I want to give this place a 3.5 but obviously am unable. I grabbed take out here one night. Pretty busy for a Thursday, it was 30 min for pick up. Place is a total dive, looks like it should be in Chinatown. For what it is, cheap/fast/Korean, it def serves its purpose. I ordered the beef and veggie dumplings. They were deep fried and crispy, very temperature hot. They were small and not much meat and veggies, but anything fried still tastes good. But I was a bit disappointed. The bimbop bowl was ok. Not a lot of veggies and meat, mostly rice. The rib eye beef in the bowl was pretty good but just wish there was more. Overall it was good and did the job. But nothing off the charts. read more

I've ordered from this place many times and almost always get the BulDak. I found Rice N bread through the Eat24 app and I ordered the same BulDak I always order... except this time I made a special request with my order; "Extra extra spicy please!". and oh my god did they deliver. Me and my two friends were dying from the heat but it was so good. I regret eating it because of the aftermath but now that I think about it, I wouldn't have it any other way from now on. I placed a delivery order for beef bulgogi (requested spicy) and crispy mandoos. The order arrived very quickly and the food was very hot. The Mandoos were good and a new dish for me. I really liked them. So we were off to a good start! The bulgogi was okay, more sweet than flavorful and they must have not read the note to make it spicy because there was zero heat. It came with a side of rice and Kimchee. What really grossed me out was eating the kimchee. First bite was very tasty. Second bite had a weird crunch like I was biting into a bone. I pulled the offending piece out of my mouth and it was a tiny crab leg. Like the whole leg was maybe half an inch long. I don't know if it was cooked for another dish or was climbing around the cabbage field when the cabbage was harvested but I couldn't eat any more. I tried looking up whether cabbage kimchee was ever made with tiny crabs but the only pictures I saw of Korean crab dishes had regular size crabs. Pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be there. I expected the food to be four and half stars, but it only deserves two. I ordered 'Chicago's best burger', and my bf got the spicy noodle soup. I know there are many restaurants claiming their burgers to be the best, but this time it is just way off. Pretzel bun was not toasted, meat was extremely sweet and sloppy. My boyfriend ordered the spicy noodle soup, but he didn't want any squid in it, the owner said he could switch it to pork which he forgot to. Coffee is watered down with no taste. And the restroom is outside the restaurant and need a key to it... Disappointed brunch experience. read more

Here's a story for you. One evening I was craving some teriyaki beef, so like always I called up Rice N Bread for some delivery. I only had about $20 in cash on me.. But I was starving so I also added an appetizer on top of it. When the total ran up to over $20 I said "ahh take the appetizer off" 20 mins go by and Jacob shows up at my door. He asks me, "why did you drop the appetizer?" I said "I didn't have enough money to pay for them!" He says "ahh" and walked away. 20 mins later Jacob shows up at my door with a squid appetizer, says "on the house". If that's not customer service I don't know what is. Food was so yummy. The Bibimbap was yummy and a large portion. Inexpensive good food and really nice workers.

What a delightful multicultural experience! It looks and feels like a diner, with traditional breakfast items like pancakes and omelets on the menu. Turn the page and the menu is full-on traditional Korean or Korean-inspired! We tried all traditional Korean items: the pa jeon (seafood pancake), dolsot bibimbop and beef bulgolgi. All of the Korean fare was really authentic and tasty...I can't wait to try the much talked about fried chicken next time! Oh and BYOB! read more

5 stars for many reasons 1) not crowded. Just because the spot isn't crowded doesn't mean its not good. It was about 1/2 full when we walked in around 1:30 for lunch. Maybe we beat the rush? but then again Rice N Bread is located in Lakeview.. there's lot of food competition 2) So this spot serves 'American' diner food and Korean food. The owner/waitress is Korean. Based on the photos, we picked Korean food and we were so glad we did.. usually you'd expect food to be mediocre since it doesn't specialize in one type of food, but they really served some delicious korean food 3) Orders squid bimbibop... yes, squid bimbibop!! thats the absolute first time seeing that and trying it. The dish was superb and came in the clay pot, with the rich slightly crispy. We also got the chicken skillet (aka bagolgi).. super delicious! Food is really good and people are nice, but the fan over the grill makes so much grinding noise - which has been going on for months - that it is nearly impossible to hear the server. A fantastic little very unassuming Korean Diner in the heart of Wrigley. Great food, service is fast and super friendly, and it smells phenomenal inside. I ordered here last week and I received hash browns that were a bit over done. I messaged the restaurant through yelp directly to let them know I did not like it. The owner personally contacted me and explained he was very sorry. and would correct it immediately. He asked me about the rest of my meal and if I liked it. He also asked if I would be home later today, if I was interested in an entirely new meal on him, and also what time worked best for me. This type of service is just unheard of anymore. The owner himself dropped off the meal to my front door and even threw in extra goodies for me to enjoy. So impressive and lovely. Great little neighborhood joint that's cheap and delicious. I ordered the bibimbop in the stone pot and my gf ordered the soup with chicken and noodles. The bowl was delicious with the rice and the beef and veggies blending into a perfect mix of wonderfullness. The broth was also amazing with a rich and deep chicken flavor. If you order the Buldak you won't regret it. The Bulgogi Beef is also really good, and if you want a bunch of food that's still high quality go for the Egg Foo Young. It's all high quality and at a great price point. read more

Ordered delivery and although it says 30 min - an hour, it always arrives under 30 minutes! The food is delicious for Korean fast food and they give pretty large portions. It's a little oily, but for the price and portion it's an awesome deal. I will definitely continue ordering from them - hoping to stop by the restaurant one day soon! read more

Got the Galbi burger and a friend got a Rice bowl, which was this heathenistic if delicious mix of rice, vegetables, japchae, dumplings, and some kbbq of your choice(chicken, pork, beef, tofu), topped off with sauce of your choice. If you've ever been to halal guys, think of this as the Korean version of that...a combination of rice, meat, veggies, and sauce which you'll will probably be mixed all together and consumed as one strangely colored but delicious mix. The burger was just alright...I think I was let down because I was under the impression there would be actually galbi in it, as opposed to the patty just being flavored like it. Didn't seem to far removed from a normal teriyaki burger; the pretzel bun was a good addition but aside from the flavored patty a special spiced mayo they used there really wasn't much more too it(just some lettuce and tomato). I suppose it is a rather simple and solid burger, but for $7 I could expected something a little more substantial(at least some extra onions or a thicker patty or something in there). Anyways, the rice bowl was still good and I'm tempted to try their other options now too; seems like a homey place and the nice Asian woman ringing is up was super attentive. Good concept bringing Asian flavors to traditional diner food, which I'm all about, so I could totally Rice n' bread being a staple for me if I lived a bit closer. read more

Fresh ingredient, cozy atmosphere, nice service. We ordered chicken wing, which was amazing. Crispy and a bit spicy, prefect for starter. For the squid bibimbap, it was my favorite dish that night. The bibimbap was served in a hot stone clay, so it kept warm during our dinner time. Cause the clay was so hot, it was easy to find crusted rice at the bottom. So far, this restaurant is the only one I tried whole bibimbap has crusted rice. As for bigougi, it was fine. Flavor was there, but i just was not into bigougi so much. I ate here a few months ago, so my memory is not too clear about many specifics of our meal. However, whenever I'm in the neighborhood this place always enters my mind! For being such an inexpensive restaurant, it was very tasty food and endearing. I also remember that the waitress working that night was very nice and attentive, given that I think she was the only one working. We dined in a group of three. I had the Yet Ka Mein and one friend had the Spicy Yet Ca Mein, both of which were very good! I'd love to return to try the spicy version but that day I just wasn't feeling fish. It was not easy to look for the nice fusion Korean-American restaurant near Chicago. Finally, I got one of the awesome fusion restaurants in Chicago neighborhood. DISHES: I highly recommend the buldak/dandak (I bet you have never experienced those delicious, tantalizing taste, home-made, and unique sources, of course, both of them!). Not even both sources, well-cooked chicken itself gave me the happiest experience ever. The quantity of each dish is also enough to fullfill your hunger. Secondly, you have to try the noodle called YetCaMein. I have no idea how to explain this delicate taste, but this noodle made me addicted. Also the kalbi (the most famous Korean beef) burger, you have to get this if you don't want to lost the opportunity to eat this one of the kind fusion burger. In addition, there are lot of things you have to try, dolsot bibimbop (Korean traditional rice with beef/vegetables), home-made gravy with rice and so on. Since I am getting hungry again, I would like to wrap up "DISHES". It is also very historical place, has been in the same place since 1959. Rice 'n Bread is Korean American diner, and for that, it's okay. Dine-in and take-out was serviced well. Bibimbop and bulgogi were safe options. I ordered the Dul Dak (Korean fried chicken) for take-out, and it tasted very generic, like chicken tenders smothered with bottled sauce. This is like the equivalent of a corner hot dog stand so there's really no going wrong, but I find Del Seoul or Crisp to be tastier alternatives. read more

We got the spicy fried chicken, Sundubu and sunny side up eggs for brunch. The fried chicken was boneless, tender and juicy. The spice level was perfect. The Sundubu is fantastic . The broth has a lot of flavor. The sunny side up eggs were perfectly shaped. The total price was only $25 dollars for everything. The service was quick and very typical of a Korean restaurant. you want korean. you don't want to leave the house. well, that narrows it down. as i suspected, there's a reason not many korean restaurants deliver. ever hear of a little thing called korean bbq, cooked right at your table? bibimbop, which comes in a stone pot with a not-fully-cooked egg on top? how about the table full of little side dishes, whatever they're called- kimchi, bean sprouts, etc.? yeah... i was pretty sure they weren't going to be delivering raw meat. the best parts about korean dining would be pretty difficult to recreate in take out containers. so all in all it was a decent meal (& leftovers) but i'm guessing it's much better if you eat there. if you do, i suggest the seafood pancake and the bulgogi. read more

Rice and bread...two of my favorite things. I can only speak to the Rice part of their offerings, as I tried the Dol Sot Bibimbop. So good, with tons of veggies and huge portions. It also managed to maintain its classic Korean taste, which I appreciated. The interior is cheerful and the owner was super sweet. My only qualm is that I wish my meal had come with a few side dishes/banchan, at least some kimchi. Other than that, a winner for both simple Korean dishes and some cool fusion items. read more

I found the gem in Lakeview area. Foods are as delicious as what I had in Korea when I was young, and price range is reasonable. I had bundak, buldak, and dduk bokki and those taste better than other Korean style chicken places (I don't want to comment their names lol) Also the owner is very nice and seems like he knows what Korean dishes taste supposed to be. Pretty simple and low cost brunch and Korean restaurant. Meals are a bit light, but so is the cost, and it usually does the trick whenever I've come in to eat. Hours are a bit limited for the area, and there are heartier options all around. But when I lived near here I didn't mind coming in for a quick breakfast or after-work meal. read more

Ate dinner there last week on a Friday. Menu has several Korean dishes, as well as American. I had the Korean Fried Chicken with the sweet sauce. Very good and flavorful. The place has a nice comfortable atmosphere and the waitress that worked that night was very friendly and despite her working alone, she had no problem serving the several diners there last night without skipping a beat. I've lived in the neighborhood and have been coming here for about 3 years. New extended hours new name and newer staff (Sarah) is great and everything I've ever had was great. The Galbi burger is probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. I always see the neighborhood characters in here too. (Ronny Woo-woo out of uniform for example). We were at the Cubs game and wanted Korean after the game and this place came up in walking distance. We went and it was my best meal of the day. I wanted hot soup noodles and kimchee. Both really good! The broth was like a ramen soup broth...made in house with great flavor. No msg or not too salty. Noodles were probably made in house too...seemed like it was fresh pasta noodle style. And kimchee...they make it in house with a clean taste. Simple ingredients with no fish sauce or any seafood in it. It was perfect! This is a great place to go with someone that doesn't want Korean since they have American meals on the menu. My husband got a breakfast that came with Korean beef. He enjoyed it and the kimchee as well. Thanks for a great meal! The owner was nice to help me find a Korean restaurant that has spicy raw crabs. This is a very strange restaurant. It has a number of what I would call very Korean dishes, but is also a neighborhood diner, serving french toast, hamburgers, etc. There were a couple of patrons who clearly were regulars, a family munching on french toast, and a relatively heavy smell of Korean food permeating the air. The juxtaposition was disorienting. My wife and I came to try the Kalbi burger. It was a tasty burger, however, the menu says it is a mixture of pork and beef. That is not a true kalbi burger (kalbi is 100% beef short rib), hence the 3 stars. Perhaps it is better to just have the straight up traditional American offerings?
