to redo it, resulting in a greater wait time. I received a call around 2pm; my food arrived around 2:30pm. A whole 1.5 hours after I originally ordered (DoorDash quoted me a delivery time of 30-45 minutes, and I live ~5 min drive away from the restaurant.) 3. The food arrived and it's pretty mediocre. The tuna is dark and looks stale, and tbh I've had MUCH BETTER sushi in Astoria. I think I would have been a little more receptive if the restaurant called to explain the mishaps and took ownership. Having others communicate on your behalf regarding your mistakes is pretty cowardly. For anyone who made it to the end of this review -- SKIP THIS RESTAURANT. UPDATE: it is now 4pm and my bf and I both have stomach bugs from this pretty low quality, trashy food. I'm filing a complaint with DoorDash. read more

Not really sure why I've ordered from here about 5 times now...every time it is very average. I usually regret it and wish I spent the extra money to order elsewhere. All of the food tastes pretty meh...I frequently order the Buddha roll and their mango is literally never ripe, the appetizers are bland, sushi is low to average quality. I guess you get what you pay for. This place is cheap, they haven't increased their prices due to inflation yet. I'm guessing the 4 and 5 star reviews are from people who have only had their Chinese food? Not sure. Skip this place, there are much better sushi restaurants in Astoria like watawa and pink nori. What justifies my giving this place five stars? I guess I'm probably biased because the owners, Xiu and Kyle, are a couple of the coolest hosts ever, and that may influence the way my taste buds experience the meal, but I've often observed that where there is love, good food typically follows. I live in the neighborhood, and it's nice to be walking distance from an Asian restaurant that has both Chinese dishes as well as Japanese staples. Rice K does some Asian fusion, such as their delicious tuna chips, which are slices of sashimi on a bed of avocado and crunchy tortilla chips (a must try!). Their duck appetizer is pretty tasty, but it comes in thin wraps rather than the traditional bun. I've had their sashimi and it's pretty good cost-benefit wise. Their two person platter is yummy, and they have special bento boxes that come with soup, salad, shumai, dumplings, a California roll, and sashimi. I think Astoria is spoiled with many excellent Japanese spots, so even though it's definitely not the best place to have sashimi, it's still worth it bang for buck wise. Their cheese wontons are delicious!!! Perfect snack for post-party late nights, where you might otherwise give into the temptation of eating chicken nuggets at McDonalds. As for cocktails, I've had the Jade Assassin, which is more of a dessert drink... too sweet for me, but I should've known better by reading the ingredients on the menu. I loved the Yuzu citrus martini though! And the Chinese rice wine is delicious, too. It also doesn't hurt that they have a pretty good looking bartender who can also sing and makes a mean shot. I love this place, the sushi is as good as it gets. The biggest appeal has to be the special rolls. I personally love the "Spicy Girl" and the "White Tiger Roll", both of which are excessively large and extravagant. Rice-K stands out because while it's menu does have all the classic sushi you'd expect, the menu is also filled with some pretty fancy and delicious items you won't find anywhere else in Astoria. I think these unique menu items put it a clear notch above all the other sushi places in the area, and make it a great date place because you know you're going to try something impressive that you can't get anywhere else. (To be fair, the Chinese menu is great as well, but I'm pretty serious about sushi.) The staff is always fun and friendly, it's a good atmosphere all around, you really can't go wrong. read more

I was here with a few friends this weekend. We ordered the chicken broccoli, a few sushi rolls and some drinks. The chicken was slimy and sauce was bland. I saw rats running around and a roach on the table next to ours. I've been here a few times now. Food has been good in general, with a few dishes that were hit or miss. This last visit was for the lunar new year celebration. The waitresses were dressed up, decorations strung, and candy laid out on the table. The live music was also a nice touch. The band was singing American covers for the first hour or so. Then a female singer came on to sing a few traditional songs, which we enjoyed. We ordered the shrimp dumplings (asked for steamed but got fried instead), and chicken and brocolli off the regular menu. From the pre fix, there was the oxtail soup, lucky shrimp, steak and this fried dessert. We also tried the lychee sangria, which was tasty. The dumplings were good, but would have liked them better if they were steamed. Soup would have been better if it was served hot. The lucky shrimp was delicious. I'm not sure I tasted the chicken or cheese in most bites, but it was definirely tasty nonetheless. The chicken and brocolli was surprisingly good and actually spicy, per our request. The steak chunks were also really good, tender and cooked well. The dessert was listed as sticky rice but what we got was something fried with a gooey center that was way too sweet for me. Not sure if that gooey base was made with sticky rice. Overall, I like this place and will be back. read more

We are visiting from out of town & my daughter had a previous meal here that she raved about so we decided to give it a try. We did order takeout. Staff was very friendly on the phone & upon delivery. I had Kung pao shrimp. The shrimp was pretty tasty but the rice & wonton soup that came with the entree was awful. No flavor at all. The wonton soup was just a bright yellow broth with scant pork & no bok choy like I am accustomed to in wonton soup. They even forgot fried wonton to go with soup. My daughter got generals chicken & it was still pink on the inside of the chicken. I don't typically write bad reviews unless multiple things occur & this certainly happened here. My family and I went there this past Wednesday, because we had a taste for hibachi and were trying to find a place with good reviews. Unfortunately, you can't always go by someone else's experience. The food was extremely disappointing that we literally took the rest of it home, to eventually throw out. Not to mention, they nickel and dime you for everything. Service: The server was nice, she made our drinks. Although, the restaurant was fairly empty, she took a long time bringing the drinks. My daughter and sister's specialized drink was good to them; however, I only ordered Tito's with a little cranberry and a splash of seltzer. How can you mess that up? It was absolutely watery, that you couldn't taste anything but all the ice that was put in it. I shared with the server how displeased I was and she didn't care. She made it clear that I was gonna be charged for thr drink, so she supposedly added more liquor to an already watery drink. We spent over $120, for a disappointing experience. read more

Oh yes. We just moved to Astoria and wanted some raw fish. As a big hand roll guy, this place had a lot to live up to, and they did! I also now have the privilege of ordering Seamless whenever I please, which really couldn't be any better. For specialty rolls we went with the Alaskan Winter which was a crispy oyster, avocado, masago inside topped with white tuna. I could die a happy death with this roll. I am really happy this place decided to start over. It was originally a "Japanese and hibachi steak house" however, it wasn't a hibachi restaurant, only a place that sold hibachi like menu items. I definitely encourage all to try this place. The drinks are great, and the appetizers were quite delicious (kani salad and seasame pancakes are a must). We ordered spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon and the spicy girl roll. This place is okay, but I feel semi-obliged to give them a mediocre review after two recent bad experiences. Incident #1: my wife and I ordered takeout from here. I got hibachi steak and she got chicken. While my steak was okay, we both agreed that her chicken was almost inedible. Something about the taste of the sauce was...off. Metallic, maybe? Or just unappetizing. Incident #2: I went in person to Rice K to watch a major pay-per-view sporting event on the TV above the bar. In the middle of said event, three loud people came in and convinced the manager to change the channel. They also sat right next to me without distancing. And, from the time this annoying trio arrived, I received no further service whatsoever. I guess they were regulars, and once they showed up I didn't count anymore. Apart from the gross takeout chicken, I would say this place normally has three-star food. It's fine for a neighborhood joint, but not exceptional.
