Since moving to Astoria, I've been on a hunt for the best sushi restaurant and Rice K was that place. I've never came in to eat but all my delivery orders always arrived on time and the food I ordered always hit the spot. However, tonight was a different story. I placed an order to Rice K on delivery.com at 9pm. The estimated delivery time was 45-60 minutes. At 10:24pm I called the restaurant as I haven't received my food yet. The woman I spoke to over the phone was adamant that they called me multiple times and that I provided the wrong address. Since it wasn't my first time ordering from them online, I was sure that I didn't provide the wrong information but I repeated my address and my phone number. On the safe side, I asked her to repeat my order to make sure that my order was correct as well. She started to list a bunch of items that were not what I ordered. It turned out that they forgot my order and she said that they'll put in my order right away. Fast forward to 10:44pm, my food arrived. Considering that my order was forgotten until I called and arrived almost two hours after I placed it, one would think that they would make sure everything I ordered was there. I was missing a miso soup but they happened to throw in two sodas. I'm not a big soda drinker and would've preferred if they just provided everything I paid for. I called again and they refunded me for the missing item. I'm honestly disappointed that this happened but I won't let this situation deter me from ordering from them again. They do have really great sushi but hopefully they'll be more on top of their online orders. read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Everything is served well, and prepared with care. To start with I have to say that they serve an excellent Pad Thai, The noodles are just the right consistency and the flavor is as well. The house special egg foo young is the best I have ever had with it being full of shrimp, chicken, and pork. The General Tso's chicken comes with a generous portion of chicken and not overly sweet, made just right. The wonton soup is delicious. On top of delicious food Rice K also is great place to meet up and gather with friends, and the owner has established an inviting atmosphere for all to enjoy. Situated in Astoria and very close to the ditmars subway station its the perfect spot for a after work drink and to gather friends for a drink or a dinner. Its a large spot and has a large bar to the left serving up some great moscow mules. To the right is the seating area and you get great service here. Very attentive and all dishes were explained. We had the sushi which was spot on. Futomaki, a spicey crab, and shashimi which made for a great meal. The pork dumplings along with the shrimp tempura were also made very nicely. Good flavor and very satisfying. A standout to us though were the tuna chips. Tuna, mango, and sweet sauce on top of a nacho chip. A great snack to go with your drinks. I don't eat pork, so when I told the waitress about it, she took the plate, got rid of the fried rice (replaced it with white rice) but it was already all over it. A hidden gem in the neighborhood, I loved everything we tried that day. We had some of the specialty sushi rolls and udon noodle soup. Rock shrimp tempura was delicious, a must try! The sushi rolls were top quality and delicious as well. We were really excited to stumble upon this spot, very cool decor and I believe they have karaoke and live bands on the weekend. Usually my go-to because I can order Chinese food and Japanese food at the same place. BUT very disappointed as of late!!! Many times my takeout orders have been wrong. EX: For an added price, I swapped my miso soup with wonton and still received the complimentary miso soup, with NO wonton soup substitution. ANOTHER EX: I ordered $6 worth of SHRIMP egg rolls but got 4 mini rolls that look like SPRING rolls, ONLY had cabbage inside and VERY oily. Disappointing. Ordered at 6:49pm via delivery.com with this place. Mind you, we all know about the crisis and expected delays. What should not be expected or accepted is horrible customer service and a two delivery. After an hour I call and get some guy who says my order left already. Ok no problem. 40 minutes later and I call back asking what happened and he said I'll call you back in two minutes. Never did. Now in between this you have to call this place several times because they won't pick up the phone. I even called delivery.com and they couldn't reach them and they canceled my order for me. I called Rice K and got the same snarky guy who said the kitchen is busy. I understand but if you tell me my order is out the door it has nothing to do with deliveries being two hours late. Of course after 2 hours the guy shows up and I reject the order. Not going to accept cold food. The snarkiness of the guy on the phone and terrible customer service makes me hope this place closes. If you want great Asian fusion food, solid drinks at an amazing price, there's not a better option in Astoria. Food: I haven't had something I don't like at this point. I typically go in, and read the menu and order what speaks to me. Luckily, anyone can find something great to eat here. Sushi? Always good. Dim sum? I never order enough. Try the rock shrimp tempura. You'll thank me later. Atmosphere: Awesome couches and chairs. I'm always comfortable when I sit down, but the seating, music, ambiance and service are fantastic. On weekends, they have live music! It's a great way to have good food, drinks, and music in a way you can only find in NYC. Their whole menu is also available for takeout, but you should go in, sit down, and enjoy yourself. The guy in the front went to check on my order and told me 20 minutes. I told him I would come back. I went to key food to grab a few things. Got back to the restaurant and the food still wasn't ready. The guy went to check on my order and told me 10 minutes. 15-20 minutes later, I asked the guy to check on my food. He said the kitchen is almost done with it and that he's only relaying what the kitchen is telling him. Got my food around 8. Got home to find the boneless spare ribs were burnt. On one side of almost every piece was a thick layer of burnt meat. Never getting food from the place again. Would highly recommend people to stay away from this subpar establishment. read more

WATCH YOUR DRINKS! Be careful of allergies! Haven't been this disappointed in an establishment in a long while but here we are. I ordered a frozen mango margarita which was on the menu & instead of saying they didn't have it at the moment the server made me a concoction that could've gotten me very sick. We all know the liquor in a margarita is tequila. I saw her pour pineapple Malibu rum into my drink, she wasn't even discreet to hide this concoction that contained no mango margarita ingredients. When I took a sip, it was some strawberry concoction with rum and it was horrible. I get very sick from rum & I am cautious with strawberry because many of my family members are allergic to strawberries so truly she could have gotten me very sick. You don't serve someone a random drink just because you don't know how to make the drink they ordered. I wish she would've been honest I would've ordered something easier like a beer! Once that happened the bar was set low in my mind for the food in its way. My boyfriend got general tso chicken and said it was not even as good as a sloppy takeout Chinese food spot which would've cost 1/4 of the price. He usually eats a lot, he couldn't even stomach finishing it & he did not even take the substantial amount left to go because it was that bad. I got pineapple fried rice & it was so bland and flavorless. I also barely ate mine & did not take it to go, it wasn't worth taking it because I knew I wouldn't eat it. I've been ordering from this location since it was called Dragon Gate (notice the dragon on the glass at the entrance) and it's always been the best Chinese food in the Ditmars area of Astoria. I usually get take-out but occasionally will dine in and that's a great experience too! My girlfriend enjoys Japanese food and I prefer Chinese, so it's awesome to have both options available on the menu here. Lively indoor vibe on the inside on weekends and the staff seems nice, otherwise a hard place to recommend. The sushi is mediocre to bad, the tables smell like they've been wiped down with the same mildew towels for days and they crank the outdoor speakers to the max during karaoke. The tables outside can hear the drunk people screaming old pop songs trying to be funny. Might be fun for the people inside but why in the world is it turned up to 11 for the people outside ? Dim/low lighting in the evening and the seating was so comfortable. The service was by far one of the best I have experienced in NYC and I'm a local. Sue, manager and owner, personally came to check on our meal and even introduced me to the best mixed drink shot I have ever had in my life, The Green Tea shot, highly recommend it! One of my friends even went back for lunch two days later because the food was impeccable. The sushi was so fresh and delicious, and the main entree was well made and presented very nicely. The prices are reasonable and you get bang for your buck. I will absolutely be returning to Rice K and would highly recommend this family owned small business restaurant for your sushi cravings. Came across this being that we live right down the block and it looked pretty nice so we decided why not give it a try. We both ordered veggie pad thai and broccoli in garlic sauce. Let me tell you looks can definitely be deceiving. Although the place looked completely put together, nice ambiance, good music.. the food was really disappointing. Came here for Grand Re-Opening. They had a great jazz band playing for the Re-Opening. The samples they brought were incredible, highly recommend the Mongolian Beef Buns and Rock Tempura Shrimp!! What a wonderful place! Came here for the first time with my boyfriend. The first thing I notice was the serene and calm mood of the place. I love the Ocean Set and Tuna Chips as appetizers. For entrees I had the Alaskan Winter roll and a few pieces of sashimi. The fish tasted fresh! For drinks I have the mojito and a Hennessy mojito. All very delicious.
